No ifs regarding snow here, already have snow and another 5 to 10 cm
forecast for this afternoon, evening and tomorrow. No ifs regarding the
temperature it is -10c at the moment (9 a.m.) and will get a little warmer
during the day, but the temperature is due to drop later and drop more over
the next few days.

Good wishes for a happy holiday to everyone - turkey with boyfriend
tomorrow, then big family party on Boxing Day with about 30-40 people.

Have a Great Holiday, wherever you are -- and whatever holiday you celebrate.

And I promise I’ll be again more active on the list but at the moment I still

happened only 2 times in the past 80 years. However, they say it MIGHT be
possible this year -- IF the Christmas Eve clouds drip on us, and IF the temp
is low enough to freeze the drips, and IF we get up early enough on Christmas
that it hasn't melted yet --- THEN we can claim a White Christmas. That's a
lot of 'ifs' and I'm not holding my breath waiting.

I will be enjoying the day at home -- and plan to pull out my half-done lappet
to work on.

The day after Christmas, the lacemakers around here gather at a home to make
lace, talk and eat. It's a fun, casual day.

Merry Christmas!

[lace] Seasons Greetings

2014-12-28 Thread Janice Blair
Just got a Lace digest and was reading through the emails, and I saw the one
from Sue Harvey in Norfolk, UK, decided to go to the Arachne card exchange to
check out Rebecca's tree ornament. I was disappointed to see that there wasn't
a scan of it. Might I suggest that those people lucky enough to receive a card
that does not have a corresponding photo on the site, that they take a scan and
send it to Jenny. I would also like to thank Jenny for her work on collecting
all the cards together for us to see. I particularly like the robin card made
by Sue Vossier on page 8. Sue, is that pattern available anywhere?

Thanks to Gon for the weekly pattern, always interesting to see them and this
one is in christmas colors. Wow, Lyn, I am in awe. I could never work that
much lace that went into the altar cloths. I think making yardage is tedious
work when I have to do it once the novelty of learning the pattern has worn
off. I guess I just like the challenge of trying a new pattern but have a
short attention span. :-)

I did make a lace bracelet with beads just before Christmas for my daughter,
only to be told I never wear bracelets. Her loss, my gain. Just have to
look in my closet to see what I have that is blue to wear it with.

Enough ramblings while DH watches the soccer (football) on tv. I wish everyone
a happy, healthy and prosperous 2015 with lots of time to make more lace.

[lace] Seasons Greetings to all.

2014-12-05 Thread Elizabeth Ligeti
I am off on 2 weeks holiday tomorrow, so would like to take this opportunity
to wish the Seasons Greetings to everyone. How quickly this year has flown
by, but an enjoyable Lace year - as usual!!

I have just taken up Tatting again - after a few years break. Hmmm! Fingers
are not as nimble as they used to be, - but I am sure I will get used to it
again soon!! It is something small to take away with me, - besides some
filet lace to work on while sitting in our small boat in the middle of a
lake while DH does some fishing. My work is often more productive (but we
don't mention that!! :) )

I will have the laptop with me, so can keep in touch! I need my daily Lace
Fix (Arachne, Lace IOLI, and Needlelace Talk, as well as the Aussie lace
chat group.!)
I will also have my travel pillow with me - and a piece of Torchon on the go
from Last Xmas holiday!!!

All the Snail Mail will be held till we get home, so I will not be able to
acknowledge my Card Exchange till almost Xmas. Sorry about that, to whoever
I am paired with.

Regards from Liz in Melbourne, Oz.

[lace] Seasons Greetings

2010-12-24 Thread Elizabeth Ligeti
Seasons Greetings to everyone, from Sunny Mallacoota (a little tourist and
fishing town at the bottom right hand corner of the continent!)

It is a nice day here, and a lunch with the park owners and some other
friends from town will start soon! There is a covered BBQ area in the middle
of the caravan and cabin park where we will sit and enjoy a feast!

I would like to thank you all for the friendship, and information on this
list over the last 12 months. It is a pleasure to count myself a member of
Arachne.

Brian, - keep on with your emails. They are informative, and interesting,
and never mind the mistakes in spelling. I am learning a lot from them, as
the history of lace is very interesting, and now you have expanded that into
the history of lacemaking tools!

Noelene, - another beaut poem, Thank you. They always brighten the day a
lot!

Lace content - well, I have been doing some bobbin lace, put down the
holding stitches for my first piece of Amelia Ars lace, and got started on a
Knotted lace mat! So I have not been idle, - and I am doing some patchwork
while sitting in the boat while DH fishes. Bream fishing is like watching
grass grow, or paint dry!! I am a lot more productive than he is, most
days, although we have had some nice evening meals of freshly caught fish!

[lace] Seasons Greetings to all

2010-12-23 Thread Noelene Lafferty
Especially at Christmas,
Here's a greeting that brings
A whole lot of wishes
For life's nicest things-

May your lace give you pleasure
May your pins never bend
May the thread on your bobbins
Last right to the end.

May there always be prickings
And bobbins galore
And lacemaking friends
Coming in your front door.

And then through the New Year
May the same things hold true
So that each day is filled
With life's best things for you!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !
