[LU] Saiz

2018-08-22 Thread Lee Jones
Went down to the game with a few Swans mates last night. They were oddly
optimistic about getting a result despite their performance against
Birmingam (literally should have lost 8-0 but someone escaped a 0-0!).

Before KO I was telling them to watch the little fella, Saiz. Been playing
well for us and a cut above most other 'creatives' in this division. Sadly,
he didn't turn up and was REALLY hard to watch from the stand. Talk about
cursing a player! Everything he did was niggly, snarling and bitchy - I
could barely watch him at times and can't really recall him contributing
anything positive. If Phillips was non-productive, what could you say about
Saiz? Assumed Phillips went off injured at the time. I mean, what manager
subs a player after 25 minutes? Brave choice but the right one as we were
getting totally over-run whilst he was on the pitch.

If we can play badly and take a point away from home against one of the
divisions favourites, then we're in decent shape right now.

Re: [LU] Positives

2014-12-31 Thread Lee Jones
I find it hard to take any positives from last nights performance. The number
of times we gave the ball away with simple passes that your expect a Sunday
league player to complete was astonishing.

Derby completely took their for of the had for the last 44 minutes. Had they
not this could have been another 5-0 type result!

 Hi
 Which is really the better?
Chrome is supposed to be but...
GOOGLE seems to be going through a WINDOWS type megalomania.
There latest apps competing with Windows 8.1 has left me bewildered.
They have a new 'bar ' with other apps. Of course all GOOGLE. I cannot
fathom how to add non GOOGLE apps icons, like DROPBOX, OFFICE.Even
weirder is that there is another icon with almost identical bar in it.
 What that does
is
beyond me. Amazingly to get to the CALENDAR, for me the most useful
and synched app, you have to open gmail first.
And with all this new 'lets take on WINDOWS', CHROME seems much slower
 than before.
So which is really better, CHROMEor IE?

Re: [LU] Non Lu techie help....

I've never used a Chromebook but sounds like the ideal use case. That
said you can get some pretty decent Win8.1 laptops for not a lot more.
You can also get something like a Dell Venue Pro 8 for £299 which will
give you a tablet and desktop in one.

Everyone I know with any of the Note devices is extremely happy with
it. Great device but a bit too bulky for my liking...

Anyone who has used the new google chromebook got a view on it? It's
for my 71 year old mother who only emails, looks at photos and
occasionally tries to shop on amazon. Seems like a decent cheap quick
laptop for such simple things

Also thinking of getting a samsung note 3 instead of a new blackberry
for work. Quite like look of it but had back experience with a samsung
galaxy 2 a year or two back. Does the battery last? Is it ok for
emails? (2 most important things which samsung failed on before)

Thanks for all iphone 4 to iOS 7 advice... It's still slower than Joey
Essex but its usable.

Sorry I know its match day but I'm doing some early online shopping
now wembley is sold out with only single tickets and I can't go with
son to the RL semis. Typical I thought I'd check the weather and book
in the morning and there was only 63000 sold yesterday.

[LU] [Non LU] Disneyland: tips

2013-10-14 Thread Lee Jones
Hi guys,
As the LUFC chatter seems to have died down during the international break
i thought id ask a quick question for those who have been.

We're booking a few days in Disneyland (Paris) for December but having
never been before just wondered if anyone had any tips, money saving ideas
or recommendations? Were looking at flying out so probably booking flights,
hotel tickets separately unless anyone has a compelling reason to do
otherwise?

Any tips much appreciated.

The Dortmund performance in the first leg was quite similar too, almost
took Real apart at will.
Last night Barcelona looked so frail in defence they were scared to attack

Guardiola is walking into a right mess of a squad at Bayern next season
isn't he!

 these pages.

So, what a football lesson for the mighty Barcelona. Pretty much a repeat
of the first leg. I haven't seen anything like this over the two legs for a
very long time. Bayern outeverythinged them.
Particularly pleasing for me as I'm not a fan of the endless tippy tappy
boring passing game that Barce always play (and appear to have no plan B)
compared to the controlled blood and thunder
attacks that Bayern stage contrasted by their own passing game when it
suited them as if to take the mick out of the Barce ethic on their home
 patch.

I have a German work colleague who is very anti Bayern, but he agreed
reluctantly that after the first leg they were incredible.

Roll on the final, I could watch this style all day. Dortmund will
probably win after all that, which is fine by me as long as we get more of
  the same.

How many times do we hear people say even if we get up we have no chance
of staying up?

No team goes up from the championship with a realistic chance of staying
up. You have to get yourselves up first then invest in better players to
stay up. You can not assemble a team capable of surviving the premiership
whilst playing in the Championship, it's impossible. The players you need
will not come to you until you are up.

On 11 December 2012 07:19, Dr Michael Benjamin m...@myray.com wrote:

Early days yet but if the TO is serious [ I have many a doubt] then the
very first question to be posed is who is to be our long term manager?
I have no doubt now that Colin cannot get us up or if he does it will be
with a team that cannot stay up. He doesn't have the time his agenda and
 timeline does not match ours.
I don't think that it is his fault. He is another in the long line [
hopefully the last] of victims to MS's malignant lying and manipulations.
But the basic fault is that our team stinks. It has no real ability to play
as a unit next year. It consists of loans and 'last payout' clapped out
knackers yard performers. A joke combination that sometimes flatters to
 deceive.
There are maybe 5 players that could be in a squad worthy of its name. We
need 18 at least. In other words we are two seasons from a realistic
 promotion challenge.
By realistic I mean one that goes up with a reasonable chance of staying
 up.
To do that we need a proven manager who would take on the challenge
exhibit stability. Of the batch of new successful managers I reckon Chris
Houghton. Firstly Leeds is and always will be a bigger team than Norwich.
Ignore present standings. Norwich are grossly over preforming and can never
go above where they are. Leeds can in theory and with guidance go the whole
way. Leeds really does belong in the top six. More than say Spurs.
It would also give me a pleasant sense of 'revenge' to put one over on
them. But that issue is marginal.
So I am watching what happens not on the pitch, but off. More of the same
would mean that the managerial staff are not in for the long run, but to '
luck a promotion' jump ship with a nice profit before the inevitable
relegation. A managerial change and a slow rebuilding would show a
 different and healthier agenda.
But there is this asteroid and the Mayan calendar to deal with before that
:) [just how serious is the former?]

Although barely significant, this is nevertheless an interesting point. I
read that Warnock has said somewhere that the ref told Pugh that he had
watched the game on Friday, and marked his card.

Re: [LU] Leedslist Digest, Vol 19, Issue 50

2012-01-19 Thread Lee Jones
Completely agree. I don't know how/why people seem to think that a
team costing £650k should be out performing teams that have spent 10x
that. Yes we have some good younsters in the squad, but the fact that
Grayson has managed to get a team largely of freebies and loanees to
within touching distance of the playoffs is a miracle. At the same
time he's developing a number of players and selling them on to fund
Bates' retirement fund.

I fear if we swap manager now, not only will it cost us a lot to sack
him after giving him a new contract (thus giving us even less to
spend!) but reality may bit and we'll slip down the table
consistently.

On 19 January 2012 09:32, Alec McQueen alec...@gmail.com wrote:
Ah, some financial sense on the List, a rare treat.

After a poor start, SG has actually been making this mid-table squad

 position.

SG is NOT the problem. The Leech who is extracting cash from the club (in
my judgement) is the problem. It is otherwise known as asset stripping.

Bates has an interesting business model. It is clear to me his goal is to
maximise his revenue over the long term (from player sales) whilst risking
next to none of his own cash (which would be required if he had desires on
 a Premier League place).

a Grayson at any given time we can't compete financially with about 30
clubs - funnily enough that puts us about mid-table in the 2nd division. We
are where we can afford to be.

The disappointment lies in not being able to get a better playing
performance than our relative income stream, and there I'm afraid you can
only fault Grayson's football management (which I don't BTW) and Bates
risk management (eg should we have gambled on Kilkenny last year?) - I
don't think that either of those points have been wildly adrift up until
now - lets see if MS lets slip his risk strategy or his promotion target :(
Lets see if Grayson ups the performance of his team.

2012-01-10 Thread Lee Jones
Yep, on recent form I went into this game fearing a battering of 5 or 6
goals. I felt if they got an early goal, their passing skills would just
rip us to pieces.
Thankfully that didn't happen and to lose by the odd goal is no shame.

It just frustrates me that we play to the oppositions level - we raise our
game for better teams and lower then for poorer teams.

The irony is Cardiff fans wanted Dave Jones out for ages before he got
sacked.
Tactical naivety, complete unwilingness to change systems or formations,
poor use (or complete lack) of subs, mediocre transfer record and total
failure in all the big games.

I really dont see him being any better than SG

They're not popular on this list but if you want a motivated team to zoom
up the league - although not the prettiest - then the best candidates are
 Colin and Dave Jones.

Warnock is despised by many but I suspect all the teams he's managed loved
him and I for one would have no objections to him. I doubt he'd suffer
muppets like Becchio very long. He had the cojones to call Johnson a
cheat, and he clearly took a dive.

about Howson. Said he really looked the part against a midfield of Parker
and Nolan which would probably fetch £15M+ were they to move and is widely
regarded as the best midfield in the division. They said several times that
he and Clayton really did a job on them and won the battle.

Bodes well for the rest of the season IMO

Well frankly I was very impresses indeed.
We have a goalkeeper two good full backs. Two decentish CH's.
Clayton is a revelation. I thought that Howson was good and did what he had
 to. Where was Brown?
Snodgras Gradel are good. If we a forward playing we would have
 slaughtered them.
As it was an og and missed penalty and still a draw says it all.
The Israeli commentators thought we were the better team, have a lot of
 character and deserved

Dr Mike - it's the apps that I love so easy and convenient. Am considering
an ipad rather than going for an iphone 5 when it comes out as I can use it
in meetings for notes, films, music, reading books etc... Friend has one

spent entire holiday reading books on it.

I'm typing this in Turkmenistan at the moment and there is very little wifi
here and iphones wont connect to what wifi there is. Also TM Cell (the

also the ipad) loses a lot of its attraction!

2011-06-16 Thread Lee Jones
I'd have Danny Gabbidon in a heartbeat. Seems to be over his recent injury
problems (started the last few games for Wales) and is one of the most
accomplished defenders around when fit. Not sure we'd afford him mind.
Sebastian Larsson, James McFadden, Kevin Phillips and Maik Taylor have all
been released from Brum. Jonathan Spector worth a punt?

Re: [LU] Johnson, Kilkenny and the market rate

2011-06-10 Thread Lee Jones
I dont know what the current going rate is in the Championship, but I would
have thought that for a top Championship club (which we are aspiring to be
next season) £8-10k a week isn't over the odds is it?

Im not saying I agree with it, 8000 a week is an obscene sum of money, but
it doesn't sound that high against the other teams at the upper end of the
division to me...

On 10 June 2011 13:54, Ian Murray ianjamesmur...@hotmail.com wrote:

Noone said anything about 'caving in' to anyone's demands. Say the agent
was at 11k, and we're at 4k. If you can negotiate there is a deal to be done
between 5-8k. Simply saying take our starting offer or fck off is a
ridiculous state of affairs. As for journeymen - both players have been with
us for a number of years, improved and given good service in that time. I
don't have their wikipedias open in front of me but I'll bet given their age
they will have had fewer than 3 clubs. Do you know what journeymen means?

I suggest you do likewise re turnover to wages and the rules. The clubs in
our division have agreed to 'work towards' the introduction of new
regulations by the beginning of 2012/13. At the moment, the turnover:wages
ratio limit at LEAGUE 2 level is 60% reducing to 55% next year. Deloitte say
60% in football is sustainable. If your figures are right and we pay our
players 11k a week (allowing for youth team and reserve players) we have at
least 30% room for manoeuvre on an aspirational target for two divisions
below us. This is why our good young players are walking for free. This is
short termism - they walk for nowt. We have the option of either replacing
them with better or equivalent players (which costs Market rate wages +
transfer fee) or grabbing short term loans and hasbeens to plug the gap. Ken
chooses the latter option which is why we will be relegated within the next
5 years without investment in the current squad and better players too. Mark
 my words.

For the record I never said we should be paying Johnson and Kilkenny
£11,000.00 a week. Obviously we should negotiate a deal which suits all
 parties.

As for holding Coventry up as some shining example, I note that they posted
a loss last year of £3,000,000.00. The only way a football club seriously
makes money is through football. I'm glad you enjoyed your trade fair but
you havent got a clue, have you?

TV money is nothing compared to prem TV money. Gate receipts are still
 the
  biggest income outside the PL.

We are going to replace decent young players who formed the core of
 the
team SG is trying to build and who have improved consistently as a group
over the last few seasons, with neverhasbeens and loanees. That is not
  how
you build a team to compete at the highest level.

But caving in to agents' demands and giving 300% pay rises to journeymen
  is?

I suggest you take a look at the Football League's rules regarding the
percentage of turnover that can be used to pay wages. And then look at
 LUFC's
  recently posted annual results.

It seems you've learned nothing from the Ridsdale debacle.

The club will never progress on the cheap - it's not possible.
Meanwhile season ticket prices rise inexorably to gargantuan levels and
 we all trot
along like sheep. Say what you want about the scousers - least they
 don't
  put up with this sh!t.

They're in the premiership, with proper TV money, not the scraps you get
  in the FL.

I'm am not arguing for spend spend spend,

Yes you are. You clearly believe we should be paying Johnson and Kilkenny
  £11,000 a week. That's £1.3m a year - out of a turnover of £27m. How many
players should be pay that sort of money to Ian? The first eleven? That
would take the wage bill up to more than £7m - you've already blown 25%
 of the
  club's income.

After seven seasons outside the top flight you've not learned to
  readjust
your horizons yet. £4k a week is a decent championship wage. £11k is
  better
  than many premiership players earn.

just sustainable investment in the team and not White elephant radio
stations, conference centres and beeston fine dining.

Banqueting, conferences and exhibitions are excellent earners for
 football
clubs. I went to a trade show at the Ricoh Arena the other week. An
excellent facility, well located and with ample car parking. It's
 exactly what we
should be doing, and brings in profitable revenue.

You haven't got a clue, have you.
