Re: [JAWS-Users] Firefox
Try upgrading to firefox 3.6, apparently it works better with windows 7. In firefox, go to help, then check for updates. After pressing enter, press enter again on get new version, then restart firefox when prompted and answer the UAC prompt appropriately. HTH. Often when I open a new page, JAWS seems not to see the links. If I locate them with the JAWS cursor, then rout Jaws to PC, I can sometimes click on a link and it will open; sometimes, though, JAWS just hops to a different link. Does Firefox need special settings in order to work correctly. It was my impression that it should work better than I.E.8, but with this computer it most certainly doesn't. The same is true for the third party firewall I discovered yesterday. I will tell you about this on the JAWS list soon. It's free and is accessible. JAWS Tandem Keystrokes * INSERT+ALT+T - ends session and can be issued from controller or target systems. * Note: You can also use this keystroke to start JAWS Tandem on a target system. * INSERT+ALT+TAB - toggles between target system's desktop and controller system's desktop. Only available on controller system; cannot be used by target system. * INSERT+CTRL+SHIFT+V - toggles video on or off. Video is off by default. When video is on, it lets sighted users watch JAWS Tandem activity. Only available on controller system; cannot be used by target system. Remote Clipboard Use the CTRL+C keystroke to copy text with formatting from the target system, and then use CTRL+V to paste text into a file on the controller system. This is ideal for support personnel who want to copy specific text from a log file on the target system. Note: Remote Clipboard will not transfer files. Disconnecting a Session Press INSERT+ALT+T to terminate a session at any time from either the controller system or the target system. Each system regains control of its own desktop. Tandem Direct Session A Tandem Direct session is used for enterprise networks in a business when two JAWS users are connected to the same network. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws does not says unread message
You did not say which version of JAWS you were using. My guess is that you are using version 10 based on this problem. Freedom Scientific has done a miserable job of supporting any Windows 7 mail cclient other than Outlook! Considering that they have supported Outlook Express and Windows Mail in the past, it is unbelievable that they have little interest in supporting Microsoft's successor, Windows Live Mail. I have been told that another JAWS upddate will be coming out soon that improves the useability of Windows Live Mail. I hope they get it right this time! Many Windows 7 users have switched to Thunderbird 3 and wrote their own scripts in the community since Freedom Scientific refuses to listen to the needs of their users. To get to your problem. I had found that JAWS 11 will announce unread and attachment status in Windows Live Mail. However, it currently is very problematic to read or compose mail using JAWS 11. I have found that Windows Live Mail works reasonably well with JAWS 10! I know this makes no sense, but ask Freedom Scientific how that could happen. The most annoying flaw in JAWS 10 for me was that the graphics for unread and attachment status were not defined in a JAWS .JGF file! I ended up labeling these graphics myself and it now works fine.Try thee following steps to see if this helps. If Freedom Scientific does notget it right with the next upgrade, perhaps a migration to Thunderbird is in order. 1. First make sure that within the Windows Live Mail application that it is configured to read labeled graphics. Without Configuration Manager set this way, the message status will never get read. 2. Temporarily set the verbosity to read all graphics by pressing Insert + V, then press G until you hear Graphics. Press Space until it announces all, then hit Enter. . 3. Move to an unread message, then route the JAWS Cursor to the PC Cursor and switch to the JAWS Cursor by pressing Insert + NumPad minus (-) followed by the NumPad minus (-). 4. Move on top of the unnamed graphic to the left of the message by pressing Control + Left arrow. 5. Press Insert + G to label the graphic. Type in unread without the quotes, and hit Enter. 6. Press the NumPad plus (+) to make certain that the PC Cursor is enabled. 7. Re: [JAWS-Users] 7?Turing off, windows
Hi, David, If you press the windows key, you are landed in a search box. Press either the left or right arrows to go to the shut down split button. Since this is a split button, you can use the up and down arrows to navigate the list of choices: shut down, sleep, hibernate, switch user, and lock. Re: [JAWS-Users] question about Sapi 5
Hi, You can change the speed and volume of SAPI voices in the control panel. The specific title of the option differs depending on the version of Windows. In Windows XP, for example, there is a category in the control panel called speech. In Windows 7, you can look for something in the control panel called text to speech, or you can simply type speech in the start menu's search box. (That last also probably works with Vista.) As for extra SAPI voices: Microsoft XP comes with horrible Microsoft Sam, and Windows 7 and Vista come with Microsoft Anna, which isn't half bad. On the jaws-users.com web site, you can find a package containing the Microsoft Mike and Mary voices which will work on Windows. Later versions of JAWS should also come shipped with versions of the ScanSoft SAPI voices called either Realspeak Solo or Realspeak Solo Direct. I'm not sure which version of JAWS started shipping these voices. I do know that my version of JAWS 9 shipped with the Solo voices, and version 10 started shipping with the Solo Direct voices. (The direct voices are thought to be more responsive.) Also, if you received the JAWS 11 DVD install disk, you will be presented with three buttons when you insert it: one will allow you to install JAWS, another will allow you to install Magic, and the third will allow you to install the Realspeak Solo direct voice packages for English and Spanish. hth, Erin -- From: Wayne Scott waynedsc...@cableone.net Sent: Sunday, January 24, 2010 6:12 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] question about Sapi 5 My wife and i both noticed that Sapi 5 is much quite4r than Eloquence software.
