Re: [LU] Oh they've all gone quiet over there

2021-05-12 Thread John Lee via Leedslist
I think he’ll have learnt a big lesson from the Crawley game as to how to
approach next season, if he’s still here?

I like the sound of the 50 year anniversary and winning it again too ;-)

Mind you, it does mean we’ll have to endure thousands of showings of
Montgomery’s save again, not to mention references to Colchester, Sutton,
Crawley, Histon, Wigan etc.

2021-05-12 Thread Ian Murray
Bielsa proved with our defeat to Crawley that we are properly cursed in the cup.

Maybe the curse allows us to win it every 50 years or so. In which case it's
on next year

(I would also love it)

I’d love us to have a proper go at FA Cup next season. It’s annoying that the
way the draw went this season we could have got to the semi-final without
having to play anyone higher than us in the league. Though obviously with the
restrictions it wouldn’t have been the greatest season to get to Wembley. Maybe
next year.

To me, the ONLY downside to this season (Apart from no fans of course) is
simple; we've lost 4 times to the two most boring teams, scoring no goals in
those 360 minutes.
The way Wolves and Brighton set up and play, isn't unattractive and is very
much based on possession - But they both, ultimately, want to try and walk it
into the net ala Barcelona under Pep. Against teams like this, we clearly
struggle (Both will finish below us in the League). MB will, I'm sure, be aware
of this and, hopefully address next season.
Genuinely not bothered about the drubbing at Old Trafford or MOST of the
defeats this season, other than those 4. Those 12 points would have put us 5th,
1 point behind Leicester!
Mind you, I (personally) don't want European football yet. If we did I think
we'd suffer in the same way Wolves have done by overachieving a bit too soon,
without having the ability to bolster the squad in preparation for the 'rigours
of success'

I would LOVE IT if we snapped up Adama Traore. He is an amazing player

I don’t see us buying more than 3 players for the first team squad, unless we
have some unexpected departures. The left back position is tricky - and how has
Orta and the team been able to scout players? Hopefully coverage of Leeds in
Argentina, and across the world, may flush out the odd Bielsa disciple? Of the

The creator-supreme role, with the ability to run 12km per game and sprint like
Carl Lewis, is even trickier. That said, I’d never heard of Rapha & Koch until
we bought them, so hopefully there is a £20million nugget out there?

Re: [LU] Oh they've all gone quiet over there

2021-05-11 Thread Andy Brown
I doubt that will happen. This seasons winners will take £3.4M in prize money.
I can’t remember the number mentioned for a league place but it’s not so
different.

The only way the FA Cup is going to have 1980’s levels of importance is by
giving the winner a champions league slot.

If we did I think
we'd suffer in the same way Wolves have done by overachieving a bit too soon,
without having the ability to bolster the squad in preparation for the 'rigours
of success'

Anyway, enough of my bollocks, off back to lurkdom! TTFN

I agree; missing out on Europe might be a blessing in disguise, just as not
getting promoted the season before last was. *How* much better were we last
season than the one before? And would we have been *this* good in the
Premier League without that extra season of the team coalescing? I can't
see Ayling/Janson/Cooper/Alioski/Phillips/Klich/Harrison/Hernandez/Bamford
taking the fight to Liverpool like we did on day one if they'd have been
promoted earlier. Coming up with the confidence of Champions, winning the
league by ten points instead of the playoffs, overcoming the poor patches
to triumph... that's all invaluable experience, and made this team better.

I think European qualification will be needed at the end of next season if
we want to keep Raphinha, Meslier, Koch and Llorente, though. (Phillips I
think will stay as long as he's getting picked for England.)

Their reasons for thinking they know better were all of the performances in the

I think it's actually quite rare - this season at least - to be able to
spot an individually poor performance that cost us the match. Meslier's
fuckups at Arsenal (which he's not repeated), and Alioski giving away the
penalty against Brighton stand out*. But it's usually been a collective

Michael Brown, on the other hand, was a useless fucking cunt.

The reason I find the doom-mongering so laughable is that the evidence against
it has literally been there for three seasons now. We know the system he likes,
we know the players he likes, he doesn't chop and change (eg keeping Costa in
for two games longer than we thought he merited before injury forced him out),
and it's up to the players to make the system work. When it does, it's great,
when it doesn't we get thumped. So that's what you can criticise; to go 'Player

moulded a team, not eleven individuals.

Re: [LU] Oh they've all gone quiet over there

2021-05-10 Thread Nicholas Armit via Leedslist
Their reasons for thinking they know better were all of the performances in
the Brighton game. Fair enough to call those out and to be slightly concerned
when the team was set up for Tottenham. In the end Bielsa and the players
showed why he is such a great manager. However, never to question all sounds a
bit Trump and the Republican Party to me...(maybe I am the List's Liz Cheney...
:-) )

The thing is that MB isn't perfect, but he is thorough and everything he does
is done for a finely detailed and researched reasons, mostly beyond our ken or
experience.  I'd guess he chose the same team, because of the options he had,
the things he's seen in training, the research he had done on Tottingham, his
50 years of experience.  In the case he got it 100% right. On other occasions
he might not, but it won't be down to stubbornness.  This doesn't mean I don’t
think every Leeds fan has the right to express contrary opinions, but when they
do, its fair to ask, what are their reasons for thinking they know better.

No matter how you look at it, finding the opponent manager spending most of the
time ahead of the microphone doing the VAR-excuse, was just plain stupid. Spurs
where played off the park, end of story.

We are Leeds - MOT!

Which ever way you perceive it, is entirely your point of view but one things
for sure, that's what makes football - different opinions and the fans who
cannot tolerate any criticism of players and the manager just don't understand
the game.
