Re: [JAWS-Users] upgrading to windows 10
Nice, Ed. You put everything into one succinct package. Kevin mentioned one additional issue. The Windows 10 e-mail client was written using the same language as Edge. It will not work well with jaws. You can, however, use an already existing e-mail client in lieu of the one built into Windows 10. Well done, Ed. I believe that your message alone will give anyone the tools they need to complete this job. Tip, after running the F S tool on your w-7 computer, any time you restart your computer, you will get a message from Jaws saying:. The mirror drivers are configured incorrectly, press the spacebar on this message. In w-10, Jaws does not use the mirror drivers, that is the reason for this message. Next, Run the media creation tool. yes, for your users account warning. [JAWS-Users] UPGRADING TO WINDOWS 10
I got the Windows.ios file from the Microsoft website and placed it on my desktop. 1. Am I correct that I need to completely DELETE Jaws v17 and all its shared components first Your best course of action might be to go onto the Freedom Scientific web site and download the instructions along with a special file which will assist you in making the transition.? 2. If I start narrator in Windows seven will Narrator talk me through the installation process? Yes, at least for the most part. Narrator in later versions after Windows 8.1, is an excellent voice over tool. However, initial stages of the conversion to Windows 10 will not talk. It might be advisable to request direct assistance from the Microsoft Disability Support Desk. 800-936-5900 3. When my sighted friend was showing me his windows 10 computer when narrator started running I heard something about screen reader users might want to switch to Internet Explorer instead of using Edge I think it is called. Is this still true? Yes. As of this time, Microsoft Edge does not talk using Jaws. That is an ongoing issue which is being worked on by both Freedom and Microsoft. I believe that a solution will be found shortly. In the meantime, switching to Microsoft Internet explorer is the correct alternative. 4. Is there anything else I should consider when upgrading that I have not mentioned? I recommend that you join the Windows 10 and Jaws e-mail list, at least temporarily. Jim has quite a few instructional files which you will find most useful. He stores them on One Drive and will provide direct access on request. You will find the direct submission link in another message on this list. Good luck, Sir. I believe that you will find Windows 10 an excellent choice. I have the X220 running Windows 7 Pro and it works great with Jaws 15. I purchased it used about a year ago. Re: [JAWS-Users] Touch vs non-touch screen notebook computer
If you have a computer with a touch screen, you don't have to activate the touch cursor. Putting your finger on the screen automatically allows you to explore by touch. To activate an icon you are touching, you do a double tap. This concept will be familiar to iOS and Android users. If you are using the keyboard with the touch cusor to mimic touching the screen, pressing the spacebar or enter will activate the icon. Note that on Windows 10, using the touch cursor with the keyboard isn't terribly reliable. Also, I find double tapping, and the flick and swipe gestures to be more fiddley than they aught to be. That fs cast really does explain a lot, as do the built-in JAWS help files. Good luck!
