Re: [JAWS-Users] Silencing announcements of Bullits.

2009-09-24 Thread Flor Lynch

Darran,

There are several different types of bullets, which is one reason you
haven't managed to silence the speaking of them. Also, how are you
going about the dictionary entry? Do you get the ANSI value and then
add it?

Hi List.

Can anyone tell me if there's a way to silence the announcement of the
bullet symbol? I've tried doing this via the JAWS dictionary, but this
simply doesn't work!

I feel sure there must be a way to achieve this, and would appreciate
any help.

Thanks, Floor. I've seen that in Adobe sometimes too but have the
latest
JAWS, so am not sure why that comes up sometimes. It is not
consistent.
This student's IE8 dialog is consistent though, even if she goes to
another
web page. I told her I thought she'd have to uninstall IE8, but
wanted to
see if anyone else had experienced this same problem before going that
route.

It is still a JAWS issue as such. It is an insufficient version of
JAWS
reading. you could close the window, and get rid of the dialogue; but
you
might also get rid of internet Explorer then too. A similar scenario
sometimes may happen with pdf documents opened in Adobe Reader.
however, that occurred in a separate window, and hasn't bothered me
for some
time.

That could be because JAWS 7.1 don't support IE 8. IE 8 supports a
lot of
new stuff on web sites, that 7 didn't. JAWS 7 does not have the
built
in
support for these things. JAWS 10 did a pretty good job with IE 8
but
JAWS
11 works even better with it.

A student with IE8 is getting this dialog every time she opens
IE8:
"Open parent document button." I cannot locate anything in the
add-ons
which look
suspicious. Is this a part of IE8 or how can it be eliminated? As
soon
as
she arrows down one time, she is
stuck on the button and cannot read the page or access any links.
She is
using JAWS7.1. (Strangely, the JAWS cursor can read the screen but
cannot
see
the "Open parent document button" dialog on the screen. With the
virtual
cursor, she cannot move anywhere after pressing the down arrow that
first
time.
Also, she can't read any menus unless she does a manual 'say line'
command.
I realize that neither IE7 nor IE8 are fully supported by JAWS7.1,
but she got IE8 as an automatic download.

Is this dialog just a part of IE8 or can it be eliminated? BTW, she
is
able
to bring up the control-O dialog as a temporary work-around, but
cannot
access
the search edit box on her Google home page.

Interesting. When did you sign up. Once I got past the initial sign-up, I
found I was able to access online bill pay and manage my account settings
with no problems whatsoever. The registration was also accessible with a few
minor annoyances related to DHTML up until I reached the password
confirmation screen. Other than that it's very accessible.

Hi folks. Just wondering if anybody has had any experience
signing up for an online account with American Express Small
Business using the online account registration forms at
http://www.open.com.

I got through most of the registration OK until I reach the
screen for entering and confirming my password. After that,
JAWS wouldn't read the "continue" button and several of the
important links on the secure area of the page. I ended up
having to contact customer service for assistance completing
the process.

I was using JAWS version 10 Build 1154 with Internet
Explorer 8, but haven't tried the page under Firefox or with
the JAWS 11 Beta or System Access, so the page might still
be accessible, but not with JAWS and IE 8. The page seems to
use a lot of DHTML elements and Java, and the support person
I spoke with said their is Flash content on these pages as
well. Just wondering if anybody has had experience with this
registration and JAWS. Best regards,

Chris.

I was given a copy of Microsoft Office from a friend 12 months ago and my
computer is now telling me that it's not genuine. I've downloaded Genuine
Microsoft Advantage, but I'm not sure what to do next as Windows can't
open the program when I select it from downloads in Vista.

I've heard that there's something called Open Office which is free, but I
don't know anything about it. Does anyone on this list use it? If not,
how can I make my copy of Microsoft genuine. I'm really stuck so please
help!!!

Thanks.

Thanks, Mike, for the instructions on widening the Subject field. I wasn't
aware of that. My Subject line was set at 350 which must be the default.

Hi Lenny,

Have you tried widening your subject line? If you haven't use the steps
below to do so. These are steps are for XP / Outlook Express users. I
don't know if they will work with Vista / Windows Mail or XP / Outlook.
While in Outlook Express press the alt + V keystroke for the view menu.
2. Arrow down to " Columns " and press enter or just press the letter " C ".
3. Arrow down to " Subject " and with " Subject " highlighted press the
keystroke alt + W. You will get a message stating how many pixels wide your
subject line is currently set for. Back space this number out and type 400
or 425. I currently have mine set at 430. This will widen your subject
line so more print will fit. After you type in your desired number of
pixels tab to okay and press enter. Hope this helps. Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS7.1 & IE8 problem

2009-09-24 Thread Don and Cher Bosch
Thanks, Floor. I've seen that in Adobe sometimes too but have the latest
JAWS, so am not sure why that comes up sometimes. It is not consistent.
This student's IE8 dialog is consistent though, even if she goes to another
web page. I told her I thought she'd have to uninstall IE8, but wanted to
see if anyone else had experienced this same problem before going that
route.

It is still a JAWS issue as such. It is an insufficient version of JAWS
reading. you could close the window, and get rid of the dialogue; but you
might also get rid of internet Explorer then too. A similar scenario
sometimes may happen with pdf documents opened in Adobe Reader.
however, that occurred in a separate window, and hasn't bothered me for some
time.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws settings for Windows Vista

2009-09-24 Thread tim
Not really, but if you want it to look look or react like xp. then
you have to use classic in a few spots like display, start menu
setting, and control panel.

Other then the look, learn vista, because its not xp and don't act like it.

Also, to start jaws, do start run with is the letter r, and type jaws10.
