Re: [JAWS-Users] problem with webpage in Firefox

2009-11-12 Thread CrisMunoz54
Yes, actually the same issue was present in version 10. It was one of those
things that I noticed, but figured oh well. I was using IE more anyway, but
as it seems as though FS fixed that terribly annoying issue with the delay
in speech with jaws when using Firefox, I find myself using Mozilla almost
exclusively now since I prefer it over IE.

If there were some other search link that could get me to be able to browse
the library collection, then it wouldn't be a big deal, but as this
particular site doesn’t' have that... Anyway, it's not the biggest obstacle
in the world, but it is somewhat a nuisance and I can't think of any real
setting within my jfw that's so out of wack to make this particular page
behave so differently with one browser to another I find it odd. I was
hoping that others would in fact be able to replicate my problem since I
can't think of what else might be the issue on my end.

Oh well...
Thanks again,
Cristobal

Did you have this problem in JAWS10? If you didn't, that could be a
sign of something not right in your JAWS11? As i said, for me the site
works fine in JAWS11; all fields are or appear visible. let's see if
others contribute comments or what they find.

Hi Russ,
What information are you asking about?
Yes, Windows 7 does have the safely remove hardware utility.
You can use it by clicking the icon in the system tray,
or by using the eject option in computer to disconnect devices.

I don't think any other programs were effected by the change.

If I didn't warn the original sender about that, I should have. You are
correct, Gerald, of course.
Once a character has been defined in that manner it stays silent in all
applications.
I suppose you could create the dictionary exception for the e-mail client
only. That might be a working alternative. In that case, ignore the
comment about activating the default dictionary. Open Outlook Express
Then go to Jaws using Jaws key plus J. Then activate the dictionary file
and define the > symbol as indicated in my earlier message.
Thanks again for the caviat Gerald.

Oh, also, regarding the rss thing you mentioned, I cant' say I've had

however find
that sometimes clicking the print link on a page in order for

fine.

Anyway, I guess that's besides the point of my original post.

Hello list,

I've been having difficulty with a certain webpage and its'

tech

support about it, but before I did, I thought I'd ask others on the

It's pretty straight forward. The web address is:

It's the url to my local public library. When I visit it in IE8,
there's a
combo box and edit field where one can exicute a search either by

author. However, when viewing the same page in Firefox, the combo
box

and
edit field aren't present at all. I've fiddled around with my
various
Firefox add ons to make sure none of them were blocking anything
that

might
impeed the site from displaying properly, but the form fields still
don't
appear.

I'm using JFW 11 and Firefox 3.55 and IE8.

Any input would be appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] problem with webpage in firefox

2009-11-12 Thread Gerald Levy

I just visited this web page using JAWS 9 and Firefox 3.5.5, and had no
difficulty accessing the library catalog search edit field or combo box.
Maybe the problem you are experiencing is caused by JAWS 11, which seems to
be full of bugs.

Cris,

have you disabled AutoForms Mode? Doing that caused me not to be able
to subscribe to RSS feeds, and a few other things - in Firefox. if you
have done that, therefore, re-enable forms Mode in Firefox. With Forms
Mode enabled [in firefox[, I am able to do these things; and I have no

is a bug in JAWS, so I'm told, by a well-known Firefox accessibility

Hi rick,
I looked in there did not find it.
It was a script ready to insert that would let you alter what jaws says when
it starts, instead of just saying 'jaws is ready'. Like for instance I had
mine say, 'hey good looking, we are ready to rumble' and I had jaws tell me
the time also lol

Hi Mich,
Here's how to get rid of the search coming up when you enter a folder.
On the view menu, press enter on the "explorer bar" submenu and uncheck
Search by pressing enter on it.
Then go into the tools menu, folder options, control plus tab to the view
page, find and spacebar on the "apply to all folders" button and tab to
and

then press enter.

Hi all. I am trying to get jaws to say the file extensions in my
folders like mp3 etc. I was messing about in the folder options and
seem to have screwed something up. Now when ever I enter on a folder
name jaws says search result and there is a eddit field and jaws wants
me to type something in. Be for I started messing about with this it
would start playing the media in a media player that was not winamp. I
just want to have it go back to where it was be for where I hit enter
on a folder and jaws brings m e in to the folder with all the things
in this folder. I was looking under control panel and folder options.
Many Thanks for any one who can help me fix this. from Mich Verrier.

Hi Mich,
Here's how to get rid of the search coming up when you enter a folder.
On the view menu, press enter on the "explorer bar" submenu and uncheck
Search by pressing enter on it.
Then go into the tools menu, folder options, control plus tab to the view
page, find and spacebar on the "apply to all folders" button and tab to and
then press enter.

Charlene,

Your scroll lock might be stuck or simply on. This will cause that to
happen. Try one of the following:

1 simply press the scroll lock key and then try it again.

2. Failing that, press insert-3 (the 3 on the numbers row) followed by
the

scroll lock key. That should fix it.

Well then, don't do step 2 and do the others. This means that the

Your first technique for suppressing the announcement of the > symbol
is not a good idea, because it will be suppressed in all applications,
not just email. So, for example, if you happen to encounter a Word
document that contains the > symbol, JAWS will treat it as a space and
not announce it, which is probably not what you want. The JAWS
Dictionary Manager is global, so applying changes to the > symbol will
affect all applications.

A couple of ways, Steve. You can define the > symbol in your
dictionary like this.

1. Press Insert D to open the dictionary:
2. Press Control Shift D to open the default dictionary.
3. Tab to the Add button and press Enter.
4. Type the > character in that space.
5. Tab to the next field and press the space bar.
You won't hear another > when you read e-mails that have been
extended.
That's why they're there by the way. To tell you that you are
reading a part of the e-mail which has been forwarded.

The second method is to use something like ECleaner to remove the >
symbols.
But you'll need to load that program first. It works quite well and
it's simple to use.

I think it's on David's programs page.

Hi all. I am trying to get jaws to say the file extensions in my folders
like mp3 etc. I was messing about in the folder options and seem to have
screwed something up. Now when ever I enter on a folder name jaws says
search result and there is a eddit field and jaws wants me to type
something

in. Be for I started messing about with this it would start playing the
media in a media player that was not winamp. I just want to have it go
back

to where it was be for where I hit enter on a folder and jaws brings m
e in to the folder with all the things in this folder. I was looking under
control panel and folder options. Many Thanks for any one who can help me
fix this. from Mich Verrier.

Your first technique for suppressing the announcement of the > symbol is not
a good idea, because it will be suppressed in all applications, not just
email. So, for example, if you happen to encounter a Word document that
contains the > symbol, JAWS will treat it as a space and not announce it,
which is probably not what you want. The JAWS Dictionary Manager is global,
so applying changes to the > symbol will affect all applications.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007 and Contacts

2009-11-12 Thread Donald Marang
I got a tip how to make the Vista Contacts more accessible, perhaps it will
help in Windows 7 as well. Go to your User folder in Windows Explorer, and
select the Contacts folder. Open the Properties and go to the Customize
page. Change the template combo box from "Contacts" to "All Items", and hit
Enter.

Strange. Either the address book is empty or JAWS is just not reading
anything.

Chris-

If you press control-shift-b the address book will come up in a list view.
Simply press delete on any entry you want to trash. I don't use the
contacts for this purpose, but perhaps you could define a view to serve
your

purposes.

Hello all,
I want to get rid of some addresses in my contacts. Using Outlook 2007 and
JAWS 11, I press ctrl+3 to open contacts and all JAWS says is card list
view

and nothing else. Does anyone know how to make this view accessible?
Please advise.
Thanks. Take care.

Hi.

You can change the setting for autoupdate in the controlpanel, so you're
getting prompted when there is awailable updates to install, and you can
finish your work, and let the update process happen when it is best for you.

Good evening everyone.

This morning just after I turned on my computer while reading email
mesages, my computer without any worning at all, just shut down. After it
restarted it selph, there was a message that microsoft had installed a
windows security update. the same thing happened on my girlfriends computer
at the same time, which was around 10 o'clock this morning. My question is,
What if she was in the middle of a document using word 2003, she would have
lost everything that she had typed. Is there any setting in word 2003, that
I can set too automatically set to save documents without the possibility
of loosing a file? If there is, where should I go under tools options to do
this, and how often should I set it too backup files.

[JAWS-Users] jaws script tutorial for jaws log on

2009-11-12 Thread ChB
Hi list,
can someone provide me with the modifying scripts for the jaws log on thing,
where you can modify how jaws greets you.
It was posted here some weeks ago but I have misplaced it somewhere when I
set up my new OE. I have it saved somewhere, just can't seem to find it.
Off list mail maybe since this has been already posted here. Thanks in
advance.
