Hi Jose, My system tray only has V for Volume and then I have to follow the adjust volume menu. But, if I mute it, I would have to memorize the steps to get back to uncheck the mute button because since jaws got muted you're up the creek without a paddle. I like the insert + spacebar +S to turn speech on/off. What's the sense to muting speech when you're blind??? Adios. Re: [JAWS-Users] new voices?
Allison, Ava, Smantha, and Tom are the U.S. voices. However, they are very expressive as was discussed in the latest FS cast as compared to previous versions. The direct version does not indicate caps by raising pitch like the expressive version. I am using Ava myself and am very happy with the response on my Windows 7 64 bit running both jaws and magic with 6 gigs of ram. I am not up on all the additional voices for other countries but I am impressed with all the vocalizer expressive voices out there for everyone already. I am also very happy with the first public beta so far. It's playing very well with Magic 12 and comes in handy on all these overcrowded web sites today. blind5sparrow For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] new voices?
Hi Guys, I have installed the U.S. Vocalizer Expressive voices on my machine. I have used Ava a little and I don't think that I have ever heard a happier sounding synthetic voice, unlike Samantha, who always sounds a little mad. I wish that Ava was available for my iPhone. Overall though, for JAWS, I still prefer plain old Eloquence. I have used it for 15 years or so, ever sense they started packaging it with JAWS, and I have just gotten so use to it that it seems a little strange using anything else. The Eloquence voice itself sounds very robotic but I think that it does a better job at very high speeds and the pronunciation is a little better than many of these more natural sounding voices. Re: [JAWS-Users] setting up/configuring speakers
Jose, I only have one soundcard so couldn't understand what the problem was. It turns out to be a relatively simple fix which seems to have something to do with the configuration of this case rather than the properties of the soundcard. With a bit of experimentation, my son found that I could/should keep speakers plugged into the rear audio jack and reserve the front jack for headphone use rather than attempting to plug speakers into the front. When I connect or disconnect phones windows obligingly provides me with a status message, but in any case I don't have to mess with soundcard properties. I'm not sure if this is a configuration unique to my system and may not have explained the solution very well, but offer this as an option to anyone else if this should unexpectedly happen to them. I'd be curious as to whether anyone else has seen this and can explain why the jacks might not be created equal. hth. Quite simply, I'm running JAWS 12 on a Windows 7 system with a Realtech HD soundcard. With my previous SB Live card in XP it was a simple matter of plug and play to swap between headphones and speakers but this does not seem to be the case now. While I generally work with headphones, there are times when I wish to switch to speaker configuration and would like instructions on how to do this. My sighted husband is available in case of major disasters, but his usual approach is to disable JAWS while stumbling toward whatever solution and he is not particularly good at explaining his steps so that I can learn them. In this situation he had configured the speakers temporarily, but at reboot I was unable to bring up anything but system sounds via speakers, though again headphones worked fine. I've attempted to look around the audio manager and speakers dialogues but still seem to be missing something, so step by step help would be best. Many thanks. [JAWS-Users] question about new Vocalizer Expressive voices
List, I just had a quick question. To me, it seems that the old Vocalizer Direct voices that are still here in Expressive, specifically Tom, Karen, Samantha, and the rest of the English speaking voices, all sound the same. They don't sound different to me compared to Ava or Allison. In other words, they don't appear to have been enhanced at all when you listen to say, Ava. I was just wondering if there was a difference in them and I just hadn't noticed yet. Thanks, Josh For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] youtube question
hello, finding youtube URL is the same as moving to the browser's address bar. thus, window standard keystroke alt + D will work. it will bring you focus to the browser's address bar. it works in any web addresses including youtube. and since this command automatically highlights the URL, you can simply tap control + C if you intend to paste the address somewhere else. additionally, this command is not specific to JAWS nor any web browsers. it works fine in internet explorer, firefox and chrome. Re: [JAWS-Users] setting up/configuring speakers
Hi Susan, I hook up my extra laptop to my stereo from the ear jack to the auxillary input. I run my Itunes player and work with jaws in stereo, It sounds like Barry White is the new Jaws voice. Just need the right wire with the male adapter on both endsand radio Shack has them in any length, I'm not sure if the size adapter is a number 2. I hope this help. I'd be curious as to whether anyone else has seen this and can explain why the jacks might not be created equal. hth. Are you saying that you can get windows sounds, and jaws, but not if you plug in the speekers? if your using more then 1 sound card it would be possable for jaws to go threw 1 sound card, while windows sounds go threw the other. As for your hubby, well, you could just keep asking him to fix it over and over, and maybe he will ither fix it for good, or simply explaine to you how he did it so you will stop bugging him. if that don't work, try blackmail. It's playing very well with Magic 12 and comes in handy on all these overcrowded web sites today. blind5sparrow For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] new voices?
I use it too when i'm reading a spanish website or an email. it's cool!. At 07:43 PM 9/11/2013, you wrote: Hi Nicole, They do, there is one called Jorge and he speaks Spanish... I'm using Ava right now. She'f quite expressive no pun entended but not as much as I expected. I'm no longer using Elequence. I'm just using Ava. It's so disappointing they got rid of Jenn though. I loved Jenn. She was a very good reading voice. But then again, I may have just gotten too use to her from listening to the PTR1 and PTR2 manuals over, over, over, over, over, over, over, over and over and over again. Front to back too. Jill was okay too. Sam sounds annoyed kind of, and she's also too cliché for my taste. The Apple stuff has her, The first Victor Streem had her, and on it goes. Enough already with Sam! I really wish they'd bring Jenn back I wouldn't mind her all over the place. Smile. Also, why don't they ever use hot chicks for these voices? It's always women in there 40s or something. Let's hear some hot chick for once. Even some girlly 36 year old or something. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Scott Duck Sent: Wednesday, September 11, 2013 11:30 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] new voices? While I wasn't too excited about the upgrade since I figured it would be mostly Windows 8 and touch screen centric, I am pleased with the fixes that were supposedly addressed. Especially the third party braille display driver thing and foreign language stuff. Not to mention other details like rss notification in Firefox and Outlook and IE bugs being squashed. -Original Message-
