But, if I mute it, I would have to memorize the steps to get back to uncheck
the mute button because since jaws got muted you're up the creek without a

I like the insert + spacebar +S to turn speech on/off.
What's the sense to muting speech when you're blind???
Adios.

Allison, Ava, Smantha, and Tom are the U.S. voices. However, they are very
expressive as was discussed in the latest FS cast as compared to previous
versions. The direct version does not indicate caps by raising pitch like
the expressive version. I am using Ava myself and am very happy with the
response on my Windows 7 64 bit running both jaws and magic with 6 gigs of
ram.
I am not up on all the additional voices for other countries but I am
impressed with all the vocalizer expressive voices out there for everyone
already.

I am also very happy with the first public beta so far.
It's playing very well with Magic 12 and comes in handy on all these
overcrowded web sites today.

Hi Guys,
I have installed the U.S. Vocalizer Expressive voices on my machine. I have
used Ava a little and I don't think that I have ever heard a happier
sounding synthetic voice, unlike Samantha, who always sounds a little mad.
I wish that Ava was available for my iPhone. Overall though, for JAWS, I
still prefer plain old Eloquence. I have used it for 15 years or so, ever
sense they started packaging it with JAWS, and I have just gotten so use to
it that it seems a little strange using anything else. The Eloquence voice
itself sounds very robotic but I think that it does a better job at very
high speeds and the pronunciation is a little better than many of these more
natural sounding voices.
Thanks,
Scott Duck

friends, I'll try my best to explain this. but, i fear i may be the only

for some weird reason on the beta release i for the life of me, cannot find

only in eloquence, but on the vocalizer expressions.
am i the only one?
I will see what happens here before I submit a report.
anyone else have this problem?

Aren't their two versions of internet explorer in windows 8, the metro
one and the real one? You might make sure you're using the real one. I
don't know if firefox is any better, but it is always good to have it
around in case internet explorer gets messed up by spyware or what have you.

I don't know what version of Windows that you are using. I use Windows 8.
The JAWS cursor works differently in Windows 8 because of some of the behind

have found that I get blank blank blank very often when using the JAWS

Re: [JAWS-Users] setting up/configuring speakers

2013-09-11 Thread susan

Jose,
I only have one soundcard so couldn't understand what the problem was. It
turns out to be a relatively simple fix which seems to have something to do
with the configuration of this case rather than the properties of the
soundcard. With a bit of experimentation, my son found that I could/should
keep speakers plugged into the rear audio jack and reserve the front jack
for headphone use rather than attempting to plug speakers into the front.
When I connect or disconnect phones windows obligingly provides me with a
status message, but in any case I don't have to mess with soundcard
properties. I'm not sure if this is a configuration unique to my system and
may not have explained the solution very well, but offer this as an option
to anyone else if this should unexpectedly happen to them. I'd be curious as
to whether anyone else has seen this and can explain why the jacks might not
be created equal. hth.

Hi listers,
i apologize for the novice question, but have reached the end of my
admittedly limited patience.

Quite simply, I'm running JAWS 12 on a Windows 7 system with a
Realtech HD soundcard. With my previous SB Live card in XP it was a
simple matter of plug and play to swap between headphones and speakers
but this does not seem to be the case now. While I generally work with
headphones, there are times when I wish to switch to speaker
configuration and would like instructions on how to do this. My
sighted husband is available in case of major disasters, but his usual
approach is to disable JAWS while stumbling toward whatever solution
and he is not particularly good at explaining his steps so that I can
learn them. In this situation he had configured the speakers
temporarily, but at reboot I was unable to bring up anything but
system sounds via speakers, though again headphones worked fine. I've
attempted to look around the audio manager and speakers dialogues but
still seem to be missing something, so step by step help would be
best. Many thanks.

Mine boots with the beta. You can always shut it off and go back to the

here's
the link with the new features, fixes and enhancements included in JFW 15.

http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/magic/MAGic-whats-new.asp#upgrade

It's also available on FS's front page.
While I wasn't too excited about the upgrade since I figured it would be
mostly Windows 8 and touch screen centric, I am pleased with the fixes
that
were supposedly addressed. Especially the third party braille display
 driver
thing and foreign language stuff. Not to mention other details like rss

Regarding the installation of the public beta for 15...
You have to first install the new SMA versions before the auto update
feature works. So version 14 looks for version 14 updates only.

Once the beta is installed, we intend on each update, including the
 release,
to be detected via Auto Updates going forward.

Took it for a spin on Win7 64-bit, and found it to be much better than the

Although I don't read as quick as I navigate, increasing the reading rate
was very nice with no distortion.

Check more carefully. I expect you can, either with the second jaws
shortcut on your desktop, or by running it directly if need be.

You have to first install the new SMA versions before the auto update

FS reader is used to read daisy books.
Maybe you never downloaded any or on the jaws installation disk there is a
check to automatically install the daisy books lessons.

Eric, what about Dell's touch pad that they offer if you don't want to pay
$300 for a touch monitor? You can also use it with a lap top too. It's $60
and if I do recall correctly, it is 10 point touch. It's one of the extra
things you can get with your brand new PC as you build it. Which I do plan
to get a new PC. I just ask since what I want to get is a desk top and if I
can save some money. Especially since I already have a Samsung TV/monitor
combo. Also, what about the so called all in ones? Like the Enspiireon all
in 1 and the XPS all in 1, as well as others?

Apple stuff has her, The first Victor Streem had her, and on it goes. Enough

Allison, Ava, Smantha, and Tom are the U.S. voices. However, they are very
expressive as was discussed in the latest FS cast as compared to previous

[JAWS-Users] question about new Vocalizer Expressive voices

2013-09-11 Thread Josh Eubank
List,

I just had a quick question. To me, it seems that the old Vocalizer
Direct voices that are still here in Expressive, specifically Tom,
Karen, Samantha, and the rest of the English speaking voices, all
sound the same. They don't sound different to me compared to Ava or
Allison. In other words, they don't appear to have been enhanced at
all when you listen to say, Ava. I was just wondering if there was a
difference in them and I just hadn't noticed yet. Thanks, Josh

You have to first install the new SMA versions before the auto update
feature works. So version 14 looks for version 14 updates only.

Once the beta is installed, we intend on each update, including the release,
to be detected via Auto Updates going forward.

response on my Windows 7 64 bit running both jaws and magic with 6 gigs of
ram.
I am not up on all the additional voices for other countries but I am
impressed with all the vocalizer expressive voices out there for everyone
already.
I am also very happy with the first public beta so far.
It's playing very well with Magic 12 and comes in handy on all these
overcrowded web sites today.

Re: [JAWS-Users] youtube question

2013-09-11 Thread abdulaziz dapilin
hello, finding youtube URL is the same as moving to the browser's
address bar. thus, window standard keystroke alt + D will work. it
will bring you focus to the browser's address bar. it works in any web
addresses including youtube. and since this command automatically
highlights the URL, you can simply tap control + C if you intend to
paste the address somewhere else. additionally, this command is not
specific to JAWS nor any web browsers. it works fine in internet
explorer, firefox and chrome.

Jose,
I only have one soundcard so couldn't understand what the problem was. It
turns out to be a relatively simple fix which seems to have something to do
with the configuration of this case rather than the properties of the
I'd be curious as

to whether anyone else has seen this and can explain why the jacks might not

be created equal. hth.

HI Susan, I want to make shore I understand what's going on. Are you saying
that you can get windows sounds, and jaws, but not if you plug in the
speekers? if your using more then 1 sound card it would be possable for jaws
to go threw 1 sound card, while windows sounds go threw the other.

As for your hubby, well, you could just keep asking him to fix it over and
over, and maybe he will ither fix it for good, or simply explaine to you how
he did it so you will stop bugging him.

if that don't work, try blackmail. LOL! smiley, just kidding.

Hi listers,
i apologize for the novice question, but have reached the end of my
admittedly limited patience.

Susan

 Hi miss Lynch,
I know how the control works, but I'm not using a brail display.

I went back and copy your reply:
You might want to mute JAWS speech if you're listening to radio or TV

 you're
recording something with software on your computer.

I think the club already gave the answer for this question.

When reading with a braille display, you are also navigating. the
control key only pauses speech; it doesn't stop it. when you press
another key JAWS speech will restart.

 also assuming jaws is running.

 1. hit insert f 11.
 2. hit s for speekers
 3. hit enter twice.
 4. tab once.
 5. hit space.

that should un mute the speekers.

from listening to the PTR1 and PTR2 manuals over, over, over, over, over,
over, over, over and over and over again. Front to back too. Jill was okay
too. Sam sounds annoyed kind of, and she's also too cliché for my taste. The
Apple stuff has her, The first Victor Streem had her, and on it goes. Enough
already with Sam! I really wish they'd bring Jenn back I wouldn't mind her
all over the place. Smile. Also, why don't they ever use hot chicks for
these voices? It's always women in there 40s or something. Let's hear some
hot chick for once. Even some girlly 36 year old or something.

Hi Guys,
I have installed the U.S.
Thanks,
Scott Duck

I wish they had celebrity voices. Dr. Phil, maybe Stephen King.

Also, they should have other dialects.

[JAWS-Users] interesting problem installing j15 beta

2013-09-11 Thread Lenny McHugh
Well I started the install and theclick when the system is being checked was
progressing. Then the message that 40 minute demo is up. I had to get my
wife to finish the install. It stopped talking before the type of install
was selected.

To those of you who have already put JAWS Beta 15 on your computer, when
you
boot up, do you boot up with it or with your oficial Jaws?

I'm drawing a blank as to what happened in the past.

Thank you to all! I just want to know what to expect.

So, while it looks like the beta will be available tomorrow Tuesday, here's
the link with the new features, fixes and enhancements included in JFW 15.
http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/magic/MAGic-whats-new.asp#upgrade

It's also available on FS's front page.
While I wasn't too excited about the upgrade since I figured it would be
mostly Windows 8 and touch screen centric, I am pleased with the fixes that
were supposedly addressed. Especially the third party braille display
driver
thing and foreign language stuff. Not to mention other details like rss
notification in Firefox and Outlook and IE bugs being squashed.
