[JOYnet] Love & Friendship
Hai everyone on the Joynet, Praise God! Its been some time since I have been able to get in touch with the Joynet. I have moved to Kerala as you'll know and have been pretty busy. Well all that latter Love and Friendship. Well as far as I see it both has a component of each in the other. Love is there in friendship and so is friendship there is love. The problem is that each has been influenced by the cultural and social aspects of the respective place. What happens in the west may not be relevant in India. For that matter the understanding of friendship and love in a cosmopolitan city like Mumbai and that in a small town like Kottayam will be widely different. So I request JOYNETTERS to please take this aspect into consideration when writing on this topic. (for that matter any general topic). More important is the fact that what we are supposed to do when we have a friendship or we are in love with a person of the opposite sex. Well Christ has mentioned it clearly. The body is the temple and one has to use it only according to His will. I WOULD SAY ONE MUST BE FOLLOWING THE WILL OF OUR LORD IN ALL THAT WE DO EVEN. I remember reading in a book brought from Toronto from the international JY conference "Pure Love". One of the simile given there is interesting. If one is going out with your friend or you fiancie and then the question "How far is OK"? . it is like leaning into a gorge and trying to check "how far is really far". We may understand that only after you reach the bottom. So the best is get out from anything that is not pure in the EYES OF OUR LORD. Keep praying. Hai all on the JoYNET, Its great to be back on the NET with you. Well i am at Kottayam now and have joined my duties in the new MSW programme at BCM college. Lots happening at all levels - personal, prafessional and most of all WITH JESUS. I got a joyous reception here and i am into the thick of things here. On 2nd we have planned a teachers' gathering at KE college. This is for teachers who into renewal and those who support the JY groups in college. Its to be a motivating session and to bring about more coordinated effort to help the youngesters to meet JESUS. Then there is the Moriah meet from 11th to 14th of OCT. A small request to pray for me. I have been mention in my letters (for quite some time now) that i will be moving to kottayam BCM college. Well the day has been decided. the MSW course will be starting at BCM on the 16th of Sept. I will be leaving Satara on 14th night. The prayers required for are 1. I will be going on leave till the end of Nov. Got to get permission from the manamgement. 2. From the begining of Dec i will be going on lean (leave of absence) or resigning from the post. Please pray that lords will be done ie - resignation or lean. I do not have any preference as such. 3. Have to get a replacement in the Principal's post. 4. Hai everbody, I waqs able to log into check my mails after about 3 weeks now. Have been very bussy. Falling from trees, get togethers Wondering what this is all about. I reached my home at Kerala on 13 th may and 14 my brother and me went climbing mangoe trees. and there i was after about an hour or so of monkey jumping down on earth again. The branch i was standing had broken and i fell I was unconscious for about 10 to 15 sec. But through all that i was able to understand our Lord's caring and love.through my Acha (dad), Mummy, Darlin (wife) and Thomas (younger brother). Even my son Devassi had something to say... naan appoozhee paranchathalee.. (I had already told you not to climb trees). Right now am at Satara to take our luggage to Kottayam. Apart from the fall of other things have been happening at this end. I have started working INFORMALLY at BCM college KTM. Formally i will be joining only by sept/oct when the classes start. The lorry for taking the luggage has not been confirmed yet. But i am very sure that HE has made arrangements... How He made the arrangements i will let you know after I come to know about it... Dear friends on the JOY - NET, I will not able to keep in touch with JoYnet for few weeks as we are moving to Kottayam. Do pray . There are many things to be done. I know that the Lord is leading me. [JOYnet] Decision dilemma - thanks for u r prayers
Dear friends on the joynet, First of all let me thank you for all your prayers and support. I believe you'll will remember that i had asked for prayer support for a decesion I had to take with regard to joining in a college in Kerala. I had been offered a job in BCM college KTM where a new Social Work Department is to be started in the next academic year. After the interview i was informed that i was first on the list and they asked me to confirm my joining. There was a hicup in taking the decesion bcoz of the pay and job security things like that. Presently i am working in a college with UGC pay scale and it is a permanent job. I am doing pretty well here at Stara as Acting Principal of my college. My wife is also having a job here as a Psychiatric Social Worker in a Mentally Defecient Children's Home. It was a tough decesion to be taken to leave all these secure things and go to Kerala. Further it is our firm belief that it was Our Lord who had brought us to Satara. Now the confussion was at all levels #Does our lord want us to go back to Kerala #It is the first self financing course for MSW in Kerala - will it run #What about the job security #What about the pay #How are we going to meet the family expences #What if the department at BCM closes down #What about my wife's job and the income we are getting from that #Will she get a job in Kerala. #What about my sons schooling Well the list was going on and on and so was the evil one trying to get hold of us by creating dilemma and fear in making a decision. On the 16 on Apirl i was with my parents at Kavalam, my home town in Allapuzha dist of Kerarla. The whole night i could not sleep properly and the Evil one was showing me all the good things i have at Satara and making me compare with all the difficulties at Kottayam. In the morning i was so tensed and worried ACTUALLY SCARED that i was not even able to talk to my parents. It was my grand mothers death anniversary and we went for mass. During the mass i gave up all to Our Lord,with tears and asked Him to help me take a decision . THE ONE HE WANTED ME TO TAKE. The fear was still there even after the mass and I was finding it very difficult to understand... Even the LORD was not helping. Well He had better plans. He intervened through my Dad. On reaching home and seeing my body language my dad said " r u scared about taking the decision - do not worry Joseph go ahead we are all with you." After which we spent nearly an hour talking about the finer points. I WAS ABLE TO SAY YES TO OUR LORD AFTER THAT. AND BELIEVE ME IT IS THEN THAT I FELT THE "PEACE THAT PASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING WITHIN ME" Our Lord wanted me to go through all that and He wanted me to say YES FIRST. I know it is not going to be easy when we return but then our whole family is thrilled and my wife and me are very joyed that we could take a decesion for Our Lord. I am not sure what He has in store for me but ITS ALL GOING TO BE FOR OUR GOOD. I am shifting my family in the first week of May and I will joining only by Aug/Sept. when the classes begin. In this trobled times all you (some of you even sent comforting messages on the mail) have prayed for my family and me i wish to thank each of you for that. After the mass one of the senior members of the parish went up to tell our parish priest that we ought to give 12 covers to the parishnors so that it would be eassy for all to give the donations. He was sayiny this sarcastically as there was an announcement made duirng the mass that a contribution of Rs 100/-would be collected from the parishnors for the Xmas and Parish feast. The Priest got bucked because this has been the habbit of the 'chettan' never gets involoved construtively in any aspects of the chruch but is always is criticising. Any way there was an heated argument which ended up with the 'chettan' stating that he would to some other chruch and he threw the ';cover in fronty of the priest. I then went to the chettan sat along with him in his car and tried to counsel him ( I am basically a Social Worker by profession). He was passified and agreed to come again. Praise my Lord along with me. The more exciting part of the how the Spirit worked is from what happened after this. the chettan and his family left. My parish priest called me up and then we had a nice sharing (He and me a quite pally). After I told him some of the mistakes he and the earlier priest had done and how the 'chettan' had been HURT by thier behaviour. All through out the discussion i was being poked from in side to ask the Father whether I should pray. I suggested to the Father that why not pray? He readily agreed. Both of us prayed for some time. After the prayer Fr. suggested that i should acompany him to the chettan's home. to tell you''l frankly I was not that intrested as i was not sure how the chettan would react and also what exactly the Fr. wanted to say to the chettan. We went the chettan's home which is about 15 K.Ms from Satara. But he had not yet reached home . We waited for nearly half an hour but they did not come. So the Fr. and me decided to return. On the way back Fr. suggested that we visit another home where the3re was apossibility that the chettan would be there. All these places are quite far off from one another. Well the chettan was there. The Father just said hello --- chetta, "sorry ketto.., lets patch up and begin again". I could not stop the tears in my eyes. A small thing I had tried for conciliation and i was to witness the healing hand of MY MIGHTY LORD. Love and Prayers. Joseph/ Satara/ India.
