OK. Thanks for your input. I looked through my information at work and the
upgrade had already been ordered for me. However, I was not sent or did not
receive the new disk. I have asked the Help Desk to make the change on
Wednesday. I will hold my breath to see what happens.

Hi,
You are going to have problems with outlook if your are using Jaws 14, When
selecting from the selective contact list and the main contact list.
I used control + K to help select on a new mail.

And alt + Period to select from my main contact list, which is the same as
using control + shift + B.

I had called freedom about almost a year ago and they are not going to fix
this problem, but instead told me to upgrade to jaws 15, at the present time
anyways...

Hi JAWS 14 does not work very good with 2013.

I got 2013 when I received JAWS 14 and now I use JAWS 16 and it works
better. JAWS 15 worked okay and I did find it better then 14 and if you can
get them to update Jaws as it is not as friendly with 2013.

If you have any more question please ask.

I had a hard time using 2013 and use application key to find things in 2013.

Hope I have been some help but I know what you are up for good luck and talk

All,

This week, both laptops I use on a Federal job were finally upgraded to
Microsoft 2013. I am having problems with them both but one of them will
not acknowledge the alt key. Any suggestions on the problem?

Ironically, my personal computer was upgraded this year as well with little
problem. The circumstances were similar as the upgrade was from 2007 to 2013
in all three machines. The only difference is my personal computr has JAWS
15 and my work computers have JAWS 14.

I appreciate the responses.

Thanks,

Michelle

Re: [JAWS-Users] OCR on PDF

2015-02-10 Thread Dave Carlson
Trish,

In addition to the Openbook suggestion, if you have JAWS 16, you can simply
press the JAWS+Spacebar and then the letter O for OCR and then the letter D
for PDF. The convenient OCR will recognize the page, and it's pretty fast.

Then in the OCR viewer window, you can select all with Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C to
copy. Paste into Notepad to save the text.

Very convenient.

Here is a fix for the 64Bit iTunes that works. You will have to uninstall
iTunes first. There is an order in which iTunes should be properly
uninstalled. I will place that information below and place the link for the
fix afterwards.

Uninstalling iTunes

Steps

1.Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel.

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in
the following order. Then restart your computer.
1.iTunes
2.Apple Software Update
3.Apple Mobile Device Support
4.Bonjour
5.Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or only uninstall
some of them. Doing so might have unintended affects.

Before uninstalling go to the
your my music folder and open the iTunes folder
make a copy of the "iTunes Library.itl" file which has all the info of
where your media is located and paste it into another folder outside the
iTunes folder. Once you have reinstalled itunes copy and paste this file
back into the iTunes folder to replace what is there..

Hi All,

Please note I have edited the subject line to more clearly identify my
diversion below from the original thread.

I have experienced so many problems over the years using the Freedom Import
Printer, that I simply quit using it. As explained below, there is a
work-around that is actually much more direct and stable.

Instead of going through Adobe, open the PDF directly through Openbook.
You use the standard Openbook folder/file open command, control and o, or go
through the file menu. Although it might not be necessary, I would cursor
down in the file type box and pick PDF. Otherwise, the dialog boxes work
the same as for any Windows program.

The above eliminates all the hassle and potential crashes when using Adobe
and the Freedom Import printer. It also is much more direct.

If you want to make it even easier to use Openbook in this way, add Openbook
to the "open with" dialog box you can get to if you are in Windows Explorer
with your cursor on the PDF file.

Hi listers,

I wrote in last Wednesday regarding a problem with Chicken Nuggets but
received no response. I have partially solved the problem after uninstalling
Chicken Nugget and resetting my Twitter account. I am now able to tweet from
my Twitter account on the webpage and have reinstalled Chicken nugget but am
having problems with the reactivation. I can input my username and password
for the logon but think I need to enter the activation code but can see
nowhere to do this. Am also not sure whether or not to have checked the box
about entering my phone number, which may also need to be done again. II’m
using JAWS 12. I’d very much appreciate help with this as I find it awkward
to use the web twitter interface. Please feel free to contact me off list at
susan.wojtecki@gmail if you prefer. All help is very much appreciated.

2015-02-10 Thread Mike B.
Hi Trish,

To read the file using Openbook try the following:
1. Open the PDF file with Adobe Reader & press, Control + P, to open the
print dialogue.
2. With the print dialogue open, arrow down to, Freedom Import Printer,
in the printer selection menu & press enter.
3. Give Openbook a little time to open & start processing the file &
hopefully you'll be able to read the document.
HTH
Take care.

Absolutely not. The libraries are separate files and are
not impacted by the removal of ITunes and its components.
According to Apple Support, it is not necessary to remove
the older version or the defective one. All you need to do
is activate the special .exe file.

I followed their instructions and the results were
fantastic!
Please note. The fix also works for the ITunes store.

Here is a fix for the 64Bit iTunes that works. You will
have to uninstall
iTunes first. There is an order in which iTunes should be
properly
uninstalled. I will place that information below and place
the link for the
fix afterwards.

Uninstalling iTunes

Steps

1.Remove iTunes and related components from the Control
Panel.

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related
software components in
the following order. Then restart your computer.
1.iTunes
2.Apple Software Update
3.Apple Mobile Device Support
4.Bonjour
5.Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or
only uninstall
some of them. Doing so might have unintended affects.

Word 2010?

The difference is that when you use multiple presses of the enter key, you
can have stranded blank lines at the top of pages, which makes the text look
bad. The proper way is to set the Before or After spacing in the paragraph
dialogue box. Word will automatically put extra white space between
paragraphs. The best way I find to know when a paragraph change has occured
is to turn on paragraph marks and also use paragraph navigation commands.

like to adjust the paragraph settings. This drives me crazy as the only way

Re: [JAWS-Users] Making blank lines appear between paragraphs in Word 2010?

2015-02-10 Thread Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)
When in doubt, go to the paragraph menu. If you don't want to mess with the
ribbon, do Alt-O, P. The first tab tells all you ever wanted to know about
line spacing, both horizontal and vertical, and allows you to set new defaults.

As a screen reader user, I prefer to use the technique of pressing the Enter

In Word 2010, how does one make it so that there is a blank line between

Here is a fix for the 64Bit iTunes that works. You will have to uninstall
iTunes first. There is an order in which iTunes should be properly
uninstalled. I will place that information below and place the link for the
fix afterwards.

Uninstalling iTunes

Steps

1.Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel.

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in
the following order. Then restart your computer.
1.iTunes
2.Apple Software Update
3.Apple Mobile Device Support
4.Bonjour
5.Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or only uninstall
some of them. Doing so might have unintended affects.

In Word 2010, how does one make it so that there is a blank line between
paragraphs? (The default seems to be that - whatever adjustments you make to
line width, height, etc. - there isn't a blank line separating them (two
presses of the down-arrow key instead of just one like there was in previous
versions of Word [unless you changed that formatting]. Or, is that only
because that's how other people wrote their documents? (I'm quite new to
using Word 2010regularly.)

Hello Kevin,
Try Alt + p, SP.
This opens a window which has three tabs, Margins (the one you want), Paper
and Layout.
You can Ctrl + Tab between these three pages; you can use Tab to navigate
within each page.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Making blank lines appear between paragraphs in Word 2010?

2015-02-10 Thread Annette Carr
If I am not aware that a sighted co-worker has formatted the document to
automatically add the desired white space between paragraphs, I am not aware
that the white space is there and then I add a hard return which places too
much white space between the paragraphs.

As a personal preference, when I am editing someone else's work, I like
having the hard return between paragraphs so that I know the writer intended
a new paragraph. I do not like hearing JAWS say "Tab" when it is
encountered at the beginning of the paragraph.

As a screen reader user, I prefer to use the technique of pressing the Enter
key twice to place a blank line between paragraphs. However, sighted people
like to adjust the paragraph settings. This drives me crazy as the only way
that I have been able to figure out that they used this approach was to dig
through the paragraph settings. So when I am co-authoring a document with a
sighted co-worker, we have to agree on which technique we are using.

I'm not sure if Insert+F will give you information about the height of a
blank line. I never thought of using that command when I was dealing with
this problem.

Re: [JAWS-Users] problem with excel

2015-02-10 Thread John Justice
Jaws can be set to read the cells in many ways. There are specific settings
in the Quick Settings section.

1. While focused on Excel, press INSERT+V to open the Quick Settings dialog.
2. Arrow down to the beginning of the texdt or use the Search window and type
something like "read cell contents".
3. The easiest way is to press the letter T twice. That takes you to a
setting indicating that Jaws should read the cell contents.
4. Now use first letter navigation C, pressed twice.
5. You will be in the settings for cells. Here's the great part of Quick
Settings. If you aren't sure, just highlight a setting, then tab over and
there will be a text box explaining what each setting does. The text
explanations change, depending on which parameter you have highlighted
currently. Before doing anything, look through these.
6. You can try a change, make a note of it and then if you don't like the
results, open up Quick Settings again and try another setting.

Excel settings for Jaws are quite extensive. I suggest you figure out what you
want to do and then try to find the setting that makes Jaws do that. Reading
cell contents is one of those settings. You can also have Jaws read the column
or row settings in Excel but that's for another message.

I double enter if the document is single-spaced. Back in typing class, we
were taught extra paragraph separation is unnecessary with double-spacing,
used in most formal manuscripts. If I'm not mistaken, this is even covered
under formatting in Word, where it can be done either automatically or
manually.

I think often that the blank line isn't what they want. One press of the
ENTER key tells Microsoft Word that it is to begin a new paragraph, and it
adjust the line and spacing between lines heights the text accordingly. One
would have thought however that a blank line between paragraphs would make
editing and drafting documents easier.

I'm not sure if Insert+F will give you information about the height of a blank
line. I never thought of using that command when I was dealing with this
problem.

HTH,
Annette

In Word 2010, how does one make it so that there is a blank line between
paragraphs? (The default seems to be that - whatever adjustments you make to
line width, height, etc. - there isn't a blank line separating them (two
presses of the down-arrow key instead of just one like there was in previous
versions of Word [unless you changed that formatting]. Or, is that only because
that's how other people wrote their documents? (I'm quite new to using Word
2010regularly.)

Control down arrow starts reading the next paragraph. If you don't start
pressing arrows for line by line reading jaws will read entire paragraph
without stopping until it reaches the next paragraph.

difference does it make how you get it?
