drilling with Foresner bits etc... but he did a fairly good job video. Oh

Michael,

I have thought about doing Cooperstown. Let me know when you are going to
be in Cooperstown and I will try to come up. I started adding on to my shop
this last spring and this has been my busiest year for shows and custom
work. I just got it closed in a couple weeks ago now to finish inside.

This guys web site is Awesome! I did not go all the way through his site last
night when I saw Bill's link. but this morning, I got some time to do

more looking, Over all I like what I see. His Tool section! is WOW, (I have
Tool ENVY NOW.) Just look at those machines! a 31" band saw, a jointer that
must be better then 12"( or better) his lathe... 9 feet long! and a little
Legacy 900. ( I am surprised that he doesn't have a Legacy model 2200 , parked
next to all those giant machines in his shop. ) ;-)

I Hope everyone has a good day.

I will be talking to you all more latter.

Suggestions for New Legacy Owner

2010-09-24 Thread Harvey Katz
Hello to the Group,

I just purchased a used Legacy 1000ex, without a router, any accessories and
or router bits.
I plan to use it for flat milling, simple turning, some basic flutes, but
probably not barley or rope twists.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the best router for the legacy and what
are the essential first accessory and router bit purchases. Thanks.

Re: Suggestions for New Legacy Owner

2010-09-24 Thread Tim Krause
Hi Cole,

Do you have an eliminator chuck for that router? Did you have to drill new
holes in the router carrier tray to mount your router?

Hello Harvey,

Welcome to the group. On the top of my list would be 2 of the 2704 flat
bottom bits. They are the work horse in the Legacy world. I would also get
a few cove bits such as a 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 and just for the fun of it the
2 cove bit. I would also get a 3/8 and 1/2 straight cutting bit. I
also really like using my 1 rope bit for work that is not turned. Maybe
pick up a couple of roundover bits like the 1/4 radius or 3/8. With those
combos you can make quite a few traditional turned details without getting
into roping a barley twists. The flat work could be detailed as well. If
you are wanting to do a lot of reeding I would highly recommend getting the
long side reeding bits. They cut much smoother than the radius bits. That
is because you are cutting with the grain.

If you don't know about Magnate yet you can see their website at
http://www.magnate.net . If you buy 10 or more router bits you get a 5%
discount. One thing about magnate bits designed for legacy work is they have
longer shanks for extended reach. This comes in handy.

As far as router goes, I'm really happy with my 7539 porter cable that was
recommended. I know it's a big chunk of change but it's been trouble free
for 2+ years of production work. Parts are available over the counter when I
need them from several local vendors. Another thing to consider when buying
a router is there is an accessory called an eliminator chuck that enables a
quick change of the router bits. If that is important, check first that an
eliminator chuck will fit on your choice of router. I would really miss
mine if it was gone.

I bought a extension when I bought the mill ,I cant remember the brand
name right now. The router fit right on the mill it has the foot print
as the porter cable, but it is turned just a little . The triton has
really good height adjustment options built in .I have'nt figured how
to mount a digital scale to it like yours.
