[libreoffice-l10n] Guarani Language

2014-10-20 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello,

My name is Giovanni and I'm Paraguayan citizen. I was wondering if someone
already started translating LO to Guarani. If not I would like to start it.

Guarani is Paraguay's second official language. It is spoken by 90% of
Paraguayans. Some areas of the country only speak Guarani (45%). It's the
only country in the Americas that speaks a native language. Even thou the
native indian population in the country is a bit less than 100,000.

Sadly Guarani is seen as a street language, it does not reach professional
status like Spanish or English.

I believe if LibreOffice has a Guarani version it will make a big impact in
the country, specially in rural areas. Now days it's a requirement to know
how to use Office.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do.

Thank you

-Giovanni

[libreoffice-l10n] Most important folders (Guarani)

2015-01-19 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello everyone,

I'm currently doing the translation for the Guarani (gn) language. So far
I've completed 10%.

I was wondering what are the most important folders to start with? And what
percentage of completion is needed to make the language available.

Thank you.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Most important folders (Guarani)

2015-01-21 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello Tom

Thanks for your reply.

The Guarani language was just added to Pootle a bit less than 3 months ago.
I'm using Ubuntu and it won't find the l10n-gn language. I'm not sure if it
has something to do with the PPA or simply just isn't available to download
yet.

Again, thanks for your reply.

Thanks everyone for their reply

Sveinn those are the exact folders that I was looking for.

Also, I do find it a bit weird that I couldn't even find the 'gn' package
on the pre-release packages.

Is there anything I can do?

Hello Michael

I don't think its a Ubuntu issue. I was checking the languages available
for the 4.4 version (

doesn't show up there either nor on

Bugzilla already claims they have a Guarani Locale.

*"We already have gug-PY locale data, see

*
If you want to update the data please submit a diff against the
current revision instead of an entire file. Thanks."*

I'm not quite sure now what am I still missing to make 'gn' pack available.

[libreoffice-l10n] Pootle Slow

2015-01-28 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello everyone,

I have been experience some difficulties with Pootle lately. The past few
days it seems to be very slow and laggy, sometimes it even freezes.

At first I thought it was my internet connection but then I realized it
wasn't. All the my other internet activities were just like every other day.

I was wondering if anyone is having the same issue?

[libreoffice-l10n] Someone keeps messing up the Guarani pack on pootle

2015-01-30 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello

Someone messed with the SW folder and translated a good hand to what it
seems an Asian language (korea, chinese, japanese, etc)

https://translations.documentfoundation.org/gn/libo_ui/sw/

This is the second time someone does this to the GN pack.

Someone else also did translate the Starmath folder to Italian.

https://translations.documentfoundation.org/gn/libo_ui/translate/starmath/

Both issues keeps messing me up. Is there any way of solving this??

[libreoffice-l10n] Starmath folder

2015-02-09 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello,

I have peculiar question

In Guarani (indigenous language) there's no real technical words for math,
calcs, etc... There is a possibility to create words but people might not
understand. That's because the language does not have professional status
like Spanish (or English).

I did translate the entire 'Formula' folder to Spanish 'cause that's how
its taught in school and also for the same reason that I explain before.

I was wondering if the 'Starmath' folder appears in formula style on Calc
or in paragraph form? Cause if it shows up in a phrase, then it is a bit
possible to make up some words in Guarani.

Thanks

[libreoffice-l10n] Make Guarani available

2015-02-14 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello

I have sent an email before asking the Guarani pack to be able to download.

They told me they were going to change the local code on pootle from Gn to
Gug but never got done.

I have reached 33% now, and have completed the sw, sd, sc (uiconfig)
folders and have done some work on other folders.

I would like to know if there's anything I can do to make the pack

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Make Guarani available

2015-02-26 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello again.

Quick question about the 'Master' build.

Does the master build gets updated everytime i work on pootle or does it
have to be updated manually?

Last time it was added to master when it was only 15% completed.

I just finished building and I'm pretty happy the way its looking. I have
completed writer/presentation/draw (have corrected some errors too) and
just about to finish calc now .

I was the guarani master could be update until today if possible.

PS: Thanks Andras for all the help

I just downloaded the po zip and extracted to /core/translations/

When i go to language settings and choose Guarani it still gives me the old
translation.

I can't really figure out how to apply the new one.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Make Guarani available

2015-02-28 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello again,

I've tried just about everything.

I tried building from scratch again and unziping the Pootle files on the
'translations' folder before the build. That didn't work.
I tried make clean && make and that didn't work either.
I tried 'make translations' and it build one POT file but didn't make any
effect.
So far it only looks like my first build back when I was at 15% (on pootle).

I am getting two errors but I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the
translation

I don't know what it could be.

[libreoffice-l10n] Language packs 4.5

2015-03-26 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello

Version 4.5 beta is coming soon (April I think). Andras mentioned once that
all newer languages are coming on the next version.

My question is - I've been working on pootle on the 4.4 UI version since
there's no 4.5 UI. Does that mean that will also be able on 4.4 and 4.5?

Also, a completely different question.

Is it possible to build a Windows or Mac installer for LO on Linux? I would
like to test it if that's possible.

Thanks

Will the Guarani package make it to the 5.0 release or is there a minimum
percentage requirements for newer languages?

Thanks

[libreoffice-l10n] New Language Dictionary/Spelling/AutoCorrect

2015-05-29 Thread Giovanni Caligaris

Hello group

I would like to have a Guarani dictionary/spelling/autocorrect in the
future. I was wondering how to do it. Is it different for every OS
(linux/win/mac)? Is it a Pootle project?

Thanks

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] New Language Dictionary/Spelling/AutoCorrect

2015-05-29 Thread Giovanni Caligaris

Hello Rimas

Thanks for answering

It seems there is (or at least
has been) a project on SourceForge to create such dictionaries for
Guarani: http://sourceforge.net/projects/guarani/. You may try
contacting the people behind that project to see if they have produced
anything of use. Even if not, perhaps they would be interested in
restarting.

I checked the link and it seems that it was a project that never started.
I have found this two links. I downloaded the zips and open them and it
looks like a spell checker. But I am not quite sure what it is.

http://crubadan.org/ws/gug.html
and
http://crubadan.org/ws/gn.html

Autocorrect is a third type of dictionary, which is also different than
the other two. I think creating this dictionary might be the easiest
task of the three: I have written a basic online tool in PHP which could
help you crowdsource suggestions for autocorrect. At least that's what
it does for me.

How can I create this?

No, these are different projects, which have nothing to do with Pootle.

LibreOffice, just like a bunch of software, uses Hunspell and/or MySpell
(http://hunspell.sourceforge.net/) dictionaries for spell checking. This
is regardless of the operating system in use. Making a spellcheck
dictionary is quite a big task by itself. It seems there is (or at least
has been) a project on SourceForge to create such dictionaries for
Guarani: http://sourceforge.net/projects/guarani/. You may try
contacting the people behind that project to see if they have produced
anything of use. Even if not, perhaps they would be interested in

If there is a spellchecker dictionary available for Guarani, with an
acceptable license, it might be possible to convert its files into
MySpell/HunSpell and use them.

Hyphenation dictionaries are another thing: they use a different format
and different data than the spellchecker dictionaries. I know for a fact
that TeX hyphenation dictionaries might be converted to a format
suitable for LibO, but perhaps it's not the only possible conversion. If
there is nothing to convert, such dictionary would have to be done from
scratch.

By the way, hyphenation dictionaries can also be used in other projects
(e.g. OpenOffice, Mozilla)

Hope this helps. Sorry for not posting any links. I hope someone better
familiar with our wiki can post pointers to further relevant information.

[libreoffice-l10n] Pootle Guarani

2015-06-09 Thread Giovanni Caligaris

Hello

I just logged in to the new Pootle server and I noticed that there is
two different Guarani's for LO 4.4 UI (Guarani Paraguayan - Gug) and LO
Master UI (Guarani Old - Gn). I was wondering which one should I
continue working on? Which one is the one that will be released for the
5.0 version?

New Pootle looks great

Cheers!

[libreoffice-l10n] LO 5.0 new languages

2015-07-15 Thread Giovanni Caligaris

Hello

I've been following the development of LO 5.0 very closely lately and I
am aware that RC4 should be starting within the next few days.

I am using linux and have been testing LO 5.0 from the pre-releases ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-prereleases).
I am very excited for this new version and so far it is looking great! I
was wondering if any of the new languages will be added to ppa anytime
soon? I noticed the guarani l10n-gug is still not there, and maybe other
new languages as well.

Personally, I am not a fan of building LO from source, mostly because
internet here in Paraguay is slow and also because it takes too long to
build.

Thanks

Makes perfect sense. Also since LibreOffice has a very wide range of
application, some terms in one application transtales differently (e.g.
outline in Calc, outline in Writer, outline in graphics, etc...), so it
may be interesitng to tag accordingly.

[libreoffice-l10n] Outdated Pootle translations

Hello

I've been trying to test the most updated versions of l10n-gug but every
time I've downloaded and compiled again it keeps giving me an old
outdated translation from weeks ago.

https://translations.documentfoundation.org/gug/libo44_ui/

I have compiled in other language codes such as "ca", "gu" and others to
make sure it wasn't just compiling the same "gug" translation from before.

I am not sure if its because the zips from pootle are not getting
updated or simply my computer is just not building well.

I didn't have this problem back with the older pootle. Just recently

Also, I just installed LO 5.0.0.5 from the link above (DEB). I also
noticed that the "gug" language pack from this site it is even more
outdated. It worries me a bit, I hope thats not the translation that
will be in the release date. I have been making tons of progress.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Outdated Pootle translations

2015-08-02 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Back when I first started translating there was an issue with the
language code. It was called 'gn' but on the master branch. Few months
later they told me that it was going to be renamed to 'gug' and it was
transfer to libo44_ui and told me to leave the master branch alone.
Later renamed Guarani (old) 'gn'. As you can see from the link above.

https://translations.documentfoundation.org/projects/libo_ui/

I just don't want it to be confusion a few days before the release.
That's all.

[libreoffice-l10n] Guarani Thesaurus

Hello Everyone

I've created a Guarani thesaurus extension that has about 1500 words. I
know the Windows installation automatically includes the language
packages for auto correct and thesaurus. I am wondering if the extension
I made could be included to the next LO 5.1 release.

This way, I am slowly managing to make LibreOffice in Guarani a complete
and only Office Suite in an indigenous language. I know of someone who
has created the auto-correct extension for Guarani and I am trying hard
to convince him to also include his work to LO.

I am not sure if this is related to LibreOffice but I've also created a
Guarani keyboard layout for Win/Linux/Mac adding all the missing vocals
and symbols (ãẽĩõũỹḡ ₲ Paraguayan money sign), making it much easier for
Guarani speakers to type their documents.

If anyone is interested this is my twitter account

[libreoffice-l10n] Thunderbird

2015-12-01 Thread Giovanni Caligaris

Hello

I know I shouldn't be talking about this in the l10n mailing list, but I
am not subscribed to the other list.

I saw that Mozilla wants to ditch Thunderbird because it's too much work
for them to maintain it.

http://news.softpedia.com/news/mozilla-wants-to-ditch-thunderbird-email-client-to-focus-more-on-firefox-496980.shtml

I've heard some rumors in the past that TDF might wants take over. If
that's the case, I think it's a great idea. That will be in my opinion
the missing app that LO needs and I also believe the LO community will
do a much better work developing.

Does anyone know anything about this or has any opinions?

Well, the answer to both in a sense is "in circumstance which at the moment
force you on to Google Docs or Office 365". While I agree that the cloud is
over-hyped, it has it's uses. And as always, regular backups are the thing,

So yes, I'd love LO in an online form ... if the localizations come with it.

[libreoffice-l10n] Paraguayan Gov and LO

2016-07-25 Thread Giovanni Caligaris

Hello Everyone

Recently I have reached out for the second time to the Paraguayan
Government (Secretary of Politics and Linguistics) about joining forces
to complete the localization of Guarani.

Today I have received their confirmation to go forward with the
translation project.

It reads as follows:

Estimado Giovanni:

English translation

Dear Giovanni:

After talking with the BoD of the Polytechnical School (Universidad
Nacional de Asuncion) we have their consent (to move forward with the
translation). As of now, we are waiting for the approval of our
renewed agreement with the University, from there we can begin to work
on this project with the same scheme followed for the translation of
Mozilla.

We are excited about this possibility and think that within a month we
could move forward with the development of this project. To start, we
will finish the final stage of the translation. From there we will
start a process of validation which we will do in two parts (the
initial one you worked on and the second stage completed by us in an
inter-agency effort with the University). We are also looking forward
to the possibility of being able to use the Guarani keyboard layout
that you designed, especially knowing that there will be no cost.

Hoping to continue communication to discuss more work, wishing you
many blessings and success.

Maitei rory!!

Ladislaa

Hopefully this will lead to the Dictionary and Documentation and other
projects of LibreOffice in Guarani.

I'll keep the community updated as things progress.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Currency in Calc?

2016-08-05 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
I would also like to add a currency simbol.

The Paraguayan currency simbol can either be G. Gs. or ₲

The ₲ is missing and I was also looking to add it in pootle but I couldn't
find it. Can it be add?

PYG ₲ Guarani (Paraguay)

I also noticed that it says
- PYG G Spanish (Paraguay)
- PYG Gs Guarani (Paraguay)

They should both be Guarani and not Spanish.

[libreoffice-l10n] LibreOffice, Paraguayan Government & Guarani Institutions

2016-09-02 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello Everyone,

Today I had a Hangouts meeting with the Paraguayan Gov and other Guarani
academies. They are joining forces to complete the Guarani localization
project.

Today I gave them a rundown of the project, the issues they may face in the
future and how to solve them, and how to increase efficiency.

These are the institutions who will be working:
-Secretaria De Politicas y Linguisticas (Paraguayan Gov)
-Facultad Politecnica (Universidad Nacional de Asuncion)
-Ateneo de Lengua y Cultura Guarani
-Instituto Superior de Lenguas UNA

Previously these institutions have translated Mozilla Firefox to Guarani
and they are excited for this new challenge.

Here are some pictures of the group.

2016-09-27 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello

I recently have builded LO from source by following this tutorial.

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/BuildingOnLinux#Checking_out_a_release_branch

Once a week I would like to update my build so I can check the work I've
been doing in Pootle.

How do I do that?

When i was building from source I did it like this

./autogen.sh --with-lang=gug
make

[libreoffice-l10n] Guarani 5.2.2

2016-10-08 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello everyone,

Before v5.2.2 was released I did some translation in Pootle (master). I
recently just noticed that some of the strings that I translated did not
make it in the new version.

Example of the strings I translated

VGTT5 - Drop a document here or pick an app from the left side to create
one.
qriCn - Remote Files

How can I update this so they will be released in the next version?

[libreoffice-l10n] Error special characters

2016-11-25 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello

I managed to get all the special character I needed for the l10n-gug team.
I am having one issue trying to get "g̃" (also in uppercase) to work. I
think that's a unicode issue.

When they were translating Firefox to Guarani in Pootle, they had that same
issue and they had to ask Mozilla to solve that letter issue.

Can it be done the same for the LO Poolte?

[libreoffice-l10n] Hunspell Guarani

2016-11-27 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello everyone

I am currently developing a Guarani autocorrect in Hunspell. At the moment
I am having one final issue.

When testing in Hunspell, it won't detect words with g̃. Olivier filed a
bug for me and I also filed one, LO can't handle g̃ as well.

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104195

I know this is a Character Set issue but I can't seem to solve it.

Adobe Latin-4 supports this

https://adobe-type-tools.github.io/adobe-latin-charsets/adobe-latin-4.html

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G̃

If anyone wants to test it, you can download the files from here

I just noticed the Master string for Guarani has some extra files

These are the files

 formdlg.po
 sidebar.po
 sv_SE.po

They are right under the xmlsecurity folder. Is that supposed to be there?

[libreoffice-l10n] LibreOffice Guarani on CNN

2016-12-05 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
I noticed CNN made a 1 hr report on the Paraguayan culture. On the the part
of the video they explain the importance of the Guarani language in the
country and how its having a technological impact as well.

If you skip to minute 2:09 you can see David Galeano, part of the Guarani
l10n team. He talks about the importance of the language. Later the
reporter explains how some applications are being ported to Guarani such as
Firefox, Wikipedia and makes a hge mistake by saying "and Microsoft
Office"

Great... thanks for nothing CNN hahahahahahha.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdLsdvaidag

On the positive side, I am currently working on creating the first Guarani
Autocorrect Dictionary (Hunspell - 5000 words) so it can be part of the 5.3
release.

[libreoffice-l10n] Guarani Linux vs Windows

2017-02-05 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hello

I just installed the 5.3 version of LO on Windows and my Ubuntu machine.
I've noticed the translation for the home screen in the Windows version it
still in English, even though I have done the translation. On my Ubuntu
installation it looks fine.

I don't know if this has something to do because I installed the Windows
version on top the old 5.2 version?

I'm attaching two files so you can see the difference.

Does any one know why this is happening?

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Guarani Linux vs Windows

2017-02-05 Thread Giovanni Caligaris
Hey Tom

As far as I know, the Windows installer offers the choice to install
specific language packages. I have selected the Guarani one and it does
install the package. The only difference I see in comparison with the
Ubuntu installation is the Welcome message at the Home screen, everything
else looks fine.

I'm thinking the language package for the Windows version might not be
updated.
