Re: [JAWS-Users] the short cut key of Jaws

2008-01-17 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hi, you can't. Only one hot key can be assigned
per application. If you want control alt j to be
the hot key for JAWS 8, then you'll have to
assign another hot key for JAWS 6, such as control alt 6. Hope that helps.

[JAWS-Users] Office XP Pro & JAWS 9

2008-01-17 Thread Vicki
I have my Office XP Pro (2002) set to read caps and all caps in
configuration manager for Word. I also have it set to do this in the default
configuration manager. It is set to read either the word cap for a single
letter or all caps when the entire word is capped. It isn't working in
Office, but it is working in other applications. Anything I can do to fix
the problem? Thanks.

Hi Joe, in terms of your second problem, do you have the preview pain
active? If so, then by default Outlook Express will mark them as read
5 seconds after they've been opened in the preview pain. So try
turning off the preview pain. Hope that helps.

Hi, could be a problem with the language file for Eloquence, probably
eng.syn. But don't just delete it, just do a repair of JAWS. Hope that helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] strange thing happening with windows media palyer

2008-01-17 Thread Paul Shallbetter

Hi,

When an mp3 is encoded, it can be encoded at 44.1kHz, the normal
encoding resolution for audio CDs, for instance. Bitrate (the number
of bits used during a given time period in an audio stream) is another matter.

If the files are playing at double speed, I'd guess that they were
encoded at 22.05 kHz instead of 44.1. If this is the case,
"resample" the file in GoldWave and then save it under its original
filename. Problem solved.

You can write me off-list if I can help walk you through this. It's
pretty easy to do, but I'm not great at explaining things.

Let me know if I can help.

Re: [JAWS-Users] msn

2008-01-17 Thread Tony Hernandez
Hello Ming. If you have JAWS 6 or later, you should have a copy of the
scripts for msn already installed. To go to your preferences in msn, go to
the main window, not a conversation window, and type alt+t for the tools
menu, then the letter o for options. Look at the various categories that
you will see in the dialog and tab through the various options until you
find the correct one. Let us know if you need more help.

Hi. If you run a repair you can choose to to delete your settings or to
keep them. The question will pop up as you go through the wizard. Read
it carefully then decide yes or no.

[JAWS-Users] Spybot uppdates

2008-01-17 Thread Fred Adams
I recently installed Spybot-search and destroy successfully, I believe. I
have a problem when I try to install updates. When I press enter on
updates, jaws tells me to select place I want to select downloads from. I
select the place I want to download from and press enter and that is as far
as I can go. Every time I press enter on updates, jaws tells me to select
place to download from and I get no further than this. I will appreciate
any help.

 Best wishes,

Re: [JAWS-Users] What was the last really good version of Winamp?

2008-01-17 Thread Paul Shallbetter

I found Winamp v. 3.62 to be the most stable with JFW versions prior
to 7.0. This however is just my opinion.

The biggest problem I've found with later WinAmp versions is that the
library is nearly inaccessible, and the playlist editor seems much
harder to use. This could be the result of user error (mine) or
something intrinsic to WinAmp, but I never used to have the problems
I'm experiencing now with WinAmp 5.11.

I found Winamp v. 3.62 to be the most stable with JFW versions prior to 7.0.
This however is just my opinion.

The biggest problem I've found with later WinAmp versions is that the
library is nearly inaccessible, and the playlist editor seems much harder to
use. This could be the result of user error (mine) or something intrinsic
to WinAmp, but I never used to have the problems I'm experiencing now with
WinAmp 5.11.

[JAWS-Users] Office 2007

2008-01-17 Thread Cletus Hostetler
Hello Everybody:
I have Microsoft Office Small Business XP. The Excel program sometimes does
not start creating an error message. The Microsoft explanation states that
there is a Microsoft problem but Office XP is no longer supported except for
security problems and an upgrade to a new version is suggested.
What are your experiences using Jaws 9 with Office 2007? Is there any
information concerning the new method of accessing menus in Office 2007?
Any information will be appreciated. I am running Windows Home XP.
Thank you in advance.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Where did the British voice go?

2008-01-17 Thread orhan deniz
yeah do that,
or download eloquence from:
http://www.freedomscientific.com
go to the support link.

and select jaws from the combo box.
then select synthesisers from the other combobox.
once the page has loaded, press l to move to the list of questions.
remember: if you are using any version abuve jaws 4.5 eloquence 5.0 is not
recommended.
especially for versions of jaws 6 and later.

so you want eloquence 6.1

Hi, Fred!

You should not make it so.
You should make:
go to spybot, navigation menu, settings submenu, settings menupoint, press
it.
go down untill web update, on the tree view.
If you found, all things of updates check, but the proxi not, if you are not
sure, that you have proxi.
At the beginning of the tree view deselect all security saving options.
Greatings, and god bless!

[JAWS-Users] Excel.

2008-01-17 Thread sue morgan
Hi.

I'm a bit rusty on the old spreadsheets. I did E C D L last year and I can't
remember how to calculate from say A 1 to A 10. I remember using shift down
arrow to highlight the row numbers I wanted to use in the calculation, but I've
forgotten how to work out the total in those rows.

Please could someone jog my memory. I now wish I used spreadsheets more often
because when you do something all the time, you don't forget. Never mind, I'm
sure someone on this list can help me. I think there's a quick way of doing
this calculation without typing open bracket then equals and all of that.

Thanks.

Marilyn, this is an untechnical answer as you'll ever get, but press the long
key on the bottom of your numbers row, (the key on the left) hold it down while
you press the jaws cursor key. To get back to the PC cursor, just press the PC
curser key under the jaws cursor key.

[JAWS-Users] Office 2007 -- how to get around in it

2008-01-17 Thread Thomas j Vos
Friends,
I can't answer to the specific error message in the previous posting
about Office 2007, but I can say I am using Office 2007 with Windows XP,
and it's working rather well.
There is a learning curve because of the changes, but let's be thankful
that Microsoft does care about accessibility, and it is possible to get
around with keyboard navigation.
It is a change from the previous pull down menus, but not hugely
different once you adjust to it.
In Word:
Alt F still opens the File menu.
Alt H opens the menutab, which is much like the old Edit menu
Alt N opens the Insert menu
Alt P opens the Page Layout menu (lots of stuff here to explore)
Alt S opens the References menu
Alt M opens the Mailings menu
Alt R Opens the Review menu

>From There you can tab through the options. In older versions of Office
you could arrow down the menu, now you will tab through the options.

Note that some of the keyboard commands are still the same.
Alt O, C will still bring you to the columns menu. You can do it through
the new menus with Alt P, J too.
Alt O, F will still bring you to the Font menu
Alt T, S will still put you in the spell checker.

If you are struggling with learning the ropes in Office 2007, here's what
I suggest:
1. Go out and shovel snow for a half hour (we can do that today in Iowa)
2. Now that you've blown off steam, spend some time exploring the menus.

Use Alt H to open the Home menu, then tab through the options
there to see what each one is.
Then go to the next menu and tab through he options there.
3. Make yourself a "cheat sheet"
For each option there is a key command combination that will get
you there quicker than going to the menus and tabbing to the option you
want.
I made up my cheat sheet for the commands I usually use. Then, when I
forget the command I can open my cheat sheet and review. Eventually I'll
have the cheat sheet memorized, and you will too.
Blessings,
Tom

Hi you,

Did you try to using the Jaws scripts for Winamp?
If no, you'll find the newest scripts version to download on the Jaws-Users
script page.

I hope that helps.

[JAWS-Users] Re Excell

2008-01-17 Thread Thomas j Vos
You can use Auto Sum for totaling a column.
Usually you don't even have to highlight it.
Simply put the emphasis on the cell under your column of numbers.
Use Alt I, f to open the functions menu
Choose SUM
When you go back to this in the future it will go back to the function
you used previously.
The formula will be entered in the combo box.
If necessary you can edit it. Sometimes Excell doesn't have the correct
formula if you insert a line in the spreadsheet.
Then hit enter and you should have your total.
Blessings,
Tom

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Excel.

Hi.

I'm a bit rusty on the old spreadsheets. I did E C D L last year and I
can't remember how to calculate from say A 1 to A 10. I remember using
shift down arrow to highlight the row numbers I wanted to use in the
calculation, but I've forgotten how to work out the total in those rows.

Please could someone jog my memory. I now wish I used spreadsheets more
often because when you do something all the time, you don't forget. Never
mind, I'm sure someone on this list can help me. I think there's a quick
way of doing this calculation without typing open bracket then equals and
all of that.

Thanks.

Sue.

Hi,

I have this program and as soon as windows loads, avg tells me it is
updating updates and then I have to press spacebar for it to continue.
Maybe you should reinstall it.

Hi, I don't appear to be notified of new updates either, yet when I do a
check for updates it tells me that it's up to date. I thought at one stage
that like Ad Aware SE 1.06 AVG would have stopped producing updates due to
the lack of notification, until I checked a few days ago. Maybe a change has
occurred in the latest build of 7.5 that by default it no longer notifies
us. Hmm.

[JAWS-Users] Realspeak voices

2008-01-17 Thread matt D
Hi folks, I have jaws 8.0 and I am having an issue with the Scansoft/real
voices. I installed them, they worked for about a month, then they stopped
working. I've uninstalled and reinstalled them 6 times in the past year.
Anyone know what the issue is and how to solve it?
Thanks,
Matt

Re: [JAWS-Users] What was the last really good version of Winamp?

2008-01-17 Thread Jamie Pauls
I see now that pressing space does activate the menu. Pressing enter does
not. I'm pretty sure that Winamp and CDEX did not like playing together, but
all seems to be well now and the library does work better with the scripts.
Thanks.

Thanks. I guess I should be a bit more clear on my thinking. I was playing
with CDEX the other day and found that I could not seem to access the rip
function in the Winamp library after I had done so. I did not install ASPI
drivers for CDEX, hoping it would work without them. It did not. I decided
that maybe I had broken Winamp's ripping functions somehow and that I might
as well play with an older version of the program while I was messing
around. I then found the PC World article which piqued my interest. I
downloaded the 2.95 version and tried to extract a track from a CD. I had to
use the mouse movement commands to click the button and got an error about
not being able to open the encoder or something like that. I then
uninstalled CDEX and decided to try the current version of Winamp with the
scripts for the library. I find that the library does work much better with
the scripts installed. I am currently ripping some tracks from a CD, but
oddly enough I still have to manually click the rip button. Pressing space
or enter doesn't seem to activate it as it used to. Not sure what's going on
there. Using Jaws 9. Thanks.

Marilyn, I mainly use the JAWS cursor for navigating thru web pages. And
use the PC cursor for reading emails and documents. But I haven't been
using JAWS very long and I am sure that there are others on this list that
can give you a better explanation of the difference between the two and how
to get the most benefit out of each.

I did a JAWS repair and there was no change. I next followed the link

uninstalled CDEX and decided to try the current version of Winamp with the
scripts for the library. I find that the library does work much better with
the scripts installed. I am currently ripping some tracks from a CD, but
oddly enough I still have to manually click the rip button. Pressing space
or enter doesn't seem to activate it as it used to. Not sure what's going on
there. Using Jaws 9. Thanks.

Hi Jamie,
I guess that would depend on your audio/video needs.
For what I need and want to do, I have found 2.80 standard works great and
can be found on the audio page at:

Marilyn, I mainly use the JAWS cursor for navigating thru web pages. And
use the PC cursor for reading emails and documents. But I haven't been
using JAWS very long and I am sure that there are others on this list that
can give you a better explanation of the difference between the two and how
to get the most benefit out of each.

Re: [JAWS-Users] routing jaws to pc

2008-01-17 Thread David Whitehead
Hello Marilyn,

first, if your using ad-aware, personal addition, there are scripts for the
program, and the need of routing jaws to pc, is not necessary.

you would want to route jaws to pc, if for example; the ok button, or, the
finish button, wasn't accessible with the pc cursor.

normally, you could press,
insert+e, this would tell you what the default button is, ok, cancel,
finish, etc.

if you need to route jaws to pc, and lets say, you wanted to find the
continue button, you would route jaws to pc, arrow down the page, until you
heard, continue,
then, with arrow keys, place yourself on the letter C of continue, then?
press the left-mouse button.

I hope this is a decent explanation for you.

I don't use either exclusively, but at times I do use a combination of the

I'm probably not doing it in the most efficient way possible.
Again, I haven't been using jaws very long and I am probably just blundering

Linda, I think I'm sinking into more do do here with my question. When I
used adaware, I would use the jaws cursor to tell me what was on the screen,
but, of course, I couldn't enter on anything. So I heard a few people
recently talking about rerouting the jaws cursor andd decided there must be
a secret way of making jaws cursor lists navigable. marilyn

Alt : and enter on that as jaws will ask you if you want to do it from one

Also, put the cursor in A/11 first and then press the alt :

I believe this is a Talks software phone issue as well as a Jaws issue so I am
asking help from both areas. If I am off topic either way I am certain yall
will let me know. (smile) I am trying to compose and send a message using the
Nokia text message editor on the pc. I see the edit box to text the message and
I can shift tab up to get to the to button. When I press space bar I land on
the choose recipient list. I can arrow down or page down to get to the name I
want but when I hit enter or spacebar or route jaws to pc I get bounced back to
the to button. How do I add the recipient name to send the message. Thanks.

  Subject: [JAWS-Users] Nokia text editor

I believe this is a Talks software phone issue as well as a Jaws issue so I
am asking help from both areas.
Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] routing jaws to pc

2008-01-17 Thread David Griffith
I would add the following to the discussion.
Jaws does not in PC mode normally affect the movement of the mouse pointer .
Going into Jaws mode moves the mouse pointer and Jaws tries to read what is
under the mouse.

The concept of "routing jaws to PC" or "routing PC to Jaws" actually sounds
quite confusing. What I did to get my head around this is to substitute
mouse pointer for Jaws and moving for routing.
So
Routing jaws to PC cursor
This is better described as moving the mouse pointer to the PC cursor
position.
You achieve this by pressing insert plus the num pad minus key.
Pressing the arrow keys will now move the mouse pointer around the screen.
However importantly you will not be able to "scroll" the pages you are
viewing down. To do this you must return to PC cursor.

Routing PC to Jaws
This then becomes moving PC cursor to mouse position.
You achieve this by pressing insert plus num pad +
Moving the cursor will enable Jaws to control objects on the screen and for
example scroll down a multi page document or web page.

The final thing is to remember restrictions. Sometime in Jaws or Mouse
pointer mode you do not want to move around the whole screen but want to
keep within an application or frame. You can toggle these restrictions by
pressing insert plus R. If your jaws cursor does not appear to be going
anywhere you probably need to set unrestricted movement by pressing insert
plus R until you hear unrestricted.

Hope this is not too confusing.

David Griffith

Re: [JAWS-Users] Where did the British voice go?

2008-01-17 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hi, when you do a repair, you'll be asked if you want to remove user
settings. If you choose no, your user settings will of course not be
removed. The repair will scan for and repair deleted or corrupted
files that were installed during the initial installation. Registry
entries will also be scanned for and repaired. Hope that helps.

David, it is confusing but I admire you for figuring it out. Actually, it
would appear that the jaws programmer folks might take a look at this and
see what could be done to deconfuse this process. Remember when we had todo
two or three key things to manually turn on forms mode? What a time
consuming little dance that was (in an older version of jaws). Thanks for
sharing. marilyn

Hi Erin,
Yes, it's called ABC Amber Outlook Express Converter, and you can find it at
http://www.processtext.com/abcoe.html
There's a 30-day demo version, but you can only convert 10 messages at a
time. If you purchase the program, you can convert entire folders at once.

Hello maria,
I'd try media player classic.
its very easy to use.
I'd also go to control panel and auto play and turn the DVD to ask every
time. quick play isn't very accessible at all.
Hope this helps.
