[JAWS-Users] Uploading folders to Google Docs

2011-07-31 Thread CrisMunoz54
Hello list,

Recently I saw that Google Docs now supports the uploading of folders and
was curious if any Jaws users have attempted uploading their folders and
what they found the experience to be?

I’ve uploaded a couple of individual files and it took a little work with
the Jaws cursor and whatnot, but for the most part, it wasn’t too bad. I
know that actually working with Google Docs itself is all but impossible,
but I was more interested in the storage feature. How was the uploading
process? Was it reasonably accessible sorting the various files once
uploaded? What about downloading an individual file?

I’ve got quite a bit of books from Bookshare and other titles from other
sources I’ve collected over the years and wanted to upload this particular
folder as a failsafe since it would be a colossal pain to have to try to
hunt them all down should something happen to my pc which is getting rather
long in the tooth and download once I finally upgrade my system. I do have
the latest Jaws release, but am using JFW 11.0 out of personal preference as
12 in every subsequent release continues to be a major pain for me. But
that’s a topic for some other time though.

Any observations or pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks,

The easiest way to update to the latest version of Adobe Reader, which is
10.1.0, is to use Ninite Installer. Just check the box labeled "Reader",
andclick on the Get Installer button. Ninite will download and install the
latest version of Adobe Reader without any extra crap or tool bars. You can
use Ninite to install many other programs as well, including Adobe Flash and
CCleaner.

Hi Doris,

Many thanks indeed. I am in London and would certainly try your suggestion.
Unfortunately, K1000 does not always retain the colours and lay out of a
scanned document which are important features for sighted people or when you
wish to print a copy of the scanned file.

I am surprised that k1k does not allow you to keep the original document
format but then I am not a k1k user currently.

I have used Abbyy Finereader since its version 3.0. Any recent version of Fr
does allow you to keep the document formatting.

Depending on where you live in the world, you may be able to get a previous
version of the software at a much reduced price.

If you want to buy Finereader, you want to get the Professional version.

I just checked headers and saw that you are in Europe. Try going to

www.pearl.de

and see if they have an English version of their webpage. There you can get
FR9, the previous version of Fr, for about 30 Euros. It will probably be
f=proficient for what you need - and is the same fine engine that is used in
the latest version of k1k I believe.

2011-07-31 Thread Mike & Barbara In Arcadia
HI John,

1 thing you can try is to use the updater that is in Adobe's preferences.
1. Open Adobe from your shortcut on your desktop or start menu.
2. With the Adobe window open, press control + K, to open preferences, or
press Alt + E, for the edit menu, arrow up to preferences & press enter.
3. In preferences, press the letter U, until you have Update highlighted,
now tab to the update options, arrow up / down to make your choice, tab to
okay, press enter to save & close preferences, & Press Alt + F4 to close
Adobe.

I don't know how long it will take Adobe to let you know that a newer
version is available but, it is an option. Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 32 bit

2011-07-31 Thread Doris and Chris
This really is not so hard to understand. You need the jaws version
corresponding to your operating system. since jaws 10, there have
been both 32bit and 64bit versions. You need the 32bit version of
jaws if your operating system is 32bit and you need the 64bit version
of jaws if your windows is 64bit.

you can run a 32bit operating system on 64bit hardware but you cannot
run a 64bit operating system on 32bit hardware.

As a user, you probably will not know the difference except that a
64bit operating system makes better use of 64bit hardware and gives
you a few advantages like being able to make use of more than 3.5 gigs of RAM.

If you check the system properties of your version of windows, it
will tell you if you are using a 32bit or 64bit operating system.
Just get the appropriate version of jaws and you are good to go.

What fun, Kate. Thankfully, Jaws 12 handles ribbons quite well. But I would
hate to try navigating that kind of layout with an older version of jaws.
It can be done but it takes a lot more patience and time than anyone

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 10 Not Talking on Boot Up

2011-07-31 Thread Mike & Barbara In Arcadia
Hi Margaret,

A friend of ours had this same problem with Jaws9. The fix for this
problem, at least this is what we were told by FS tech support, was to run
Jaws9 as a service but, in order to do this, Jaws9 has to be the Jaws
version that starts when the computer / Windows starts. When you installed
/ authorized Jaws12, that should have authorized Jaws12 & all earlier Jaws
versions that are installed on the computer. When you ask to have your
activation keys renewed, they usually only give you 1 activation key now,
where in the past they used to give you your limit of all 3. If I am
incorrect or have misstated anything here, someone please jump in & correct
me. Hope this helps. Take care.
Mike
P.S. You should probably call FS tech support to talk to them about this
Jaws9 problem, just in case something has changed since the time I talked to
them about our friends' problem with the program.

If you are referring to my request to have my activation count re-set, I
requested it a week ago and never heard. I don't know if the request got
lost in the shuffle. As of earlier this morning, my count is 1, so I don't
understand why J9 wants to be activated since it has been on My Desktop for
a couple years. My memory is that I reluctantly installed JAWS 10 and was
happily using J9 in normal mode.

I apologize if you were referring to something else.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 10 Not Talking on Boot Up

2011-07-31 Thread Doris and Chris

The new soundcard would be the reason your older jaws want to be activated.

for a fix until you can get your activation problem sorted out next
week, you can copy the shortcut from your desktop for the version of
jaws you want to run - and that is activated - into your startup
folder. This will give you speech automatically once your desktop is
loaded. It is not quite the same as loading jaws as a service but
should do the trick unless you need to have jaws speak at the logon screen.

jaws is way too picky about hardware changes with its activation. You
might want to look into getting a hardware dongle to avoid such
problmes - or see if the free nvda isn't sufficientfor what you need
to do on the computer.

Dear Miss Margaret,

You should not have to activate your jaws 9.0 in order to turn off
the "run jaws first" option in it.

when it comes up after boot up and asks to be activated, have it run
in 40-minute mode instead. This is plenty of time to go into its
basic options and to uncheck the "run first jaws" (or run jaws at
windows startup" or whatever it is called these days.

when you have unchecked the option in jaws 9, tab to the "OK" tutton,
enter on it. then close out jaws 9 and bring up jaws 10 or whatever
version you want to have coming up when you start your computer. go
into its options and and check the checkbox to have it start
automatically. This should fix the problem.

I can only guess to the reason why your jaws 9 wants to be activated
when your 10 is working fine. Did you by any chance get a new jaws
license in between so that the newer jaws maybe has a diferent
serial number? You cold check the serial number - not the long
activation code) when you bring up the different versions to fix the
automatic startup. This is just a wild guess, though.

good luck and keep us posted!

Cheers,

Doris

programmes, Accessories, and open and close it, well that's the sort of thing I
want to try and see what it is like. I believe its called Thread messaging
something like that.

Sorry I sound so vague but that's all I know about it.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Just for the record I am using Jaws 12 build .525 and windows live mail 2009.

[JAWS-Users] Alva Delphi Braille display with jaws

2011-07-31 Thread G . Braille
my computer crashes when I am trying using Alva Delphi Braille display with
parallel connection with JAWS.
I have done the braille setting configuration under the Braille... menu and
have selected the appropriate braille display with parallel port.
However, The computer is crashing when the JAWS to initialize the braille
display and I read the following line on the display says: "JAWS Start".

Then, jaws freezes and the computer restart again and again by it self.
I know I am talking about an old type of Braille Display with parallel
connection.

Any solution or if anyone can send me the Alva Delphi driver offline zipped?

Thanks in advance.
Tom.
