Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Explorer Locks
There is no answer to this issue. Microsoft cannot say why this happens to some computers, nor can any other technical support group that I have spoken to about it. The best thing that I found to help the problem is to get an external hard drive, and move all of my media, documents, etc., anything that is not required for the computer to operate, to the external drive. This greatly increased the amount of free space on my internal drive, and let the computer run much smoother with less freezes or other problems. You can pick up a good external drive on Amazon or eBay for a good price, and a 500 GB drive would probably do for most people. Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Explorer Locks
Hi Lynn, Try the following to see if this will help: DO you have the preview pane and preview handlers disabled? If not, try the following. To disable the preview pane: 1. Open Computer. 2. Tab until you hear command module toolbar, organize button 3. Press the spacebar to activate the menu. 4. Arrow down to the Layout submenu and select it. 5. Arrow down to Preview pane and press Enter to uncheck it. 6. See if the problem persists. To disable preview handlers: 1. Open Computer. 2. Open the Tools menu. 3. Select Folder options. 4. Navigate to the View tab. 5. Tab to the treeview of options. 6. Arrow down until you find the setting labeled Show preview handlers in preview pane 7. If it says that it is on, press the spacebar to toggle it off. 8. Tab to the Apply button and select it to save the changes. 9. Tab to the OK button press enter to close the Folder Options dialog. If the setting was already off, then just skip steps 7 and 8. 10. See if the problem still persists. Take care. Well regarding this issue which I reported a while back I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows seven. No picnic at the beach for sure. My tech person said it was indeed a virus. Why Avast did not see it I don't know but I went back to using MSE. So far so good knock on wood. -- From: DJ grou...@gmail.com Sent: Monday, September 06, 2010 9:58 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] windows explorer is not responding error I've been seeing this problem for quite some time on a 23 bit win7 machine. Explorer crashes and then the user can't get back into any folder using Explorer work about 5 or 10 minutes. We've switched to only accessing files through the legacy open dialog box for various programs. Otherwise, forget it. Another way we've found to sort of beat this thing is to immediately log off of windows and log back in, but who wants to keep doing that? -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Leonard Morris Sent: Sunday, August 15, 2010 1:19 AM To: jaws Subject: [JAWS-Users] windows explorer is not responding error I am getting a windows explorer is not responding error message using windows seven on my d: drive. I ran avast to check for viruses, an avast boot scan, and checked the drive for errors. The system restore dates only reveal back two days when the problems seemed to have started. However, nothing seems to fix the issue.
