[JAWS-Users] Question about windows live mail and how jaws reads it.
,Hi, I am using windows live mail on windows 7 pro and using jaws 11 standard in demo mode. I have my emails going into several folders. When I tab into a folder jaws will read the first email in the following way. Name of person, date and time received, subject, size and finally that it was sent to my email address and what folder it is in. I really don't want it to read all of that info. Also, jaws will not tell me how many emails are in each folder and after I read or delete one jaws says not selected, so I have to select each email in turn. Does anyone know if there is a way ot change this? I have done research online and cant find anything. Any help is greatly apprectiated, thank you in advance. Re: [JAWS-Users] note book and jaws
John, If memory serves there was a utility on the JFW programs page called Decrapifying your Dell. I used it on my Inspiron running XP-pro and it did a great job of getting rid of that Dell proprietary software. I don't know if it is still around or it works with later versions of windows. The only thing that will take some getting used to is the missing number pad on your right. Because that is missing, you'll have to get used to a whole new set of hotkeys. but after a while, they become second nature. Another thing I'd like to mention is that the virtual mouse which is part of almost every notebook I have ever seen, is usually set with the sensitivity very high. So, if you touch it accidentally, while you're trying to learn the keyboard, your focus goes off into the fourth dimension somewhere. The sensitivity can be reset or the mouse can be turned off completely within the Control Panel. I dislike double tapping that Caps lock key to get the system to recognize a shifted word but other than that, I like mine very well. One thing though, and I know I'll probably hear about this from someone, I don't like the proprietary software that Dell loads onto their laptop and notebook computers. That, at times, can really give you some grief. All in all Dell makes good equipment but I wish there was a way to get it barefoot. Good luck and you can't go wrong with HP. that has been my experience. There are some on this list like Andy who don't like HP much but they have always backed me up better than any other computer manufacturer I have worked with. Andy is right though. they did make some serious losers a while ago. But their new equipment is really excellent and the prices are quite reasonable. Re: [JAWS-Users] How do I go back to internet explorer 6?
I do not recommend going back to InternetExplorer 6 just because it is such a security nightmare! What version of Windows are you using? If you are running Windows 7, you are stuck with IE 8. If you are running XP or Vista, there should be a Internet Explorer 8 in the Add/Remove Control Panel in XP or the Program and Features Control Panel in Vista. Uninstalling IE 8 should take you back to whatever version you were using just before upgrrading to IE 8. If it takes you back to IE 6, please do yourself a favor and upgrade to IE 7. [JAWS-Users] Real Speak voices question
OK, before anyone asks, let me throw this ball out of the way first. Yes, I am aware of the solo direct voices. I know also how to install 'em, but that isn't the point, in this case. I am trying to install my sapi 5 version of the Ral Speak voices. I not only wanna be able to use these with jfw, but I got some other programs like Speak-on, as well as K1000, Kitchen's Inc games, etc. which are self voicing that I wanna use them with. I can't do that with the solo direct voices as they use their own propriatary module/driver/dll libraries. Bottom line, it won't work. Anyway, so here is my question to you pc geeks out there like myself. I just got an hp laptop last Wednesday. It's running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Edition. So my question is, when I ran the installer for the real speak voices, it said they'd not run on a 64 bit OS. So, having said that, this leads me to actually two questions. The first question which probably is the obvious is: is there a way to get around this, so that I can install the sapi version, and if not, can I get a 64 bit version from fs of the old sapi formatted installer. My second question is, maybe I'm completely all wet here, but I was under the impression that anything 32 bit architect would run on a 64 bit OS. Now, granted, I know for a fact! you can't run a 64 bit OS on a 32 bit only capable motherboard, nor, can you run x64 programs on a 32 bit OS. That's obvious. But I thought the annalogy worked like this: Say you have a 4 lane highway. OK, you may wind up only driving down 2! of those lanes, but, the point is, you can! do it. You're not taking over the whole highway, but, you're still able to drive down it. I hear 64 bit worked much the same way. You can! run 64 bit apps, or! 32 bit apps on 64 bit architect, but, on the other hand, don't try running 64 bit on a 32 bit only capable OS/hardware system. am I not understanding this whole 32/64 bit thing correctly? Actually, I don't even get the difference, really per sey. I know better graffics, as if that really matters to me, and faster speed, supposedly, but I've honestly not seen much speed difference between my old 32 bit xp machine and this 64 bit win7 machine. Hmm, Chris ponders. Anyway, let me know you all's suggestions and maybe someone also can fill me in on the differences in 64 vs. 32 bit, and what can run where. Thank you kindly. Chris. Re: [JAWS-Users] Real Speak voices question
Hi I agree with you, just wondering if you had had any luck with reading HP's software, to me it us just not accessible with jaws. Like you I have just purchased an HP laptop with same spec as yu mention. There are hot keys for function key which I am unable to find out, I know that funtion key f3 opens internet explorer but I am unable to read anything on the hp shortcuts page to find out what they are, have you had any luck in this respect? Another problem I have is a reminder window popping up, when I had a pair of eyes hear it was reminding me to create a set of recovery discs which I did but I dont have a pair of eyes now and the reminder window has started to pop up again, dont know if it is the same reminder and that I have to check the box to not show this message again or if there something that I should be doing. Latest jaws will not touch this reminder window, I cannot virtualise the window or use the jaws cursor anything. any ideas if this window can be read at all? I would not buy anything else other Hp because I have used them in the past and had no trouble at all, guess I have been lucky but their software is not accessible, but I have most of it disabled anyway. So basically my question is any ideas if it is possible to read these pop up windows which I am assuming ar HP based and are not accessible with jaws? and does anyone out there have a list of the function key shortcuts with HP? Chris. Hi so long as you have at least 2GB of RAM and a 2GHZ processor XP Mode should run fine without problems. In the past hardware virtualization must be supported and if so enabled in the computer's BIOS. But an update to Virtual PC made this optional now and not manditory. Re: [JAWS-Users] Real Speak voices question
Well, I can tell you a few things: if you have a num pad fn+num pad plus and minus are your volume up and down, fn+numpad star, which basically is the same key used for a right mouse button in jfw, is your mute toggle on and off fn+F7 and fn+F8 are your screen brightness Those're the only ones at this point that I know of. I'll have to try your fn+F3. I didn't know about that but if that works, that would be awesome! Re: [JAWS-Users] Real Speak voices question
Moving to 64 bit does not necessarily increase the performance of the computer over 32 bit. Even on tasks where manipulating large chunks of data like video editing and transcoding will only be faster if the software is designed to take advantage of the 64 bit architecture and multiple cores / hyper threading. Frankly, multiple cores and hyper threading, which is used in the new I5 or I7 processors, currently provide a bigger performance boost. Keep in mind, that most applications and people work with characters, which do not require 64 bits of information. A 64 bit Operating System is absolutely necessary to use more than 4 GB of RAM memory. This is the prime reason to go to 64 bit Windows 7 right now. I am currently not using a 64 bit edition of Windows 7, so I can not yet speak from experience. Generally, you are right about being able to run most 32 bit applications on a 64 bit edition of Windows 7. I understand there are still some applications that have compatibility issues. Mostly these are older applications. I heard that for some bizarre reason, the Adobe Flash Player plug-inn for Internet Explorer is not available that runs in the 64 bit edition of Internet Explorer, so you must use the 32 bit edition of Internet Explorer to view pages with Flash! It seems that on a 64 bit edition of Windows 7, there are 2 different editions of Internet Explorer. I do not understand how the typical user is supposed to know which to use with which sites. Someone let me know if this is no longer the case. It would be shocking if Adobe could not deliver a 64 bit version ofFlash by now! One big exception to the highway analogy is any type of software or hardware drivers that are required to communicate with the hardware. Even though Microsoft and Intel heavily push for switching to 64 bit systems, not all hardware manufacturer's are as excited and have not provided the necessary drivers. I imagine the Real Speak voices or at least their interface to SAPI5 would need to have a 64 bit specific version. I guess looking back to the highway analogy it is more like driving an extra wide tractor trailer down a 4 lane busy road with commercial entrances to McDonalds... directly feeding onto the road. To get to higher speeds it would take major work and build service roads / ramps to bring it up to Interstate standards. Microsoft is attempting to improve their architecture, but without dropping support for legacy (older software), this is almost impossible. Re: [JAWS-Users] Question about windows live mail and how jaws reads it.
Hello Erin; first, go to the view menu, alt+v, and down or up arrow, making sure that, status bar is checked. Next, again, go to the view menu, alt+v, now, press the letter C=columns, press enter. here, you can uncheck the columns you don't want to see. - Original Message - From: Erin erinandspen...@yahoo.com To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Monday, July 19, 2010 2:46 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Question about windows live mail and how jawsreadsit. [JAWS-Users] Detect SAPI4 Broken?
I just tried, while running a sapi5 profile, as I remember jfw used to crash if you used eloquence when hitting this button, but, even knowing I have sapi4 voices installed, jfw 11 still isn't poulating the list telling me there are any. Yes, they are properly installed as some programs that use them to self voice work fine, and even w e sees them and works fine with them. I'd really like to get them working in jfw, but it seems the sapi4 detect is broken. Am I missing something here? I installed the microsoft text to speech that comes with Altair for windows, and I also installed i b m viavoice from compuconference. Again all these synths are working fine in w e, but not in jfw. I don't get it. What did I do wrong, if anything? Chris. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
