My way round that was to go into Options, Customise, Dates and under Prefixes I change the Typed BC (which I know I will never use) to Displayed from. That works fine except for this one bug. No matter that I entered it as from it is always displayed as From. When I run, say, a Descendant Report the relevant sentence reads A lived together with B in Town, County, Country, From 1 January 2007. Re: [LegacyUG] Living together
In an attempt to solve this problem I tried using the the Wording Options in the lower part of the Marriage Information input screen of the couple in question and made these changes: (don't include the quotes) Family View: Left label: 'Partner'Right label: 'Partner' ReportPerson 1 'partnered with' Person 2 Phrases Other word substitutes: Spouse 'Partner' Marriage 'Partnership' The results - In the Family View the 'Partner' labels are correctly displayed. In a Descendant Narrative Report,'partnered with' is correctly displayed. BUT, DUE TO A BUG in LEGACY, the separation phrase reads: 'This marriage ended in separation ...' instead of 'This partnership ...' I sure hope they get that bug fixed before I have to produce the final report. This bug has been reported to Sherry. If I remember correctly, Picasa does not actually 'store' your photos, but will index them and give you access to where you have stored them. It should be able to find any photos on your computer and give you access to them. Hi Nancy, I can't tell you anything about Legacy's dictionary (though you may like to look up dictionary in the Help files - there's an entry there that you may find helpful) and I've not attempted to spell-check anything in Legacy (yet!), but whenever I add words to any dictionary I make sure I'm right before I do so. If there is any doubt, I check a hard copy dictionary. Many of the words I find myself adding are ones where we spell things differently to Americans (colour/colour, labelling/labeling, etc) and local place names. The former I check my paperback dictionary which is usually within reach, the latter I either know from familiarity or I check on a map. :-) My golden rule - if I'm not concentrating hard enough, I choose ignore rather than add/replace so I only mess up the document I'm currently working on, not my dictionary. ;-) Hope this helps. Diane, A Gedcom is only a text file and can be opened and read in any text file eg Notepad. However, the easiest (and cheapest) way may be to import it back into legacy giving it a different name and one can then look at the index. This would certainly be the best if it is a large file. RE: [LegacyUG] Child Status
Hi Jenny I'm not clear about what you are trying to do. If you want give a child two or more status 'labels', simply combine them as a new status and use that, eg stillborn twin. The new term is added to the search engine, so if you want to search for all children with that status, you can find them. The only caveat is Gedcom -check to see how it handles the new status if you intend transferring your files to other's. Re: [LegacyUG] Re; Civilian Conversation Corp
CCC records are in the National Archives and at the Civilian Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. It will be very useful to provide as much information as you can, including date and place of birth and death (you may need proof of death: a death certificate, obituary, cemetery record, or funeral card, etc.). Those records include names of parents, birthplace, occupation, education, payroll details (often name and address of spouse, as well as the CCC duty and camp assignments. Some state archives also kept CCC records. Some CCC records include photos. Some local newspapers may have articles about the CCC activities in their area and some of the CCC camps produced camp newspapers. The camps were active from 1933 to 1942 and many of those men went directly into the military when WWII began and the CCC Camps disbanded. I come from Iowa where there were 34 camps by the end of the first year (1933). I think there were nearly 3 million young men who served in CCC camps. Some did not tell their families, considering it a bit of an embarrassment to qualify as poor, single, healthy, and unemployed. Hope this might help some. Re: [LegacyUG] Spell Check
I think the dictionary is the MSOffice one, and it is not created with many non-business words. Each time you add words to the file, they will be permanent. This includes all Surnames, First Names, Place Names You are correct about being careful when adding in more, but I at one time was given instructions, and used them, on editing the MS dictionary, but I lost it years ago. Re: [LegacyUG] Picasa2 how to find picture
Marli, just remember that Picasa2 is basically an organizer of all the images in folders you choose it to index. If you have a specific folder where you store all the images related to your Legacy families, it will index those (it won't move them unless you physically do that) if you choose to let it. So, somewhere along the line you must have moved the images you were using in Legacy to a new folder because Legacy can no longer find them on the old path you provided. Open Picasa2. On the left hand side, you will see a column headed LIBRARY. After Library and in the same name panel are four icons, click the third one. This will set the view (below) to show the folder tree structure. This is similar to Explorer. Scroll down through the folders showing and see if you can recognize the one/s for your missing Legacy images. Picasa2 gives a little help here as it does dispaly a thumbnail from one of the images in each folder. If you can't see the folders, it may be because Picasa2 has not been instructed (by you) to index that folder. Go to FILE|ADD FOLDER TO PICASA and nominate every area of your hard drive where you think you have images saved. If you can't remember try using Picasa2 to conduct a search. In the little panel (with magnifying glass) up at the top right of the Picasa2 screen, type in one of the names of a file from Legacy (one that is MIA ;-)). It should find the location for you now that it is indexed. Lance On 1/29/07, Marli Yoder [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I downloaded Picasa2 and it looks very nice to organize my pictures. Problem is that now my pictures that are already attached in Legacy are MIA. I also cannot attach new pictures. I tried changing the location of the pictures in the options list but don't know exactly where to point the path. I had over 100 pictures attached, but as I open the picture center they come up missing. What am I doing wrong? I don't want to delete Picas2, as it works very well.
