Yeah - I agree Nick - I thought the first 30 mins was brilliant, Ayling was
great. Thoroughly enjoyable. We were the better side first half, them
second. I agree, a draw would have been fairer but I've no real complaints.
(Bearing in mind it was 5 years ago yesterday that we got Steve fukcing
Evans!!)

We lost it doesn’t count, another game to make up. If enjoyable football
is watching your team lose I may as well follow Barnstoneworth United!
8-1...8 bloody 1, to Brighouse! The centre forward wears glasses!

It’s a loss get real.

Re: [LU] Wolves

2020-10-20 Thread nigel
I'm not massively downhearted about the loss. They happen.

I do however continue to be perplexed at our lack of ability to cross the ball
with any hint of ability. This has been an ongoing, glaringly obvious issue for
all our time under Bielsa, yet not only do we not seem able to sort it out, we
actively continue to play an attacking game which relies almost entirely on it.
Our repeated, patient, build-up play allows the opposition to regroup and mass
in defense, and then when we eventually get the ball to a 'winger', the
resulting cross pretty much never hits a white shirt. We had what, three(?)
last night that got into a dangerous area (one on Rodders' head that he should
have done better with, one that they cleared off Paddy's foot for what should
have been a corner, and one from Raph with his first touch after coming on).
That may well be all that's needed on another day, but it was probably less
than 10% of the crosses we attempted.

On the whole, the biggest frustration is that when we attack I have a sense of
inevitability about us not even creating a chance (largely because of the
crossing thing above), and for very different reasons, when Wolves attacked
last night I had a sense that they may score. Within 10 seconds of both times
that they had the ball in the net last night, I had said to my son "they're
gonna score here, if we continue to let them do this".

I saw several Tweets last night from other clubs' fans saying "all Leeds do is
run, run, run", and to some extent they're right.

Re: [LU] Wolves

2020-10-20 Thread John Lee via Leedslist
Your inability to cross line made me laugh Nigel, although it wouldn’t have
done last night!

I think Michael makes a fair point about being where Wolves were 3 years ago.
This season is, despite us all wanting to surprise everyone and win the league,
one of consolidation. If we can see the failings then so can Bielsa, although
whether he’s up for changing his systems is debatable?

We did play some slick passes at times last night, created a few half chances,
but I’m not sure I thought we were going to score - the crowded defence was
reminiscent of last season, and Bamford needs a bit of space.

We do need a point at least from Villa’s formation diving squad, and I hope we
take it to them, play Hernandez from the start, and whup them. Tis a shame they
have Barkley now, one of my favourite current players - don’t let him shoot!

Did I read somewhere the Villa game is on Amazon?

[LU] Wolves

2020-10-20 Thread Richard Walker via Leedslist
A tad pissed off after last night and not felt that for a while which is good.
I thought Wolves played the perfect game, they defended en masse with 3 central
defenders and despite us coming out of the tracks fast they never really looked
in trouble demonstrated by the fact that their keeper has not had to make a
decent save all night.
It really was the same story as we have seen many times under Bielsa. Lots of
possession, lots of good link up play, lots of good positions but then failing
to really hurt the opposition in the last 3rd. Costa did some great things in
the first 15 minutes but what did he really have to show for it  ? Knack all
apart from a feeble penalty claim. On the other side, Harrison was up to his
old tricks, promising lots and delivering nothing. I think both Costa and
Harrison will be hanging on to their shirts in the coming weeks with Poveda and
Rafinha improving every week.
And there's Lord Bamford. Great start to the season but in a game like this
he's never gonna get a sniff. Surely there was a case of taking him off and
trying something different ?
Wolves second half, upped the tempo and for the first time for a while I
thought we looked knackered. Philips who strolled through most of the first
half with little to do other than pass backwards or square suddenly found
himself outrun, outpaced and outclassed in midfield. His passing game also
deserted him and he looked a sorry sight before being moved into the back four.
Klich doesn't help him. People always say, Klich does a lot of things that you
don't appreciate. Maybe but last night, his little flicks and passes weren't
cutting it and I just wanted to see him roll up his sleeves and help Kalvin
out. He didn't.
Wolves are a very good side, with very good players. I thought they thoroughly
deserved the win. On to Villa.
Miesler - 7. Didn't do much wrong and made a good save at the end of the first
half
Ayling - 6. Started well but second half he totally lost his passing range and
kept giving the ball away. Great block 2nd half.
Dallas - 6. Was pinned back but he stuck to his task and actually defended ok.
Got skinned once first half.
Koch - 8. Didn't really out a foot wrong and looked commanding on the ball
first half. His cleared header went straight to Siass for their disallowed goal
but it was hrdly a mistake. Like the look of this lad.
Strujik - 7. Did really well. I think he is pushing Cooper for that place now.
Slipped for the goal but that was unfortunate.
Philips - 4. I think we should be prepared for more matches like this for him.
He's going to really struggle in this league. How anyone thinks he is
international / top PL class is beyond me ?
Klich - 5. Flitting around but not contributing
Harrison - 4. Very disappointing.
Costa - 5. Good start then you forgot he was on the pitch.
Rodrigo - 7. I thought he was lively throughout but again not really hurting
the opposition. Be good if Bamford had the ability to play some football with
him. At least Hernandez tried to play on his level.
Bamford - 4. Really poor, marked out of the game.
Subs:
Hernandez - 7. I thought he looked lively and if he is fit then he plays for
me.
Poveda - 4. Just didn't figure but I don't really blame him for that
Raninha - 6. Looked lively.

I think if we can get 7/8 points from that we are doing well. That would be
say 15 points from a possible 30/33. 1.5 points a game equals 57 points in the
season easily survived relegation.

Exactly. Really we played a really good, established premier league team who
have excellent players and are in Europe and we made them look shit for 25-30
minutes. Yes the clear-cut chances did not come but it was great. Second half
they were better but we never looked totally outplayed (they are going to
trouble any team) and that they pulled 10 men behind the ball after they scored
was a testament to us I think.

A learning experience indeed. I’d like to see Pablo given a start - we need
some guile, and whilst he’s not a long-term answer, he’s the best we’ve got.

The way they pinned Dallas back and snuffed us out suggest Santo won the
tactical battle, although a draw would have been merited imho.

We better get used to that - not everyone is going to come and take us on, so
some flexibility is going to be required?

Some shocking crossing, and passing, at times, and Phillips was v lucky to stay
on the pitch - very stupid, and I bet Southgate made a note of that tackle?

The defeat will probably do us more good than a 0-0 though - a bit of
expectation management for us all ;-)

Apart from the two shots on goal, and the (I hate it) greater expected
goals, and that had Phillips left the shot alone we’d have drawn 0-0, which
would have been a deserved draw. Tight game. Any result would have been
“deserved” or fair.

Their goalie made two saves...directly at him but two saves. Also they had a
goal rightly disallowed, one great save from Meslier and the goal. Besides that
nothing else I believe. Rich I think you are being extremely critical here we
were killing them the first 25-30 with really great play.
And I actually think that was a clear penalty. Soft but he had an arm on Costa
and tripped him.

And I actually think that was a clear penalty. Soft but he had an arm on Costa

Not sure how anyone can say we deserved a draw or at least a draw when their

this solid Premier league outfit needed a lucky deflection…we are going to be

Definitely one from Rodrigo (could have done better I thought) and thought
there was another (but could be senility)

Re: [LU] Wolves

2020-10-20 Thread nigel
The stats say we had 2 shots on target. One was Rodders in the first half, with
a soft shot straight at the keeper. I assume the other came from Raph's blocked
cross just after he came on?
