[lace-chat] SP Thanks
Hello to my secret pal in the US, I received this months parcel yesterday and it is lovely. All those pretty things that you have given me. The doll keychain is too nice to go on my keys as it may get damaged so I am going to put in on my basket for everyone to see. The sachet smells lovely and I'm just about to run out of paper for my shopping lists, so the magnetic notepad is soon to be on my fridge ready for use. My friend has tried to pinch the stick on sequins but she can't have them! The hair clip and necklace set are both very pretty too. The skittles are delicious and I can see why you like them so much. We don't have the mint ones here in Australia yet but I hope they come here soon so that I can get some more!! Thanks again for my great parcel Janette in Australia -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. [lace-chat] Family History
The Story TellersWe are the chosen ones. (or why I am obsessed/fascinated with Genealogy. My feelings are that in each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors: to put flesh on their bones and make them live again..to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. To me, doing Genealogy, is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before us. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called, as it were, by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us - tell our story - and so we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried.? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family. You would be proud of us all. How many times have I walked up to a grave and somehow felt there was love for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond documenting facts. It goes to who I am and why I do the things I do. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us as a nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us that we might be born who we are: that we might remember them. And so we do, with love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence because we are them and they are us. So, as a scribe called, to tell the story of my family, it is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take their place in the long line of family story- tellers. That is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and put flesh on the bones. Love David -- No virus found in this outgoing message. [lace-chat] suffolk lacemakers
dear spiders i have just had the most awful shock. i have just been advised that the web site name, that was until recently, used by suffolk lacemakers has now been purchased by another company and is being used to directly link unsuspecting people to porn sites! we had used the web site for the past two years, but had begun having problems with access earlier this year, our isp hostfreeola were extremely unhelpful. when nominet informed me that to continue use of thename was going to cost £94.00 for a further two years I declined as we were unable to access the site and upload and/or download new or amended pages. i have contacted both the british police and nominet and have been informed that there is nothing i can do about this, it is legal! please be warned that there are companies out there watching for groups such as ourselves, church groups etc etc just waiting to get the domain name if it is allowed to lapse so that they can use it for their thoroughly disgusting and underhand purposes. please also know that this site is absolutely nothing to do with suffolk lacemakers or any member of suffolk lacemakers. nicky hoewener-townsend chairman suffolk lacemakers please excuse typing but i have had an accident and am only able to use one arm. [lace-chat] Irish Laces
Dear Spiders Have just been checking what is on BBC Radio 4 tonight to keep me company while I do the ironing and see that at 23.30 (GMT) there is the following; Journalist Nell McCafferty uncovers tales of hardship, endurance, skill and artistry as she charts the fortunes of Irish lace and the enterprising women who have developed and nourished the craft since the 1800s. Those of you who have computers with the necessary software can listen after the event if that is more convenient if you visit the BBC website and click on the appropriate links. Happy listening! [lace-chat] Secret Pal Thanks
Dear Secret Pal Many thanks for your lovely parcel of wonderful gifts. I will be totally honest and let you know that it arrived last Friday. I have however been busy entertaining my nephew visiting from Canada. My children were so excited to see him so I am sure you can imagine it has been a very hectic time. Now he is visiting other relatives and I have time to catch up! I am so sorry for the delay in acknowledging your parcel. I could smell the gorgeous aroma from the soap before I opened the parcel - that one will be kept for special soaks in the bath when I need to relax!! The beads are very special and will definitely come in useful. The sewing machine badge is fun and will go on my pin cushion. The quilting patten looks great. I have never attempted this sort of quilting before - but my mum has! Maybe she will do it for me We had a lovely holiday - thank you for asking. It was very relaxing and nice and hot too. Don't worry about getting my son's name wrong (it was very close anyway) - he definitely enjoyed the lollipop!! It lasted for ages!! Once again, thank you for everything. [lace-chat] spice question
Can anyone tell me how much mace a blade of mace is measurementwise? A recipe I want to use calls for a blade of mace...I have never seen a whole blade of mace. I can get ground mace which is just a crumbled blade, but I can't find an equivalent in tsp. TIA Sharon on sunny Vancouver Island No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Re: [lace-chat] spice question
I looked up this question in my Mrs. Beeton's All About Cookery book, but she only says that it is sold in either blade or ground form. So. I called my sister-in-law who does a lot of cooking. She asked what was being made - usually blade of mace is used in soups where you cook with it in the soup, but don't serve it (like bouquet garni or bay leaves). She suggested if you only have ground that you use a pinch (or two at the most). Hope this helps. Re: [lace-chat] spice question
My Book of ingredients says: Nutmeg is the dried seed of the fruit of an evergreen tree native to south-east Asia (Myristica fragrans). The seed has a lacy husk that we call 'mace'. The two are similar in flavour and aroma, but nutmeg grated is used for sweet dishes while mace is used for pickles and savoury dishes. It is a fine distinction but one of ancient usage. Nutmeg is available whole or powdered; mace comes in flakes 'blades' or powdered. A whole blade of mace is big enough to go around a nutmeg, so about an inch long. Crumbled up it's probably only about 1/4 teaspoonful. Sharon - I'll send you a scan of the pic of a blade of mace. [lace-chat] Fwd: It may save your life
Something to read and be aware of...to think about...and it may save your life someday. This is a report from a woman who works with criminals on a daily basis and should be aware of things like this Criminals are coming up with craftier, less threatening methods of attack, so we have to be extra cautious. Here's her story: I live in Alexandria, VA, but I often work in Lafayette, LA, staying with friends when I'm there. As you may know from America's Most Wanted TV program, as well as the news media, there is a serial killer in the Lafayette area. I just want to let you know about an incident that happened to me a few weeks ago, and could have been deadly. At first I didn't go to the police or anyone with it because I didn't realize how serious this encounter was. But since I work in a jail and I told a few people about it, it wasn't long before I was escorted into Internal Affairs to tell them my story. It was approximately 5:15 A.M. in Opelousas, La. I had stayed with a friend there and was on my way to work. I stopped at the Exxon/Blimpie Pie station to get gas. I got $10 gas and a Diet Coke. I took into the store two $5 bills and one $1 bill (just enough to get my stuff). As I pulled away from the store, a man approached my truck from the back side of the store (an unlit area). He was an approachable-looking man (clean cut, clean shaven, dressed well, etc.). He walked up to my window and knocked. Since I'm very paranoid and always looking for the rapist or killer, I didn't open the window. I just asked what he wanted. He raised a $5 bill to my window and said, You dropped this. Since I knew I had gone into the store with a certain amount of money, I knew I didn't drop it. When I told him it wasn't mine, he began hitting the window and door, screaming at me to open my door, and insisting that I had dropped the money! At that point, I just drove away as fast as I could. After talking to the Internal Affairs Department and describing the man I saw, and the way he escalated from calm and polite to angry and volatileit was determined that I could have possibly encountered the serial killer myself. Up to this point, it had been unclear as to how he had gained access to his victims, since there has been no evidence of forced entry into victim's homes, cars, etc. And the fact that he has been attacking in the daytime, when women are less likely to have their guard up, means he is pretty BOLD. So think about it...what gesture is nicer than returning money to someone who dropped it? How many times would you have opened your window (or door) to get your money and say thank you because if the person is kind enough to return something to you, then he can't really be a threatcan he Please be cautious! This might not have been the serial killer...but anyone that gets that angry over someone not accepting money from them can't have honorable intentions. The most important thing to note is that his reaction was NOT WHAT I EXPECTED! A total surprise! But what might have happened if I had opened my door? I shudder to think! Forward this to everyone you know...maybe they can be as fortunate as I was! P.S. from the Sender: Ladies, really DO forward this to EVERYONE you know. Even if this man wasn't a serial killer, he looked nice, he seemed polite, he was apparently doing an act of kindness, but HE WAS NOT A NICE PERSON (AND, I'm sending it to the men in our lives as well!!!) P L E A S E PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. This is especially important for ladies. It is good advice and something to think about...and it may save your life someday. Re: [lace-chat] Fwd: It may save your life
Thanks, Janice! I must say, I have been watching quite a few forensic case files on Court TV of an evening, while working on my handsewing projects, and learned just last night that approximately 95% of murders are committed by menAnd, although they didn't give the statistics on the victims, a vast majority of the cases I have seen have been committed against women...In any case, it's horrific to see the violence and brutality that does exist in the world, and it is certainly good advice to remember to keep your guard up, use common sense and not take any chances with your safety! [lace-chat] :) Fwd: A blonde is a blonde, is a...
*Two* blonde jokes, both of them a novelty (to me, at any rate) - jokes which were devised with male dimwits in mind, not just what I think of as transvestite jokes (written about females, but changed to having males as focus for PC reasons). Warning: both are only marginally acceptable for chat; one's somewhat smutty, and the other's definitely (and gruesomely) un-PC *as well* as being smutty. Needless to say, I *love* the second one... g From: J.F. The sheriff in a small Texas town walks out in the street and sees a blonde cowboy coming down the walk with nothing on but his cowboy hat, gun and his boots, so he arrests him for indecent exposure. As he is locking him up, he asks Why in the world are you dressed like this ? The cowboy says Well it's like this, Sheriff. I was in the bar down the road and this pretty little red head asks me to go out to her motor home with her so I did. We go inside and she pulls off her top and asks me to pull off my shirt so I did. Then she pulls off her skirt and asks me to pull off my pants so I did. Then she pulls off her panties and asks me to pull off my shorts so I did. Then she gets on the bed, and looks at me kind of sexy, and says, 'Now go to town, cowboy...' And here I am. === A white guy is walking along a beach when he comes across a lamp partially buried in the sand. He picks up the lamp and gives it a rub. Two blonde genies appear, and they tell him he has been granted three wishes. The guy makes his three wishes and the blonde genies disappear. The next thing the guy knows, he's in a bedroom, in a mansion, surrounded by 50 beautiful women. He makes love to all of them and begins to explore the house. Suddenly he feels something soft under his feet; he looks down and the floor is covered in $100 bills. Then, there's a knock at the door. He answers it and standing there are two persons dressed in Ku Klux Klan outfits. They drag him outside to the nearest tree, throw a rope over a limb and hang him by the neck until he's dead. As the Klansmen are walking away, they remove their hoods; it's the two blonde genies. One blonde genie says to the other one, I can understand the first wish of having all these beautiful women in a big mansion to make love to. I can also understand him wanting to be a millionaire. But why he wanted to be hung like a black man is beyond me. -- Tamara P Duvallhttp://t-n-lace.net/ Lexington, Virginia, USA (Formerly of Warsaw, Poland) To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I guess the moral was don't open your car to a stranger for any reason... Which seems obvious, but I did find this particular story useful - I don't think I've ever thought of the possibility that the bad guy could act so nice and come up with such a smart trick.
