[JAWS-Users] Microsoft Windows 8 IUnattended Installation

2014-02-18 Thread Hicks Steven (CORNWALL IT SERVICES)
Has anyone had any luck with an unattended installation script for Windows 8 or
has managed to write down the steps to install to a point where you can use
narator please?
I have tried my Windows 7 script and changed the key but it doesn't seem to
work for some reason.

[JAWS-Users] Issue With JAWS 15 And Internet Explorer 11

2014-02-18 Thread Charles Nicol
Hi,

At home, I am using WINDOWS 8.1, Internet Explorer 11 and the latest build
of JAWS 15. When I open IE 11, I used to hear a page read out and JAWS was
in Virtual Cursor Mode. Now, although I can read menus and can hear the
names of various Tabs which I have, it appears that the main website
content window is blank. JAWS does not read anything and remains in PC
Cursor Mode. I can open Google Chrome and it works, however, I prefer to
use IE. I have tried refreshing the page, to no avail.

Any ideas as to why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? My
internet connection is fine and working for everything else.

Many Thanks, With Kind Regards,
Charles Nicol

I tried tabbing several times. JAWS reads each tab in turn, when reached,

[JAWS-Users] Win Defender on Win 7?

2014-02-18 Thread Rich Hamel
Hi all,
  I have a win 7 and JAWS 15.
I got some type of message indicating that Windows Defender needed to run a
scan.
I don't think that I even haveDefender on my PC.
I use Quick Heel as anti virus on that machine.
The message looked like an update from microsoft.
Has anyone seen this?
Does one need Defender on Win 7 machines?
I thought Defender was only for Win 8 machines.

Thanks for any help.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Is it possible to use Jaws as a stand alone software?

2014-02-18 Thread Jorge Rivas
Hi,
Yes you can, FS hass a page in their website that will explain how to do it.
You'll need two thumb drives, one for the jaws confirmation number and the
other one you will install a couple different files and jaws will be able to
read certain things only in that computer, I believe.
The only down fall is, you will need some vision or help to install the
information from the thumb drive into the unfamiliar computer.
Then, from then on, you should be good.

HTH and that's all I read a long time ago.

Jorge

Check insert-z to make sure that is turned on. If that isn't it, try

2. When this opens it will present you with a list of installed programs,

I keep notes from messages of importance to the group. I need to uninstall a
program. I am using Win.7 and JAWS 12. For some reason, neither of these two
options works:

*Uninstalling a program

Once you are on the program you wish to uninstall, just press enter and
follow the instructions.

To do so, you must be on control panel, programs.

When I try this I get to the prompt which stops me from doing anything to
this program, least of all, uninstall it.

*Press application on the program you want to remove, then choose something
like uninstall / change.

In the Application menu of my system, there is no word close to change or
uninstall anywhere.

Can someone offer another idea which will hopefully work???

Thank you very much.

when I tried to find a link and download it and install it it keeps
telling me I still am using IE 9. It keeps telling me to upgrade to
IE 11. How does IE 11 work with JAWS 13, could I upgrade directly to
it or do I need to find a link to download IE 10? if I need to find a
link to download it, where can I find it, and do I need to uninstall
IE 9 before downloading and installing IE 10? Sorry for all the
questions. Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Hi Liuda,
To uninstall a program:
1. Press the Windows key, and type the following in the search box:
add remove
On my systems, I get as far as typing add r, and add/remove programs pops
up. then press enter Alternatively, you can start typing:
programs and features
and press enter when it comes up.
2. When this opens it will present you with a list of installed programs,
which you can navigate with first-letter navigation if you wish.
3. Once the program you want to remove is selected, press the applications
key, and a menu will open, look for either uninstall, or uninstall/change,
and press enter.
4. Follow the prompts that are in this dialogue by using the tab key, and/or
up and down arrow keys.
5. You should be notified when the un-installation is complete, and whether
or not you are prompted, re-boot the computer.

Tomorrow's another day, another way!

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Uninstalling a Program

Re: [JAWS-Users] Is it possible to use Jaws as a stand alone software?

2014-02-18 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

There are portable versions of JAWS that can be run on a flash drive.
However, there is still some installation work, unlike NVDA. The JAWS Video
Intercept modules must be installed on the computer, and the computer
rebooted, before you can use the portable version. Also you can put in
your JAWS authorization number and authorize JAWS, or you can just run JAWS
in 40 minute demo mode. If you authorize JAWS, it does eat up one of your
authorization keys. You can look on the FS site and look for JAWS potable
or JAWS thumb drive. I believe that the most recent version is a release of
JAWS 14.

on this computer and if not how to become its Admin? At the same time, what
does this allow the Admin. To accomplish? Is everyone an Admin. On their
computer???

Thank you very much.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Win Defender on Win 7?

2014-02-18 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Al,

It really doesn't matter. Malware Bytes is a very well-respected
antispyware program. It doesn't hurt to have more than one antispyware
program running at the same time. There should only be one antivirus
program running on a system. I don't think Windows Defender will find any
spyware that Malware Bytes misses but whether or not a person uses it along
with Malware Bytes is a matter of preference. However, in Windows 8 Windows
Defender became an antivirus program as well as checking for spyware and
should not be used when another antivirus program is running.

Hello Al,

In Windows 7, Windows Defender is an antispyware program and can be used in
conjunction with MSE and Malware Bytes. Although, if you are running
Malware Bytes you likely don't need to have Windows Defender active. In
Windows 8, Windows Defender replaced MSE and is an antivirus and antispyware
program. In Windows 8, it should not be used in conjunction with another
antivirus program but can be used in conjunction with Malware Bytes or other
antispyware applications.
Also, in Windows 8, Windows Defender needs to be turned on. If another
antivirus program is on a system then it should be
uninstalled before using Windows Defender in Windows 8.

Take care.

The Windows Defender program in Windows 7 is an antispyware program. You

conjunction with MSE and Malware Bytes. Although, if you are running
Malware Bytes you likely don't need to have Windows Defender active. In
Windows 8, Windows Defender replaced MSE and is an antivirus and
antispyware
program. In Windows 8, it should not be used in conjunction with another
antivirus program but can be used in conjunction with Malware Bytes or
other
antispyware applications. Also, in Windows 8, Windows Defender needs to
be
turned on. If another antivirus program is on a system then it should be
uninstalled before using Windows Defender in Windows 8.

Take care.

Or, just type it in search and it will take you directly there. Should
this
be used in conjunction with MSE and/or malware bytes?

windows defender does not appear in the programs list in programs and
features if you want to check to see if its on your computer go to
control
panels, actions open actions and view installed securities it should list
defender as either on or off.

I looked on my Win 7 64bit pc and I do not see Windows Defender in the
program list. So I am assuming that Window Defender does not come on all
Win 7 pc's.
Can anyone tell me if this is true or not.

It comes on all windows 7 machines. It may or may not be turned on in
security center. Defender is more malware than viruses.

[JAWS-Users] How to stop jaws announcing graffic number before file name?

2014-02-18 Thread Mohib Anwar Rafay
Hi learned members, when ever I brouze files in an open file dialogue
box or installed programs list, jaws announces some grafic number
before the file name. say for e.g. grafic 208 c cleaner, grafic 304
kurzweil 1000, graffic 405 microsoft word 2007 etc. I am annoyed of
these grafic announcements. I want to listen the file name directly to
brouze fast, is there any way to stop it?

Re: [JAWS-Users] How to stop jaws announcing graffic number before filename?

2014-02-18 Thread raaju
hmm. What simply I do whenever I found myself in such situation is that I
press insert+v for quick setting or similar, I press down arrow one time to
overcome from added field, and then I press the later g until jaws says
the options of graphic, and by default it is set to all. Now I press
spacebar to toggle non, and press enter to close this dialog box, and save
the changes I have made. Now when I press up/down arrow, jaws won't speak
such graphic. But remember. It is only for temporary purpose. I even don't
know how to turn off the jaws by saying graphics permanently.

hello,

press insert + v to open quick settings. under general options there
is options call graphics. this happens if it has set to all. select
any option other than all by using space bar and press enter and you
would be get rid of this graphics announcement.
