Re: [JAWS-Users] Direct Download Links & What's New For Latest Release J17.0.1377
Hi, I asked this in a previous email, but thought I'd ask it again here. The option to update just came on my computer, so I chose to do so. However, it said that it couldn't update the patch. And I hit OK. Once I did that, my computer has not let me navigate things. It talks, and will let me hit letters, but it's not navigating to anything on my computer. Any suggestions? Should I uninstall it completely and reinstall just the original Joss 17 cd I got in not do the updates? Re: [JAWS-Users] Today's JAWS update, Version 17.0.1377, what it does.
I tried to download the update, it look like it could work, but they gave me an error about the patch not downloading or something. Now my computer will talk, however, it won't let me navigate to things. It just says the letters I'm pressing that doesn't tell me anything. Any suggestions? Should I uninstall jaws and reinstall 17? Hi, I am not sure if you can do what you are wanting to do on Internet explorer. However, if you open the application in Firefox to begin with, you can use the web this some application that can be installed on Firefox. It will solve the captions for you. All you have to do is press the applications key, and arrow down to where it says saw the caption and it will do it for you. I hope this helps. Daciaweb visim is the name of the application. If you Google it, you will find it. It only works on Firefox. I have always recommended to my clients (both sighted and blind) that they wait at least until service pack one is released for any new operating system or major software package. It blows me away how many people want to jump right in to a new operating system (be it Microsoft or Apple) on the first day that it is released. And then for months, they bombard the lists with complaints about things not working as they expected. As I have said for more years than I care to mention, if it is doing the job that needs to be done, leave it alone. That is why I am still using Jaws 14 on my main desktop, even though I have the SMA to upgrade it. I did not like some of the issues I found with Jaws 15 and 16, and 14 is working just fine for me. Also, there are plenty of high-end Windows 7 laptops and desktops available from sources such as NewEgg and eBay, that can be purchased for a fraction of their original price. After reading The FS-Cast podcast and studying other informatory resources, I have reached the conclusion that Windows 10, at least in its original form, is not a good choice for those who use screen readers. Please note. Windows 10 is still a work in progress. Freedom Scientific will certainly keep tabs on things as they develop and make the necessary changes. THE EDGE WEB BROWSER: Microsoft has already made massive changes in this new web browser and they admit that it is not as good as was hoped. The software was designed like Firefox and Google Chrome but it doesn't function nearly as well as either of those programs. Unfortunately, it does not work well at all with screen readers. The Windows 10, scheduled for a release on July 29, is definitely not a comfortable fit for Jaws. THE NEW WINDOWS 10 CONFIGURATION: Microsoft has heard us and is trying to bring back the older configurations like Windows XP and Windows 7. According to an article published by Microsoft, their attempt to design a Start menu which worked well with smart phones and IPads, resulted in numerous complaints from PC users. The version of Windows 10 scheduled for release can give you a taste of what is coming but that too is currently in a fluid state. I asked a Microsoft representative why they are sending out a product which is still imperfect or incomplete. His response was, Look, we're going to hit most of our customers at home with this new software. Some will buy it because it is new. Our free upgrade will add many more customers to our list. What we're trying to do is get away from 8.1. We have had so many problems with that version of Windows. We almost had to do this to keep from losing too many retail customers to the Apple software. People like you and other customers who use screen readers or magnification are a tiny minority when compared to the rest of our customer base. That doesn't mean we won't work to fix these issues but we won't

Hi, I just recently got a Netflix subscription. I am trying to figure out how to navigate the video player with keyboard commands. I'm also trying to figure out how to turn on the audio description part for the shows that have it. All the instructions my friends and I keep finding, deal with using the mouse. Something I cannot do. Any help would be appreciated. Sent from my iPhone For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

The insert with F8 command is for the Global Outlook toolbar. However, there are a couple other methods you can use. I am using Word 2013 but I think the following information is the same for Word 2010 or at least very similar. One way that you can use to open a contact or insert an address from your contacts into a Word document is by using additional actions. Add an additional action: 1.Press Alt with F followed by Alt with T. 2.Press A until you get to the add-in category. 3.Tab until you get to the Manage add-ins box and arrow down to actions. 4.Tab to the Go button and use spacebar. 5.In the resulting window make sure the checkbox for enabling additional actions is checked. 6.Tab to the list of additional actions and use up or down arrow key between them. Use spacebar on the actions you want to use in the contextual menu. Check the address item. Using the spacebar selects or deselects an item in the list. 7.Use OK button until you are back in the document. Inserting an address from a contact using additional actions: 1. Select the name in your document. 2.Press application key and use up arrow to find the additional actions menu item. 3.Use right arrow key and then use down arrow key to find the insert address item and press enter key. The address should be inserted below the selected name in your document. A second method is to add the address book command to the quick access toolbar. 1. Press Alt F followed by Alt T. 2. Press the letter Q to move to the quick access toolbar category. 3. In the Choose Commands from box press A until you get to All commands. 4. Tab to the list of commands and navigate to the address book choice. 5. Tab to the Add button and use spacebar. 6. Use OK until out of the dialog boxes and back in your document. 7. You can then access the address book from the quick access toolbar. Use Alt and then use shift+tab until you find the address book choice and press enter key. You can also use Alt key with the number of the address book choice on the toolbar. For example, if the address book is the third item from the left on the toolbar then use Alt with 3. Take care. [JAWS-Users] question about Windows Updates
Hi, I currently have the settings set for the Windows Update to download the updates but let me choose to install them. I had it set at one point for Windows to download and install them automatically and it seemed as if everytime I would shut down my computer even if it was more than once a day there were always updates installing which slows down the process of the computer shutting down. Now that I've changed the setting to download them but let me choose to install them, I keep being told the same updates are available to download every day even if I've told it to install them. It does and says Windows installed new updates, click here to see which ones have been installed. Then a few minutes later it says there are new updates to install and when I check it out it's the same ones that said they'd just been installed. Are they not really installing or what? is there a setting I need to change? The checkboxes are checked for the updates I want to install. I have Windos 7 64 bit. thanks, Dacia For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
