KR> diabetes type 2.
Hi Netters. Let's face it, our life style of high carbs and low exercise is producing a nation of potential diabetes type 2 population. This problem can be avoided, if you are too late, it can be stopped. If you work at it, it can be "backed up". I know because I am an example. When I found that I was type 2, I was devistated. A good diet, low in carbs and high in protein helps. Smooth out the blood sugar, avoid high and lows by regular eating. I added an herbal called "gymnema sylvester" called the "sugar destroyer" from India. It is said that after 18 months it will regenerate the Islets of Langerhans in your pancreas. These are the cells that produce insulin. I recently had a medical. My fasting blood sugar was 6.2 My Doctor said that if it had been 6.0, it would have been perfect. The previous test was 7.1. I take no medication but I do exercise daily. This is very important. The bottom line, it is up to the Doctor to prove that you are diabetic. Tell him nothing. If you really want your Pilots Licence back then work at it. You can return to normal again. You can fly your KR again and hopefully for many years to come. Who said that it is easy , remember "no Pain -no Gain", it is up to you. Harold Woods Orillia, ON, Canada haroldwo...@rogers.com

Harold, thanks for the info and encouragement. Please keep us posted on how it goes long term, and also if you notice any effect from the herbal supplement. Oh boy! there are several things that have been said about diabetes. Like some one said GO TO AOPA!!! The medical section has everything that you have to do. If you DO NOT ;-) take medicine then you are qualified. the FAA takes up to a 9.9 A1C results (VERY bad control) at about 6.9 or so the doctor will want to put you on medicine. the aopa list says that 7.4 or below the FAA conceders normal for a diabetic. Plan on having to supply an EKG about $75.00 in these parts and maybe some blood work Long story short you CAN get your medical. Find a flight surgeon that will work with you and a Primary care doctor that will word your "report from treating physician" the way that it needs to be. ANY one with Diabetes and high blood pressure please contact me off line for any tips that I can give. Having just jumped thru the FAA hoops and renewed for two more years. Brian G. Hi everyone, I have a friend who is trying to get his medical to start flight training and has diabetes. He has to take insulin up to 2 times a day but his condition is well under control. I flew him to Huntsville to take his daughter to see his ex wife and he was hooked. He went to his doctor and had all of his test updated and took them and all of his records from the last 5 or 10 years to the AME who told him that as far as he was concerned he would give him his certificate on the spot. He sent all the info to the FAA and a few weeks later got a letter stating that he was temporarily turned down. According to the diabetes association web site on flight medicals and the FAA website he should qualify hands down. Does anyone out there have any advice? He really has the flying fever, (we all know what that feels like) I think anyone who wants to fly that badly should have the chance. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks John Godwin PS. Sorry there was no KR content in what I wrote above but I have put my fuselage sides on the jig and am in the process of truing it up for gluing. I sure will be happy when that is finished. > [Original Message] > From: Brian G. First thing you should do is call the hotline number on the back of your AOPA card and ask to speak to one of their medical certification experts. They answer those questions all day long and can help you better than anybody else. If you are not already an AOPA member then calling the number should be the second thing you do. For those of you that have not called AOPA for help and advice before give them a call the next time you have a question. Aside from being able to answer nearly anything they even have booklets they will send you free on a bunch of different subjects. I have gotten them on business use of airplanes, aircraft partnerships, taxes and aircraft use, and a variety of other subjects. I don't take medication at all, and control my desease with diet and exercise. When I go in for my 3rd class med, what do I say on the application as far as the Diabetes is concerned? I am concerned that some yahoo Doctor will exclude me even though I have no real problems, now that I watch my diet. Diabetes that's under control will not prevent your medical approval. Misleading answers on your medical application can come back to bite you, and could void your insurance. Just have your physician monitor you and write a letter for the AME that says you're in good control. For yourself, make sure you're in good control anyway. Been there, done that.
