Re: [JAWS-Users] successful win 7 install, works well with jaws 10

2009-10-23 Thread Dickson Tan

Hi everyone

I've done the first part of the win7 install without sighted assistance. If
you do not boot from the win7 DVD but pop it into your current OS, you
should complete most of the steps with jaws available.

Not sure how to do an entirely unattended install though.

I have just installed my windows 7 retail, clean install on my desktop pc.
Worked like a charm, no problems, installed all drivers itself with the
installation. I did not even have to look for my realtek audio drivers.
Everything works out of the box.
I am running jaws 10 latest build and all worked fine there too, it
automatically adjusted itself with the graphics drivers and said it is
now

in windows 7 basic. So far no problems with jaws 10 reading everything,
navigating works very well.
Very impressed so far. Have two more systems to install now, lol

I did a clean install, because I also created a couple of new partitions and
reformatted and deleted all the old partitions. so I used the win 7 cd and
booted from it.
for an upgrade to install over existing os, I guess you can use jaws and
then narrator to get you thru the process by yourself.

Hi, you can do an in place upgrade (supported only on certain paths) or a
custom (clean) install. Either way you should back up your files, and I
would go with a custom anyway since you'll start fresh and not carry over
existing problems from an upgrade.

Re: [JAWS-Users] 2 inboxes

2009-10-23 Thread Jon Pierson
Hi Hugh,
I had this problem at one time and I had either copied the in-box or the
.pst file where the mailboxes are stored had become corrupt.

The best place to start is with the folder tree; see if you can actually see
where the second in-box is, paying particular attention to expanding and
checking in Search Folders at the bottom of the folder tree.
You should be able to at some point delete one of them after determining if
mail comes to both in-boxes or just one and of course, backing up your
Outlook 2003 data.
First, try compacting your mailboxes and see if that fixes it.

Jon

Hi Hugh,

This could be because you have more than one email account, or more than
one profile set up for the same email account.

The steps to combine the two is intricate and I can't recall that off
hand, alternatively, just delete the email account/profile you don't
use, from within the mail settings under control panel.

The settings are accessible with all jaws versions.

Hi Fred,

I'm afraid you'll need to reinstall JAWS11, unless we have somebody with
superior scripting knowledge or from Freedom Scientific speak here, or

You made m a toggle key to mute something or other and saved it,
probably in the default.jkm. then when you realized that that was a
mistake you deleted it. Unfortunately, the letter m was not restored to
its former typing majesty: and further unfortunately, I couldn't

I have just installed my windows 7 retail, clean install on my desktop pc.
Worked like a charm, no problems, installed all drivers itself with the
installation. I did not even have to look for my realtek audio drivers.
Everything works out of the box.
I am running jaws 10 latest build and all worked fine there too, it
automatically adjusted itself with the graphics drivers and said it is now
in windows 7 basic. So far no problems with jaws 10 reading everything,
navigating works very well.
Very impressed so far. Have two more systems to install now, lol

Hi Roger,

Installing 11.0.latest is my next step, but you can't merge personal scripts
from Jaws 10 into Jaws 11. So, I have to copy paste the scripts into Jaws
11 or something to get my scripts that I use in my other Jaws versions to
work in Jaws 11. Well, I think I hear Doctor Phil calling, gotta go! I'll
try to take care. LOL

2009-10-23 Thread Becky B
Hi David. I'm checking to see if this goes only to you. Also, below is a
note I received from FS yesterday when I wrote to them about our list
problem. I also reported it twice on the beta form, which apparently no one
saw.

Dear Becky:

Thank you for contacting Freedom Scientific Support.

This is the first we have heard of this issue with JAWS 11. What lists
are you referring to? You might want to call our support hotline at
727-803-8600 and show us. We really need more information.

Where is this problem occurring?
What operating system?

Did you merge previous JAWS settings from an earlier version?

Please try the following.

Remove your JAWS settings and restart JAWS.

To set JAWS to the defaults:

If you are using any third party scripts, back them up first.

1. Press the windows logo key to open the Start Menu.

2. Press the letter P for Programs or go to the all programs sub-menu.

3. Press the letter J till you come to the JAWS version you are looking
for and press enter.

4. Press Enter on Explore JAWS.

5. Down arrow to explore my settings and press Enter.

6. Press control+A to select all settings then hold down the shift key
and press the delete key.

7. Restart JAWS.

Please call us and show us this issue.

Thank you.

Re: [JAWS-Users] m key muted in lower case

2009-10-23 Thread Flor Lynch
H'mmm. I wonder if removing all personal settings would unmute the
letter m? I got the impression not, since it was modifying a Keyboard
manager file; but it's worth a try, Fred. I decided to uninstall (and
then reinstall) JAWS10 anyway, as there were some other issues
concerning me with it of late; but the failure to unmute a letter was
the spur that goaded.

I'd love to be proved wrong, though. Where, in JAWS, can one (or may
one) modify how and when an alphanumeric (letter or number) character
is spoken (pronounced), if for some reason or fancy you wanted to
change how (and when) a particular letter is spoken? (This doesn't
refer to the JAWS Dictionary, where 'words' are the currency in use.)

Hi Fred,

I'm afraid you'll need to reinstall JAWS11, unless we have somebody
with superior scripting knowledge or from Freedom Scientific speak
here, or you contact them. I have reproduced your problem.
Something like this. You made m a toggle key to mute something or
other and saved it, probably in the default.jkm. then when you
realized that that was a mistake you deleted it. Unfortunately, the
letter m was not restored to its former typing majesty: and further
unfortunately, I couldn't resolve the problem, so had to reinstall
(In my case JAWS10).

While setting up a toggle mute in the jaws manager I accidently
muted the letter m in lower case. I have gone back in the jaws
manager several times but I cannot restore the letter m back
unmuted in lower case. I am having no problem with the letter M
in upper case. I would appreciate any suggestions. I Am using
windows XP and jaws 11.0.

[JAWS-Users] 2 sound card observations.

2009-10-23 Thread Jimmy Podsim
Hello all. I'm running Vista on an Acer laptop and jaws 11. Today, I
installed a SB live external. I directed all computer sounds to the sb live
and the jaws speech and sounds to the real tech that is built into the
laptop. Nothing spectacular there, however, I have noticed that since doing
this some of the lag in the computer, and a lot of jaws sluggishness has
gone away. I'm wondering if this is a normal result of having a dedicated
sound card for jaws, or if it's more something to do with the configuration
of my computer. What ever the end result is, it's awesome.

If you have two different hot keys assigned to start the same program, the
best way to delete the one you don't want is to run a little utility called
Hot Key Detective, which lists all the hot keys on your computer and allows
you to change or delete them as desired. You can download Hot Key Detective
from the JAWS Users programs page (it's item 30 under the Utilities
heading):
