[JAWS-Users] goldwave

2018-02-11 Thread Kevin Lee
I recently had to do a reset of my windows 10, and after in my goldwave in the
control properties under the volume tab jaws announces blank.what made me look
at the volume was because I record using core audio wasapi and after I record I
don’t get anything when I play it back. I’m not sure but when I record I don’t
see the white sound lines when recording. Anyone know what could be wrong? If
I play a pre recorded sound it plays back fine as well as if I do a test of
play back in the play back tab.

[JAWS-Users] Goldwave Scripts

2017-10-27 Thread JM Casey
Hi everyone.

Just got the latest Goldwave version, 6.31. On my XP machine I believe the
latest version I could run was 5.6 or something like that. I did use the
scripts and while they were not necessary, they did add some extra
verbalisation that I thought was occasionally very helpful. I have found
version 2.0 of the scripts now, which claim to be for GW versions 5.66 and
later. Is this the newest script version? Will they function with JAWS 18? I
only ask that last question because I know at some point in the last few
JAWS versions they made some significant change to the way scripts operate
(at least, I remember reading this), and I'm not sure how they are on
downward compatibility.

Cheers.

Re: [JAWS-Users] GoldWave scripts

2016-07-08 Thread Mario
Reed, as far as I know, version 2.0 should work sufficiently. you can
hold down insert and press q twice quickly to open the information in a
virtual window where you can review the version, who came up with the
concept and the authors who contributed, although Jim makes the final cut.

the name of the scripts include a version of 5-6 but that is the version
of goldwave the scripts are for.

you can get the scripts from:

Kevin, in the edit menu, there is an insert silence item which adds how
long you specify to the beginning.

I've also been using GoldWave for several years but I always used Jaws
scripts. So, I thought I would give the program a shot without the scripts
since I was somewhat skeptical about its usefulness without the scripts.
However, I must admit using the program without help from Jaws on my initial
glance wasn't too hard. I particularly wanted to see if I would be able to
skip through a file by seconds, minutes, and hours and discovered it to be
easier than I thought it would be. I more than likely will still get some
scripts sooner or later but I am glad you gave me a challenge. Thanks much.

This listserv automatically strips HTML, rendering the received messages
in PLAIN TEXT only. Thus, your original HTML hyperlink couldn't be
transposed with just those words representing it. Therefore, the NEED
for its actual URL written out, to then make it CLICKABLE. Hope this

You didn't break any of the list rules, it's just like the other gentleman
said I have configured the server that manages this list to strip out HTML
code leaving messages to be delivered in text. This is in my opinion for the

Hi Inamuddin,

While a later message from me pointed out that you should disregard my message,
the fact is that the tutorial I posted was good enough to follow along with as
many of the topics covered in the tutorial are the same, no matter which
version of GoldWave you're using. Please notice that in my message I was
referring to many of the concepts in editing audio files, and, as I said, most
of the keystrokes are much the same, such as pressing alt+the numbers 0 through
6 to increase the zoom level, and placing start and end markers have not
changed between the GoldWave versions. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, most of
the keystrokes are the same, and only the menu structure has changed. Suffice
it to say, it's all a moot point as a new version of the GoldWave tutorial was
posted.

I am looking for tutorials for Goldwave. I went to the links on

the jaws-users archives and found tutorials Mike put on DropBox in March and
the link no longer works. Does anyone have a source for key commands and

Re: [JAWS-Users] Goldwave tutorials

2013-04-26 Thread Scorpio
Hi Wayne,

I have an older GoldWave tutorial on Send Space done by Dennis, also known as
Start Button, over back when he was on For The People, a voice chat community
for persons with a disability. I believe he has since moved on, and he does
have a webpage out there somewhere with a copy of his most recent tutorial for
GoldWave, but I just re-formatted my computer, and still haven't organized my
back-up files, but the tutorial I have uploaded is for Jaws 10 and GoldWave
version 5.25, or something like that.

In any case, what I'm trying to get at is that the steps and most, if not all
of the keystrokes Dennis uses in this tutorial are pretty much the same for the
current release of GoldWave, so give it a listen, and if I find the current
version of the tutorial, I'll post it up for you.

Here's the folder link:

http://www.sendspace.com/folder/f6r1i0

Let me know if you need anything else, or if you have any questions about the
tutorials.

By the way, I would highly recommend you download and install the current
version of the Jaws scripts done by Jim Grimsby, which David has up on the
Jaws-Users website for download.

Make sure you download the scripts for the appropriate version of GoldWave, or
some of the keystrokes won't work.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you the location of the Jaws-Users website, but
if you need that too, it's at the bottom of this message. Grins.

Hey Gang,
I just downloaded gold wave 5.65, on my windows 7, running jaws v13.
I put the scripts 5.7 in, but when I put the place markers down it says
nothing, and when I do a ctrl A it doesn't tell me how long the track is.

Does anyone have the scripts for gold wave 5.65?
Thanks for all the help you can give me.

Hi, Glad I could help.

For information I use jaws 12, goldwave 5.58. and the scripts are version
1.60. I think that there are some script versions that don't work well
with

some goldwave versions.

First, you need to install the scripts if they are not installed yet. you
can get them from
http://blind-geek-zone.net/Data/goldwave_5.57_jaws_scripts_1.60.zip

First, you have to open an audio file in goldwave and then explore all
the

script options. Insert+h is very helpful command.

Unfortunately here shift+numbers don't speak at all. But you can look in
the

view menu what part is shown on the window or even easier just press
alt+shift+z and you will hear the zoom level.

Goldwave has playback cursor and selection markers. There are two
selection

markers - to set the start and end point of the selection. Start point is
set by pressing [ (left bracket) and the end point is set by pressing ]
(right bracket). To understand how the software works you can read the
help

documentation by pressing f1 in goldwave or to listen to some tutorials
created by Rick Harmon here
http://blind-geek-zone.net/audio.htm

When you open the site, just search for goldwave or use h to go through
the headings.

Here is what insert+h in goldwave told me as an answer. I paste it here
because I believe it will help you understand the zoom better. The
commands you used as an example control the zoom level.

To zoom to see the actual waveform, Press Shift+1.
Note: in ratio, this level is presented as 1:1.
To zoom one second of audio, press Shift+2.
To zoom ten seconds of audio, press Shift+3.
To zoom one minute of audio, press Shift+4.
To zoom ten minutes of audio, Press Shift+5.
To zoom one hour of audio, press Shift+6.
To zoom out the entire sound file, press Shift+A.
To zoom to the level where individual samples can be seen and edited,
Press Shift+0.
To zoom in or out to a preset level, Press Shift+U.
To zoom to the recent previous value, press Shift+P.
To zoom to a specified level, Press Shift+S to open the dialog, and
type-in the value, when you press enter to close the dialog, the new
level is automaticly
anounced.

Finding certains parts of a sound file is done through keyboard
navigation, which involves playing the file and moving the playback
cursor
until the area if interest is located.
The view and zoom level control how much audio is displayed on the
screen

(or page). By default, GoldWave displays the entire file.
Use the View Menu Commands to change the amount of audio displayed.
This

also changes the amount the playback cursor and selection markers are
moved with
each keystroke. The cursor is moved one tenth of the screen size.
Selection markers are moved one hundredth of the screen size. Using
View | 10 Seconds
displays 10 seconds of audio in the view. The Page Up or Page Down key
moves the cursor 10 seconds backward or forward. The Left or Right
key moves the cursor 1 second backward or forward. The selection keys
move the start or finish marker a tenth of second (0.1). Using View | 1
Second
displays 1 second of audio. At that level, the page, arrow, and
selection
keys move 1 second, one tenth of a second, and one hundredth of a
second

respectively.

Hello,

The scripts should be in the jaws user settings folder. It is easily found
in start menu/programs/your version of jaws/explore jaws/explore my

Yes, my goldwave version is the latest one 5.58. Because you are using older
version it probably doesn't work with this version of scripts. Unfortunately
I don't have the scripts for GW 5.25.
About shift+number commands - look if something is changed in the view menu
for the zoom level. It doesn't speak much here using the hotkeys.

Finding certains parts of a sound file is done through keyboard

cursor
until the area if interest is located.
The view and zoom level control how much audio is displayed on the screen

At that level, the page, arrow, and selection
keys move 1 second, one tenth of a second, and one hundredth of a second
respectively.

[JAWS-Users] GoldWave File Length and Splitting Issue

2011-07-17 Thread Scorpio Forever
Hi Folks,

I am attempting to split a large file into smaller chunks and I'm having
trouble with it for the first time ever.

First, the relevant facts...

I'm currently using the latest build of GoldWave and Jaws 12, and the latest
GoldWave scripts from the Jaws-Users scripts page.

I'm also using Windows XP home edition on a Toshiba laptop.

Now the particulars of the case.

The file I'm trying to split is just under 6 and a half hours long, this
according to Winamp, my BookSense XT and the status line under Windows Explorer.

Once loaded into GoldWave, however, GoldWave reports that the file is only 23
minutes and 17 seconds long after doing a control+A to highlight the entire
file.

I've even attempted to move, both the start and end markers to the end of the
file, and playing on from there, but no go. I can't for the life of me
understand why I can't get past the 23 minutes and 17 second mark.

A few possibly irrelevant facts are that this is an Audible converted file, and
though GoldWave states that there's only 23 minutes in the file, when I play
the file on my BookSense XT, or in Winamp, the entire file is there at just
under six hours and a half. Another possibly irrelevant fact is that when
reading the status bar in Windows Explorer, the status line is reading the
entire file is there at the 6 and a half hours, but it's stating that it's a
quicktime format file, even though the extension is MP3.

If anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening, I would appreciate your
input.

Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] GoldWave looses focus

2011-04-14 Thread lmorris1953
I am currently using GoldWave 5.57 and I have a issue with GoldWave loosing

the file to read email. But when I go back to the file I am placed in a dialog
box containing various options to tab through rather than the file I was
listening too. The problem is I can not use the right arrow to zoom past
commercials. I have to close the program and reopen the file and locate where I
left off. Is there away to prevent GoldWave from loosing focus?

Re: [JAWS-Users] GoldWave editing sound problem

2010-10-21 Thread Patti

This is what I would do.
1 get passed the sound you want to delete
2 press f7 to stop
3 press the start marker
4 press ctrl t to trim off the beginning
hth Patti

I am using the latest GoldWave version and I am having an editing sound
issue. I have a sound file that has a little hiss at the beginning of the
sound file which I want to delete. I have the zoom level to the smallest
value using shift 1 and I hit the right arrow key then set the start marker
and hit the right arrow key again and then set the finish marker. However
when I hit the delete key I keep getting the message no sound selected.
What should I be doing differently? Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] Goldwave users

2010-07-05 Thread wayne smith
Hello-

I am a new Goldwave user. Jaws 11 seems to work with it but I keep running
into a sequence problem. For example, I figured out how to burn some sound
files on my C-drive but as I go through the Goldwave steps to burn the CD
everything makes sense until the point of actually instructing the program
to do the burn. I press the Next button that should get me to the burn
point and everything stops and goes back to the folder list. Is JAWS
missing something?

The same thing happens when I try to convert a group of sound files as a
batch. The process progresses to near the end and then there is no place to
instruct the program to complete the process. This pattern leads me to
think that Jaws is missing something. Any help would be appreciated. I am
using Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit.

Thanks in advance-

Wayne

Hi folks,
Going through GoldWave tutorial. Want to document GoldWave settings and

file.
I launch GW, press F11 for control properties as recommended in tutorial.
There are tabs: play, record, volume, visual, device, test, troubleshoot.
Is there an easy way that I can copy options with recommended setting so I
can paste into a doc without typing info?
I want to have each settings and its value or checked or unchecked in a doc

Any ideas welcomd.
thanks,

Are there any current tutorials on it?*HTML word doc or PDF

Will the Goldwave's site allow me to save a hard media copy?

At $45.00 a pop, can I install a copy on my laptop at no

You know, if all you need is to convert your wav files to mp3, I wouldn't
suggest installing GoldWave, which is a more complex sound editor and would
take lots of space and ram memory. If you can't get the Winam plugin, how about
any media files converter? I use Total Video Converter for all of mine, video
or audio:
http://www.download.com/Total-Video-Converter/3000-2194_4-10429299.html But
I've herd some about a Total Audio Converter too:

Hope it helps.

Karen, The version of Goldwave I currently have is 5.25 I think it's the
latest one. There are also jaws scripts for it, but I can't remember where I
got them from.
As for cost, it's a long time since I paid for it, so check

[JAWS-Users] goldwave recording input issues revisited in V5.23

2008-11-12 Thread Leonard Morris
I still have not resolved my Goldwave recording issues for switching from
recording from the internal laptop mike to input from another source like a
radio station on the internet. So, I am thinking about going back to maybe
v5.22 or even maybe v5.10 to troubleshoot recording issues. Since I have
already used prior versions and installed prior GoldWave jaws scripts is there
going to be any conflicts? Thanks.

GoldWave records initially in .WAV format. However, it is very easy to
store the file in .MP3 as you have described. Wave files are very easy
 to
edit, change or modify. Once you have the project completed, you can
easily access the File menu and choose .MP3 as the type of medium you
want. GoldWave doesn't save that file anywhere until you tell it to. It
records in the wave format for the reasons I have indicated above.

Re: [JAWS-Users] GoldWave question

2008-07-24 Thread Lennie Rinaldi
Hi Rachel,

As was mentioned, you can set up the default to save your recording
in MP3 format.

Personally, when I do a recording, particularly a large file, I save
it as a WAV file. The reason for this is that GoldWave can be
accessed and saved quicker in this format.

If you save the recording in MP3, and you need to do some editing,
the retrieval has to convert the file to WAV first and then convert
it back to MP3 when saving it.

When I have the finished product, then I will convert it to MP3 and
delete the WAV file.

It is a matter of personal choice. HTH,

Lennie

record tape and LP. It is more accessible when you use Jaws scripts
with it. The scripts can be downloaded from the Jaws Users script
 page. The URL is below:

There are very good tutorial in using GoldWave by Rick Harmon. You
can visit his web site at:

The only trick to recording tapes and LPs is setting the proper
 volume level without causing distortion.

 HTH,

 Lennie

Hello Listers,

I was trying to use audio grabber in order to digitize some of my
tapes and LP through my in line on my sound card, and I saw in the
archives of this list about audio grabber, but it said I had to buy
it. However, I could not find how to buy the product, Has anyone
used it or know another product that would convert immediately to
MP3 as it records and fully accessible with Jaws?
Thanks for any pointers,
Rachel
