[JAWS-Users] Instacart

2018-03-02 Thread Michelle Clark
I hope this is an appropriate topic. I am trying to sign up for Instacart
for my food shopping needs. The website is slow and does not work all that
well with JAWS.

I thought the problem was my system until I tried it at work with the same
result. Any thoughts?

At home, I am on JAWS 17 and Windows 10. At work, I am not sure as I am
working at someone else's desk while I am supporting another office.

Re: [JAWS-Users] I wont to change the star Punctuation to say something else

2018-03-02 Thread Adrian Spratt
Robin, no question, JAWS has made what used to be a simple task difficult, and
I have no idea why. It would help if you explained exactly what you want to do.

Meanwhile, first, you can select "punctuation" in the JAWS quick settings
dialog. I realize this isn't exactly customizing punctuation, but maybe
changing this setting when you go to that application will give you some
flexibility.

Second, David Ferrin, one of this list's moderators, posted instructions a
while ago that just might help, even though at first they might seem only
indirectly related to your query. My guess is to skip the "navigate to default"
step:

Assigning A Keystroke To Adjust Punctuation On The Fly.
1. Press, Insert + F2, to open the Jaws Manager.
2. Go to Keyboard Manager and press enter.
3. Navigate to Default, & then tab 1 time to get into the list of options.
4. In the Default keyboard manager list navigate to Set Punctuation Level If it
says none. That means there has not been a keystroke assigned.
5. Press the Alt key to open the menus, & right arrow to Action. Then down
arrow to Add Keystroke, & press enter. Or press control + A which is the
shortcut for assigning a keystroke.
6. Insert a keystroke combination like control + dash for example. If the
combination is already being used for another command jaws will tell you. Doing
this in the Default Keyboard Manager, allows this keystroke to be used in all
applications.
7. Tab to the Okay button, press the spacebar, then a dialogue will open asking
if you are sure you want to modify the default JKM. Press the spacebar on the
Yes option.
Now, every time you press the control + dash keystroke it changes the
punctuation level. So press the control + dash keystroke until you hear the
punctuation level you want.
If you ever want to change or remove the keystroke, simply repeat the above
steps.

Hi Matthew,

If you wanted to change this only temporarily, Press the, Insert / Jaws key

For permanent change:
1. Press Insert + 6, on the number row above the main keyboard to open the
Settings Center, & press, Control, shift, + D, to open default all
applications.
2. Arrow down to, User closed, right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to, Typing Echo, & press

the spacebar to toggle through your options, stopping on the option you
want.
4. Tab to, Okay, & press enter to save & close.

Hi, Folks. How do I get keyboard echo back to only echo words? For
some reason, when I updated to JAWS 2018.1802.7a, all I hear when I type
are punctuations, not the words. I'm also new to JAWS, and going

Hi Roger.

Yes, this was my conclusion as well. I personally feel this particular
implementation of keyboard shortcuts is great, and spoke very
enthusiastically about them to the developers. Now I realise I should
probably have done so with more caution. They are great, but they may not
work for everyone.

So you have no serious accessibility concerns, especially when compared with

I like the sound of the screen-shot scanner. Sadly the pro version is almost
twice the cost, although it does look like they sell the screenshot add-on

So far I haven't found a single person using a screen-reader and the latest

Hi,

I Love it, you can scan direct to Microsoft Word and there is a screen shot

You can right click a .PDF file and scan it direct in to Microsoft Word.

Hey. I'm looking into this software, and it seems useful and has a lot of
recommendations for its excellent OCR. It's also not too expensive in
comparison to some others I have seen. Does anyone here use it? Someone
commented that the latest version, 14, is not as accessible as version 12
was. Can anyone on the list confirm this and describe issues? Unfortunately,
the company does not seem to provide older versions on their site.

I prefer randomising the playlist in winamp with alt-shift-r rather than

I don't think there's a convenient shortcut for it by default. But yes, it's

(I like making random playlists too) is that I really only use VLC for
videos. Of course it's your choice, and it may make a difference to you that
VLC is still being updated. However, most new file formats are video, not
audio, formats. Another thing I value winamp over VLC for audio playback for
is the equalizer. VLC has one, but it's much less user friendly ... it's
very difficult to save your own settings. SO if you care about that, you
might want to consider this. However, for video playback, VLC simply can't

Some may remember I made several posts about how great this player was, but
that certain things, like the advanced preferences dialog, were difficult to
use with a screen-reader. I just want to report that I have installed the
last stable build, 3.01 I believe, and not only does the player seem at
least twice as fast to load on my Windows 10 64 bit machine, but the
preferences screen is reading properly with JAWS. The advanced preferences
now show as a tree view, and so far I no longer have to hit space on a
checkbox to even hear whether it is a checkbox or not. So, good news for
video users.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] VLC Media Player 3.0

Hey folks.

Do you know how this could influence her situation? I can't really see how.
The combination should not invoke or affect forms mode at all. It doesn't on
my system.

Hi everyone. Forgive the half-formed inquiry, but I'm about to have a
meeting about this and I don't yet have a lot of info. There's a website
being designed where the user can rate a series of statements on a
numerical
scale. The creators of the site designed it so that you can do this
directly

from the keyboard by using ctrl-key combinations from 1 to 5. So, for
example, the user might see a statement, and press ctrl-3 to give that
statement a rating of 3. Once the key bombination is pressed, the next
statement loads. This is something I have tested and works fine in both
Firefox and Chrome using JAWS 18. However, one of the testers is having
problems. The keyboard combos do not work at all. She is a JAWS user. I do
not yet know what browser she is using, but I'll shortly find out. I
looked

a little at a page describing how one can use JAVA to do this when
developing a site, but I myself am not a developer, and there's a lot I
could be missing. So, in brief, does anyone know if there are any caveats,
prerequisites and such, for these sorts of shortcuts on websites to work?
Is

there some setting in either a browser, or even in JAWS, related to this
functionality that she might have to change? I know it's not presently a
lot
of info to go on, but any help would be appreciated nonetheless. Thank
you.

Re: [JAWS-Users] VLC Media Player 3.0

2018-03-02 Thread JM Casey
Yes, but we are talking about VLC player random function, not winamp.

I prefer randomising the playlist in winamp with alt-shift-r rather than
using shuffle mode. The reason is that when using shuffle it's impossible to
tell what song has just played after it's moved on to the next one.

I use Winamp for this too. There is a random button in the playlist editor.
I don't think there's a convenient shortcut for it by default. But yes, it's
there. When I took a brief look last time when I had version 2.2.6 or
something, I could not get jAWS to find it, however. I will try again with
3.01 and see what happens. The reason I didn't fuss about this at the time
(I like making random playlists too) is that I really only use VLC for
However, for video playback, VLC simply can't
be beat. It's fast and extremely versatile. There's a lot of stuff under the
hood.

2018-03-02 Thread JM Casey
Hey jerry.

Isn't this something of an ongoing issue for you? Did you ever get your
external CD rom to be recognised for the other program (was there more than
one?) you were using?

You can find all disk options under "open disk" in the media menu. Looking
at it now, there is a series of radio buttons from which you can choose the
type of disk. This changes the playback options in the dialog box. There's
also a combo box that lets you choose a drive. I only have one CD drive, but
it should register any such drives plugged into your computer, external or
not.

The hotkey for the "open disk" dialog is ctrl-d. It's also accessible from
the media menu from the menu bar. If you have already seen that dialog and
looked at that combo box, and if it's only showing your internal drive --
then I guess your problem with the external and Windows is ongoing.

is the equalizer. VLC has one, but it's much less user friendly ... it's
very difficult to save your own settings. SO if you care about that, you
might want to consider this. However, for video playback, VLC simply can't
be beat. It's fast and extremely versatile. There's a lot of stuff under the
hood.

Hey folks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] VLC Media Player 3.0

2018-03-02 Thread JM Casey
I use Winamp for this too. There is a random button in the playlist editor.
I don't think there's a convenient shortcut for it by default. But yes, it's
there. When I took a brief look last time when I had version 2.2.6 or
something, I could not get jAWS to find it, however. I will try again with
3.01 and see what happens. The reason I didn't fuss about this at the time
(I like making random playlists too) is that I really only use VLC for
videos. Of course it's your choice, and it may make a difference to you that
VLC is still being updated. However, most new file formats are video, not
audio, formats. Another thing I value winamp over VLC for audio playback for

Sweet.

I like the sound of the screen-shot scanner. Sadly the pro version is almost
twice the cost, although it does look like they sell the screenshot add-on
separately?

So far I haven't found a single person using a screen-reader and the latest
ABBYY, version 14.

Hi,

I Use 11 Pro, I know that it is an old one but I got a really good deal with
the time.
I Love it, you can scan direct to Microsoft Word and there is a screen shot
scanner, this is only in the pro version though I think.

This sounds like the Webvisum add-on. I recalled going in and disabling some
settings as I only used it for the capcia stuff and didn't need the other
accessibility features. It may also depend on any other extensions you also
have running. NoScript can be pretty clicky too for example.

Fire Fox or must we just live with them. This has been true for a long time

Press alt-t for tools, then arrow up to Webvisum submenu. Press enter. Arrow
up or down through the options. I believe "sound" something or other
contains the option to silence this clicking.

I believe that the primary issue is that documents vary widely in their
accessibility. Do you know what program the documents were created in? It is
quite likely that the tool has features to make accessible documents; it's
just that they are probably not being used.
