RE: [lace] Part 2 Vamberk again very LOOONG
Hi Dora, I'm really enjoying reading about your adventures. I hope there are more to come. I can almost imagine myself there with you! Janette on a chilly Canberra night in Australia -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Schuette.Fifty Sent: Saturday, July 29, 2006 11:03 AM To: lace@arachne.com Subject: [lace] Part 2 Vamberk again very LOOONG The hotel was very nice but of course we were very hungry and it was not too late to get a meal. I asked at the reception if there were any lacemakers staying but she did not know. At last somebody understood us. Well, we went up in the lift and I hoped to get into my room. Of course She I mean Glenys who was in charge gave me the key, pointed to the room next door and left me. I could not get in, asked for her help, she could not get in, down she went and fetched the receptionist for help. I can not describe my embarrasment, when the help went to a complete different door, which of course opened. RE: [lace] Plays about Lacemakers
-Quote - Does anyone know any more instances of lace in drama? Bridget, in Watford, England. Just catching up with digests after a week away. I had to come out of lurkdom for this one. I costumed a show many years ago called Men at Arms based on a book by Terry Pratchett, and one of the characters in a high office made lace. I gave him a lesson so that he could make some semblance of lacemaking on stage, rigged up my pillow with some lace and bobbins and with everything firmly attached it made it on stage! After every show I fixed up the lace he 'made' and it was ready for the next show. He didn't do a bad job at looking like he knew what he was doing either! Hi Secret Pal, I received your parcel a couple of weeks ago but my computer spat the dummy and I haven't been able to receive emails in the normal manner and haven't been able to send any at all. It has just started to work on it's own (just as I threatened it with inhiliation). So I'm sorry I haven't sent a thankyou to you sooner, but I am doing it now before the computer changes it's mind and stops working again!! Yes I am always loosing needles all over the place so the big packet is very useful. I have packed some into a container to go in my Theatre kit and the rest are safe in my sewing box. The beautiful fridge magnet went straight onto the fridge. My Mum always says I have too many but how can you when there are so many lovely ones like yours around?! The Linen thread is set aside for a lace piece I have wanted to do for a while that needs linen, so it was good timing. The recipe cards are a great idea and I've already used a couple of them for some soup recipes that a couple of my friends wanted. And last but not least the needle grabbers...where have they been when I've needed them all these years! I haven't seen them before and they will be in use almost constantly. I am about to help costume Camelot and they will be so handy. There is no way they are going to be loaned to anyone! What shows have you been working on? Hi Secret Pal, I received my package from you just before Easter and it was full of wonderful things. The silk thread made me gasp and I will be using it soon. I have a Chantilly pattern picked out ready to go. I just needed the thread and now I have it! The card is always useful. Thankyou for sending me some more. (always better than cereal box cardboard!) You must have been at the last workshop because someone had a bobbin bag just like the one you sent me and we all wanted one. I know a couple of people who will be jealous! Lastly...thank you for the beautiful piece of Torchon. Did you make it? It is so pretty. Thanks for brightening my day again. Janette in Australia -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Hi Secret Pal, I received my parcel last week safe and sound! The thread will be used after the workshop next week. The beads are beautiful!! I had to hold off one of my friends when I told her about them as she wants them! The wire will be very useful as will the pricking board. I've never had any before as I usually just use cereal packet cardboard, so this will be much better. Better not mention the chocolates or I will just have to have another one and I am trying to make them last. (Yum). Thanks for another lovely parcel. To my new Secret Pal, Thanks so much for the parcel I received last week. The bobbins are lovely. I'm not sure if I will spangle them yet but as I am doing a chantilly workshop soon with Islke they will come in very useful! Thread is always great to get and I didn't have that size. Hi Secret Pal. Thanks for the wonderful parcel I just received. The mini lifesavers are delicious. The thread and needle case are great and the bobbins are just about to be wound for my next project (if I can convince my cat that he really doesn't want to sleep on top of my lace!). The non stick mat is just what I needed to put underneath the pedal of my sewing machine. Now I don't have to chase it all over the floor when I am sewing. The cross stitch is a handy size to do when I am baby sitting and the necklace is very pretty. I promise that I won't open my Christmas present until the 25th, in fact I am handing it over to my sister to look after (we are having Christmas at her place this year) so that I am not tempted to peek! Hi Secret pal! I received your parcel last week and then had to go interstate to look after my neice and nephew so couldn't send you a note until now. Customs opened the parcel and took the pot pourri as it had a pine cone in it, but I received everything else..The sours are in my handbag and I only let good freinds have one! They are too yummy to give many away. Thanks for the bobbins, they are with the other pair waiting for my next project. The towel is lovely and the cross stitch is so cute. Hello Secret Pal, I didn't mind your parcel being late as it just added to the anticipation! I received it at the beginning of this week and it was great to sit down, relax and open my parcel. I really like the lace bobbin shaped bookmark you made. It is already in one of my books. The pair of bobbins are sitting in a drawer ready for my next project which won't be too far away now that things aren't quite so hectic at the moment :) I had one set of flat sided continentals and now I have 2 sets. I will keep adding to the collection and soon it will be a lot easier to make lace with lots of sewings without getting my spangles caught! The lip balm is sooo good. I hope you are making it to sell. The soap is in the bathroom and smells lovely. I haven't listened to the cd or tape yet but I will soon. I have heard of 'The Soldier's Tale' before but never heard it so I am looking forward to doing so. Customs had a look at my parcel this time but they didn't take anything so I get to have all the altoids. You must have known that I collect tins, so the one that the altoids are in will be used again. Please thank your friend for the keychain she made. Hello to my secret pal in the US, I received this months parcel yesterday and it is lovely. All those pretty things that you have given me. The doll keychain is too nice to go on my keys as it may get damaged so I am going to put in on my basket for everyone to see. The sachet smells lovely and I'm just about to run out of paper for my shopping lists, so the magnetic notepad is soon to be on my fridge ready for use. My friend has tried to pinch the stick on sequins but she can't have them! The hair clip and necklace set are both very pretty too. The skittles are delicious and I can see why you like them so much. RE: [lace] fun at home!!!
Hi Irene, Have you thought of putting on some of your music(loudly) when you make lace! Give him a taste of his own medicine and maybe teach him what music is supposed to be. I suppose you should check with the other neighbours first. I have a mat that has been sitting on my pillow for a while and I really should get stuck into it but I'm busy at the moment sewing costumes for a show. To my secret pal, Thanks for my first parcel. The chatalien (sp) is great. I have this habit when I make costumes of missing threads, so when the actors are about to go on stage you can usually find me with a pair of scissors is one hand cutting off the loose threads! Now I won't loose them by putting them down somewhere backstage and forgetting where I left them! The note pad has already been used and as you say...chocolate is always good. The angel is lovely. It is hanging on the inside of my front door. I have another angel hanging on another door. (hmmm sounds like the start of a collection.) The cross stitch is cute and I really like the earrings. Hi Secret Pal, I started to open the parcel and this wonderful scent surrounded me. I am really looking forward to trying the ginger and lemon infusion. It smells so good and the weather is getting colder so it is just the right time to have it. The Lindt chocolate is a wicked indulgence and I am enjoying every bite! The black cat is so cute. It will find a home on my computer so I can admire it. The frame is just crying out to have a photo of Lucy and Toby in it so when I get a good photo of the two of them together (easier said than done to get them in the same place at the same time AND looking cute!) in it will go. The cork is already in use and the bobbins are ready for my next project. Did you paint them? They are lovely. At the moment I am doing a lot of Penelope stitches and I can do them faster than doing the lace wrong in the first place! So when this mat is finished they will be on the pillow. I'm looking forward to finding out who you really are. Until then have a lovely month and thanks for the surprises each month. Hi Secret Pal, Well your parcel arrived with perfect timing as usual! This year is not turning out as expected but your parcels are always a bright spot on the horizon! I received the parcel on Monday morning, the night before (Sun.) my home was broken into and all my medications were taken along with my Mums' wedding ring and an Opal ring that my Dad had given her just after they were married along with some other bits and pieces. They also took a wonderful Lace bookmark that was sent to me by a previous secret pal (hi Brenda) that I was really upset about. Then I discovered the jewellery was missing and that was me gone for the day :( . I suspect druggies were involved as they went straight for the tablets (mind you why they would want ant acids and the case for my eyeglasses is beyond me) So...enough feeling sorry for myself. I think I will put the little elephant near the front door. I think they are supposed to bring good luck. The cards are lovely and I think my SIL will get the first one. The candles look just like pebbles, they are amazing. I had been recently looking at that exact packet of buttons so now I don't need to buy them! The address book is on stand by for when my old one finally falls apart, which won't be long now. And I really like the gold gel pen so it will be well used. Sounds like your trip was full of adventures. I hope you took lots of pictures. Thanks for cheering me up once again. Hi secret pal, Your parcel has brightened my day. I have been ill for quite a while and feeling miserable so the parcel was a great distraction! The choc/mint drink I will have to leave until I am better and can taste it and the same goes for the perfume (except that I won't be drinking it (BG)). I am looking forward to both. Of course the chocolate eggs had to be eaten as they go off quickly and chocolate is always good if you are not well (vbg)! The threads are gorgeous, the puzzle book is already in use and the photo album is so pretty. I still haven't decided what to use the notebook for that you sent me in the last parcel as I want to use it for something special. I secretly wonder how the potpourri that was attached to it was allowed through customs but I am not complaining. I had to bury one of my kittens on his 1st birthday a few weeks ago which was very sad, but I now have a pure white kitten called Toby to keep Lucy company, though I am covered in scratches from his claws. (David can relate to that with his new kitten!). Lucy has been eating her treats that you sent so her nose is not too out of joint with the new addition to the family. I hope you enjoy your trip. I thought you might all like to hear how some of our spiders went with their lace at the Show. Noelene has a 1st place and Champion for her tatted bonnet and her Torchon mat received a third place. I loved the bonnet it was magnificent! The torchon mat was larger than I expected and it was lovely too. Liz Ligeti has a Highly Commended for her needlelace mat, which I thought should have won first prize and a 2nd place for her 3 medallions that I really enjoyed looking at. They grabbed your attention straight away. She also received a 1st, and 2 champion ribbons AND the Canberra Lacemakers Trophy for her square needlelace mat. Jenny Rees also received a ribbon and I'm sorry Jenny I forgot to write down which one but it was a lovely fine mat. What a way to go girls! Congratulations to all of you. [lace] Lace Pillow Survey
I've been enjoying this thread and the one about UFO's. I have one ufo that I got so fed up with that after 5 years I removed it from the pillow with the justification that I could always repin it and finish it (haha) I have four cookie pillows one of which is full of straw I think. It is much heavier that the others I have and has a wooden base. I was having trouble with storage as I live in a flat and don't have much room, so I spoke to a friend of mine who made me a box with several shelves so that I could just slide my pillows in. He even made them high enough so that I could still have my divider pins in. He is a wise man because he made a few extra shelves for me just in case I acquired any more pillows! I have a question and feel free to contact me off list. I would like to have a travel roller pillow and a block pillow but knowing me I won't get round to making them. Does anyone know of any suppliers or private makers in Australia who may be able to do it for me. Here is another piece of 'Lace Making ' equipment being sold on ebay. Looks more like a french knitting tool to me. It is a little fancier that the ones I made as a little girl when I used either a thread spool or the cardboard middle of a toilet paper roll! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemcategory=114item=3294596552rd=1 Janette in icy Canberra where I expect the bird bath will be frozen solid in the morning. - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: [lace] group entry
Hey Noelene, I'm disappointed in you. You should know there are two territories in Australia! Janette (who lives in one of them. Even though we get the wind off your snow in winter!) -Original Message- From: W N Lafferty [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, June 02, 2004 7:33 AM To: Helene Gannac; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject:[lace] group entry And there are seven states, plus one territory, here in Australia. How 'bout that, Oz spiders? [lace] FW: Another wedding dress on ebay
I found another of those wedding dresses on ebay. This one is haunted! Janette Humphrey (in cold and windy Wanniassa ACT Australia where at 10.30 am the temperature has just dropped again and is perfect weather to stay inside and make lace!) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemcategory=56265item=4149599198rd=1 - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: [lace] Canberra Show
Hey Noelene, Congratulations! I'll be going in to the show on Friday so I'll be able to see your wonderful work. Janette in Canberra where it has cooled down enough so that I can finally do that mountain of ironing that has been breeding in the laundry! -Original Message- From: W N Lafferty [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, February 25, 2004 3:10 PM To: Lace Subject:[lace] Canberra Show Just been advised that I've taken off top prize for tatting at the Canberra Show, and I'm over the moon! [lace] lace and music
Happy New Year everyone. I was sitting here at my computer catching up on the arachne posts and listening to the t.v. when the announcer said that the next piece of music to be played from Vienna (I was listening to the New Year Concert) was a piece by Strauss called The Queens Lace Handkerchief ! I wonder if any other music has been written about lace? It was quite a pretty piece of music. Coming out of semi lurkdom for a short time. Janette Humphrey from Canberra (Australia) where it is 10.30 at night and the temperature still hasn't dropped below 30C. Not much chance of sleep tonight! - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
