Jewel and Russ,

I tried the method you describedfor moving within a MP3 file but nothing
happened when I press control plus K.

I use JAWS 10 with Windows Media Player.

Is there perhaps something that I missed?

Jewel,
I had to tell you that I tried this and it works perfectly.
1. I paused the MP3
2. I pressed control K and tabbed to the left-right slider. I up/down
arrowed
3. I pressed control P to start the Mp3 playing again
4. To my surprise, during the playing, I could up/down arrow to find where I
had left off so easily. If I moved up in the count, the voice started
talking at this point.

Jewel, great way. Thanks again!

Rus! I don't know if you have had a definitive reply to your question, but
I have one idea that
will work.
Pause the audio and then press k for the seek to feature. You will be
told how much time has
elapsed. If you want to go back or forward, tab to the hour, minute and
seconds fields: delete the
elapsed time, and type in the one you want.
For instance: say the elapsed time is 1 hour 31 minutes 15 seconds, and you
want to relisten to a
segment that you estimate may have been five minutes ago: delete the 31
minutes and replace it with
26, and then tab down to seek to and restart the audio file.
There may be other ways of doing it, but I can guarantee that the one I have
outlined will work.

Hi Everyone,

I was listening to a downloaded training MP3 file. I wanted to move ahead
and at times repeat by moving back.

I found that control, P paused the playing of the MP3. I have not found how
to fast forward or replay a segment.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

For future reference you can always bring up the system tray, then enter on
your computer is protected, or similar icon, then arrow down the combo box

Turn it off and no longer have it running, probably uninstall it.

Your other option is you can disable active real-time protection. You can
do that by opening MSSE, go to the Settings button, arrow down to the active
protection and uncheck the checkbox that enables real-time notification.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Excel problems with Jaws

2010-04-08 Thread Shari

Thank you, Brian,

At work I use Excel 2003 and Jaws 10. I didn't really think of copying the
range of cells and pasting into Word. I did try to select the range of cells
to print, since I couldn't get Jaws to read some of the cells. I don't know
why, but the cells just couldn't be selected. For the cells I couldn't
access through normal navigation, I tried to use the go to function, trying
both F5 and control g, but again had no luck. On some of the spreadsheets,
the read all data in visible cells worked; in others it didn't.

I used Excel extensively today, with no problems, working mostly on
spreadsheets that a coworker and I developed. So, the good news is that the
problems seem to be related to a limited number of specific spreadsheets
developed by a federal government department which I won't have to tackle
again for 3 months.

Hi Shari,

I don't know what version of Excel or JAWS you are using but I thought I
would mention a couple things for your consideration.

If you move focus to a cell or merged cells you can press function key 2
to
go into edit mode. Parts of cells that don't show on the screen because
of

problems like row height and column widths can still be read in edit mode.
You can use regular document type navigational commands when in edit mode.

I know that some people have had trouble with the auto row height feature
in
Excel 2007. If a cell's wrapping function is turned on then the contents
of

the cell should wrap according to column width and be shown on the screen.
However, I know there are some people having trouble with the wrapping
function and the auto setting of row height. I haven't had the problem
but

it seems that many people have had to increase row height to read all the
contents of a cell even when wrapping and auto row height are set. If you
check a row's height in Excel 2007 I believe the default setting is 15
characters. Again, auto row height should cause the cell to expand as
needed and the wrapping function should cause the text to be read
correctly
on the screen, but sometimes a person needs to manually increase row
height

considerably. However, going into edit mode would allow you to read the
full content of the cell even though it is not showing on the screen.

Another thing you might consider is copying the range of cells and pasting
them into a Word document. Word will create a table that you can use your
arrow keys in between lines in a cell. After pasting into Word the ribbon
in Word 2007 will have choices for such things as appending to a table.
However, I think that just pasting will create a table that you might be
able to navigate in better.

I hope you get it working for you.

Take care.

and the command worked like a charm. My excitement was short lived because
when I opened the next file, the command wouldn't read even the cells I
could access through normal navigation. The insert shift c or r commands
read only info in a single cell. The good news is at this point, I've just
about finished the work with this batch of spreadsheets, and my other

Jaws

Sometimes, you need to refresh the screen also. In
complex
spreadsheets,
particularly if you are editing a lot, the screen gets
cluttered and you
need to hit Ins plus Esc which redraws the screen and
often clears up
these
kinds of problems.

A partial solution is to use goto for selecting text.
Either f5 or
control-g gives you the go to dialog box. Then enter
what you want
to select. For example if you want to select rows 1
through ten,
you would type f5, then 1:10. You can select contiguous
cells,
joining them with colon as above, or non-contiguous
cells, joining
them with comma.

I would have thought that unloading and reloading JAWS
would
straighten things out when you're trying to read,
though. Excel is
hard for JAWS, being so densely formatted, but usually
unload/reload
unscrambles it.

Good luck!

Sometimes, you need to refresh the screen also. In

complex

spreadsheets,
particularly if you are editing a lot, the screen gets

cluttered and you

need to hit Ins plus Esc which redraws the screen and

often clears up

these
kinds of problems.

A partial solution is to use goto for selecting text.

Either f5 or

control-g gives you the go to dialog box. Then enter

what you want

to select. For example if you want to select rows 1

through ten,

you would type f5, then 1:10. You can select contiguous

cells,

joining them with colon as above, or non-contiguous

cells, joining

them with comma.

I would have thought that unloading and reloading JAWS

would

straighten things out when you're trying to read,

though. Excel is

hard for JAWS, being so densely formatted, but usually

unload/reload

unscrambles it.

Good luck!

[JAWS-Users] nod 32 version 4.0

2010-04-08 Thread Lenny McHugh
Is anyone using nod32 anti-virus protection software?
I recently renewed my license. I was using version 2.7 which I had no
problems with jaws. Before I upgraded to version 4 I spoke to a support
person and was told that version 4 should work ok with jaws.
It is not as friendly. I did a scan and there was a downloaded zip file that
had something in it. I could not read what file or how to delete it. My wife
had to take care of it for me.
Also I would like to get into some of the set up options and again I am
having a problem.

Now remember some of these controls are specific to windows media player
v11 and not v10. for example, f9 and f10 moves volume up/down in v10. me!
I hate v11. (smile)
