I'm sure that was using a VW and not and not the heavier 0-200 or Corvair.

Way over built !!! The firewall itself is not what breaks it's the
attachment to the
boat. see: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32133949/100_1231.JPG

Jeanette Rand once stated that an engineer once analyzed the firewall
and it is good for 22G's. I did add a single layer of KR clothe to
the vertical edges with a two inch overlap on the ply sides. I also
used 3/4" X 3 1/2" spruce cross pieces top and bottom instead of the
5/8" X 3" spruce. My 0-200 hangs on a HAPI VW mount which does not
place the mount near the longerons but more to the center of the
firewall. Marty Roberts had a stock firewall with the same mount for
his 0-200 and pulled 6 G's. Is thats strong enough?

I'll admit to never having made a hard landing :-) to check my setup
and have not pulled more than maybe 2.5 or 3 G's ever but my engine
is still hanging out there.

KR> Attach Wood firewall to frame

2016-09-09 Thread n357cj
Guys ,
This seems all correct information to me and the one point that may be a missed
concideration is that the firewall is not the final and ultimate structural
component. The bolts that hold the engine mount to the firewall is where the
concern for proper building is focused. The firewall plywood essentially
becomes one big gusset holding the entire front structure in rack.

That should have said "good clamp design". You do want even pressure over the
entire firewall. With were the firewall is there is no obvious place to clamp
it down. ?
I have seen pictures of builders shaving a little off the front of the frame
with a router to get a perfect glue joint with the fire wall.

You always want to let the epoxy soak into both surfaces before lightly
clamping down.?

And if you get squeeze out, you know your joint is not starved

No beefing up of the firewall area is required. In fact, the 3x3 angle
is not even needed if the engine mount is properly designed to connect
at the corners, rather than out near the middle like the original
design. See the photo at the bottom of http://www.n56ml.com/kfuse.html

KR> last chance ENOUGH!!!!!! - SOLUTION

2016-09-09 Thread Chris Prata
I have suggested a computerized solution that adds a unique string of
characters after a message before it is sent to the list, then any replies are
screened for that and everything after that string is deleted.

If the poster wants to include something from the original they will have to
cut and paste it to above the "delete after" string.

That reverses this from an unwinnable "active" rule to follow to an automatic
"passive" action where the poster has to do nothing to comply, and when they
want to include something from the original msg. they have to cut and paste.

But what do I know.

Thanks, Joel. I do appreciate the support.

Intending this as positive, constructive feedback, I did have to cringe
a bit though since you didn't trim any of the previous text (leaving the
entire message I sent in your reply), and you put your reply at the top,
which is exactly what I was saying not to do... :-)

Guys and gals, can we put our collective minds together and come up with
a way to solve this issue? What Mark is asking us to is very simple,
and I think we should be able to help the group to learn how to reply to
the messages properly.

On Android, touch the reply arrow like always. Then touch the small up
arrow, top right of the reply box. This will show you the quoted text. Now,
touch and hold your finger on the first part of the block of quoted text
until a selection bar pops up. Touch "select all". Start typing our hit
the back space key to get rid of everything selected. You're done.
