RE: [lace] App for lace designers with Macs
Yes, Brenda, you're right.Lace RXP does work with BootCamp. Not being a Mac user, I don't know the other programmes mentioned by Janice, but I do know that, provided you have the "right" programmes on your Mac operating system, it is possible to use Lace RXP and indeed, other Windows-based programmes, on a Mac. I daresay it would work with BootCamp too, but I've gone down the Adobe Illustrator route now and I'm happy with it. You can make variants, such as reduce a "vierge" (or however that is claaed in English) to a roseground or whatever is in between. You can change the colors of threads to see how the threads run through the ground and plan some "Dick durch dunn" variation (http://tinyurl.com/4b935xg). These functions are "not yet implemented". Please stop suspecting and start reading: compare the "what" and "in practice" on the home page http://code.google.com/p/bobbinwork/ following the link to the issues might be a bit too technical for you but that could also shed some light on my not yet implemented intentions. Except solving technical puzzles I desperately need gui designers to help thinking. So Achim, a chance to turn your general critisism into something practical and reply to isssue 33 ;-) Jo - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] App for lace designers with Macs
I have had a look at eazydraw this weekend and I must admit it's really not for me. I have an old version of Illustrator which I shall stick with and as I am a student at present I shall take advantage of the Adobe 80% student discounts and get CS5 very soon. Re: [lace] App for lace designers with Macs
I do have a Mac and I also have Knipling (the Mac version) but like Jean I just don't get on with it and it's gathering dust on a shelf. From time to time I've looked at Jo's Bobbinwork, and had a dabble with EazyDraw but again I don't get on with them. Lace 2000/Lace R-XP has never been available for Mac. In the end I bit the bullet and bought Adobe Illustrator and I can do all I want with it including bending and stretching patterns drawn on conventional straight grids. It takes time to draw the basic pattern and I have several pre-drawn grids of dots to work with but the possibilities of what it can do are enormous. For three examples of what it can do see the patterns offered as the next free pattern on my website http://paternoster.orpheusweb.co.uk/lace/pattern/lacepattern.htm Brenda On 30 Jan 2011, at 08:24, Jean Nathan wrote: > I don't on a Mac, but I do own Knipling and Lace 2000/Lace R-XP. Re: [lace] App for lace designers with Macs
> If you want a vector drawing program, you are better off getting the free > open source Inkscape. Yuck! ... dont get me started :). First of all, it's not a native Mac application - it's a Linux port that uses X11, so it doesn't even have a proper menu and doesn't use the standard Mac keyboard shortcuts. If you're a long time Mac user (maybe even still knowing MacDraw), then this is certainly something you wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. I tried it - it's slow, it flickers and it's a work in progress that might never reach version 1.0 ... But please let's stop here, this is getting off topic, since there's quite a lot of applications that might work for lace design or just scaling and printing out scanned patterns - for people who like the typical Mac look and feel I still think EazyDraw might be a very good choice, since it's built around the features of OSX. Cheers, Achim. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. For help, write to arachne.modera...@gmail.com
