Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft question
Hi Rich, I use XP Pro & Jaws 10 at work. The alignment commands don't speak when executed, but if I do a jaws key f, jaws will say which alignment setting is invoked. Jaws used to speak the alignment after the command. I must have changed a setting somewhere that affected that speech. Maybe the Jaws key f will reveal that the alignment commands still work for you. Hi List, I haven't followed this thread closely, but you couldn't use the sapi 5 voices, which include the Neospeech Paul and Kate, with versions of Jaws below version 7, as the earlier versions only accommodates sapi 4 voices. Re: [JAWS-Users] Texting from PC?
The following came to me from another list, hope this answers some questions. Chris Munoz wrote in an interesting post on Blindtech this week. He told us how to send text messages via email. If you don't have a text message plan, you can still send text messages and receive replies in your email. You just need the recipients phone number and their cell provider. If you're friends number is 5552223113, and they are with tmobile, send an email to: 5552223...@tmomail.net You can add a subject and put the message in the body of the email form. They receive the text message and, when they reply, it comes to your inbox. Here are the email suffixes yo! u add to phone numbers for each provider: Verizon Wireless: (cell#)@vtext.com, ATT: (cell#)@mobile.att.net, Cingular: (cell#)@mycingular.com, Nextel: (cell#)@messaging.nextel.com, T-Mobile: (cell#)@tmomail.net, Sprint: (cell#)@messaging.sprintpcs.com, Tracfone: (cell#)@cingularme.com, and if unknown carrier: (cell#)@teleflip.com I'm going to use this method when I'm working and don't have time to muss about with my phone. It's an easy way to send text messages and you get the response in your email which is nice! -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Ann Byrne Sent: Sunday, July 25, 2010 8:36 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Texting from PC? Hi, After you press ctrl-e, say, pressing ctrl-l will put you into left-aligned; ctrl_r will put you into right-alligned; ctrl-j will justify the text. If you haven't typed the text you want centered yet, press CTRL+E to turn centering on, type the text, then press CTRL+E to turn centering off. don't forget to press ENTER twice to put a blank line between the heading and the first line of the next block of text. If you have already typed some text and you then decide that you want the text to be centered, place the cursor in the space immediately following the last character, then select back to the first character of the text you want centered, then press CTRL+E. [JAWS-Users] Yahoo Groups Page Won't Load Properly With Firefox
I'm not sure whether this probelm is JAWS related or not, but here goes. When I attempt to access www.groups.yahoo.com using Firefox 3.6.8 with JAWS 9, Jaws announces the number of headings, links etc. as the page is loading, but once the page has completely loaded, all the objects on it seem to vanish and the only thing JAWS recognizes is the title; all the headings, links buttons and edit fields are gone. Then when I attempt to return to my Google home page, it, too, is devoid of any headings, links or edit fields. The only way to restore my home page to normal is to close Firefox and restart it. But when I try to access the Yahoo page again, the same thing happens: the page loads but all of its objects seem to disappear. I do not encounter this problem with IE 8, nor with any other web sites. This problem seems to be unique to Yahoo.com. Does anyone have a clue why this page won't load properly with Firefox? Any feedback appreciated. Gerald For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

No idea. But what if you make Paul a voice for all cursors and not asign individual voices? Not sure if this could be the problem, but nothing hurts to try. Have you attempted to refresh the page buffers within JAWS by pressing Insert + Escape? Perhaps the Yahoo page updates later and JAWS did not notice. Re: [JAWS-Users] Yahoo Groups Page Won't Load Properly With Firefox
I tried everything I could think of to get the page to load: Insert-Escape, F5, Alt-right arrow, Shift-Enter, but nothing works. It's really strange. JAWS announces the number of headings frames and links, but when the progress bar announcements finally stop at 100%, there is nothing in the window. It is as if all the objects on the web page have been stripped away leaving a blank page. I have only encountered this problem with Yahoo and no other sites I have visited. I tried this also, but I still can't get the page to load properly. But why would you want to? I am using IE 8 on two PC's, and am having no problems. Just make sure that you get the vanilla upgrade version of IE 8, and not the ones that have been optimized for things like Google or MSN because they will give you a bunch of extra toolbars that can impair screen readers, even though most of them can be hidden. Hi Negoslav; I can't keep Paul going at all now. I was able to press insert, control, + S, then press enter on what I know is the SAPI5 synthesizer, and Paul would work until I unloaded Jaws6. Now, I can't keep him going at all. When I load Jaws, all he will say is " Jaws for windows is ready ." This is even after I choose the SAPI5 synthesizer. I have no idea how to keep Paul going. Well, I do have experience. I told you exactly what to do. Go to your program files\freedom scientific\jaws\6.0 and look for jfw.ini. Open it with notepad, and look under the synths section. I don't know how to make my instructions any more "experienced" or detailed. [JAWS-Users] disabling microsoft active sync and jaws not startign automatically
Hello list, I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but I've noticed that when I uncheck Microsoft ActiveSync from launching upon start up via msconfig, the start Jaws automatically check box option becomes unchecked. I had noticed that when I disabled ActiveSync, and the next time I'd restart my computer be it a restart or the following day, Jaws wasn't coming up. This took some time for me to figure out, but I finally isolated it to specifically ActiveSync. Is this a bug that anyone else has delt with or can someone perhaps try to recreate it on their end? It's not terribly disruptive or anything, but I would like to know if it's an issue particular to my machine or a general JFWissue. I'm using the latest Jaws 11 release, xp pro and the latest ActiveSync. Thanks... For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Don, we were talking about this very thing a while back. 1. You need at least Windows 7 professional to use XPMode. [JAWS-Users] Kate & Paul voices new twist
Hi Chris, Flor, Negoslav, & TJ; After some playing around I finally got Paul to work as the default voice. I first had to make Paul the default voice in Speech Properties in the control panel. Then I made SAPI5 the default synthesizer in the configuration manager, invoked the keystroke of Jaws key, control, + S keystroke to select the SAPI5 synthesizer, and finally into Jaws options and made Paul the default voice in PC cursor, Jaws cursor, Keyboard, & Tudor/ messages in the individual voices option. I didn't want to mess around with the " synth.ini " file just because I don't have a clue as to what to do in there. I want to truly thank all of you for all of your help. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] gotomeeting
It works well, once you have opened the session. My understanding is that opening the session takes sighted help. I'll bet someone could write a JAWS script to click what needs clicking. Hi, I have not checked this out as I was not interested at the time. They did have a 30 day trial for listeners of security now. Try www.twit.tv there may be something there about it. Max.. [JAWS-Users] making Realspeak the default voice
How do I make Real speak the default voice in Jaws 11? I sometimes use Eloquence, but most of the time I use Real speak. How do I keep the default as Real speak? How do I do this from the configuration Manager? I am using Windows Vista and Jaws 11 latest version. Wayne Scott "A merry heart does good like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones."
