Re: [JAWS-Users] Drawing Lines Across Page
Blank Sorry, I didn't save the original message, but this subject hopefully will attract the right person. You didn't say, or I don't recall which version of Word you are using. There are I think four types of horizontal lines that you can draw across a page, these are known as horizontal rules. All of them are initiated by typing the appropriate symbol three times and then immediately pressing enter. A regular horizontal line is dash. A bold horizontal line is underscore (shift of the dash). A double-line is equals. A line of asterisks is with the asterisk key. Note: Depending on which version of Word you use, you may need to make sure the borders checkbox is checked in Word Options. In MsWord 2007, you will find the checkbox by going to Word Options, Proofing, Auto-Correct options, and Auto-correct as you Type. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. Re: [JAWS-Users] interesting issue with win7 jaws11 volume control
I may have described my problem wrong. I have one copy of jaws on the computer and for some reason, in the volume control, sndvol, it gives me three different volumes for jaws. Should it not only give me one? It does not give me more than one for other programs like media player or windows sounds? When I press the spacebar on the jaws setup button on the DVD I am presented with the welcome to the jaws setup package dialog box. I can press enter on next or enter on cancel here. I of course press next. After hearing please wait while your system is configured for Jaws I then get a message saying that another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this product can not continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product Please use add or remove on the control panel. A repair or modify or even continue the installation screen does not come up as an option. Maybe FS could consider placing repair or modify as an option in the utility section in a future release. -Original Message- From: jim Sent: Tuesday, June 21, 2011 11:43 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] re-uninstalling Jaws v12 Hi Lmorris, to repair Jaws from the dvd: just put your Jaws 12 dvd in your computer and close the tray, just act like you are installing it for the first time. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 12 Video/Control Backspace Problem, Sony VAIO Laptop
Hi guys, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel HD Graphics driver yesterday and that did not fix the problem. I uninstalled the NVIDIA driver yesterday but was not able to find the necessary driver on Sony's website to reinstall it. One of the people I talked to at FS yesterday suggested that the problem might be because of the integrated graphics--JAWS would not know what version to "lock on" to. Update...as I typed this and used control backspace, I did get some speech feedback, but it did not always accurately reflect the word I was deleting. I had uninstalled IE 9 and am now using IE 8. In AOL Instant Messenger, though, I still get no audible feedback when pressing control backspace. F or portable recording, I use an Olympus DM-4, which records and saves files in .WAV, .mp3 and .wma formats, at a variety of bit rates. (The higher the bit rate, generally speaking, the higher the fidelity of the recording but the more storage space required. For microphones I either use the built-in mics (very good) on the Olympus, or a pair of electret condenser microphones from Core Sound, or a lavalier microphone from RadioShack and/or Sony. It depends on the kind of recording you want to do; for voice, podcasts and audio blogs for instance, the built-in microphones might be enough. For concerts etc. I use the binaural condenser microphone pair. I also have a Tascam DR7. Bigger, bulkier but with more dedicated buttons. Uses common AA batteries (the Olympus uses a proprietary battery pack). The Tascam doesn't record to . all formats, however. I hope this helps. Re: [JAWS-Users] Firefox 5.0 released
I'm hoping that whatever issue I'm having has resolved itself with this latest version, so I think I'll take the plunge. Basically, the issue is this: I can't specify a directory to save files in. If I try, Firefox crashes. I've tried both with Jaws 12 and NVDA, and versions 3.6 and 4 of Firefox. Finally, I had to settle on it saving files to the default directory, which bypasses the dialog box. I have no idea what this could be, but it's frustrating to say the least. I never had issues like this on my XP machine. It's only since purchasing a machine running Vista that I've encountered this. So, I guess I'll go download Firefox 5 now and see what happens. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 12 Video/Control Backspace Problem, Sony VAIO Laptop
Yes. Its a video intercept issue. For some odd reason Video Intercept isn't working which means JFW won't be able to read things properly. Very odd though because like I said I have Intel ® HD and it doesn't give me any problems. Maybe try calling Intel? FS couldn't fix anything? Or maybe you have more then one graphics card and the manager can't read which one is the right one? On Jun 21, 2011, at 2:28 PM, Michael Hansen wrote: > Hi George, > > I'm honestly not sure. I am experiencing the same problem. I discovered the root cause when I attempted to run the Video Intercept setup program and it failed. It turns out that I need to reload all the video drivers before I can reinstall the video intercept. The problem is maddening. Re: [JAWS-Users] an audio tutorial
Robin, I can't speak for David, but here's what I am using. Re: [JAWS-Users] an audio tutorial
I just use a headset microphone, the brand varies depending on what is on special price at any given time. I use gold wave as my recording program of choice. I record in wave format and only when I am comfortable with the final result convert it to MP3. The major thing is you need a sound card that has an option on the recording tab of what you hear or possibly wave / MP3 to obtain the desired results of hearing your own voice along with your screen reader. Some people use a mixer but I never got that fancy since of the 9 sound cards in this house 4 of them have that capability. Each system has an internal and I also have 5 external cards. Re: [JAWS-Users] uninstalling Jaws v12
Also, don't uninstall shared components if you also have Open Book on your system. If you uninstall the shared components with another version of Jaws on the computer the other version / bersions will not work either. Have you tried doing a repair on your Jaws12? Take care. That way, you will know if jaws is the problem. Re: [JAWS-Users] interesting issue with win7 jaws11 volume control
Jaws don't have anything to do with the volume controls. You should ask your computer tech about that one. At 11:34 PM 6/20/2011, you wrote: I just got my computer back from having win7 reinstalled and for some reason, in my volume control three three volume options for jaws exist. However, I only have one copy of jaws, jaws11, on my computer. So just wondering why there are three volume controls? [JAWS-Users] jfw description issue
Hi all: I got a werid JFW issue now running 12 latest build and Win7 64 bit. Now when I tab into a message it tells me if the font changes, spacing, etc. I know I must've turned some setting on but I can't seem to find it. Anyone know where I might find it? I tried text processing already and its not there. Jorge For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
