[JAWS-Users] Regarding Adwcleaner
Hi Steve, The fact that this program is accessible using JAWS has me very interested. However, in your instructions for using Adwcleaner, you mention having to check items we would like to have purged from our computers: What I would like to know is how will we know which items are necessary to remove and which should remain? Can the casual computer user cause harm if they choose to check all items without actually knowing what each item refers to, or is every item found by Adwcleaner fair game? For instance, CCleaner, which I recognize is not used for removing malware, seldom, if ever, is so invasive that critical components are recommended for removal. Thanks for any additional information you can provide. How do I use MS-Word's Source Manager with JAWS? When I select Source Manager to add a reference, I am presented with a dialog. Using tab/shift-tab simply says "Source Manager", and arrow keys don't navigate among the controls or fields. The braille display at least presents the field names but I haven't succeeded in entering data. Suggestions? I normally use LaTeX for this kind of work, which is obviously completely accessible as it's based entirely on specially marked up text files and BibTeX files for citations. Of course, LaTeX is my preference, but some journals or colleagues may require MS-Word format, so it's useful to know what my bibliography handling options are in this environment. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question
Tom, Thinking a bit outside the box now. What if you put some unique characters in the subject line of a test email, like "XX" - whatever is unique. Then do your usual ctrl "S" or your preferred save to draft method. Then do a search using the alt key to bring up the Windows 7 Search box, then enter the unique subject line test message string. Perhaps the search will disclose the location of your saved messages and solve the mystery of the missing (or AWOL) draft folder. Good luck! I suggest calling the Microsoft Accessibility office at 800-936-5900. They can remote in to your computer, and should be able to figure this out. I have been impressed with the diligence of the folks in that office. The last time I called them, I had an issue that they could not figure out, and got hold of upper level tech support that did figure out the answer. It all happened in that single phone call. They always send me a subsequent email asking for feedback on how they did. -Original Message- From: Tom Behler Sent: Sunday, December 28, 2014 4:39 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question Louise: I just tried your approach by hitting Alt F4 to exit outlook. Re: [JAWS-Users] AdwCleaner: was Malware bytes
Hi Steeve. I'm always on the lookout for a good computer purger. I decided to try Adwcleaner based on your recommendations. First, since neither your message nor the Adwcleaner website mentioned the price, I was glad to find it was free. Second, your tutorial told me exactly what to expect. Third, my results showed me some registry entries I had never noticed so I decided it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and clean them. Finally, my computer is still working fine. So I think this is a keeper. Thanks for your recommendation. Re: [JAWS-Users] reccording to computer from tapes
Hi Paul, Thanks for your repply. Would it be possible to record a four-track tape with Audacity, wihich is free? If the old cable that conected old tape recorders doesn't work, I wonder if I could do the recording without conecting the recorder to the computer. Like in the old days when those cables were not around. I was also thinking about using a digital recorder and then transfering the content to the computer form there, but is it posible to do the four-track? I am new to all of this, so that is why I need detailed information. Thanks again. First off, see if you can find a USB to audio adaptor. I've seen a couple that use the 3.5 m.m. (1/8 inch) connector, but I haven't seen one that uses the same RCA phono connectors that were used on old tape decks. You might need an adaptor cable as well. Yes, using Goldwave you could record each side of the tape to digital, then cut/copy the left track or right track to a new sound file. If you don't have "crosstalk" between the channels, this will work fine. Same thing goes for Library of Congress format tapes, which are at half normal cassette speed; just record them into Goldwave, select the Pitch option from the Effects menu, then select (down one octave) to normalize the speed. A larger problem I have had with interfaces is that they fight over the ACEO drivers with JAWS, and JAWS usually loses. So, you might find yourself without speech. I don't know if any of this helps; I bought a $79.00 cheap "direct-to-digital" tape player that connects directly into a USB port. I'ts made by a company called Ion. Possibly, you muted your sound? In win 7, try this: windows key simultaneously with R to get to the Run Dialog. Type sndvol and press enter. This brings up your volume mixer. Tab once to the mute speakers button. Press the spacebar. Does this bring back your sound? If so, you can just close the app with alt-f4. If not, then press spacebar again as the first time you pressed spacebar would have muted your system. The mute button is a toggle. If you have JAWS 15 or higher you might have accidentally muted JAWS. The toggle is JAWS key, space bar, s. You might contact Microsoft Accessibility at at 800-936-5900. Perhaps with their help you could enable Microsoft Navigator. Do you have a back up screen reader like NVDA or SATOGO? If all fails and you can't get JAWS enabled/functioning call FS tech support tomorrow. I wish I had a more direct way. I can't remember how many times I have to tab, for example, to get to # start-up options or whether I have to up- or down arrow to get to the right one. Thanks. Re: [JAWS-Users] reccording to computer from tapes
Hi Theresa, Lots of questions. I would like to to digitalize my tapes, that is transfer thier content to my computer. I have got the windows sound recorder, but you can’t use it for long recording. I know some one wrote stepts to stretch time, but isn’t there another accessible recording software that would work? My laptop has only one conection for headphones, and not for microphone. As fas I I understand I would have to conect myy tape recorder to a microphone conection. How would I do this? I beleive I would have to change the headphone to microphone in control panel, but I don’t know how to do this. Lastly, a lot of my tapes are recorded in a four-track tape recorder which has broken down. I believe it is possible to record this tapes using an ordinary tape recorder and making the proper edition to four tracks once the content in in the computer. How can this be done? Thank you in advance. Best wishes for all, Teresa Arroyo --- Este mensaje no contiene virus ni malware porque la protección de avast! Re: [JAWS-Users] looking for mp3 merge
There is nothing wrong with the link in question, it is working perfectly. I know because every time something like this happens the first thing I do is test it myself. Re: [JAWS-Users] What To Do when JAWS Won't Start Up
Hi, Possible Problem Resolution: Try typing jaws then enter; if nothing speaks, try insert+Ctrl+j If still nothing, try typing jaws again, & hit enter. There have been times one of these attempts does resolve the Jaws problem, for me. [JAWS-Users] Anti-Virus
Happy Holidays All, I really need to update my virus protection, I am thinking about AVG versus Mal Ware Bytes. I have used AVG on old computers in the past and not sure what was on this computer when I purchased it last year but need something to protect this HP now. I appreciate your input.
