Re: [JAWS-Users] under options after tools list how do I changelanguage combo box?

2009-01-17 Thread Flor Lynch
It sounds like French is the only language you have available for
spell-checking. therefore, as previously directed, download a free
(English-llanguage)spell checker (such as what David wrote of) and it will
work.

Re: [JAWS-Users] under options after tools list how do I change language combo box?

2009-01-17 Thread Gerald Levy

Unfortunately, you cannot change the default French option in the Language
combo box. This is a bug that Microsoft has been aware of for years, but
for some reason, refuses to acknowledge. However, you can fix this problem
by downloading one of the free spell checkers mentioned previously or Spell
Checker for OE 2.1 from the web site below. This will replace the French
dictionary with an English one that works properly when you hit F7. If all
else fails, maybe Harpo can proofread your email messages. Lol!

If view messages by conversation is unchecked and we are still hearing
'collapsed', then that is a false report. I don't find any other way
messages could be 'collapsed' unless view by conversation is, in fact,
checked. Have her: Unload JAWS; reload it; and Press enter, NOT spacebar,
on view messages by conversation, and repeat the process if necessary, to
uncheck it.

look in your graphic card properties. See if it has two out puts and

that says that nvdia is my first graphics card and that jaws driver
is installed.
also it also gives the driver name and underneath it says something
about true when active and fals when inactive.
then it has the options to reinstall the driver or to uninstall.
when i know just tab twice and then enter it closes this message and
i can start working with jaws, no problem.
now i should be happy that the reader is working fine but to have to
tabb and close this message down whenever i boot, is somewhat
annoying. is there any way to not have this message come up every
time? i have also tried to use the reinstall option and restarted
jaws but i just get the info that the driver is already installed.
is there anything i need to do to my graphics card to prevent this

[JAWS-Users] More on JAWS not reading email messages

2009-01-17 Thread Arianna Calesso
I discovered that JAWS 9 is acting the same way--not reading mesages in OE.
I am able to go up and down the list of messages, but when i open a message
the computer will neither automatically read the message as it always has
nor will using the cursor up and down read anything.

I checked and video intercept is installed for both versions 9 and 10. I
have completely uninstalled Autosizer also.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? This might be a clue: I
uninstalled JAWS 7.10 and 8 and I'm wondering if that has caused this
problem.

I also just checked in programs jaws inside the display chaining manager.
there it says that the jaws video intercept is installed and under 'primary'
someone suggested also that i remove the wdm driver that came with my

video-in. I tried that and rebooted windows. still the same message though

Are there any good tricks for selecting multiple items in a multi-select

list box? I need to set up my preferences in the new zap2it.com TV
listings
page. It contains two multi-select list boxes, one for available
channels
and one for my favorites. There several buttons in between to add,
remove
and move items up and down in the favorites list. In my case, there are

over 800 available channels. There is a hint on the page to use the
Shift
and Control keys to select multiple items. However, if I use the
Control
key to select multiple items in the manner I would in the Windows
Explorer,
JAWS does not announce the items as I arrow down the list with the
Control
key held down. I thought I read somewhere there was a keystroke to
make a
multi-select list box easier to select. Perhaps it brought up the
contents
of the list box up in a separate JAWS dialog? Am I dreaming this? Are
there any tricks / methods I can use to get these preferences set?

Hi,
It is possible that they are sitting on the group messages by conversation
line

and they see that it is unchecked. It is fairly common to just hit the
enter key, thereby checking it. I have ocationally done that myself, not

If view messages by conversation is unchecked and we are still hearing
'collapsed', then that is a false report. I don't find any other way
messages could be 'collapsed' unless view by conversation is, in fact,
checked. Have her: Unload JAWS; reload it; and Press enter, NOT spacebar,
on view messages by conversation, and repeat the process if necessary, to
uncheck it.

Go into the tool menu, under options, under the read tab, and check with
the space bar, auto expand group messages and see if that helps. Or un
install JFW and re install it. But before doing any thing, make sure the
group message in the view menu is unchecked by entering on it.

[JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007

Hi all, how can I improve Outlook 2007 so that it works better with JAWS 10?
Only just upgraded to Office 2007 so haven't had much chance to play with

intuitive in how to use them. Anyway, that's beside the point. All help

Turn off the reading pain, this has to be done in each folder, even when you

Are there any good tricks for selecting multiple items in a multi-select

list box? I need to set up my preferences in the new zap2it.com TV
 listings
page. It contains two multi-select list boxes, one for available
 channels
and one for my favorites. There several buttons in between to add,
 remove
and move items up and down in the favorites list. In my case, there are

over 800 available channels. There is a hint on the page to use the
 Shift
and Control keys to select multiple items. However, if I use the
 Control
key to select multiple items in the manner I would in the Windows

JAWS does not announce the items as I arrow down the list with the
 Control
key held down. I thought I read somewhere there was a keystroke to
 make a
multi-select list box easier to select. Perhaps it brought up the
 contents
of the list box up in a separate JAWS dialog? Am I dreaming this? Are
there any tricks / methods I can use to get these preferences set?

There's no task list in Outlook 2007. Everything's off, including the
navigation pain. Does AVG have to do with anything like slow performance?
I'm referring to its Outlook plug-in and not AVG itself.

Turn off the reading pain, this has to be done in each folder, even when
you
create a new one. Also, you can uncheck the box in the view minue that
says
show messages in groups, uncheck the task list also. This is how I get
the

best performance.

Only just upgraded to Office 2007 so haven't had much chance to play with
settings. I have to say the ribbons are very nice indeed and JAWS is
intuitive in how to use them. Anyway, that's beside the point. All help
would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I don't think so.
While I don't like to see someone else having difficulties, I'm glad I'm not
alone in having these problems!

I really wish the archives had a search feature; I would do a search for
Outlook 2007 and see how some of the pros are using it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007

2009-01-17 Thread Chris Hallsworth
It just seems slow when it downloads e-mail. Also JAWS doesn't read messages
automatically even if the option to do so is enabled. It will, however read
messages automatically if I first close the message view and re-open it, but
what a time consuming process that would be! Hope this helps.

Ah'm, this is no bug. Outlook Express is no longer being developed by
Microsoft, and does not gel with office 2007. To go fully with that, you
must either use outlook 2007 or upgrade your email client to Windows Mail -
which many users find rather unsatisfactory. Myself, I am using an older
version of office which is compatible with outlook Express.

Ah'm, this is no bug. Outlook Express is no longer being developed by
Microsoft, and does not gel with office 2007. To go fully with that, you
must either use outlook 2007 or upgrade your email client to Windows
Mail -

which many users find rather unsatisfactory. Myself, I am using an older
version of office which is compatible with outlook Express.

Unfortunately, you cannot change the default French option in the
Language

combo box. This is a bug that Microsoft has been aware of for years, but
for some reason, refuses to acknowledge. However, you can fix this
problem by downloading one of the free spell checkers mentioned
previously

or Spell Checker for OE 2.1 from the web site below. This will replace
the French dictionary with an English one that works properly when you
hit

F7. If all else fails, maybe Harpo can proofread your email messages.
Lol!

then general page then spelling I tabbed got language combo box. Now it
says Frencyh. It also says to change press arrows but I tried that and
it

It just seems slow when it downloads e-mail. Also JAWS doesn't read messages

automatically even if the option to do so is enabled. It will, however read
messages automatically if I first close the message view and re-open it, but

what a time consuming process that would be! Hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Excel 2003 formulas

2009-01-17 Thread Patricia Dunbar
Well depending on what she wants to do if, adding the cells in the columns
she should arrow to the blank cell below the last entry . So think she said
G cell forget the row number,
Then if adding the columns press Alt and the equals sign and excel will add
it all up and place the totaled figure in the cell indicated. It will say
even all the corresponding cells to be added to obtain the formula. Once
this is pressed, excel says the totaled amount and you will hear the word
formula.

So if you had A/1
B/1
C/1
full of numbers you wanted to add up, then place your cursor in D/4 and
press the Alt and the equal sign and all those will be added and placed into
the D/4 cell

what is balance forward? What is pay to? If you can describe in words

[JAWS-Users] Nokia pc suite

2009-01-17 Thread Lenny McHugh
Does anyone use Nokia PC Suite with Jaws? I am using jaws 10 on an xp home
computer. On the Nokia site it gives instructions for jaws users to install
the software. I wanted to edit my contacts on a nokia 6085 phone. After the
connection is established jaws can't read the contacts. I had my daughter
sitting by me and I was positioned on the contacts but jaws could not read
them. I had her make the changes. The primary reason that I purchased that
phone was so that I could update via computer.
Thanks

[JAWS-Users] JAWS making some crackling sounds

2009-01-17 Thread Chris Feist
HI all. On another computer I use which is not my own property, JAWS has
recently began to make random crackling noises. It gives out these little
snapping sounds. It's not overwhelming, but it's distracting and I'm afraid
it might get worse.

I checked, and the only change recently made on this computer was that a PCI
wireless card was installed. I doubt that has anything to do with it, but
who knows. My question is for anyone else who has had this occurrence take
place with JAWS, do you have any troubleshooting tips, or what you
discovered to be the most common problem in this regard?

I'm using JAWS 7.0 with Eloquence on an XP Home Dell computer.

Thanks,

Ah'm, this is no bug. Outlook Express is no longer being developed by
Microsoft, and does not gel with office 2007. To go fully with that, you
must either use outlook 2007 or upgrade your email client to Windows
Mail -

which many users find rather unsatisfactory. Myself, I am using an older
version of office which is compatible with outlook Express.

Unfortunately, you cannot change the default French option in the
Language
combo box. This is a bug that Microsoft has been aware of for years,
but

for some reason, refuses to acknowledge.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS making some crackling sounds

2009-01-17 Thread Victor
Wasn't there something about making sure that the wave something or other
was used, and that the number associated with the setting had to be set
properly?

I seem to remember that would fix the problem of the crackling sound.

The way I see it, downloading the drivers for something other than the SB
sound cards or Gateway computers would have an adverse affect on one's
computer, if they are not running this specific hardware technology.

Also, I noticed that the bulletin mentioned that after installing the
drivers for option two, involving Gateway drivers, it would switch your
audio from digital to analog.

Is this advisable, considering many of us use Winamp and other software to
play digital files?

Just wondering as I too have had issues where Jaws has crackled once in a
while, but it wasn't frequent enough to warrant complaining about it.

Any ideas Rick?

I can add one more. Do alt+up and down arrows for reading sentinses work in
OE when writing a message? here they don't work. Only alt+numpad 5 gives
results

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Possible bug in JAWS 10

Hello all,
I may have found a bug in JAWS 10. If you go to a site that you've
personalized then close it, JAWS may announce personalized settings for
this site when you're not even on the site. It's as if JAWS is
hallucinating! Anyone experienced this problem?
