[JOYnet] Unless you repent you will all perish (Luke 13.3).

2002-02-12 Thread Bensi Chacko

Dear Friends,

The sign of Cross on the forehead is the seal of the true Christian. It
sets him apart from beast that has the sign, 666 (Rev. 20.4). On judgement
day the seal will be laid bare and each one will be asked, "Where is your
Sign?" Everyone found with the sign of Cross will be saved and those with
the mark of the beast will be damned.

The ordinary Cross of a Christian is integrated with Penance.
"Unless you repent you will all perish"(Luke 13.3). There exist 5 common
means of penance. They are.

1. Fasting
2. Abstinence
3. Almsgiving
4. Joyful obedience to the Will of God
5. Perfection of duties attached to one’s state of life

FASTING
--

In the Fatima message, we are asked to fast every Friday in reparation
for the sins committed against God. The devil is powerless against fasting.

ABSTINENCE

It refers to the non-eating of meat on certain days like Wednesday and
Friday and other days prescribed by the Church. The physical weakness we
experience during abstinence is the sacrifice we make to repair for the sins
committed against God. “ For it is when I am weak that I am strong (2 Cor
12.10).

ALMSGIVING

Almsgiving is giving up to the poor or the needy an essential portion
of what we have and not of what is in excess or surplus in our budget. In
spite of their poverty, the Holy Family of Nazareth gave 30% of everything
they had. It must have hurt their budget considerably, knowing that it was
only St. Joseph, through his humble work as a carpenter, who provide for the
family needs.

If even in our want we continue to share with those who are in
greater need, and if it leaves us hurting, then we experience the true
meaning of the Cross of almsgiving.

JOYFUL OBEDIENCE TO THE WILL OF GOD

It is our resignation to accept with joy and openness the crosses God
deems to send us. Jesus told us "No one who does not carry his cross and
come after me can be my disciple" (Luke 14.:27)

PERFECTION OF THE DUTY OF ONE’ S STATE OF LIFE
---

It consisting of performing according to what our roles in life
dictate. If we are married, then we should be a good mother or father to our
children and a devoted spouse to our wife or husband. If we are in the
religious life, whether priest or sister, then we must faithful to our vows
or promises. Lastly if we are single then we must live in purity and work
with diligence in our profession. According to Father Tanquerey to fulfill
one’s duty as perfectly as one can is to offer God the most perfect
sacrifice within our giving, a perpetual holocaust, since this duty rests
upon us from morning until night.

Re: [JOYnet] Dear God, Happy Valentines Day! - VD or CLD

2002-02-12 Thread Priya Joy

Yes I agree with Sojan and Jason, in recent years Valentines day captured a
special place in our hearts. For teens now it's more special than their
birthday.

Here in Cochin they are gearing up to celebrate their own day. Shops offers
many gift items, cards etc. all gifts inscribed three sweets words "I Love
You" This week love is in the air. Romeo and Juliet's are ready to burn
their pockets, by arranging dance and dine star hotels making worth of this
special day! Teen's slogan is 'go out and spend some qualitative time with
those who matter':)

Previous year was also very fabulous valentine celebrations here in Cochin.
Before a week, teachers began to discuss about this day's specialty in their
school since I was a new teacher there. I heard many adventure stories of
our gals. We had a hot discussion about new trend. Senior most teachers
sighed, their plight was they lost their chance to celebrate. At the peek of
discussion, we 2-3 spinsters were asked to comment our experience

We had nothing to say. One of our language teachers' very funny characters
to break our silence asked whether we got cards and letters in any African
language?? She was curious to know which language is used by these modern
guys to express their love which can't be fully express in words!

That day in personal prayer I shared all these lighter moments with Jesus
too, I put forth the same question (that teacher asked to me) to him "Is it
to be written in Hindi, English, Malayalm or in any African language?"

After few days I received a mail from Shincy, 9th batch full timer placed in
Ujjain. She never used to write to me. First part of the mail was ordinary.
Second part she wrote it as a letter from 'Jesus to Priya.' I praise god for
her imagination and talent to write like that. Letter began with the word
'Valentine'and continued as "I have called you by name you are mine. You
are precious to me and because I love you and give you honour." Is
43/1-5. All sweet and soft words :)

My eyes were wet because he taught me again that he even care my silly
thoughts. And this year I am confident enough to tell my counter parts that
I too have received a wonderful valentine letter, that too from Jesus

Happy Valentines day & Enjoy it with Jesus :)

2002-02-12 Thread abyjacob abyjacob

Praise be to JESUS

I would like to Share a Scripture which I found very Inspiring

Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! Many
are they that rise up against me. Many there be which
say of my soul. There is no help for him in God.

But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and
the lifter up of mine head.
I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me
out of his holy hill.

I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord
sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of
people, that have set themselves against me round
about.

Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God; for thou hast
smitten all mine enemies upon the cheekbone; thou hast
broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongeth
unto the Lord: thy blessing is upon thy people.

Dear Friends

Let us congratulate Priya for she has transformed that boy with the powerful
verses from the Bible and in the process she has won one more soul... Great
indeed are your works O'Lord.

Keep up the good work Priya.

“Give to others and god will give to you. Indeed you will receive a full
measure, a generous helping poured in to your hands – all that you can hold”
Luke 6:38-39

Friends, I have experienced the power of this very verses in my life several
times. Whenever I have given alms even when I am running short of money or
extended any other help, God has given me many folds in return.

Let us make a fruitful lent season this year by emulating the above verses.

With prayerful regards

We, Christians are expected to be different. The Bible reveals the life
style of early Christians & they shared what they had with the other fellow
men. They were real role models! Now a days what's wrong with us?
Where is the value of "Sharing?"

Two days before we had an annual scouts and guides camp in our institution.
The first day morning, a kid approached a senior guy for little toothpaste.
But he refused to share. In camp at noontime, they all trained to mould a
tent, there this senior boy was asked to bring his bed sheet to decorate the
tent. Again, he was reluctant to give his things.

With out knowing any of these, I approached the same guy to
get some clothes to cover the table. He said "NO”. Other boys heard
our talk and they started complaining against him. All his
loutishness made me furious & I made him to give that bed sheets
for others.

While we were about to leave, I said 'bye' to him. He didn't respond back,
the reason was plain that he felt bad when I pointed out his stinginess in
front of others. Really, my intention was to inculcate good value in him and
the out come of my deal was a 'gloomy face.' I felt sorry for him. How to
console/ settles this...
Oh! Thank god! In the Bible - Luke 6: 38-39, we reads “ Give to others
and God will give to you.” I approached him, repeating this scripture in my
mind. At first, he seems to be rebellious but slowly he
melted & we shared lighter moments. He admitted frankly that he didn't have
enough role models to learn about this value sharing. Finally I quoted the
first half of the above verse and prompted him to complete the rest. (I knew
he is a Christian) In a soft voice, he completed “ Indeed you will receive a
full measure, a generous helping poured in to your hands- all that you can
hold.” The boy went back by promising me that he will share his things with
others! May God help him to keep his words!

Future generation needs role model to inculcate this great value 'Sharing'
We have some role models in our Jesus youth community but needed more
apostles in our midst!!!

Let’s learn the meaning of these verses in depth. “Give to others and god
will give to you. Indeed you will receive a full measure, a generous helping
poured in to your hands – all that you can hold” Luke 6:38-39

In this lent try to implement these verse in our own life! Let's others know
we are Christians!

Praise God!

Praise God!

[JOYnet] Life In the Spirit Seminar

2002-02-12 Thread Alexy Pallan

Dear Joynetters,
Thank u verymuch for ur prayers. Yesterday we completed our LSS (Life in the
Spirit Seminar) programme in our community. Really these were the days we
experienced the blessings of our Abba Father. All of us renewed ourselves
and had a new God experience and we experienced the indewelling &
overshadowing presence of the Holy Spirit. Some of the insights are,
1. Our love for people fall short when our expectations of others are not
fulfilled. But God's love for us never falls short because He has no
expectations from us;He knows fully well our past, present and future.
2. Every baptised christian is missionary.
3. We must be humble at heart so that our words, thought & deeds also
become humble. The Holy Spirit being a spirit of humulity can be active
only in such persons.
4. A person really filled with Holy Spirit, wherever he goes whatever he
does or says only goodness will come like Jesus.
5. B I B L E - Behold, I Bring Life Eternal
6. Ignorence of Word of God is ignorance of Christ - St. Jerome.
7. Spiritual books only inspires us but Word of God transforms us.
Now we are planning to start another LSS programme for the next batch.
Remmber in ur prayers pls.

[JOYnet] 3 MIRACLES IN A DAY !!!!

2002-02-12 Thread sayhi78

Dear JYs

Yesterday was a day which will always be etched in my heart forever. Once
again the Lord showed us how much he take cares of us and that too in every
minute detail that we take so much for granted.

Miracle No. 1
==
Recently we have been facing some financial shortage as my brother had given
up his job to prepare for his Final B.Com Exams. But whatever situation it was
we had surrendered all to the Lord. Yesterday we received a cheque from my
Aunty in London. It seems when she came to know that my brother had given up
his job, something moved within her and she felt she had to help somehow. My
mother burst into tears when she saw the cheque.

Miracle No. 2
==
Last year my Mother and her Uncle (my grand uncle) had an argument on the
phone regarding some family matters. The conversation ended with my Uncle
telling my Mom that he never gave a damn to her even if she was buried in her
grave and he will never speak to her again. My Mom was hurt. But after that
conversation my Mom surrendered it all to the Lord. This Sunday my Mum decided
no matter what to call him and ask forgiveness on her part. However it slipped
her mind. Then yesterday in the morning again she decided to call him. But
then her tution children came. Afterwards when she was free again she went to
call when some guest dropped in. Finally my Mum prayed to the Lord and asked
why these obstacles were coming. Hardly my Mum said that prayer, the phone
rang. It was Mum's Uncle. He phoned to apologise for whatever he said to hurt
my Mum. My Mum was lost for words. The Lord is really so wonderful.

Miracle No. 3
===
Yesterday morning as usual I decided to sit for my personal prayers in the
Morning. Hardly did I start praying that all of a sudden I felt the urge to
run to the toilet. I felt this was some of kind of disturbance from Mr. Onida
Uncle ... hehe so I tried to remain. But the urge was so much that I
decided to give in. When I was coming out I noticed some smoke outside my
Bathroom window. Since I reside above two restaraunts it was obvious that
something must be really cooking. However when I reached the kitchen window I
saw that the area outside my kitchen window at a small distance was on fire.
As there was some garbage thrown there, someone had thrown a lighted cigarette
which cause the flame to burn. Below the place which caught fire the waiters
of the restaraunt resided. I rushed immediately to the window and started
calling out to them. Finally someone felt the heat inside and came up. I told
him what happen. Meanwhile the people on the floor above me started peeping. I
asked them to throw water immediately. They started pouring water. Meanwhile
the person from below climbed up and dosed the flame. I praise God for
interupting my prayers and saving my building from a fire which had just
started licking itself on some heavy rugs and papers. The fire was put off
before it could reach any wires.

Acts 16 : 31 "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved - You and your
family". - - It does make sense, doesnt it
