[JAWS-Users] winamp v5.541

2008-10-01 Thread Leonard Morris
I upgraded from winamp V5.24 pro to v5.541 and the alt keys don't bring up any
menus anymore. Do I need to upgrade some scripts? The other version was working
fine! Well, as they say if it aint broke don't fix it. (smile)

Re: [JAWS-Users] winamp volume question

2008-09-28 Thread Patricia Dunbar
Thanks Tim and all the others who gave us help with this matter. I did a
dumb thing trying to set a bookmarker and ended up pressing, alt-control-M
and hearing jaws say volume set to 0 freaked me out trying to bring back the
volume. I wasn't in the main window or this wouldn't have been an issue in
the first place...

Think its control + alt +,m,. one of those three will move the
volume. You can also use up arrow. For any of these to work you have
to be in the main winamp window.

should increase winamp's volume.

To decrease the volume Press the down arrow.

[JAWS-Users] Winamp playlist editor, help getting started?

2008-09-19 Thread Chris Feist
Hi. I'm using JAWS 7.0 and the latest version of Winamp. I've never
fiddled with the playlist editor and would like to. It doesn't seem
accessible to me so far. Granted, I don't know the first thing about how to
make a playlist. I've researched a little about it, but it left me
confused.

I just want to keep it simple right now. I'm wanting Winamp to play a small
list of songs that I choose to be played that are on my computer. I'm
assuming that I don't have to move these songs into the same folder. Rather
I can just tell Winamp where the songs are at and Winamp will access them
from that location?

As a complete newbie to Winamp's playlist editor, I'd appreciate any tips to
get me started. Thanks.

Yes, there is a way to creat a play list in winamp. Try the following:

1. Without opening winamp, locate the song.

2. Right click the song, (press the applications key).

3. Down arrow to Enqueue in Winamp, and Press enter. This will save
the song in the winamp's play list.

4. Browse to other songs and repeat steps 2 and 3.

5. When you have selected all the songs, press alt+tab to winamp.

6. Press x to play the list.

x= Play the list
c= pause
v= stop
b= move to next track
z= move to previous track

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] Winamp and Jaws 10

2008-08-26 Thread graham smith
HI

I currently use Winamp 5.35 with latest Jaws 9 and all works well

I have downloaded Jaws 10 and merged my Jaws 9 settings into Jaws 10. .

I find winamp is not useable with Jaws 10, do I have to download scripsts for
it? I would of thought they should be there or will I have to manualy copy them
into Jaws 10 from Jaws 9?

I cannot remember if I downloaded scripst for jaws 9.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Winamp and Jaws 10

2008-08-26 Thread Russ Breitenstein
WinAmp did not respond for me either in Jaws 10.0 so I went into Script
Manager and re-compiled winamp.jss. That seemed to get things working again.
I remembered that there were scripts for WinAmp at the Jaws-Users website
and downloaded, installed, and compiled the scripts. That pretty much got
things back to where things were in 9.0. What is interesting is that the
scripts in Jaws 8.0 worked best of all. I tried copying them to 10.0 but got
a compile error. I did not feel like tracking down the error so I put the
10.0 scripts back for now.

Definitely the latest version--5.541. the only thing is that if you try to
use the library in the version 5 series, unfortunately it doesn't work with
JAWS that well. If you use the library for finding streams to listen to,
use www.shoutcast.com instead.

I am afraid that just pressing tab in WinAmp is not likely to get you any
where initially.
WinAmp is accessible but works more from keyboard shortcuts rather than file
menus or control buttons . I remember I was similarly confused when I first
came across it and tried to use it by using the alt key tab etc.

Pressing control p will get you into preferences and tab will work to
navigate here.

You will need to learn the keyboard shortcuts.

For example pressing space will toggle play on and off. Up arrow increases
volume, left and right arrow will move you on through the track and so on.
You might find it easier to navigate to music in window explorer and simply
use the context menus there to use WinAmp to play your files.

You should consult the Jaws help topic for the full list of key board
shortcuts.

Re: [JAWS-Users] WinAmp?

2008-06-28 Thread tim
Tab by itself does nothing, but tab + controls, moves you through its
different windows like equalizer, play list and library.
With winamp open try alt + w. that will put you in the main window.
Then do a insert + h to see what other jaws keys you can use.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Winamp As My Default Player

2008-06-27 Thread Denny Huff
You may want to do a control p while in Winamp and under the general tab,
make sure that Winamp Agent is checked.
This will prevent another media player from taking over as the default.

Highlight an mp3 file and then press your applications key.
Arrow up to properties or type the letter r.
Shift tab one time to, open with.
Find Winamp in the list.
Tab to, always use this program to open this type of file and check it.
Tab to OK.
If you have wave files you may want to do the same.

[JAWS-Users] Winamp issue

2008-06-27 Thread Christy Walker
Hi there. I have winamp version 2.4.. I am wondering what is with the library.
I can not seem to access the library.
Like for instance where it says now playing it is not working like older
versions of winamp.
I can not see the list of things such as shoutcast radio shoutcast tv things
like that.
Is there a way of resolving this issue?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Winamp As My Default Player

2008-06-26 Thread James Scholes
Hi,

Donnie Parrett wrote: How do I make Winamp my default player. Right now Reel
Player has total control.
There are a couple of ways to do this. 1 is to go into the Winamp preferences,
and check all of the boxes under the file types page. Or, for every file type
you want Winamp to play, go into the properties of a file of that type and set
it to open with Winamp. Finally, uncheck all of the file type options in Real
Player, or uninstall it.

Hoping someone can help me to solve this mystery. WinAmp is working well,
and I can go through its windows (equalizer, play list editor etc.) and
 pause
and start the file using the space bar. However, if I want to jump to
time, (for example), all I hear is control j. It does not say jump to
 time, and
if I try to arrow left or right to read the time I just hear blank. If I
press a number to write the time in that isn't where my pc cursor is.
 Apparently
visually the time does come up and is flashing on the monitor but since I
cannot access it it is of no help to me. And all the other jaws commands

the same. I cannot even close WinAmp using alt f4. I am running the

 Thank you very much,

Hi, control tab to the equalizer and press control f4. Alternatively press

  Apparently

Re: [JAWS-Users] WinAmp problem, Again!

2008-06-23 Thread Negoslav Sabev
I'm not Joy, but with ctrl.+tab you switch to the different winamp windows.
Each one has also a key combination that toggles it. For the library it's
alt+l; for the equalizer is alt+g; for the playlist editor - alt+e and for
the main window - alt+w.

Also, what I do is make sure I only have certain windows open when I need
them. So you might try alt+e, alt+g, and alt+v etc to make sure all the
windows, apart from of course the main window, are closed.

Re: [JAWS-Users] WinAmp problem, Again!

Dear Andrew,
As long as the update window doesn't open then I can cycle through the windows
using control tab. If the window I want isn't open then insert w and arrowing
down and hitting enter on the correct function works.

I don't remember the exact number of the version I'm currently using, but it
and the previous version I used (it was just updated) were both 5 point
something so I think these methods should work for you, ... do they?

I'm greatful for this programme but it really has some major kinks I wish
they'd work out of it.

Best of luck,
Yours,
Joy

When you first open Winamp, you might try cycling through whatever Winamp
windows may be open by using tab plus control.
You don't always know what window you're in when first opening Winamp, and I
don't believe the control J works in all Winamp windows.
I'm sure someone will set me straight if I'm wrong about this.

[JAWS-Users] winamp and MP4

2008-05-31 Thread Leonard Morris
I am currently running winamp 5.24. I downloaded some CBS evening news video
podcasts and have tried playing via juice and winamp but I get no audio.
Fortunately, I can play them via GoldWave. However that is a temporary fix. Is
there a Winamp pluggin I can get or should I upgrade to a more current version
than the 5.24 I am using to play mp4 files? Thanks.

When you burn the CD it usually opens the cd door. Pop it back in. Win Amp
should get the information from the internet. You might have to select the
correct one.

Hi,
I am having a little difficulty moving around in winamp getting to an
audiobook. Perhaps I haven't saved the book to the correct place, as well,
I'm not sure how I should be opening the book to listen to it.
Currently I've saved the auiobook (wma file) to music folder in my docs.
When I go to open it I have several choices: press enter or choose one of
several option from the application key. What is the best method? Should I
be able to get to this book from the winamp main window? And should it be on
some winamp list, how does that happen?
Thanks in advance for any help.

it's downgradeable.

like being able to create bookmarks within a file easily in Winamp.
I also like being able to skip forward or back in 5 second intervals in
Winamp not to mention the ability to jump to any point within a file.
You can probably do all of these things using WMP, but I'm not totally sure
 about that.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Winamp and WMP 11

 Hi,

I have been looking at just about every version of winamp over the last week
or so. I used to use Winamp several years ago but when I purchased a new
Laptop I tried using WMP 11 and have found it very good.

Please can somebody explain to me what I am missing by not using Winamp!

I do realise that it all depends on what you wish to do with your player and
that most of you will just think, Oh well whatever works for you but in my
case, Rippping, Burning using a Library, creating Play lists etc all are
very accessible using WMP but to be honest although I have had some success
with Winamp versions which includes using down loaded scripts from the site,
I am coming to the conclusion that WMP 11 is the thing to use.

Please tell me why most of you prefer Winamp and why you may think it is
better than the standard Windows Player.

Look forward to hearing your comments.

 regards

 Graham

Re: [JAWS-Users] Winamp and WMP 11

2008-01-26 Thread Carlene Knight
Hi:

If you use WMP use 10 not 11 if you want to make an honest comparison. Media
Player 10 is much simpler and easier to use. Eleven looks a bit more versitile
but it is a bear to navigate. If you are using Vista, to my knowledge, you
will be stuck with 11.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Winamp as default player

2008-01-23 Thread Flor Lynch
I think at one time it was automatically enabled or at least always
available when you had winamp Agent installed. However, what I do now when
installing Winamp is uncheck everything except the 'slower connections,
accessibility' or classic set-up. It wouldn't matter as much now, but in
the old days things Like Realplayer and/or Winamp Agent being in the System
Tray took up some RAM resources. In general, the less cluttered the screen
the better - for screen-readers, and many other users. Winamp packs a lot
into a small space! I use it, occasionally at the moment.

Yes, the Winamp browser really messes with a screenreader, but I didn't know
it had anything to do with the Winamp Agent. There is a plugin available
for disabling the browser starting with version 5.1.

Victor,
I have been using the Winamp Agent since version 2.1 and have not had any
problems with it interfering with my screen reader. Several years ago
everytime I would use Real Player, it would take over as the default player.
That is when I started using the Winamp Agent and it has worked for me ever
since.
I don't know how it would interfere with a screenreader, but I guess
anything is possible.

Thanks!

Hi Denny,

I'm a bit confused by your post.

Everything I've read about installing the Winamp Agent says to do otherwise
and not install it.

It apparently does not work well with screen readers, and has even been
suggested on Main Menu that the agent be excluded from being installed on
all machines running assistive technology.

Has this changed since the release of 5.35?

I have not updated to 5.51 as I still think there are some bugs that need to
be ironed out in that issue, but I still have not seen anything to
contradict my earlier comments.

Another work around for the browser is to not install the Winamp Agent upon
installation of Winamp, but then to activate it after installation.
I have just never had any problems using the Winamp Agent and Jaws.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Winamp as default player

2008-01-23 Thread Flor Lynch
Victor,

that sort of thing (the playing of files by WMP instead of Winamp, for
example) could easily happen if WMP is the last player to have been updated.
I know that at the time I updated to Windows media Player 9 from 8, it
wanted to play all file types that it could, until I went in and selected
some, but not all. But it's not a problem, really. Just select the file
types you want in each player, and they should all cohabit respectfully
almost ever after.

Hi Denny,

While I respect your opinion regarding the Winamp Agent and it's uses, I
think you should know that if the default is being taken away from Winamp,
then you most likely have other issues to worry about.

In all the time I have ever used Winamp, well over 8 years, Windows Media
Player has never taken over the playing of my media unless I tell it to.

For example, I have Winamp set to play audio files and CD's, but I let
Windows Media player set to play video files at all times.

This is my preference, since I find Winamp pretty bad at playing video
files, not to mention, and to bring this back on topic, I find the video
controls for Windows Media Player to be more accessible with Jaws.

I have tried playing videos with Winamp, and while I could hear the audio,
my wife, who is sighted, could not see the video portion of the file, so
I've kept this setting ever since.

Suffice it to say, I have never had my audio files hijacked by Windows Media
Player since I've used Winamp. Wish I could say the same for Internet
Explorer, but glad I can say it for Winamp.

Might this hijacking you are talking about be the result of some possible
viruses or spam, or even spyware that you may not be aware of?

Like I said, I find it strange that your audio files would be hijacked by
WMP.

I guess the caveat could be that I am a one of a kind user who has never
experienced this, and welcome any comments from others who have experienced
this phenomenon.

Victor

[JAWS-Users] Winamp as default player

2008-01-22 Thread Larry Stansifer
Hi Folks,

Recently there was a discussion on this list that provided instructions to
make Winamp the default player. Try as I might, I can not locate this
information. Would somebody pleas point me in the right direction?

[JAWS-Users] Winamp and WMP 11

2008-01-22 Thread graham smith
Hi,

I have been looking at just about every version of winamp over the last week or
so. I used to use Winamp several years ago but when I purchased a new Laptop I
tried using WMP 11 and have found it very good.

Please can somebody explain to me what I am missing by not using Winamp!

I do realise that it all depends on what you wish to do with your player and
that most of you will just think, Oh well whatever works for you but in my
case, Rippping, Burning using a Library, creating Play lists etc all are very
accessible using WMP but to be honest although I have had some success with
Winamp versions which includes using down loaded scripts from the site, I am
coming to the conclusion that WMP 11 is the thing to use.

Please tell me why most of you prefer Winamp and why you may think it is better
than the standard Windows Player.

Look forward to hearing your comments.

regards

Graham

2008-01-22 Thread Denny Huff
I think it is just a personal preference. I have used Winamp for years and
it is what I have grown accustomed to using. WMP is a good media player and
if it does what you need it to do, then by all means keep using it.
I do find that it is easier to set up play lists in Winamp though. Also I
like being able to create bookmarks within a file easily in Winamp.
I also like being able to skip forward or back in 5 second intervals in
Winamp not to mention the ability to jump to any point within a file.
You can probably do all of these things using WMP, but I'm not totally sure
about that.

I am just trying to learn how to use Winamp. Any advice would be

Steve,
I think that those scripts are included with Jaws. Winamp should work good
right out of the box.
I don't use Winamp to rip or burn CD's, so I can't testify as to how that
works with Jaws, but all other features I use in Winamp works good without

Steve,
If you can do what you need to do with Nero and you can access it with Jaws,
then yes, it is a good choice. I personally use CD Burner by Acoustica ,
but that is only a personal choice.
There are many other choices for burning CD's of which David posts to his
web site that will work good with Jaws.
Like I said, if you find something that works for you and it does the job
you want it to do, then there is no need to change.

2008-01-22 Thread Maria Chapman
I basically use winamp because I guess that's what I am used to. I like
to be able to fast forward through file and mark what I'm reading so I
can pick it up where I left off. I also have winamp set so that if I
press enter on a song it will kew it for me. I don't know how to do that
in wmp.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Winamp Question

2008-01-05 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Donny,

Try the F11 key.

That is the keystroke most commonly associated with making an application's
video full screen.

It's the same in Windows Media Player and QuickTime.

To revert the application back to normal viewing, you would press the F11
key again.

Hi friend, Press JAWSKey+Shift+W to make sure that you are in winamp

feedback on this feature,
means: one press of alt+enter turns the full screen on, and the other

Thank you so much. This works like a charm. I have a little bit of vision,
but when I would try to
see a Winamp video, I couldn't tell anything about it. With this key function

makes the video the full size of the screen. Again, thanks for letting me know

Hi. This isn't so much of a problem with the actual program
itself, but on the list I run called winamp4theblind, I had a report
from a guy saying that the help for the specific JAWS commands while
in the playlist editor was broken in JAWS 9.0. I took a look, and
sure enough, he's right. To demonstrate what I mean here, do the
following.

1. With Winamp open on the screen, press control plus tab until you
land in the playlist editor window. Note that if you press
control plus tab repeatedly and you don't see the playlist editor,
simply press alt plus e and that'll open it up.
2. Now that you're there, press jaws key plus h
JAWS will say, Use the following hot keys in the Winamp main window.
But since you're in the playlist editor, it should say, Use the
following hot keys in the playlist editor window.
Does anyone else notice this? If I had noticed this during the beta
cycle I certainly would've reported it as a bug, but I'm afraid I
missed this one.
BTW it doesn't matter which version of Winamp you're running so that
doesn't seem to be a factor. So I just thought I might see if anyone
else running JAWS 9 and using Winamp notices this?
Thanks.

Hi David

Initially there isn't anything wrong with Winamp 5.5, but if you want
a version that doesn't include all the extra stuff like free
e-music, you can get a different copy that's the full version, but
doesn't contain all those extras at:
http://fileforum.betanews.com/sendfile/1066336873/1/winamp55_full_en-us.exe
The installer was rewritten for this version, so when you install it,
be careful to read all the screens carefuly, because you're presented
with some new options.
*winamp remote which lets you stream your media library from another
computer
*new Winamp toolbar for Internet Explorer 7 (I don't know if they'll
release a version for firefox but I bet someone will soon

* a new Id3 tag editor with an album artwork tab, I couldn't get that
particular thing to work with anything on my system, but it's there.

Re: [JAWS-Users] winamp 5.5

2007-10-12 Thread Chris Skarstad

*winamp remote which lets you stream your media library from another computer
*new Winamp toolbar for Internet Explorer 7 (I don't know if they'll
release a version for firefox but I bet someone will soon

* a new Id3 tag editor with an album artwork tab, I couldn't get that
particular thing to work with anything on my system, but it's there.
and lots of other things like improvements in the media library.

Hope that helps.

Oh, do you have modern skin support enabled? If so, change it to classic
skin. Hope that helps.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] winamp 535 version question

Okay, I downloaded the version from the jaws users home page. Here is
 what
I downloaded, 45. winamp535_full Documentation Included Download Link

 Latest version as of 5/17/2007
 Note: Scripts Available
 46. Various Plug Ins For Winamp
Do I also download these various plug ins? I can't find the scripts for
this version on the scripts page either. When I open up this version, I
can't get the menu to come up. Where did I screw up this time?

Re: [JAWS-Users] winamp 535 version question

2007-08-29 Thread Flor Lynch
Hit ctrl-p to open Preferences, then hit the letter s until Skins is
highlighted. Down-arrow to highlight Classic, select it with spacebar or
hit enter, and tab through the dialogue (if there is one). Ideally, Classic
Skin will be the only skin you would have installed (with no sight, etc.)
Next time you install Winamp - you can install Winamp over itself, again -
do not select all options, but rather check those things you want (select
with spacebar) and leave unchecked (or uncheck with spacebar) those you
don't.
