Leonard,

Select the first cell in the column that you want to adjust, like A1.
Open the Home tab, then arrow down to the Cells submenu, and press enter.
Now, arrow down to Format..., and press enter on this.
Arrow down in the resulting menu and select Autofit Column Width.
This will make the column the width of the widest cell in the column, so
that the entries all fall within the limits of the column. You can do the

Re: [JAWS-Users] another jaws question

2014-08-14 Thread Mike B.
Hi Jamie,

Below are various notes I've saved for identifying colors. See if 1 of them
will help:

From: Steve
Use your skim reading tool. You first want to define a skim reading tool
(control-shift-Jaws Key-Down arrow).

You have four radio buttons, select the bottom one which is color and
attributes.

Now, tab to the color selection combo box and select the color you want.
You might need to find the first instance of the blue name in your word doc
so you know which shade of blue you need to specify in the attributes box.
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.
Steve

From: Cy Selfridge
Hi,
Try insert+numrow 5 to find the color of a particular letter.
Cy

From: Ann Byrne
First, you need to know what color you are searching for. If you
know one instance, you can press insert+5 on the numbers row for JAWS
to identify the color. Often, though, JAWS does not name the color
what Microsoft does, so there's a problem. So. *If you can
establish what the color is for Office, jump through these hoops:

1. In Word press control+f for find.
2. Be sure there is no text in the find field.
3. Open the find split button (space bar?) and arrow to advanced find.
4. Press enter, and tab to the find and replace toolbar.
5. Pressing enter on the toolbar gives you a formatting menu. enter on
font.
6. Tab to the color group, enter to open it, find your color and press
enter.
7. I didn't go farther than that, but I'm sure you have to get to an
okay button or two and press it or them.

Good luck!

Ann

From: Adrian Spratt
Try JAWS's skim reading. Press shift-control-JAWS key-down arrow to go into
a menu of choices. The fourth, or last, enables you to search by color.

You can also set up JAWS to identify colors in configuration Manager's
speech and sounds.
Adrian

From: Marquette, Ed
Another option is to switch the voice scheme.
JAWS key plus Alt Plus S will announce colors as you read. Well, actually,
it will give you a list of reading scheme voices, at least one of which will
announce colors.
That will allow you to read the entire text and have jaws pick and announce
the colors as the cursor moves over the text.
The color changes will be announced as you read line-by-line.
Be sure you pick a scheme from the list that announces the colors. I think
Classic with Colors is one of the choices.
Ed

From: Marquette, Ed
The same tip I gave to identify text in colors will work for underlined
text. Just press Alt plus JAWS key plus S. Pick a scheme that reads
attributes. JAWS will switch to that scheme. Turn it off by going back
to your preferred scheme which, for me, is classic.
Ed

From: Farfar Carlson
Ed,

Good tips, but won't help in a search for text with those attributes. Also I
think that in say all mode attributes are not spoken, unless there is a
speech scheme to do this?

It get rather arduous to arrow line-by-line or word-by-word to hear the
various attribute changes in a large document.

Dave

From: Marquette, Ed
Dave:
You are right. If one is just looking to find the underlined text and not
necessarily read the text with the underlined text distinguished from the
non-underlined text (same is true for colors), the reading scheme won't help
at all. The problem with just searching for the text, as Ann suggests, is
that it just gets you to the beginning of the text with that color or
attribute. I usually like to know when the underlining or color change
stops too.
I too use the MS Word format search strategy, and I thought you and Ann did
a great job of explaining. The Scheme just makes it easy precisely to
identify what is and what is not in the target color or attribute once you
get there.
Perhaps you and/or Ann know this. If the color or underlining feature is
applied through a style instead of just through direct formatting, will it
still work?
Presumably it would since, in any event, the text is in the desired
font/attribute. Still, Word can be a little funny about things like that.
For instance, if the color or attribute is applied through track changes,
one usually cannot search for double-underline or strikethrough text, even
though that is the way added or deleted text actually appears.
Ed

From: Adrian Spratt
I can think of a way to locate the end of color text. First, search for the
desired color, and in each instance placed a text marker, such as double
asterisk or number sign, each time a passage begins. When that process is
complete, return to the first instance of color text. Now change the color
to black, or however the regular text appears and search for the instances
where it resumes, indicating also that color text ends. Place another text
marker at those points. Obviously, if more than one color is used, as
happens when several lawyers are involved in negotiating or otherwise
drafting a document, other markers would be used for other colors.

This process would take a little time at the beginning, but save time in the
long run. The risk might be upsetting the original format with the new

Re: [JAWS-Users] keeping data in a excel 2013 cell

2014-08-14 Thread Annette Carr
When using the column auto fit feature, be aware that this could cause the
width of your total data area be too wide to fit on a page. Depending on
the width changing your paper layout to landscape instead of portrait might
solve the problem. If this does not, the columns that do not fit on the
page will be printed on a separate page.

If you know which cell(s) have more info in them than can be visually seen,
you can use the wrap text feature that is in the cell format dialog within
Excel2010, I'm not sure if you will find it in the same place in 2013.

I thought you had to select the entire column to ensure that the Column auto
width feature worked on the cell with the widest content. Only the content
selected will be considered when implementing this command. Maybe this has
changed and I'm not aware of it.

As the subject indicates, I'm having a problem with controlling spam. I

computer to see if anything is wrong. I've been told that all appears to
be
fine, so why am I still being deluged with dozens of spam e-mails per day?
I

raised the UAC to 100 percent and not a dent was made. I was told the only
choice I have is to block the senders. Well, I've already blocked so many

I

have over 700 addresses blocked and that was about two weeks ago. Please,

Thanks.

Anyway, I’m still familiarizing myself with the various keyboard commands so
maybe I just haven’t come across it yet. But I wanted to know if there was a
command or setting to have the titles spoken similar in Excel where Jaws
will read the row and Colum as one arrows through the spreadsheet?

[JAWS-Users] need screen layout information to enter into safe mode using windows 7 home premium

2014-08-14 Thread Jacques
Hi Listers:
I want to get into Safe Mode to scan for viruses on my windows 7 home premium
computer.
I use jaws 11 but I understand that Jaws interferes with actions taken in Safe
Mode so what do I need to do with my Jaws 11 program in this instance?

Part two of safe mode question:
What screen information does my untrained sighted helper has to look for,
(while we are repeatedly pressing the function 8 key after having restarted the
computer), which will tell us when we have arrived at the correct screen layout
to appear to prepare us to go into safe mode?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Take care,

Re: [JAWS-Users] questions I need answered for my job

2014-08-14 Thread Cristóbal
I'm sure there has to be a numpad combination, but I don’t' know it off
hand. You can as an option use the insert+4 command to bring the dialog box
of oddball symbols and select either one from there. They both appear as
options. I’m sure someone will be able to provide the corresponding ascii
command soon enough.

[JAWS-Users] jaws and education

2014-08-14 Thread Jamie Prater
Hi, all, I am looking at educational opportunities to use with jaws. I'm
interested in Christian Bible college, correspondence schools other than
Hadley, and self study materials to help learn skills for general
transcription. Can anybody recommend sites and software relating to these
things that works well with jaws 15? Thanks and have a blessed day.

Re: [JAWS-Users] need screen layout information to enter into safe mode using windows 7 home premium

2014-08-14 Thread TheHangMan
Hi,
Done that a couple times,
While the computer is booting up, press the F8 key rapidly.
When, the safe mode screen pops up jaws is not working at this time.
Jaws will only start up on a regular start up, not on safe mode.

If, it did not work, do it again.

The options I use was install and repair windows.
Try running the computer in safe mode.

Question???
Why can't you run your antivirus at a regular start up?

Somebody can add more info to this post.

Hi Listers:
I want to get into Safe Mode to scan for viruses on my windows 7 home
premium computer.
I use jaws 11 but I understand that Jaws interferes with actions taken in
Safe Mode so what do I need to do with my Jaws 11 program in this instance?

Part two of safe mode question:
What screen information does my untrained sighted helper has to look for,
(while we are repeatedly pressing the function 8 key after having restarted
the computer), which will tell us when we have arrived at the correct screen
layout to appear to prepare us to go into safe mode?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Take care,
Jacques

Re: [JAWS-Users] Internal wireless switch

2014-08-14 Thread TheHangMan
Hi,
Thanks to all that help,
But I contacted MSA and the problem was the internal wireless adapter drive
went dad.
He downloaded a new one and restarted the laptop.
He also check my router that it was working correctly.
MSA did an awesome job and save me money on a repair.

Interestingly enough my Lenovo has a external switch as well as a key
combination to disable the internal wireless card.

Honestly though I have not ever really concerned myself with the key command
since the switch is right in the front and most of the time I use an
external wireless card on the N band since the built in card is on the G
band.

Hi Jorge,
I believe there is some mis-understanding of some terms here.
A laptop, notebook etc has an internal wireless adapter, as opposed to one
that is plugged into some type of port on the outside of it's case.
Some devices have an actual mechanical switch on the outside of the case,
while others use a software switch thru some type of a keystroke.
It would be my guess that if you have an actual slide-type switch on the
outside of your computer, to turn the wireless on or off, then there is not
a specific keystroke to perform this task.
If you are sure that the external switch is in the on position, then you
should check the device manager for your wireless adapter, and make sure
that is in fact enabled.
If you would include more specific information about the version of Windows
and brand of computer it would be much easier to help track down the
problem.
HTH,
Rick Justice

Hi,

I believe I have this problem with my other laptop because it cannot pick up
the wifi signal.

The external wireless switch is on.

So, the internal must be off?

Can some one help?

Using the FN key + F12, or something in that command put you on that menu,
but I believe jaws will not speak.

Has anyone on the list ever turn on the internal wireless switch?

Thanks,

PS-

This is the second time I post this query.

[JAWS-Users] Automatic Maintenance

2014-08-14 Thread Michele Thredgold
Hi everyone. I've just seen a couple of postings on this topic.
Can someone tell me a little more about it? Is this automatic
maintenance a tool within the JAWS program or is it referring to
the Windows OS? How do I set it up for the best functionality
with Windows 7 and JAWS 15?

Thanks

Re: [JAWS-Users] need screen layout information to enter into safemode using windows 7 home premium

2014-08-14 Thread raaju
Hello, though I don't have much knowledge to computer technology, but what
I've gather and implementing on my computer as well, in order to enable
screen reader in safe mode, you first need to enable audio driver in safe
mode. But again due to inavailability of display driver, jaws can't be run
as expected. It may prompt you about the error about mirror display driver
or video intersept manager. So in such case NVDA will be the best screen
reader for such work. And if you couldn't turn your computer on in safe
mode, just do small changes in ms config in safe boot manager, now you'll be
automatically be taken in to safe mode once your computer is restart. And
there is a small registry file which makes your audio driver enable in safe
mode so that you can work without sighted help. Please feel free to live a
message if you need this enabling audio in safe mode registry file.

Thanks!
