Re: Dinner table legs profile - Habitat for Humanity Re-Stores

2018-04-10 Thread MWF
If you live in the United States, check your area to see if  "Habitat for Humanity" (H4H) has a Habitat Re-Store in your community. If so, two things:1.  Pay them a visit - you may find furniture that has been donated to them that you can use as Curtis describes below.  Habitat Re-Stores often get donations from builders and contractors. If a builder has "leftovers" that don't get installed in their homes (I've seen brand new Jacuzzi water jet tubs and many new doors and windows), they likely donate them to the local H4H Re-Store.  When contractors are doing remodels, and remove cabinets, bath fixtures, lighting, railings, etc., they also often donate them to H4H Re-Stores.I know of a case where a local lumber mill had too much cherry (in 4/4 and 8/4 rough-sawn boards) and they donated LOTS of it to the Re-Store.  I've seen numerous tools for sale in them - including several Shopsmiths, Radial arm saws, Table saws, and recently a Router table with a 3 hp Freud Plunge router installed.2.  You don't have to be a Builder or Contractor to donate to H4H Re-Stores - they will accept most of what you no longer need and would like to keep out of the landfill.  They are a recognized "Non-profit" for federal & state taxes.Have a Great day.Mac-Original Message-

The owner bought a Chinese made table (real beefy table legs.) his wife did not like it at all.  What I did was to take the legs off the table, mount them between the centers on the Legacy, and then, I used a 6" pitch with a 1 1/4" roping bit. ok, for all you cowboy fans, here is a link to a Legacy model 1800, located in dallas, texas... nice machine...motor drive on the lead screw(X axis)... does not have the Z axis upgrade... legacy wheel kit...nice selection of router bits... starting
bid of $50.00, which means nothing, since the reserve has not been met... but sometimes these auctions can get you a machine at a discounted price since it is not reaching as broad an audience as an ebay or craigslist posting would... interesting to see where
this goes, but we will have to wait about two weeks to find out... and to all the comedians out there, I will not be driving out to dallas for ANY price!... good luck people!...joe b.

Re: REVO POWER

2018-04-10 Thread Richard Ellis
Tim
At the present time I have a steel plate that I made to fit the Revoo. I
have to take the 71/2" gear off and the fit the plate that is bolted to
the 71/2" 'V'pulley, using a different knob to lock it in place, I thought
I could make it look better--although the output will be no different-it
will still drive the spindle.
The leadscrew motor, That's different,, I Have just about sorted, other than
a limit switch. Mostly I turn 2"x2" and up to four inch from the square
section to round, using 1/2" milling cutters. As i can drive the spindle
about 150 / 200 RPM and a very slow travel along the leadscrew. I get a
near perfect finish ,only a light sanding needed.
Sometimes it is best appear a fool, one can't expect to know everything,I
have had very little education left school at 15 to work on a farm as a
student living in at beck and call at all times of the day and night. I
learnt a lot, and after three years left and decided farming was not for
me- I was foolish for three long years !!

No I am not, however, I do have access to it at the Milwaukee Makerspace.
I have been tempted to make a lathe duplicator from one of my wood

RE: Dinner table legs profile

2018-04-10 Thread Michael Kratky
Good question, on a decent lathe once a story stick was detailed out it
wouldn’t be but a mornings’ task to complete all 4 legs.

Option B there’s open woodturning clubs all over the country that would be very
helpful and even allow you use their equipment to make them, they are listed
at: www.woodturner.org

I would dowel a piece on the end to get the second taper

Hi Harvey

It depends on what model LOM you have, CNC??? or old Woodchuck.

With the right cutters that leg is fairly easy to do. The only difficult part
of the leg for me to do is the small tapers on the bottom part of the leg.

Anyway well worth tryingif at first you don't succeed try and try
again- that is what I do with my Revo and I make loads of mistakes.

Someone will probably tell me the best way to do the small tapers that are
shown on that leg.
