Anti virus applications dont always catch all malware.
Get yourself a decent malware scanner as well.

Also go to control panel internet options advanced tab and press the
reset button and follow the wizard to reset internet explorer.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will go ahead and do an extra scan

For the last few weeks I have been getting a bunch of crazy gibberish
when opening up certain webpages. It's always the same and I can't
tell you what it's saying, but it sounds like some alien language. I
tried to copy and paste it, but I cannot. It lasts for three or four
lines, usually at the top of the page, but sometimes it will show up
again in the middle of the page.

I am using IE 11 with JAWS 14 and 15. Does anyone have any ideas as
to what this could be and how to get rid of it?

Thank you.

There is no answer to this issue. Microsoft cannot say why this happens
to some computers, nor can any other technical support group that I have
spoken to about it. The best thing that I found to help the problem is
to get an external hard drive, and move all of my media, documents,
etc., anything that is not required for the computer to operate, to the
external drive.
This greatly increased the amount of free space on my internal drive,
and let the computer run much smoother with less freezes or other
problems. You can pick up a good external drive on Amazon or eBay for a
good price, and a
500 GB drive would probably do for most people.

Re: [JAWS-Users] internet security suite

2015-05-12 Thread jim

Follow up to mcafee web advisor:
Look in the toolbar menu of I e 11, and you should see the following:
Mcafee site advisor toolbar checked.
if you do not see this toolbar for mcafee there, do the following.
You could try uninstalling, mcafee web advisor.
Now after removing it, restart your computer.
Open up the mcafee program.
Go to, web and email protection.
Arrow down to, where it says, site advisor live, available.
Press enter on that, and follow the rest of the steps from the mcafee
window.
Now when you are done with that, the next time you open I E 11, you should
get a notification asking you to activate the mcafee toolbar. ALT+n, tell it
to allow the toolbar and you are done.
Your safe search bar and web site protection will be active.
Unlike previous versions, we can not read, the color advisories, but my wife
tells me they are still there.
if you try to go to an unsafe site, you will get a web page from mcafee
saying.
Wo, are you sure you want to go to that website, proceed or cancel,
something to that effect.
I hope this helps...

Hi Miriam,

Does Jaws show in the system tray? If not this is probably why the
keystroke, Insert + J, isn't opening Jaws options. Try the following to get
Jaws to run from the system tray:
1. Alt + Tab to the Jaws window.
2. Press, Alt + the letter O, to open Jaws options.
3. Press enter on, Basics.
4. Tab to, Run JAWS from System Tray checkbox not checked, press the
spacebar to check this box.
5. Tab to, Okay, press enter to save your change close Jaws options.
6. Restart Jaws or your computer for the change to take place.

when I go to the links list, Jaws is only reading the first letter of the
name of the link. It does that occasionally and I find that if I turn Jaws

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws menu

2015-05-12 Thread Kimsan Song
It's in the start up wizard option under help in the second window
that appears.

If you have jaws 16 on your desktop, press enter on it and a context
menu will appear. Up arrow until you arrived to the help submenu, use
the down arrow to get to start up wizard and press enter. Tab to the
next button, spacebar there, and then tab until you hear the option
run jaws from system tray and press spacebar to check the box.
Tab to next, the next window tab to next until you see finish.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Explorer Locks

2015-05-12 Thread Mike Boyd
There is no answer to this issue. Microsoft cannot say why this happens to
some computers, nor can any other technical support group that I have spoken
to about it. The best thing that I found to help the problem is to get an
external hard drive, and move all of my media, documents, etc., anything
that is not required for the computer to operate, to the external drive.
This greatly increased the amount of free space on my internal drive, and
let the computer run much smoother with less freezes or other problems. You
can pick up a good external drive on Amazon or eBay for a good price, and a
500 GB drive would probably do for most people.

Hi,

You will want to open the Run dialogue box by pressing the Windows logo key
+ the letter R. then type in sfc /scannow without the quotes of
+ course,
and the system file checker will start scanning your Windows files for
missing and corrupted files. It should take less than an hour for the scan
to run, and at the end, the scanner will report the system's status to you.
It will say that:

1. There were no corruptions found,
2. That there were corruptions found and fixed, or 3. There were Corruptions
found, but they could not be repaired.

If the latter one appears, you would need to run a repair on your Windows,
using either a repair or the installation disk, and you will probably need
some sighted assistance, as you have to boot into safe mode to accomplish
this.

[JAWS-Users] Final Notice To All Members

2015-05-12 Thread Moderator

It would be in the best interest of everyone to read all messages in a
thread completely before posting any responses!
David has already said to discontinue the thread of the future of Jaws!
This means exactly what it says, which includes members telling other
members to stop posting about it,
and you folks that are doing that know who you are, so I won't mention any
names.
Telling members not to post is not the place of any list member, it is the
place for the management team alone.
Telling others to stop, just continues the thread, so please do that on your
own time, in private
and let's abide by the wishes of the list owner.
Members who insist on continuing with this will be removed without further
notice if that is what it takes.
Thank you,

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws menu

2015-05-12 Thread Mike Boyd

LeDon,

Here's what happened when I tried it. JAWS still started at the log on
screen and after start up. However, once the computer had booted up, the ALT
+ Tab function did not work, and I could not alt tab from open program to
program. I had to use the Windows key + D to get to the desk top, and
sometimes I would be on the desktop and not know it. Only by pressing the
first letter of the name of one of my shortcuts did I realize that I was on
the desktop. I can tell you, running JAWS from the system tray is not for
me.

It's in the start up wizard option under help in the second window that
appears.

If you have jaws 16 on your desktop, press enter on it and a context menu
will appear. Up arrow until you arrived to the help submenu, use the down
arrow to get to start up wizard and press enter. Tab to the next button,
spacebar there, and then tab until you hear the option run jaws from system
tray and press spacebar to check the box.
Tab to next, the next window tab to next until you see finish.

 Subject: [JAWS-Users] jaws menu

I'm using Jaws 13 and I wanted to get to the menu with insert J. It
isn't working. I wanted to turn Jaws off temporarily and turn it on
again because when I go to the links list, Jaws is only reading the
first letter of the name of the link. It does that occasionally and I
find that if I turn Jaws off and then on again, the problem is solved.
But now insert J isn't getting me to the menu. If I go to Jaws 13 on
the desktop and press enter, nothing happens either. Does anyone have
 any suggestions?

[JAWS-Users] MS outlook 13 help

2015-05-12 Thread Tamera
Might be I need the contact for paid tech help.. but a few weeks ago, using
W8.1, JAWS 16 and outlook 13..

I was changing some passwords and not sure if it was when I added my Gmail
account, had not, my outlook 13 got corrupted or something.

I now have like my first Comcast emails, but they won't show in accounts to
delete, so when I add again I now have one called x...@comcast.net
mailto:x...@comcast.net 1 and now emails come into that, but the old one
sits idle. Also looks like somehow all my go out from my live.com email,
which I added around same time.

Help appreciated!

Personally I feel that this might just be a moot point as the saying goes.

In the past 18 and a half years give or take JAWS has gone from version 2.0
to 16. Honestly I don't believe any of us on here will much care or be alive
for the next 84 versions of the software. Certainly this list won't be still

Hi Fred,
Uninstalling IE will not make the difference, as you stated your problem is
with Windows Explorer.
The problem with Windows Explorer and Jaws was present before Internet
Explorer 11.
See Mike B's earlier message for the possible fix.

Tomorrow's another day, another way!

I believe I am having the same problem. Jaws will suddenly state that
windows explorer has stopped working. SometimesI can get it working again
but much of the time I have to reboot. I am thinking of unstalling IE 11
and going back to IE 10 and maybe try reinstalling Ie 11 later. Can
someone tell me if I uninstall Ie 11 will I automatically go back to IE 10?
I think so but I want to be sure.

Lately, when I have been using Jaws 16, when I got into something like Drop
Box, open a folder and arrow down, everything locks up.

It has become so bad that I have to use another screen reader. I would
rather use Jaws. But, it is just too frustrating to use Jaws.

I have read all kinds of reasons for why windows Explorer can lock up.
But there doesn't really seem to be a reasonable fix for this issue.

I hope that someone might be able to help solve this problem.

[JAWS-Users] internet security suite

2015-05-12 Thread anna vimini

Thanks Jim for your help
Re: [JAWS-Users] internet security suite
As far as I can guess that is correct.
I am still using mcafee total protection, I just uninstalled the safe
search part of it for now to trouble shoot how it is with it being
uninstalled and

then I will reactivate it.

Hi Jim,
Let me see if I understand you correctly.
So what you are saying is that the tool bar does not appear in the view
menu of internet explorer because it is built right into the McAfee
internet security program?
Re: [JAWS-Users] internet security suite
As far as I know, it is some how built right into the McAfee interface now.
For now I have uninstalled it, until I figure out if it plays well with
jaws 16.

Ted,

yes, www.videolan.org has the latest VLC Player. In its latest incarnations it
isn't the most accessible program you ever clapped ears on, but it does produce
good sound (when you get it playing). Some portals are now using it to play
radio streams, for example, www.reciva.com , and that interface, though
perhaps a bit clunky, is accessible.

I'm glad to know WMP still works under Windows 8. I understand Ms has
discontinued the product. Anybody using the latest VLC yet? I'm anxious to get
my hands on a copy.

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have a list of the WMP; shortcut keys they might share?
I am using Windows 8.1 64 bit, with JAWS16 latest update.

I know that control P will pause/play a file.
Control S is a full stop.
I suspect there are others.

Thank you for any help.

Pauline

I would hope by that time that whatever computing devices we are using
will just be accessible, without any need for added products to make
them so. Thus my hope is that eventually there will be no need for a
product like JAWS, or that JAWS will simply be incorporated into the
operating system.
