[lace-chat] RE: [lace] Morris Dancing: Life with Bells On
Hi Liz (and everyone) Don't know where this thread started (maybe it was on Chat, but I only subscribe to the digests and don't always read them) but as well as making lace I also belong to a group of morris dancers. We are an all ladies group that dance traditional North West Clog Morris. Are there any other morris dancing lace makers out there? What style do you dance? There is a group in Bedford, UK called Bedfordshire Lace and they decorate their kit with lace (albeit machine made). I beleive one or two of their members are also lace makers. from Andrea Lamble Cambridge, UK.> From: lizl...@bigpond.com> To: l...@arachne.com> Subject: [lace] Morris Dancing: Life with Bells On> Date: Sat, 24 Jan 2009 17:02:20 +1100> > There is at least one group of Morris Dancers here in Melbourne, Oz.> > I remember one group, in England named, I think, the Luton Hatters!!> > It is Very energetic dancing, - the film does not show this up. [lace-chat] RE: [lace] Preference of book format
Such a shame that all these messages about the book format are coming into the lace in box. I feel it would have been much better if Carole had requested we contact her 'off list'. As she says in her message she will provide a summary. It's not impossible that there is some interesting 'lace' content in some of the reply messages but the subject line discourages one from want to bother opening the message 'just in case'. Maybe I'm just being a 'grumpy old woman', but is this really lace! Andrea Lamble Cambridge, UK, but off to Portugal tomorrow for a week to visit my father who moved there a few years ago. > Date: Wed, 24 Oct 2007 17:09:01 -0400> From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: lace-chat@arachne.com; [EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [lace] Preference of book format> > I'm doing an informal survey and would value your opinions. [lace-chat] lacemakers in Prague
Pavouci, We have recently acquired a flat in Prague (fairly central in Prague 1) and consequently I'll be spending increasing amounts of time in the Czech Republic. I would like to make contact with any lacemakers there (English speaking as my Czech is minimal!). Are there any groups that meet that would welcome an English lacemaker in their midst? Are there any workshops, lace days etc.? Any information would be welcome. I intend to take at least one pillow etc. over there with me but would also like to know if there are any places for buying lace equipment in Prague or environs as I would like to come to grips with Czech lace techniques. My next visit will be towards the end of November but whether I will be able to take my own equipment with me on this visit is uncertain (depends on how much other luggage I have to take). (I'm happy to receive replies off list so that others are not inconvenienced). [lace-chat] RE: [lace] Fw: Does anyone have a horseshoe pattern?
Hi Penny, Following on the suggestions already made - if you belong to the UK Lace Guild then you could borrow the book(s) from their library. In my experience it is an extremely efficient service (all for the cost of the postage). There is also a self published book by Gilian Dye called Weddings and Anniversaries that has a torchon horseshoe in it. Andrea Lamble Cambridge, UK From: "Penny" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: "Penny" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, "lace-chat" Subject: [lace] Fw: Does anyone have a horseshoe pattern? Date: Sun, 17 Jun 2007 23:08:47 +0100 Help please, does anyone have a pattern for a simple lace horseshoe for a wedding. I have been asked to make one for a friend's daughter, along with a garter and I only have 6 weeks to finish both. However I don't have a horseshoe pattern. Can anyone help me. I will willingly pay postage or any other costs involved if someone has a pattern they can let me have. [lace-chat] thread colour conversion
Hi all, Can anyone help? - my Husband has bought me a printed tapestry canvas (view of Prague about 18" x 36"). It says it is printed in Germany and the Coats logo is also printed on it. On the side is a list of wool colours required (presumably Coats) - does anyone know of a resource for converting from this to Anchor or DMC thread. I've spent quite a time searching on the web but can't seem to find anything that has the numbers I've got on it. I've got lots of skeins of tapestry wool (mainly Anchor and DMC) here but want to be sure I have enough of the correct ones to complete it. It's going to be a mammoth project (for those winter evenings perhaps). Any help appreciated. [lace-chat] Visiting Virginia
Dear Spiders, DH and I are coming to the US for a 'road trip' around the Virginia area at the beginning of October for 18 days. We're starting from Washington DC and travelling via Shenandoah Valley/ Blue Ridge Mountains, across to Richmond and Williamsburg then up round Chesapeake Bay and back to Washington. Hoping to catch lots of Autumn colours in Shenandoah. Planning the final route this weekend. Is there anywhere that we simply 'must' include in our itinerary? This will be the fifth US road trip we have undertaken but the first visit to this area. We usually cover about 2000+ miles while we are away (and even with the massive hike in petrol prices in the US it will still be cheaper than the UK). Don't think I'll be travelling with any lace but will bring some embroidery or crochet with me to do for if I'm not too exhausted at the end of the day. Happy lacing Andrea Cambridge, UK - where autumn is only just round the corner. Fed up with spam in your inbox? Find out how to deal with junk e-mail here! [lace-chat] RE: [lace] A book where I can find...
Hi Tracie, There is a section of Lace for Weddings in 75 Quick and Easy Bobbin Lace Patterns by Veronica Sorenson. (ISBN 0 7134 81137) which has a garter pattern; or you could try Biggins Lace (www.bigginslace.co.uk) Alternatively just make two long strips of an edging that you like and attach to a ribbon centre that has the elastic running through it. Happy lacing Andrea >From a rather damp Cambridge, UK - where the mini heatwave broke with thunderstorms in the night. [lace-chat] secret pal thanks
Dear Secret Pal, Your parcel arrived last Thursday, which coincided with my Brithday so it made an extra surprise for the day. I was very pleased with all the contents - I'm always short of divider pins and the needle threader will be very useful. The pin cushions are really cute and the little bag will be useful for keeping thread in. I have just got back from a long weekend away so have only just been able to get to my computer to reply. Looking forward to finding out your identity next month Best wishesAndrea Want to get more out of e-mail? Then get Outlook Live! [lace-chat] sticky label gunge
From: "Ann McClean" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [lace-chat] Getting sticky-label gunge off melamine Greetings fellow spiders, Advice, please, on how to remove the residue from sticky labels from a pair of melamine salt & pepper shakers. The paper has soaked away, but the sticky gunge left behind is proving stubborn :( I'd try methylated spirits. Dear Secret Pal, Your parcel was waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday. Many thanks for such lovely gifts - they were well worth waiting a little longer for. Where do I start? The key ring is really cute and will be in use soon. The bag and bobbin are delightful and I can't wait to embroider the pin cushion kit. Loved the tea towel - it won't get used for the dishes yet but will be hung up on display for a while. The pack of beads are perfect as I've recently purchased some bobbins with blue flowers painted on them - you must have known!! Pleased to hear your lace society gathering was a success. I know what hard work such things can be. Hope you get the chance to put your feet up for a bit now. Thanks againAndreain Cambridge UK, where Spring has Sprung. The surprises were really nice - did you make the edging on the hanky? Two more bobbins too. I'm off to raid my bead tin to make some pretty spangles for them. The address book and pen are really usefull and the soap smells delicious. I spider on its web is great - I've stuck it to the corner of my computer monitor for the present. Dear Secret Pal, Thank you so much for the package that arrived yesterday. The magnetic note pad is already installed on the door of the fridge and the pen is to hand. The cloth pocket will be ideal for keeping scissors, thread, spare bobibins etc. to hand when I'm lacemaking or sewing - I'll be able to attach it to the side of my armchair. The bobbins are beautiful - so nice to have some made in your native wood. The pictures of your country may give me some inspiration for a painting.
