Full screen takes off the menue bar and I believe the task bar. Once in a
while you find a web page that won't scroll and this allows more information
to be displayed on the screen. Some of the old chat clients were this way.
Full screen would allow more names to show in the list and also some links
that were at the bottom of the screen would appear.

In case anyone wants to know, if you replace the 5 numbers at the end of

Unless I am doing something wrong, neither f6 nor alt-d does what I
expect. Firstly, if I turn on keyboard help, neither f6 nor alt-d claim
to do anything. Secondly, when in internet explorer if I go to a page,
then hit alt-d or f6, it says, address edit. I do not see a URL at
that point. If I then hit control-c it says nothing is selected. If I
go to notepad and hit control-v, nothing is copied.

Also, if I look in the keyboard manager under either default or internet
explorer, neither alt-d nor f6 are defined as key strokes.

Hello there;

when you use, either, alt+d, or, the f6-key, there's no need to ctrl+a,
before you copy.

when you use either of the keystrokes, the text is already highlighted, so,
you just need to press ctrl+c=copy.

hope this helps.

Hi Dan,
after you press either the altD or the F6, try highlighting the line
using shift end and copying it. When I use either of these, JAWS says
address and the line is highlighted.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Snagging a URL

2011-02-09 Thread Rick Justice

Hi Dan,
It sounds like your address bar has somehow moved, and that is why it is not
performing as expected.

Try this:
1. While in Internet Explorer, go to the view menu, and then open the
toolbars sub-menu.

2. Arrow to, lock the toolbars, and if it is checked, uncheck it.
3. Route Jaws to PC, and then go to the top of the page, and then search
with the Jaws cursor until you find the word address.
4. With the cursor positioned on any part of the word, address, do a double
left mouse click.
5. Now, return to the PC cursor, and then try the F6 key to see if this puts
the URL into focus.
6. If this works, return to the view menu, and then the toolbars sub-menu,
and check, lock the toolbars.

If you cannot focus on the word address, you may need sighted assistance.
HTH,
Rick Justice

Re: [JAWS-Users] Snagging a URL

2011-02-09 Thread Dan Rossi

Rick has come closest so far. Thanks Rick.

Like I said, after I hit alt-d or f6, hitting control-c says nothing
selected If I then hit control-a and then control-c, it again says,
nothing selected. Trying to paste at that point is fruitless, since
nothing was selected. I have tried, and nothing pastes.

using the JAWS cursor, I can see the address, but need to click on it if I
want to select it.

I tried the instructions that Rick gave, and they worked, however, as a
test, I then closed IE, and tried again, and no joy. I got the nothing
selected warning again.

I will play around with this some more since it seems promising. But as
configured, alt-d and f6 do not work at all for me at this point in time.
Either my address bar isn't where something expects it to be, or some
other setting in IE is causing the address bar not to play nicely with
this keystroke.

Yes, address bar is checked in my view / tool bar menu.
