WFME 1560 on top, of course. Still replaying the dead founder of Family
Radio.

Saw a tip on FB from Paul Snider in Niagara that long-needed WKIK La Plata
MD was on late. Sure was, easily matched to the web audio, with country
music at 2119 edt. Heard previously, but only tentative.Seemed to
disappear by 2130.

Also in the mix was WFSP Kingwood WV, ID at 2130 as "WFSP 107.7". Oldies
and a ton of local ads at 2136. Previously heard and verified.

Now an UNID: At 2139 "Country 101.9", and then at 2153 call letters
sounded like WMXA or WNSA. I've looked at Radio Locator listings for 1560
and 101.9 country stations and nothing matches. Any ideas out there,

[IRCA] 1560 XEMAS Salamanca Mexico

2015-03-30 Thread Saul Chernos
I've a rather welcome addition to my logbook thanks to a Mexican DXer who
frequents the WTFDA Forums bulletin board.
On Feb 26, with 1560 WQEW NYC off, I snagged a few second of talk before music.
It seemed Spanish, but I wasn't able to make out more than something sounding
to me like AM (AM'eh).
The DXer listened to the clip and pointed me to XEMAS in Salamanca, Guanajuato.
"At 00:06 there is a female voice saying '107.9 FM' in Spanish. That's because
both stations (107.9 FM in Irapuato, Guanajuato) are WE! Radio (not as pronoun
"we", instead it's like "doh-ble oo, eh" from XEWE-AM, now XHWE-FM), and at
00:08 you can hear a spot from a political party called 'Movimiento Ciudadano'.
He pointed me to an extended version of that spot, saying the verse I had on my
clip starts at 00:36 of the clip on You Tube.
I listened to the You Tube clip and the music on that and on my audio clip is
indeed a match. The You Tube clip is at www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ui66RwcCj5o
I then went to XEMAS' web site and live stream. It indeed IDs as We radio,
phonetically as above, and a few minutes after logging into the stream the same
political party spot played, with the same sampling of music I heard Feb 26.
I can make out enough of the 'We' that I'm satisfied. I can also make out the
.9 FM" of the "107.9" that precedes it. I'd call this one of my most "barely
made it" loggings.
This station used to go by Ke Buena, at least per my 2014 WRTH (my 2015 WRTH is
at Burnt River, I'm in Toronto).
I've quite a few hours more of 1560 recordings to go through, so maybe more
goodies will pop up. At 1KW day/250w night I suspect this is as much of XEMAS
as I'm ever likely to hear. I am curious if any of you have logged it, either
in North America or in Europe.

IIRC, PSSA's were capped at either 500 or 1000 watts. PSRA's ( which came
about first ) were originally 500.

Re: [IRCA] 1560 KLNG

2015-02-22 Thread Rick Dau

Jim and Russ, there was a discussion on KLNG on this listserver 5 nights ago.
They ARE allowed to stay on until 2 hours after Council Bluffs sunset with a
PSSA. The particulars, as e-mailed to me by Dennis Gibson, can be found in
this URL:
http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=3560
I live about 2 miles NNW of their stick, so they're breathing fire down my
neck, as you might imagine. At LSS, when they drop from 2.1 Kw to 41 watts
(which I think is what they go to at sunset in February), I should be able to
notice a difference, even at this close proximity. Problem is, I don't, which
leads me to believe that they ARE playing bad by leaving the 2.1 Kw until
sign-off time at 2100 ELT. They and KOM-1490, 2 miles WSW from me, are my two
biggest pests. 73,Rick DauSouth Omaha, Nebraska (where mixing products galore
abound)

pre sunrise authority thanks to 20 or 30 year old paperwork in a closet at

Correct - the FCC apparently has the records on paper, but for some reason
not all of them have been converted, perhaps because
stations had to fax them to the FCC if they wanted to participate, and so
some may have gotten lost. Last I heard, the FCC didn't have
the staff to devote to getting all of the PSRA and PSSA data on line.

Re: [IRCA] 1560 KLNG

2015-02-22 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
i think post sunset authorities are from sunset to 2 hours after.. not the
same time every month. and you may not necessarily find pssa/psra online,
it was issued then rescinded.. stations may have paperwork at the offices
that shows them what they have when it was issued/requested ages ago.

i think.

No PSSA on the FCC site. The 2010 NRC Log shows a request for 1.32 watts
PSRA, no PSSA.

I thought PSSAs went to 6 PM, but it's now 6:46 PM in Iowa.

Thanks, Paul, you make sense. I was driving in the car at the time, going
through buzzing RF zones. The CSN was in for about 8 minutes, and then the
WSBV SSB and sign-off, but there was not a seamless segue from one to the
other. White fundamentalism doesn't really fit a Black Gospel music
station either. Thanks.

The "Live and let Die" UNID, then Black Magic Woman, led to a WKDO ID, then

Same story here, Jim. WSBV-1560 fair with Gospel 1742-1758 EST, then Star

livley as Saturday. After 1800 a weak jumble with apparent WKDO-KY on top.

I'm in the midst of reviewing my overnight 1560 mp3 recordings. Nothing is
very strong.

Times / dates UTC:

19 FEB 2015
0401 Latin American music
0720 woman in Spanish
Maybe the same station for both of these.

At another time (not written down), there were hints of Black Gospel singing.

Most "hourtops" are a bust so far. Audio tends to rise up at times less likely
to produce ID material - Murphy's Law of DX.

I'll take another swing at it overnight 20-21 FEB.

I missed many a Monday in school thanks to late night DX sessions. Thankfully I
passed a state equivalency exam when I was 16. (They should offer more classes
in radio and electronics hi). Ms

I had the same experiences in trying to log KKAA as Kaz had in the late
1970s.  I do recall how much of a pest 1570-CKLM was.    I finally hit paydirt
on a February morning - the same morning as 1510-WPUT was running a DX Test.
My notes say that WOWO was off that Monday morning also and I heard PEI for the
first time (CHTN).   And I'm sure I had trouble staying awake in Grade 10 Math
class later that morning.

I recall the saga of logging KKAA from RI as a kid. WQXR vacated 1560 late at

Re: [IRCA] 1560 Family Radio

2015-02-19 Thread Dennis Gibson
Before Harold Camping died he said he didn't want Family Radio to continue
after his death.

When he predicted the end of the world on a certain day a few years ago a
number of followers sold everything they owned and prepared to die. I think
that was his second failed prediction.

After that donations dropped by 70%. A lot of employees were let go and it sold
a lot of stations, one of which was an FM not far away from me.

So what was the R&B station that I heard? It sure sounded like the R&B
IDed as WTNS.

You get double credit for the new Venezuelan I logged last night. Not only
for announcing the absence of WQEW, but also for getting Allesandro to ID
it. I thought my "Radio Nacional de Venezuela" was a Cuban shortwave image
of some kind. Now I'm going to claim it. Jim

carry country music, according to Radio Locator.

1729 another station appears with a "Real Country" non-ID.

The 'Radio Nacional de Venezuela" ID I heard last night appears to be
exactly that, based on Saul's reception. I think I'll count it as a new
one. I shoulda been taping it!

The CP to increase to 25 kW daytime was granted in November of 1994. The
license to cover was granted almost exactly a year later.

Re: [IRCA] 1560 NYC off

2015-02-17 Thread Rick Lewis
Dennis,
I don't rrecall exactly when, (I think it was after I left Bakersfield), but I
think the 25Kw day power for KPMC/KNZR began in the late 1980s.
I remember them as 10Kw day and night.
They mainly signed off at midnight till the early 70s, then ran till 1 AM or
later.
They had so many local sports commitments that a few Saturday nights they'd run
live Bakersfield College sports, and then they'd run tape-delayed sports
events, sometimes until nearly 5:45 AM sign-on.

As for the WQEW/KNZR situation the only unusual thing I could find is that KNZR
is a grandfathered Class A; 25 kW daytime and 10 kW nighttime. Most Class A
stations are 50 kW full time.

Re: [IRCA] 1560 NYC off

2015-02-17 Thread Dennis Gibson
It has PSSA in February from 6:00 to 8:00; 32 watts dropping to 25 watts. That
must be it. It has PSSA for two hours every month; 41 watts dropping to 26
watts in April, May, June and September and 32 watts dropping to 25 watts the
other months. I never see any discussion of PSRA and PSSA in all of the talk
about cheaters.

I have seen discussions regarding the accuracy of the PSRA and PSSA charts in
the FCC database. Several smart people and some research suggest that the
charts were issued in late February of 2007 and recalled a week or so later.
Does anyone want to tackle that topic?

And according to Earl Higgins, KCJJ in Iowa City (which was on 1560 with 1 kw

Actually, Dennis, they're not being naughty. I had raised this same concern
about KLNG a couple years ago (I live about 2 miles NNW of their stick), and
Glenn Hauser and others pointed out that they are allowed to stay on until two
hours after local sunset. With as few listeners as they pull in (I've not seen
them show up in ANY book over the past 5 years), I wouldn't be saddened to see
KLNG disappear completely.

Now getting Spanish programming. Radio Locator doesn't show any likely
domestics with Spanish, so I suspect Mexico, in which case I suspect Mexico
City, the one with the highest power. However, I have been having a lot of
problems with images this season, so who knows what I am actually hearing?
Just noted "Radio Nacional de Venezuela" at 2135. Nothing listed. Some
sort of image from Cuban shortwave, since they sometimes run the Venezuelan
program? Might be what I'm hearing on 6010. Now at 2138 sounds like
Mariachi music.

2013-10-21 Thread Rick Dau
And Joplin on 1560 is still silent.  I logged KTUI a few weeks ago at roughly
the same time of day that you did.  The station has an extremely local flavor,
and the announcer at the time gave current temps for nearly every location in
Missouri that has a reporting weather station (or, at least, it sure seemed
like it).  He must've gone on for at least 5 minutes.  Might be something that
other DXers can try for if they're up at that hour.

[IRCA] 1560 weather and 1580 HSFB unIDs

2011-10-03 Thread Chernos Saul

1560 and 1580 unIDs Any comments on the following are appreciated:

1580 - Sep 30 1940 EDT - "This is the high school football...(sounds like
Virginia)...1580 AM" at 00:39 of the 1580 clip. Am I the only one who hears
"Virginia" (which would point to Danville)? Weak under CKDO Oshawa ON.

1560 - Oct 1 0703 EDT - At 00:52 it sounds like "...from the WKTVY weather
center." A real jumble in there, maybe referring to the 1560 station, or
another station, or even a TV affiliate. Mixing with NYC Radio Disney.

Clips online at: www.wtfda.info/showthread.php?6661

Thx to all the DX Tipsters, this one was very easily heard from my home in
Troy (Southeastern Michigan) using a barefoot Sony ICF-2010, with a signal
strength running about even with WQEW. Program content exactly as described
by others hurricane and weather updates, appears to be live announcements
with occasional NWS updates mixed in (at least the voice sounded
similar...). Heard at 0350 on 13 Sept. 2008 (UTC).

Been a long day, good night and 73 from Joe
