yes but if the file is locked/secured and/or accessibility is turned off as
well, then it can't scan it, don't know where folks got that notion, unless
K9 did something to circumvent pdf security? if its secured its not scanable

If you have Open Book or Kurzweil you can send the file to the printer
then

select the appropriate one and the image file is converted. Jaws OCR is
best used just to get a look at what it is so you know if you want to
proceed further with a conversion process. It is not meant to read long
documents. For that you really need some kind of scanning program that
will

convert image files to text.

Hi,

I am assuming that the PDF document is an image. If you have a scanner,
you

can print the document and then scan it to have Jaws be able to read the
document as a text file.

I don't have open book or Kirzwell, but I understand that either one can
read the image file and convert it to text. I also understand that there
might be some site on the web that will do the same. Sorry to say, but I
don't know where that would be. Perhaps a Google search can find one for
you?

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Unattended

2012-06-26 Thread Hicks Steven (CORNWALL IT SERVICES)
Hi friends,

Does anyone know if it is still possibly to perform an unattended installation
of Microsoft Windows 7 Home premium with the same scripts as Microsoft Windows
7 Pro? I seem to be having some strange issues where it doesn't seem to pick
up the script in the normal way.

Many thanks in anticipation,

Re: [JAWS-Users] reading empty PDF documents in JAWS 13

2012-06-26 Thread Flor Lynch
If it's possible, it's better to open the pdf than print it. V12 and 13
of Kurzweil1000 can open the pdf and then start image recognition in it.
(This is a more accurate process than printing it.) So use that or your
off-the-shelf OCR program (if you have one) [with JAWS], if it can open
pdf's.

Hello actually you can;

Try the following;

1, go to and open,

2, down arrow and enter on contacts,

3, when contact's open,
Shift+tab until you hear;
Command modgual toolbar organize button,

4, now right arrow until you hear;
Export button press enter,

5, you're now being asked;
Select the format you want to export contacts to.
Here you can choose,
CSV comma separated values,
Now tab enter on export button,

6, here, you're being asked,
Save exported file as,
So give/type a name tor the file,
Now tab to browse and press enter,

Now if you tab you will see,
Name of the exported file,
Type of file, CSV,
And you also can tell the computer where you wish to save the file, the
default should be my documents,
So tab to save press enter,

7, now you land on a next button press enter,
Now you're in a screen where you could check various fields,
First name, last name, middle name, etc.
However you can just,
Tab over and press enter on,
Finished button,
You will receive a prompt that the export is complete,
Tab okay press enter.
Now just alt+f4 to close.
Now you should find the file in my documents, or where ever you told the
computer to save the file.

Hope that made sense...

The contacts as is setup now works for my mail client. I want to put this

I did a test by zipping a section of my contacts using 7 zip, it all seemed
to still be there as is after I unzipped it. So if there's not a different

[JAWS-Users] Using JAWS with Quick Books

2012-06-26 Thread Raewyn Whisker
Hello Scott,

My name is Raewyn Whisker and I work for a company called Accomplish.
We have an accessible accounting package called 'CashManager' that will
allow you to do what you are looking for.

I understand QuickBooks is a little harder to use these days as the
accessibility has got harder as the years have gone on. I also
understand that some scripts are being written, but haven't heard when
they will be released.

You could continue struggling with QuickBooks, or have a look at
something different. We have a trial product you can download and have
a play with before you spend any money. We also have a support centre
who you can talk to or email. Our technicians will work with you to help
you through any problems you have. Although we don't profess to know
much about screen readers (yet) - we have and are working closely with
companies like Freedom Scientific to ensure our product is, remains, and
improves it's accessibility.

If you would rather work with someone closer to home (we are based in
New Zealand), we have a US Distributor - Triumph Technology and I am
sure they would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have
as well.

Our website address is http://us.accomplishglobal.com/ and our
distributors website address is http://www.attriumph.com/ . Why don't
you download a trial, have a look for yourself, and come back to either
myself or Earle Harrison (copied in on this email) if you have any
comments or questions.

Hello Everyone,

I use to operate a small management accounting consulting business.
After having been away from it for a few years, I am about to restart
the consulting business. Previously, I found Quick Books not to work
well with JAWS And so my clients who used Quick Books exported their
data for me to work with. This was a workable solution but I would like
to occasionally be able to access it for myself. How well do the
current versions of JAWS and Quick Books work together? Are there any
scripts out there for Quick Books and JAWS? I am using JAWS 13.

Thanks,

Scott Duck

Re: [JAWS-Users] Saving Window 7 Contacts

2012-06-26 Thread Trish
Probably. After all of this, I have to just leave it as is unfortunately.
It still is good info to know how to do for windows apps.

I guess my Trish folder by default saves to my downloads, while the email
client saves to my documents when I save emails that is..

I can only guess that since contacts was already in Trish folder, it just
saved it in the default location.

Hello;
Well, you probably didn't choose a particular folder through the browse,
Although I assumed the default in this case would have been my documents.

Hello actually you can;

Try the following;

1, go to and open,
Username

2, down arrow and enter on contacts,

3, when contact's open,
Shift+tab until you hear;
Command modgual toolbar organize button,

4, now right arrow until you hear;
Export button press enter,

5, you're now being asked;
Select the format you want to export contacts to.
Here you can choose,
CSV comma separated values,
Now tab enter on export button,

6, here, you're being asked,
Save exported file as,
So give/type a name tor the file,
Now tab to browse and press enter,

Now if you tab you will see,
Name of the exported file,
Type of file, CSV,
And you also can tell the computer where you wish to save the file, the
default should be my documents,
So tab to save press enter,

7, now you land on a next button press enter,
Now you're in a screen where you could check various fields,
First name, last name, middle name, etc.
However you can just,
Tab over and press enter on,
Finished button,
You will receive a prompt that the export is complete,
Tab okay press enter.
Now just alt+f4 to close.
Now you should find the file in my documents, or where ever you told the
computer to save the file.

Is there way to save the windows 7 contact list found in my Trish folder?

I have a reason to have the existing one as it is now, but want to remove
some of the entries for another app which I do not want in contacts.

Hope that made sense...

The contacts as is setup now works for my mail client. I want to put this
somewhere else, but some of the items I plan on removing before I put it in
the new program. So was thinking maybe I need to save the one now just in
case something doesn't work or, for having 2 contact list info for 2
different programs.

I did a test by zipping a section of my contacts using 7 zip, it all seemed
to still be there as is after I unzipped it. So if there's not a different
way to do this, then at least that will work..

Appreciate any help,
Trish

The book's format options include MS Word and braille.

 of windows 7. I have a friend that is using windows 7 and jaws 12 but she
 seems to have different features and screens seem to be layed out
 differently. She is having difficulties. With the layout. For Instance,
 When she goes into the control panel, it is layed out much like a a
 webpage
 while, for me, it does the same but I can use first letter navigation.

 My question is Does windows 7 have to be in a different mode or classic
 mode
 for her to navigate its operating system more easily. Are there some
 settings that she needs to change so she can have her computer set up
 either
 like mine or a person that can easily use windows 7. She is willing to
 learn windows 7, but, at the same time, is getting frustrated and wants to
 go back to XP. How can I help her?

Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 layout

2012-06-26 Thread inthaneelf

here you go straight out of my helpful hints:
go into control panel, tab to appearances and personalization, and enter on
it.

now tab to task bar and start menu. and enter on it.
now control tab to start menu tab, go to customize, scroll down to
control panel, and instead of

display as a link check display as a menu. You will get a list of
control menu items.

When she went into the view menu, it says that everything in that list is
unavailable.  Any other suggestions?
