now, you need to have,
start jaws at the log in screen checked,
start jaws after log in screen for all users checked,
start jaws after log in for this user, make sure that always is
highlighted,
you should hear,
start jaws after log in for this user, always, 1of3.

Hi All, Thanks for all your suggestions. Well, I tried power options and FS
also checked to see that they were set to never. I'm not sure this is a
JAWS issue, though, but when I leave the computer for awhile, it just stays
where it is. Yesterday, A friend came to see if she could help. When she
tried to use the mouse, it, too, didn't work. We had to turn it off in order
for her to use the mouse. Today, I did what FS suggested, leave narrator
running to see if it was still there. It wasn't. Neither was NVDA. When this
happens the screen is dark, but my friend could see that the computer was
on. This is a brand new computer with Windows 7 and I don't have any idea
what I can do next. I'll give FS another try to see if anyone can come up
with a solution or a suggestion. I'm wondering if it's a Windows issue.
Again, thanks to all who responded.

Joe,
When you leave the computer, is your computer going to sleep? if that's
the case, when you come back to the computer, jaws wouldn't speak unless
you woke your computer up. Go into power management, and set your computer
the way you want, so that it doesn't go to sleek. For me, I set that to
never, so my computer doesn't go to sleep or shut down, until I tell it
too. Just a thought. Jim

Re: [JAWS-Users] Office 2010

2010-09-22 Thread Stephan, William S NWK
Deanne: Thanks for reminding of this. One of the reports I have to generate
pretty frequently requires me to gather data from several Excel spreadsheets.
And, the easiest way to do that for this particular report is to use the
append to clipboard feature in Excel, then dump the results of this
aggregation into another document. The append to clipboard feature has been
deliberately disabled in JAWS 11, and I have to run JAWS 10 to accomplish
what I need to. This is doable, but is a waste of my time. I know there are
some folks on the List from Freedom Scientific, and my hope is that in future
revisions of JAWS the append to clipboard feature will be functioning again.

I have been using office 2010 with JAWS 11 for about a month now and it is
doing fine so far. There are some little quirks, especially in Outlook, but
for the most part, I am able to access everything I need. The only thing I
haven't been able to figure out is how to read an html message in Outlook. I
open the message and it is almost impossible to tell where I am in the
message, or what link I am on. It doesn't read the labels well at all. As far
as Excel: I use it for very basic financial tracking, but haven't had any
problems with it yet.

Re: [JAWS-Users] AUTOMATICALLY START JAWS

2010-09-22 Thread Jo Luland
Hi All, Well, here I am again. Because I have JAWS talking, I tried to get
the update for JAWS12. When I went through the menu, I got an error message
indicating that the update couldn't be installed. There might be some
corrupted files in my downloaded version. I was directed to do a repair of
JAWS and try again. Since I have no dvd to do this with, I went to Freedom
Scientific website to complete the process. Now, when I reach the website,
only Freedom Scientific products for the Visually Impaired Windows Internet
Explorer is read. When I press ins+page down, it says
http//www.freedomscientific.com/fs internet protected mod on 105%. Can
anyone clarify the meaning of this? I feel like I'm on a merry-go-round with
this situation!! Please help before I throw this computer out the window!!!
Thanks.

Hello there;

1, go into, jaws options/basics,

2, tab and enter on, automatically start jaws

now, you need to have,
start jaws at the log in screen checked,
start jaws after log in screen for all users checked,
start jaws after log in for this user, make sure that always is
highlighted,
you should hear,
start jaws after log in for this user, always, 1of3.

now tab okay, press enter.

I use jaws in a very fast paced call center. All the software is web
based. However that don't mean it all speaks with jaws. We have about
6 different utils that do work out of the box and about the same scripted.

So yes, indeed have someone that does scripting check them out.
Also learn jaws very good, because one of its many off handed short
cut keys or mouse controls can get you out of trouble quick!

My kid's computer, which is now running Windows 7, had a simillar issue with
coming out of sleep. A week or so after upgrading from Vista to Windows 7,
Windows Update decided there was a better video driver available and
performed an automatic update. With the new generic driver, it would switch
to a screen resolution that the hardware did not support! I had to retreive
the best available video driver for that model on the Dell website and
install it. Additionally, I needed to hide that suggestion to update the
driver again in Windows Update.
Point is perhaps installing a better video driver will do the trick. Don

Hi All, Thanks for all your suggestions. Well, I tried power options and
FS also checked to see that they were set to never. I'm not sure this is
a JAWS issue, though, but when I leave the computer for awhile, it just
stays where it is. Yesterday, A friend came to see if she could help. When
she tried to use the mouse, it, too, didn't work. We had to turn it off in
order for her to use the mouse. Today, I did what FS suggested, leave
narrator running to see if it was still there. It wasn't. Neither was
NVDA. When this happens the screen is dark, but my friend could see that
the computer was on. This is a brand new computer with Windows 7 and I
don't have any idea what I can do next. I'll give FS another try to see if
anyone can come up with a solution or a suggestion. I'm wondering if it's
a Windows issue. Again, thanks to all who responded.

Joe,
When you leave the computer, is your computer going to sleep? if that's
the case, when you come back to the computer, jaws wouldn't speak unless
you woke your computer up. Go into power management, and set your
computer the way you want, so that it doesn't go to sleek. For me, I set
that to never, so my computer doesn't go to sleep or shut down, until I
tell it too. Just a thought. Jim

Hi Grant,
I do part of my work in a call center setting. Our teck guy did some basic
scripts for jaws to actully make it possible for me to do my job. The data
base is specialized for use in social service referral centers and it's very
difficult to deal with. My collegue was a life-saver. He basically was
taught scripting techniques from the guy who proceeded him, who had taught
himself too. I feel very lucky to have been given such good help..It helps
that Tulsa has a vendor of JAWS and their staff are very willing to
help.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Setting JFW to quietly open up a program

2010-09-22 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Prateek,

One way you can stop the application title and document name being announced
when you start a program is by adjusting the verbosity settings in
configuration manager. You can make the changes for a specific application
or to apply as default for all programs.

Use JAWS key with 6 to open a configuration manager for the application you
are working in, and use CTRL+Shift+D to load the default configuration
manager. With default.JCF open, use Alt with S to bring up the settings
menu, and then press V to open the verbosity dialog box. Use tab key to
move to the group of radio buttons from which to choose a verbosity level,
and choose by using up and down arrow keys between the beginner,
intermediate and advanced levels. With one of the radio buttons selected,
tab to the settings button for that level of verbosity and press spacebar.
You will be presented with a list of items. The top choice is for the
application start message. It should not be checked. If it is checked then
press spacebar to remove the checkmark. Press the letter D to move to the
document name choice and make sure it is not checked. If it is checked
then use spacebar to remove the checkmark. Tab to OK and press spacebar.
Tab to the group of radio buttons and make sure the selected button is for
the level you changed. Tab to OK and press spacebar. Use CTRL+S to save
changes and close the program with Alt+f4.

You can do the above steps for each level of verbosity if you want to so
that the program and document names are not announced when you open them.

You could write AutoStartEvents in individual program script files, but I
think this way should accomplish what you are trying to do. However, I am
not sure how the changes will affect pop up windows, screen savers, etc.

Take care.
