you are opening a pdf file. if you are trying to save the file open a context menu on the link and use save as to save the file to your drive. *** usually if you close the adobe reader it will go back to a blank web page. but you would still be in your browser. sometimes alt left arrow will take you back a page where you were before the file downloaded. -Original Message- From: Laura Richardson Sent: Saturday, November 25, 2017 11:13 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Web site message Hello, When I went to a web site I got the following message: Infer reading order from document (recommended) Left- to - right top - to - bottom reading order Use reading order in raw print stream There is nothing to click on .. [JAWS-Users] J2018 problem while updating
Hi, I installed jaws 2018 from the disc and it went great. When, I went to check for updates, after I tab to the yes button to allow Freedom to make changes to my pc, about a minute later my pc shut down / crash, so I tried it again with the same results. Is anyone having this issue? I think, I'll settle for the way jaws is running now, with NO update and enjoy it. I didn't use the link Mike posted. Dear List: Thanks to those replying to my queries. How do I reply to someone on the list without it going to the entire list? I cannot figure how to read the sender's email address character by character so I can replace the group address with the single person's address. I tried an alt-enter to get to properties, but it must have been the wrong properties because it only had the general tab in it. Would you please tell me the keystrokes involved and where each step should take me to get to those address headers. Thanks. Re: [JAWS-Users] Touchpad is Turned Back On
Hello Annette this has happened to me for 3 yeares now on my HP Laptop. This is a touch pad driver issue. I googled it and for me it was just a matter of reinstalling an older driver. But each time i do this and recieve windows updates it just updates again. It drives me crazy. So now i just type in the start menu and type mouse then it comes up with changing mouse settings. So i click that one and just go in to the touch pad software and disable it each time i boot up. I have tole thems about this in the windows feedback but no fix as yet. [JAWS-Users] Save As Dialogues New & Old Formats, Solved
Hi All, A week or 2 ago I asked how to get my old save as dialogue back because somehow it had changed to the new dialogue, & I knew it wasn't from an update. Well, I found out today how it happened. The culprit was me & a program called Classic Shell! LOL Anyways to cut a long story short, I've been using Classic Shell ever since upgrading to Windows 7 from XP, & never knew just what all the program would change until I disabled it on this computer. Today I reenabled Classic Shell, & woe & behold the old save as dialogue was back! My apologies to anyone I ruffled the feathers of in trying to find out how I could get the old save as dialogue back. Classic Shell is the answer in the Explorer settings of the program. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] can pdf be made to be more readable?
Ted, As you probably know there are several levels of PDF, in terms of sophistication and readability. As some would say, "there is PDF and there is PDF." The IRS has always had the very best in PDF documents. As not many people have Abbyy Finereader or Adobe Acrobat, your thought about using Word 13 or 16 to convert the PDF to Word is probably the best solution. I'm running JAWS 18 on a Windows 10, 64-bit machine. Last week, my Firefox was updated to the Quantum, version 57, release. As has been discussed on this list, there are issues with accessibility with this version of the programme, and although I found it worked *almost* fine with NVDA, it did not work at all with JAWS, which I'm not entirely ready to give up using or anything. So, I decided to switch to the 52 (ESR) version, as recommended by many people and accessibility blogs. Instalation seemed to go fine, but I found that although I could go to a website without problems using ctrl-l, and sometimes search for something on that site, links would not activate with the enter key-press. JAWS definitely recognises that a link is there and I think the cursor is in the right place. I can also activate the links using the context menu, in a new tab or window. But enter simply does nothing. Another weird thing I noticed is that when this is happening, alt-f4 will not close firefox, and I must do it with the programme's menu option. I uninstalled Firefox altogether this time, as the first time I just tried to install v.52 over v.57 without uninstalling the programme, which is *supposed* to work. But starting fresh is sometimes good, right? Well, to my joy, the programme (firefox) seemed to be working great for a couple of days. This afternoon though, when I loaded the browser to check the mobile facebook site, once again, links would not activate with the enter key and the programme wouldn't close normally. I'm not positive these two things are related, but thinking about it now, I almost always close programmes with alt-f4 and I'm quite sure this is how I always closed firefox until now. Anyone have any clues as to what the devil might be going on? I'm going to have to switch permanently to Chrome if this keeps up. I even went to internet Explorer for a bit, but a lot of sites I go to regularly, like goodreads.com, simply do not work properly with that browser anymore, and it's very definitely being phased out by mS in favour of Edge, so I'd rather just put it to sleep permanently. Firefox has been my go-to browser for years anyway and I don't think I've ever had any issues like this, until now. Thanks. Thanks. [JAWS-Users] Calendar reminders
Hi all, I am using win 8.1, Outlook 2010 with a gmail account. I am having reminders of garbage money making appointments coming up as reminders and they are in my calendar also. These are from spam emails that I have never even opened and I am wondering how I can get rid of them? There are 10 to 14 in there daily. I am afraid to do anything but dismiss all reminders because I don't want to get my computer infected with someone's crap. I would appreciate any ideas on getting rid of this stuff. Just to note; I have never messed with the calendar so don't know how to use it. This might just be a simple solution, but don't know.
