Re: [JAWS-Users] version 10 first impression

2008-11-04 Thread Alan Terrie Robbins
Alex,

I hear you on that one. With each new version of Jaws that comes out I do
the beta thing and report issues. Most times, the new version that comes out
fixes some issues but then creates ones that were not in the previous
release. But I have to say overall it is a good product and without it I
would not be using the computer at all.

They haven't resolved any of the issues I reported in Outlook 2007, why
couldn't they just leave it as it was in version 9?

Same here, most of my beta issues are resolved with the release. So far so
good.

Well after only a few minutes I am glad to report that the sluggishness in
outlook express seems to have been cleared up quite nicely, and also the
reply directly to sender script is working for me just fine. So far I'm
liking this latest offering. My next test will be tandem which did work fine

under the beta cycle.

That is correct. You can not restrict them. You can always end the
session with INSERT ALT T of course but you should never let someone
else on your computer without paying close attention to what they are

Which version of JAWS? Which keyboard manager? What file of instructions
from the Jjaws-users Web page did you use?

In the meantime, this may help but I don't know if it will. I think you
may

be referring to the Configuration manager, Settings... Key labels tab;
though what key label there I know not. At any rate, there you press
spacebar on the toggle-mute/Speak button to have the key speak (or mute),
since it's an on/off toggle. . Pressing spacebar again Toggles it to
mute
again. You then tab over and enter to ok your change and then save it
with

ctrl-s before exiting with alt-F4. .

still works ok but no sound on lower case m. I went back and removed the

Yes, but according to the Tandem FAQ, you can download and run a 40 minute

Hi,

Ok, now we have the problem figured. It looks as if the shortcut m is still
there for Mute Synthesizer. Try the following, to change or delete it:

1. If you're using a desktop, open the keyboard manager with JAWSKey-8.

2. Press Ctrl-shift-D to open the default .jkm.

3. Press the letters Mu [unspaced] to bring you to the mute synthesizer
option.

4. Now press alt, and right-arrow into the Actions menu.

5. Now, up-arrow to either modify or delete. Enter on the one you
want.

6. If you chose modify, tab over to the edit field, and type in your new
key.

7. Tab to ok and enter. You will now be asked to confirm, and enter if
you're satisfied.

(This, or some slight variation of it, will solve the issue.)

it runs as a demo, you can use Tandem for 40 minutes at least. The following

text is obscured white in column.
In this column is the total of my additions. It is fine all the way down

cell 65, but after that I get this saying.
Could some one tell me how I can get it to say the formula. I have tried

I looked at the formula and it is the same in 66 as it is in 65.
I'm running jaws 8, windows XP, and excel 03.

Yes, but according to the Tandem FAQ, you can download and run a 40 minute
mode version of JAWS 10 on the target computer as long as the controller
computer has an authorized version of JAWS 10.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Lost sound on letter m lower case only

2008-11-04 Thread Flor Lynch

3. Press the lettes mu [unspaced] to bring you to the mute synthesizer
option.

I am using jaws 10 and windows XP. When I caused the problem, I was on the
keyboard manager under the default file mute synthesizer and I accidently
typed in the wrong shortcut key and then deleted it so I could type in the
right shortcut key and this was the beginning of my problem. Evidently I
deleted the lower case letter mI really appreciate your help.

Which version of JAWS? Which keyboard manager? What file of instructions
from the Jjaws-users Web page did you use?

In the meantime, this may help but I don't know if it will. I think you
 may
 be referring to the Configuration manager, Settings... Key labels tab;
though what key label there I know not. At any rate, there you press
spacebar on the toggle-mute/Speak button to have the key speak (or mute),
since it's an on/off toggle. . Pressing spacebar again Toggles it to
 mute
again. You then tab over and enter to ok your change and then save it
 with
 ctrl-s before exiting with alt-F4. .

While in the keyboard manager and using instructions from the jaws users
site, I accidently muted the letter m lower case. Capital letter m
still works ok but no sound on lower case m. I went back and removed the
mute short cut but this did not bring back sound to the letter m in
 lower
case. I would appreciate any help on straightening this out. I would like
very much to get the sound back. All other letters and numbers are OK.

[JAWS-Users] Another Bible Software For JAWS

2008-11-04 Thread Cybe Ron
Hi!

I just want to share this Bible website and this great Bible software
I discover, it is much accessible with JAWS and lots of translations
than Theophilos and OnLine Bible software, you can visit here for more
info:
http://www.unboundbible.org/

The name of the software is The Unbound Bible Tools, and it's freeware,
You can download here:

Over 100 Bible translations you can choose from, just select the
translation on the combo box and press the download button to this
site:

It's a ZIP file, extract it in:
C:\Program Files\The Unbound Bible Tools\Bibles
Run The Unbound Bible Tools, from the menu bar select Bible and choose
the translation you downloaded.
Enjoy reading!

Revelation 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the
words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written
therein: for the time is at hand.

As a bonus, I found a very sensible and one of a kind Bible website

Subject: [JAWS-Users] ajustJAWS verbosity dialog

good morning folks:
in a diffrent situations, ajust jaws verbosity have diffrent options:
i know quite that depend on wich applacation that your curser landed
on.
but i prefer to set that in your own settings.
in jaws startup wizirt.
on wich mode that you would like your verbosity to be in?
i remember that erick damery mentioned while he talking about what's
new in jaws nine, in the certain point of startup wizirt, and how
it's great , how it's wonderfull etc.
when he demonstrated using sappy five during say all: that checkbox
he mentioned : i hope that users and customers could creat startup
wizirt as they own.
and navagate among features and options as they like, configure them
self and manage their own settings.
he said: i'd like that to be in the future.
wich future?
the next version of jaws. wich is ten.
we've got it right now.
but unfortunately: there is no any managing of your own settings.
even that feature wich using sappy five during say all checkbox, has
been removed from the startup wizirt section.
actually: i don't know what freedomscientific planning to.
when a product manager said something, it should be available in the
next update, next version, hmm, hmm.
people: please post your opinions about that particular issue.
i think that quite necessary to talk about.
open discussion.

Re: [JAWS-Users] version 10 first impression, regarding Tandem

2008-11-04 Thread Dan Rossi
Just the idea of the code being in place that allows remote access to my
computer gives me the heebee geebees. Sure, windows has similar code in
it, and look at how many patches come out simply to fix all the holes in
that code.

Just because someone isn't supposed to be able to access your computer, if
you don't invite them to, doesn't necessarily mean they can't through some
hole that this code is specifically designed to open.

But I am a bit more paranoid than most about these things.

Hi!

I just want to share this Bible website and this great Bible software
I discover, it is much accessible with JAWS and lots of translations
than Theophilos and OnLine Bible software, you can visit here for more
info:
http://www.unboundbible.org/

The name of the software is The Unbound Bible Tools, and it's freeware,
You can download here:
http://vrsoft.org.ru/english/unbound.shtml

Over 100 Bible translations you can choose from, just select the
translation on the combo box and press the download button to this
site:
http://www.unboundbible.org/index.cfm?method=downloads.showDownloadMain

It's a ZIP file, extract it in:
C:\Program Files\The Unbound Bible Tools\Bibles
Run The Unbound Bible Tools, from the menu bar select Bible and choose
the translation you downloaded.
Enjoy reading!

Revelation 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the
words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written
therein: for the time is at hand.

As a bonus, I found a very sensible and one of a kind Bible website
that I searched for a long time, and i'm proud to share it to you all.

In theory that's true. But enterprising hackers are always devising schemes

intercept the security code and gain access to somebody else's computer

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 10 Tandem

2008-11-04 Thread Dan Rossi
This is the last message I will say on this topic. There is no conspiracy
here. The simple fact is that remote code execution security holes are
pretty common. Unless the developers for this particular code are years
ahead of everyone else there are undoubtedly security holes in this tandem
software. Once you put the functionality into the software, someone out
there will eventually figure out how to exploit it. I am not suggesting
that FreedomScientific will be spying on you or anything like that. I am
just saying that we see attacks like this at the university all the time,
although via other vectors. Never-the-less, this just gives some hacker
another bunch of code to possibly exploit.

Personally, I think the threat is relatively small because of the small
install base, but saying that absolutely no one will ever get access to
your machine without being invited is a bit nieve.

This is true but if you install JAWS 10 on the target computer, even
though it runs as a demo, you can use Tandem for 40 minutes at least.
The following web page offers a lot of questions and answers regarding

Kathy, It's hard to say, there's a lot of personal preference involved. If I
was about to buy a Braille display, I would look at what's available and
decide which one you like best.

This is the last message I will say on this topic. There is no
conspiracy here. The simple fact is that remote code execution security
holes are pretty common. Unless the developers for this particular code
are years ahead of everyone else there are undoubtedly security holes in
this tandem software. Once you put the functionality into the software,
someone out there will eventually figure out how to exploit it. I am
not suggesting that FreedomScientific will be spying on you or anything
like that. I am just saying that we see attacks like this at the
university all the time, although via other vectors. Never-the-less,
this just gives some hacker another bunch of code to possibly exploit.

Personally, I think the threat is relatively small because of the small
install base, but saying that absolutely no one will ever get access to
your machine without being invited is a bit nieve.

Re: [JAWS-Users] refreshable Braille displays

2008-11-04 Thread Russell J. Thomas, Jr
Before purchasing one, you should contact a sales rep from various providers
so you can try it out first. Check and compare features so that you can get
one that meets your needs.

You might also check some websites to see if someone is selling a used
model. That would save you some money and give you a chance to check out the
features of a particular model.

A major issue for you is what happens when it doesn't work. Where do you
have to send it to get it fixed and how long will it take and how much will
it cost. If you live in a large metropolitan area, see if there is some
person or some agency that you can take it too for repair. Once you have
any piece of technology, you depend on it so much that if it doesn't work,
it will cause you some major problems.

Respectfully,

Re: [JAWS-Users] refreshable Braille displays

2008-11-04 Thread Dan Rossi
After a bit of research, my current first choice for a braille display is
the Brailliant 40. It is the smallest 40 cell display I have found, 12.2
inches, by 2.9 inches, by 0.8 inches thick. And, although not the
lightest, it is pretty light at 1.2 pounds. I like the size, and that it
is bluetooth as well as USB. Hard to believe, but they say it gets 25
hours on bluetooth or 100 hours on USB.

I've not gotten my hands on one, but I know the guy at Blind and Vision
Rehab Services of Pittsburgh who is in charge of their technology division
and he says it feels like a solid unit and he has had no specific troubles
with it.

There are plenty of other displays out there as well.

I think the Brailliant 40 sells for $4800. They also have a 24, 32, 64,
and 80 cell version.

Alex,

I hear you on that one. With each new version of Jaws that comes out I do
the beta thing and report issues. Most times, the new version that comes out
fixes some issues but then creates ones that were not in the previous
release. But I have to say overall it is a good product and without it I
would not be using the computer at all.

Well after only a few minutes I am glad to report that the sluggishness in
outlook express seems to have been cleared up quite nicely, and also the
reply directly to sender script is working for me just fine. So far I'm
liking this latest offering. My next test will be tandem which did work fine

under the beta cycle.

Hi,

Ok, now we have the problem figured. It looks as if the shortcut m is
still

there for Mute Synthesizer. Try the following, to change or delete it:

1. If you're using a desktop, open the keyboard manager with JAWSKey-8.

2. Press Ctrl-shift-D to open the default .jkm.

3. Press the lettes mu [unspaced] to bring you to the mute synthesizer
option.

Which version of JAWS? Which keyboard manager? What file of
instructions

from the Jjaws-users Web page did you use?

In the meantime, this may help but I don't know if it will. I think you
may
be referring to the Configuration manager, Settings... Key labels tab;
though what key label there I know not. At any rate, there you press
spacebar on the toggle-mute/Speak button to have the key speak (or mute),
since it's an on/off toggle. . Pressing spacebar again Toggles it to
mute
again. You then tab over and enter to ok your change and then save it
with
ctrl-s before exiting with alt-F4. .

While in the keyboard manager and using instructions from the jaws users

still works ok but no sound on lower case m. I went back and removed
the

mute short cut but this did not bring back sound to the letter m in
lower
case. I would appreciate any help on straightening this out. I would
like

very much to get the sound back. All other letters and numbers are OK.

you have to widen your column. Do a control spacebar on the column, then

[JAWS-Users] activating jaws version 10

2008-11-04 Thread ahmed alomran
hi folks
I purchased jaws two weeks ago, and I was told that I am qualified to use jaws
version 10. I am wondering about the method of activating jaws 10 via the
authorisation code which is saved on a cd that came with the original box of
jaws 9. can I use the same authorisation code to activate version 10? or shall
I request a new authorisation code from my local dealer.
kind regards.

It does nothing if you don't allow anyone to connect to you. There are safe
guards built in to tandem to not allow someone to connect to you without
permissions.

Re: [JAWS-Users] What is Jaws 10 Tandem

2008-11-04 Thread Chris Hallsworth

Hope this helps. Welcome to JAWS Tandem
To start using JAWS TandemT, jump to the links at the bottom of this page,
or continue reading the following introduction to JAWS Tandem and its
requirements.

JAWS Tandem is a feature that lets you access another computer running JAWS,
so that you can provide hands-on technical support, write scripts from a
distance, or perform remote JAWS training. This feature consists of a
controller system, used by support personnel, distributors, dealers,
consultants, and trainers, and a target system, which is the customer's JAWS
application and computer. JAWS Tandem operation on the controller system is
a subscription service, while the use of JAWS Tandem on the target system is
free and always available for the end user.

A JAWS Tandem connection serves as an online meeting between two JAWS users.
A meeting can be conducted over the Internet, this is known as a Tandem
Center session, or over a private network, known as a Tandem Direct session.
The primary connection method will be through Tandem Center, a gateway
server responsible for creating meeting IDs, verifying proper use of JAWS
Tandem, and providing a path between the two systems. After the session is
established, the controller can manage and run the target system's desktop.

Requirements and General Information
JAWS Tandem is available in JAWS 10 or later.
JAWS Tandem requires Windows XP or later. It is not necessary to have the
same operating system on both ends of the connection. For example, one
computer can be running Windows XP while the other is running Windows Vista.

Internet access is required for a Tandem Center session.
Tandem Center is a gateway server providing a connection between the
controller system and the target system. It is responsible for generating
meeting IDs.
If you have issues connecting to the Tandem Center, please make sure that
Internet address tandem.freedomscientific.com and port 12000 have firewall
access. If you are in a corporate environment, please contact your IT team
with this information.
Eloquence is the minimum voice synthesizer required by both systems. The
same voice is used for the duration of the session. During the connection
handshake, JAWS Tandem detects which voices are currently in used by both
systems. If there is a mismatch, you have the option to automatically change
your synthesizer until there is a match. Once the session is over, JAWS will
return to its previous synthesizer voice.
JAWS Tandem running as a controller is a subscription service; JAWS Tandem
running as a target is free. Note that with the initial JAWS 10 release,
controller operation is being offered for free for a limited period.
For Tandem Direct sessions, the target system listens on port 3000 by
default.

Running JAWS Tandem
Visit JAWS Tandem Center to start and run a Tandem Center session.
Visit JAWS Tandem Keystrokes for a list of keystrokes.
Visit JAWS Tandem FAQs for additional information.
Visit JAWS Tandem Direct for private network connections.

server responsible for creating meeting IDs, verifying proper use of JAWS

For Tandem Direct sessions, the target system listens on port 3000 by
default.

hi folks
I purchased jaws two weeks ago, and I was told that I am qualified to use
jaws version 10. I am wondering about the method of activating jaws 10 via
the authorisation code which is saved on a cd that came with the original
box of jaws 9. can I use the same authorisation code to activate version 10?
or shall I request a new authorisation code from my local dealer.
kind regards.

Hey Gang,
In my excel spread sheet, my formula keeps on saying
text is obscured white in column.
In this column is the total of my additions. It is fine all the way down
to
cell 65, but after that I get this saying.
Could some one tell me how I can get it to say the formula. I have tried
to
copy and paste, but no luck.
I looked at the formula and it is the same in 66 as it is in 65.
I'm running jaws 8, windows XP, and excel 03.
Thanks for all help.
