Re: [JAWS-Users] Up grading Word?

2015-07-20 Thread Michael Boyd

You could purchase just Word
2013 as a self standing piece of software, but you would come out better in
the end if you purchased an Office suite. You could get the Home and
Student version which will contain Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and One Note for
a little over $100. Word by itself will probably cost you this much, I have
not checked in years, but the last time I did, the different Office
softwares as stand alone applications were running $99.99 each. Then there
is the Office 365 route. This is Office 2013 sold on a monthly subscription
basis. You will always have the latest version updated automatically, and
for $6.95 per month you can get the personal version which will include
Word, Excel, and I believe Powerpoint and maybe Outlook? but I am not sure
about this one, but you do get 4 of the Office software packages with this
subscription. To subscribe to this, go to www.office.com, and sign into your
Microsoft account, and there will be an option to purchase Office 365 on the
page somewhere. If you decide to purchase an Office suite, then you will
find better deals on the internet or maybe at one of the chain type office
supply stores. Try www.softwareking.com.

I unchecked that box because although some people need to open it in their browser for better performance when printing I do not currently own a printer and I find this option works better for reading with Jaws and documents. Most of the documents I have been working with have a lot of pictures but I will see if I can find one that is definitely full page graphics.

Is there something special you have to do to get the Reader DC to work? I tried it and couldn't get JAWS to read anything. The same document worked fine in the old version of Reader, so it wasn't an image only pdf. I'd be willing to try this again if I could get it to work?

Adobe DC latest build works very well with Jaws sixteen. You may wish to go to
the Adobe website and make sure you are running the latest version. If you
already have Adobe digital Reader installed you may want to make sure it is up
to date since they recently updated it only a couple of days ago and made some
major improvements to accessibility.
I recently bought a piece of technology and went to the website where it was
made and downloaded the User Manual today and read it without any issues at all.
One thing I generally do that I understand can be helpful is when I do the
initial accessibility setup, Is I uncheck the box for Open document in web
browser. While this is a personal preference I find that it often works better
for me if I open it in the Adobe program than in Internet Explorer 11 which is
the browser of choice for me.
Hope that helps.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Digital Editions: JAWS doesn't see the
screencontent

Hello!

I installed Adobe Digital Editions version 4.0.3.0. It seems that JAWS
doesn't see the content of the screen.

I can open the sample ebook, "Getting started with Adobe Digital
Editions 4.0", but there is nothing on the screen that JAWS can see.
The only chance to read something wit the JAWS cursor is to use OCR
(Insert+Space o w). I can tab through various buttons and my speech
synthesizer speaks the button texts. They are also visible on my
Braille display. But JAWS 15 (or 16 as well) doesn't see the book
content. Insert+F says "No font" everywhere, even in the Item info box
(Ctrl+I).

A sighted person said that everything on the screen seems to bee OK.
NVDA seems to work quite well with ADE, so the problem has something
to do with JAWS, perhaps with its video intercept.

I have reinstalled video intercept. I also tried Adobe Digital
Editions version 3. But the problem is the same. I have changed
Windows themes and screen resolution — JAWS behaves always in the same
way.

I have Windows 7 32 bit, JAWS 15.0.12085 and a demo version of JAWS 16
with latest updates.

My display adapter is Intel G41 Express Chipset (WDDM).

Any ideas? What could I try next?

I'm talking about Adobe Digital Reader (ADE), which can be used for reading DRM
protected EPUB files. Of course it works with PDF's too. What is Reader DC?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Digital Editions: JAWS doesn't see the screen content

2015-07-20 Thread Harri Tuominen

For some reason my previous replies didn't get to the list.

I have downloaded and installet Adobe Digital Editions version 4.0.3.0. Is this
the latest version? I haven't found any updates yet.

I have heard that some people can use ADE with JAWS succesfully and some don't.
In my case it could be a display adapter incompatibility problem. Perhaps it
has something to do with the video intercept, I don't know. I reinstalled the
video intercept but it didn't solve the problem.

OCR'ing the window in JAWS is the only way to read something from the book
content.

You can also open the Home tab, tab down to Unblock, press enter on this,
then tab to apply, then OK. Your document will now not open in protected
view.

Re: [JAWS-Users] printing from the internet.

2015-07-20 Thread Michael Boyd
He should be able to do this, however, as a work around, he could highlight
the lyrics, copy them, and paste them into a text document or a word
document. Not being able to print from the web could be a browser setting
that is misconfigured or it could have something to do with the website
itself. Has he tried printing from other web pages? I almost always use the
copy and paste method so I can get rid of the formatting sometimes copied
with the information that I want, plus I can then save the information in a
format other than html.

Hi Kimsan,

Are you navigating through all the desktop icons 1 by 1, or by first letter
navigation? If you're using 1st letter navigation, the shortcut may not
start with the 1st letter you're using. Try navigating with the arrow keys.

2. SHIFT+TAB to the Options menu
3. Press Enter to open that menu

5. Tab to Okay and press Enter

Re: [JAWS-Users] printing from the internet.

2015-07-20 Thread Dave Carlson
Printing direct from web pages can be hit-and-miss, even if IE is already
set up with the printer as default.

Unless the web page has its own "Print" button, often a simple Ctrl-P will
result in less-than-expected results.

One result is that the headers and footers will only print, or that some
text on the page prints while others will not.

Perhaps what is being "seen" is graphics, which may not be treated as
printable by the drivers.

One way around this is to select the entire web page with Ctrl+A and then
copy with Ctrl+C. Then open Notepad and paste into the blank area.
Formatting may be messed up, but often this is the most reliable way to
first see what will be printed and then to print.

  Removing KB3035583

To remove KB3035583, first open Windows Update and click "Installed Updates"
  in the bottom-left corner.
To quickly find KB3035583, you can sort by name. Once you've located it,
  right-click and choose "Uninstall".
When you select to uninstall this update, you'll be asked to confirm and
then you will need to restart your computer.
Once your computer restarts, the "GWX.exe" and its associated "GWXUX.exe"
applications will be removed and the system tray icon and resulting dialog
  will go away permanently.

  If the Icon Returns
Some readers have noted that KB3035583 returns if you don't hide it. If you
have Windows updates set to download and install automatically, this means
that if you uninstall this update, it will be reinstalled automatically a
  few days later.
To hide the KB3035583 update and prevent it from being reinstalled,
right-click on it in the Windows Update application and select "Hide
  update".
After, the update's selection box will be grayed out and cannot be checked.
From hereon, the update will be hidden whenever you reopen Windows Update
unless you decide to restore it.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Fw: the get windows 10 appears on my system tray

Hello David,

I found this update had already been installed on both my laptop and Dell.
I followed pretty much your instructions here, and have removed it.
First, thanks for these steps.
Second, if someone has this update still on their systems and not removing
it, will window's 10 automatically be installed?

Thanks for any help regarding this matter!

For me it worked very well with all the documents I have tried so far. Although
I was pretty tired last night and I apologize if I mixed up Adobe digital
Edition the book reader at any time with Adobe document cloud the replacement
for Adobe reader X and so on. I did not mean to cause any confusion on or off
the list.
When I went through the Accessibility Setup at the beginning I accepted all the
default recommendations except on Screen four where it asked me if I wanted to
Open the document in my browser. I unchecked that box because although some
people need to open it in their browser for better performance when printing I
do not currently own a printer and I find this option works better for reading
with Jaws and documents. Most of the documents I have been working with have a
lot of pictures but I will see if I can find one that is definitely full page
graphics.

Is there something special you have to do to get the Reader DC to work? I tried
it and couldn't get JAWS to read anything. The same document worked fine in the
old version of Reader, so it wasn't an image only pdf. I'd be willing to try

2015-07-20 Thread Harri Tuominen

I think I have the latest version installed. It is 4.0.3.0.

Perhaps this is a screen adapter issue. The sample ebook, which came with the
program, doesn't open at all in JAWS. OCR'ing the window is the only chance.
