Re: [JAWS-Users] Fwd: [SkypeWorldwide] Re: Problem with JAWS and Skype conference calls.
My apologies. I thought this was on topic as it related directly to a question asked on list. I did read the guide lines but obviously did not understand how they were applied. This shall not happen again. Re: [JAWS-Users] the latest version of skype
AS far as skype itself is concerned, no reason not to upgrade over 3.0. In fact, the audio quality is going to be slightly better in 3.6 as they have upgraded the codec used a few times since version 3.0. The scripts work as well with 3.6 as they did with 3.0. actually, the latest version added some functionality. if that is needed or not is a matter of preference. As for the latest revision of the scripts, version 618, i heard recently on another list that they supposedly cause crashes when in a conference call. According to the source, the script developer has been notified of this but has not withdrawn the script from circulation. i do not know if or how much is to that bug as I am not using the latest version of the scritps though I am running the latest version of skype. I will forward you the post about the crashes off list - or on second thoght post on here as it is jaws related. Good luck and happy skyping. Re: [JAWS-Users] sygate problem
The only thing Sygate would interfere with with any browser coming up is if the browser is being blocked from accessing the Internet. If your webpagecomes up, sygate's job is done. I wonder rather if you are having a an MSAA issue with jaws. I vaguely remember jaws 6.1 and 6.2 sometimes having some problems with MSAA, i.e. with programs that used the virtual buffer. Try unloading and reloading jaws and see if that fixes the problem. Also if you have an earlier version of jaws installed on your system (jaws 6.0 or older)still, try if you can read your webpage with that.Alternatively, you might want to get a copy of nvda and see if your webpage reads with that. I am sure that as long as your webpage loads, you are having a jaws issue and not a problem with sygate. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and recording software.
Any Recording software that lets you set your recording source or just uses whatever you enable in your recording control will do the trick as far as recording goes. If you want or need to edit the audio, you will need a sound editing program. For simple quick recording, i often use the recording feature in CDEx that can be accessed via the program's tools menu. CDex is is freeware and and accessible out of the box. Free mp3Recorder is another very simple recording software. TotalRecorder is an accessible low cost recording software that in the pro version even allows for simpler sound editing. If you want to edit your recording, Audacity or Wavepad are the free offerings I know of; Goldwave is an accessible low cost alternative. hth Doris At 08:51 AM 3/5/2008 -0500, you wrote: >Hello! [JAWS-Users] jaws and ITunes
I never thought I would use this but I have come upon some free content I am intersted in that requires ITunes to be installed on the computer to download and, I guess, access the content. I know that there are commercial jaws scripts for ITunes available but I do not see myself using ITunes a whole lot and certainly not enough to warrant purchase of scripts. There used to be free scripts for ITunes avaialble but the page gives a "404 File not found error". I am out of the loop with this some and would like to know if ITunes has become more accessible with jaws by now or if there are any free resources and/or hints to use ITunes with jaws without the aforementioned commercial scripts. Also, which version of ITunes is the most accessible and which will work with the free scripts if still applicable. Thanks very much. Doris "Pray, pray, pray!" - Pray without ceasing. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and Eudora.
Which version of Eudora? If you are using the original Eudora version from Qualcomm, version 7.1.09 or earlier, scripts are included by default in your install of jaws. If, however, you are using the Eudora beta under development by the Mozilla Foundation, you actually want to remove the Eudora scripts from your jaws script directory as they would interfere with Eudora 8 that is based on the Thunderbird mail client. hth Doris At 08:51 PM 2/28/2008 +1100, you wrote: >Hi just wondering if I need scrips for Eudora, I am using xp pro and >jaws eight. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws anouncing time/date constantly
What I do is to uncheck displaying the clock in the system tray altogether. I think this option is found in the startmenu/taskbar properties if I remember correctly. jaws's jawsKey+f12 announces the time regardless of whether or not the clock is displayed and any clock or chime scripts connected with jaws will work too. I have hid the clock ever since win 95 and actually when i was sighted still even because it is just one item less that clutters the system tray. hth Doris At 11:26 PM 2/27/2008 -0500, you wrote: >You could try building a frame around the clock and set it to echo none. >That might work, at least it's worth a try. >David Ferrin >[EMAIL PROTECTED] >- Original Message - >From: "Carlene Knight" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; >Sent: Wednesday, February 27, 2008 10:52 PM >Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws anouncing time/date constantly > > > > Hi: > > > > We have a new system at work that is internet based. Re: [JAWS-Users] OCR software
You should be able to set Open Book to use your DECTAlk for reading and I believe you also should be aable to turn off OB's self-voicing altogether. OB has a standard windows interface so you'd not have any trouble at all navigating it with jaws. I do not know about the U.S., but here in Europe older packages of software are often sold at much reduced prices thru some mail order outfits. You might want to google for "omnipage 15" and see if you come up with places selling it still. hth Doris At 06:33 PM 2/24/2008 -0500, you wrote: >Does anyone know where I could get a copy of OmniPage version 15? Depending on your needs, the diferent products from http://65.200.22.182/training/index.htm might also be an option. Text Cloner is a stand-alone ocr that will work with an existing screenreader to read documents While ScanAndRead and the Complete Reading Systems can be used in a self-voicing mode. These packages are made with the blind and low-vision user in mind but come at a much lower price than OB or K1k. Re: [JAWS-Users] OCR Software
My happy bias is with Abbyy Finereader Pro though I understand that version 9.0 while giving great ocr result is not suite as screenreader friendly as previous versions. The price for FR 9.0 is about Euro 150.00, which would make it very roughly about US$225.00 given the current exchange rate. If you have used MOmnipage befoer, this is said to give good accessible recognition also. If you have office xp or higher, it comes with some basic and accessible ocr built into it that gives surprisingly good ocr results. If you do not want to scan whole encyclopedias every day, you might want to try if what comes with office is not enough for your needs. Finally, several of my friends have k1k11 and love it but unless you're untitled to upgrade from a previous version, I just find it too expensive to justify. Just my twoEuro cents worth. g> Cheers, Doris At 07:33 AM 2/24/2008 -0700, you wrote: >Hi Folks, > >I am considering some kind of OCR software package and wanted to know which >ones worked best with JFW 8.latest, Windows XP-Pro and Office XP. > >TNX > >Larry >Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: >http://www.jaws-users.com >Address for the list archives: >http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com >To post to this group, send email to >jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com >To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to >[EMAIL PROTECTED] >For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the >subject or body of a blank message to: >[EMAIL PROTECTED] >Use the following form in order to contact the management team >http://www.jaws-users.com/managers.php >If you wish to join the Blind Computing list send a blank email to >the following address: >[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > > >-- >No virus found in this incoming message. >Checked by AVG Free Edition. >Version: 7.5.516 / Virus Database: 269.20.9/1295 - Release Date: >2/23/2008 9:35 PM "Pray, pray, pray!" - Pray without ceasing. Re: [JAWS-Users] keynote sa with jaws
Which version of jaws are you using? I noticed that jaws 8.0 sometimes reads some gibberish with my Keynote SA. (I am using the old original Keynote SA synthesizer.) For some reason, jaws 7.1, the version that introduced the native driver for the Keynote SA sytnhs, does not have that problem. If you still have jaws 7.1 on your system, make a backup of your jaws 8.0 driver for your keynote and then replace the drivers in jaws 8.0 with the ones from 7.1 and see if the problem goes away. I have not tried jaws 9.0 and do not know if it has the same problem with the driver that 8.0 did. if you are using a version older than jaws 7.1, you will need to get the jaws driver for your keynote from the humanware support pages i believe. hth Doris At 04:08 PM 2/20/2008 +, you wrote: >hi guys, i like to use my keynote sA, well, my braillenote as a >keynote Sa speech synthesiser. my problem is that keynote seems to >say strange u letter type things and occationally y diresees. do you >guys know why? >orhan deniz. >ways to contact me: >msn/windows live ID: >[EMAIL PROTECTED] >e-mail: >[EMAIL PROTECTED] >skype: >orhan.deniz63 >Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: >http://www.jaws-users.com >Address for the list archives: >http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com >To post to this group, send email to >jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com >To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to >[EMAIL PROTECTED] >For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the >subject or body of a blank message to: >[EMAIL PROTECTED] >Use the following form in order to contact the management team >http://www.jaws-users.com/managers.php >If you wish to join the Blind Computing list send a blank email to >the following address: >[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > > >-- >No virus found in this incoming message. >Checked by AVG Free Edition. >Version: 7.5.516 / Virus Database: 269.20.8/1289 - Release Date: >2/20/2008 10:26 AM "Pray, pray, pray!" - Pray without ceasing. Re: [JAWS-Users] dictionary for use with JAWS
The Franklin Language Master is a hardware device and can be used indepdendent of the computer and of jaws. You might get better information on that one on a more genral computer list. AS for an accessible dictionarly that can be used offline with jaws, I use - and have for years - the free Wordweb dictionary and thesaurus from http://wordweb.info/free/ If your student is set on paying for the app, there is a pro version that can be purchased and offers some extra features but the free version should be fine for a dictionary. hth Doris At 06:22 AM 2/19/2008 -0600, you wrote: >My student would like to purchase a dictionary to use with JAWS. Re: [JAWS-Users] accessible IRC clients
This wasn't the issue. I don't like jaws to be interupted by irc output when the mirc window does not have focus, i.e. when i have mirc open but multitask. I prefer having mirc output to sapi as that will alert me to chats and announcements while not interfering with jaws's reading. Thanks much. I appreciate you posting this. Since irc - with me using mirc for an irc client - was the first online community i experienced back in 1997 and since i lost my sight soon thereafter, I have tried to keep up with the different irc speech solutions. Fortunately, however, they have become so numerous that it is getting hard to keep up. Can mirc4life be made to output to sapi as an alternative to jaws and window eyes? I am thinking of users of other screenreaders here and also personally prefer to not have jaws interupted by irc chatter when I am multitasking. Again, Thanks very much. You may want to look at http://www.icedirc.com/downloads.php for example. also, googling for "accessible irc" will turn up quite a number of search results. If you want to use irc mainly for texting, Miranda IM is an excellent and accessible solution with the additional option of jaws scripts if desired. hth Doris At 05:06 PM 2/16/2008 -0500, you wrote: > Hi, all, >Does anyone know of an IRC client that works well with the latest >version of JAWS? Re: [JAWS-Users] accessible IRC clients
Ronolog is really really old technology by now. Ronolog acts as an interface to ms agent to output to speech. mirc has had this ability natively since version 5.71 which came out sometime in 2000. Only Potato's Listen2 script for mirc is an older speech solution for mirc than Ronolog was. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS on thumb drives
Usually leaving behind the intercept on the host machine should not inconvenience a sighted user. However, you need to log on as adninstrator to install the video intercept and if the owner of the computer is particular about you not leaving behind any traces of your use of their computer as some are -, you might fare better using SA2go if the machine has internet access or running the open source NVDA from your thumbdrive as either one leave nothing behind and do not depend on a video intercept and thus do not require administrator rights to install or run the program. hth Doris At 10:43 AM 2/14/2008 -0800, you wrote: >Hi > I have a question also. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS on thumb drives
No, you authorize the computer you are running jaws on with the ILM authorization for jaws not the version of jaws you are running. the ILM authorization key that is written to the hard drive on the machine you run jaws on is based on that particular machine's hardware configuration and changes in the hardware can even require you to reactivate jaws for the machine. If you want to use jaws on a thumb drive and have need to do this on many different computers, you should probably go with the dongle version that you can plug into any usb port on any machine you want to run jaws on and then your version of jaws is authorized to run as long as the dongle is connected to the computer you are working on. hth Doris At 11:47 AM 2/14/2008 -0600, you wrote: >Here's an odd, probably dumb question. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS on thumb drives
the thumb drive version is a full version of jaws minus support for hardware synths and brille displays and multiple user eettings. Whether it runs in 40-minute mode or as a fully authorized version depends on whether the computer you want to run it on has a valid authorization for jaws, either ilm or dongle. if you need to use jaws on the go a lot, you might want to get a dongle to carry with you to authorize jaws. hth Doris At 11:10 PM 2/13/2008 -0600, you wrote: >Hi my question is if you have Jaws on a thumb drive is it the full version, >or the 40 minute one? >Patti >- Original Message - >From: "Jeffrey Shockley" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: >Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2008 8:55 PM >Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS on thumb drives > > > > Hi, > > Version 7 is the only one for thumb drives that FS has released. > > You don't have to put any files on the computer, the only thing you have > > to > > do is download it (if you haven't already) and unzip it to your thumb > > drive. > > In order to use JAWS on a computer that doesn't have JAWS on it, and you > > want to use JAWS on your thumb drive, you will have to install the video > > intercept program for JAWS and Magic, (which you will have to download and > > put on your thumb drive and then run it on the computer or any computers > > that you want to use that version of JAWS on.) > > HTH, > > Jeffrey Shockley > > Check out my blog! > > The URL is > > http://jeffreyshockley.livejournal.com > > Check out my website! > > The URL is > > http://jawswizard.googlepages.com > > "You learn something new every day!" > > "You can do anything if you put your mind to it!" > > "It is not how we see that determines who we are. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS on thumb drives
When you go to the download page for the thumb drive version of jaws, it should list all the files you need. in addition to the jaws application for thumb drives itself, you need the installer for the video intercept and optionally, if you use a dongle to authorize your version of jaws, the sentinel dongle driver or whatever that thing is called. Both of those files are downloadble from the fs's website on the page for the thumb drive version. You can, in theory, use older versions of jaws on the thumb drive up to version 5.10 of jaws that installed to the root of the disk rather than into program files and the user's directory. You'd have to copy the installation directory of the jaws version you want to the root of your thub drive and then sstill cuse the video intercept installer for the thumb drive version of jaws above. i do not see any adventage in doing this though unless you still have a version of jaws that authorizes with the auth disk and want to carry your auth disk with you to authorize jaws from. If you just want quick and easy portable screen access and do not require a lot of fancy stuff, you might instead consider using nvda from a thumb drive or, if the computer you want to access has internet access, the new free version of sa2go. Neither of these necesitates instdalling video intercepts or authorization - or actually any files on the ost computer. hth Doris At 09:48 PM 2/13/2008 -0500, you wrote: >Hi, all, >I just got a 4 gig thumb drive and want to run JAWS from >it. Re: [JAWS-Users] New computer and getting demo sequence
What jaws license do you have and what version of the operating system in each case? My guess is that you have jaws standard and had xp home before and now have a version of vista that does not work with the standard version of jaws. HHowever, we need to know which jaws license and versions of windows you have and had to be more specific. IN the meantime, you ight want to try and put the free oepn source nvda on your system for non-expiring speech until you get your jaws license sorted out. Re: [JAWS-Users] question for a friend about using jaws 4.1 with adobie 7.0 to read pdf files.
There i sno jaws 4.1. There either is jaws 4.0.1 or jaws 4.5.1 if he is running jaws 4.0.1, there is a free upgrade available from FS's website to jaws 4.0.2, which is the first version of jaws to fully support Win xp. AS to scripts for Adobe Reader, they come preinstalled with jaws. the oldest version of jaws I keep installed on my box is jaws 4.51 and i remember having problems reading Adobe Reader 7.x under jaws 4.51. I have not tried transplanting scritps from a newer jaws version into an older one for Adobe Reader as often new jaws versions come with new functions not supported under an older jaws. hth Doris At 11:22 AM 2/5/2008 -0500, you wrote: >hi all.
