Marilyn:

Do you have birth dates or anniversary dates (whichever you are
searching for the Calendar) for everyone? The Calendar report only
finds individuals that have a date for the field you are searching to
include in the Calendar.

If you create To Dos by clicking on the "global" To Do icon at the top

Basically the answer is "yes" they do display differently and "no" there is not
another setting.

You will find that there are different ways in which "Maclean" is is
capitalised/spelt in normal use, and either of the two ways which you showed is
valid. This has been discussed several times before and I suggest that you view
the archives, the link is below and use the Search Box.

RE: [LegacyUG] To Do List problem -- Problem now fixed

2009-08-02 Thread Cathy

Ron,
Thanks again.  The problem now seems to be fixed.
I did reinstall but was unable to un-install first so the re-install had
to write over the  program.  That didn't fix the
problem.
However, going back to what you said, I pulled out the Todo.usr file and
filed it under another name.  Then I opened Legacy and did the file
maintenance you advised below.  Then Opened up the To Do tasks and
was unable to see the preview but hit the reset button.  This time
the program retained the settings after the Reset button was hit.

I've checked throughout the database and also other  databases and
all is working well.
Again, my thanks to Ron and everyone.

Hi,

I've just started using Legacy. I have the option set to 'capitalize surnames'.
There is one small thing I don't understand. Right now, it capitalizes all
surnames, except the Mc's (e.g. McCAFFREY). I don't mind this, but it doesn't
do the same thing for Mac's (e.g. MacLean displays all caps MACLEAN).

Does Legacy treat Mc's vs Mac's differently when the option to captialize
surnames is set, or might there be some other setting I need to tweak?

I have searched the archives and not found this problem and hoping
someone can help me.

I was just about to print out a Calendar Creator report and I found
errors in the naming. I has several people with the wrong last name but
correct birth date.

The screwy part is the one of these people is my wife. It has her with
the last name of one of her cousins. And several others like this.

I did a File Maintenance -> Check/Repair of the Family file and still
got the errors.

The report is errors both for the Calendar Creator and the Calendar
List

Report.
I ran the report both for Tagged individuals and only living
individuals

and got the same issue.
I have it show the Birth year and age.

Any thoughts or ideas?

thanks for the help

RE: [LegacyUG] To Do List problem -- is this a bug?

2009-08-02 Thread ronald ferguson

Cathy,

In which case the setting which is causing the problem is resetting itself
after each time of use. I would delete the ToDo.usr file as I suggested that
you might have to do. You will find this in C:\\Legacy\Data (providing you
installed using the Legacy defaults).

Re: [LegacyUG] To Do List problem -- is this a bug?

2009-08-02 Thread Cathy

Robert,

Yes, that's what is happening to me. Ron suggested that I hit the
reset button. And when I hit the reset button and then confirm O.K.,
then I can preview the individual's To Do report.

However, I have to go through the reset process each time I want to
preview an individual's To Do List report prior to printing
it. Clicking on the Reset button doesn't make a permanent
change. So, resetting each time for each person is a work-around but
I would certainly like it to clear up the problem permanently when I reset

Does anyone else find this an issue too?

Thanks,
Cathy

Re: [LegacyUG] To Do List problem -- is this a bug?

2009-08-02 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES

Cathy,
I used myself as the person (I have no To Dos for myself) and got the blank as
you state, then changed to ALL Individuals, and got pages of stuff. I switched
to one person who had some, and the preview found the correct stuff.
You might check the choices in the three tabs 'What to Include', 'Filter
Options' and 'Sort Order'. My guess is in the 'Filter Options' you may need
changing. Set Categories and Locality to ALL, and checkmark all on the right.
Hopefully you now got something. Remember that Locality is different from
Locations.

Ron,

Your suggestions worked! Thank you very much!

I use the To Do Lists for a lot of follow up and
I would have felt lost without them. I now see
the reports in Previous and in printing on paper.

Thank you, Ron and Dan, and everyone!

RE: [LegacyUG] To Do List problem -- is this a bug?

2009-08-02 Thread Cathy

Dan,

Thanks for checking. I just ran the To DO List report last week and
had no problems. The only change to my system has been that I
updated the Legacy version to v.7.0.0.100 this week and this was the
first time that I ran the To Do List reports. And before anyone
asks, no, I didn't back up my data before updating the Legacy
version. Yeah, I know it was a dumb thing to do. We live and learn!

So, if no one else is having the same problem as I do, then it is
probably something unique to my PC which isn't working well with the
latest version of Legacy. I wouldn't even know where to start to
begin narrowing down what the issue could be.

If you or anyone else has any thoughts as to what I should do next, I
would certainly appreciate hearing them.

With thanks,
Cathy

If you had followed the link at the bottom of each message and selected
solutions by error number you would have read:

• Error 75: Path/File access error (not Windows Vista)

Windows XP users who log on with an account other than Administrator may
see this error.

Either log on as the Administrator, or go to the Control Panel and open
User Accounts and give the other account(s) Computer Administrator
privileges.

• Windows Vista and Error 75: Path/File access error

If you installed Legacy to the Program Files directory on a Windows
Vista computer, you must uninstall the program and then re-install it to
the default C:\Legacy\

That would have been much quicker than asking some one else to look it
up and post the answer. It has been pointed out that that is a faster
path to a solution many times. If everyone would look to the online
technical support and the archives first they would get their answers a
lot faster.

Just a suggestion to speed up getting solutions.

following and let me know if they have the same problem? You will
need to have some tasks populating the "To Do List" for the person
you select.

-- Open a person from Family View and click on the "To Do List" icon.
-- When that window opens, please click on the Print button on the
right side of the screen.
-- From the Record Selection tab, Select "Tasks Tied to Individuals"
and select the radio button for "This individual" and to the right of
the button should be the name of the person for whom you opened the
Family View.

-- The Select the Preview button to the right.
-- What do you see at this point on the page?

Please let me know if the preview page shows the tasks listed there
or if you find a blank page.

When I try this, I see only a blank page and not the tasks for the person.

I'm using a PC with XP operating system with all the last updated
Service Packs. The Legacy version which I am using is 7.0.0.100

So, does anyone else have this problem or am I the only one?

I would appreciate your assistance in testing this issue.

With thanks,
Cathy

You want to leave them both there. To correct the problem you are having
go to Options>Customize>Sources (in V6) and uncheck the box that says
"Include Source List Name as part of the source citation pages on
reports".

Re: [LegacyUG] Double Source Data Entry

2009-08-02 Thread SgtBob
Disregard - I found what my error is and correction will not be as difficult as
I had thought.

It seems that when sources are entered into the system, there is one title
identified as the 'Source List Name' (Shown in the Master Source List) and teh
other is the 'Title' - both of which appear in any endnotes.

My mistake is that I duplicated the 'Source List Name' entry into the 'Title'
for lack of a better explanation. It appears that one has to have the 'Source
List Name' entered, but any Title is superfluous if it is identical the 'Source
List Name' - which most of mine are. So I will be able to correct my master
sources and corredt my problem.

Sorry to take up everyone's time.

[LegacyUG] Double Source Data Entry

2009-08-02 Thread SgtBob

I have encountered a problem (whether of my own making or whatever) that is
causing me to re-visit a ton of entries to correct. I noticed this when I
printed a small sample book and after reviewing several dozen entries, I
noticed the following Source Citation sample (it is one of many):

7. TENNESSEE-Washington-County-Land-Action,
TENNESSEE-Washington-County-Land-Actions ID: 9027.
8. REVOLUTIONARY-WAR-Pension-Abstracts, REVOLUTIONARY-WAR-Pension-Abstracts ID:
9111.

As you can see in the above sample, the data appears twice when viewing the
Source Citations portion of the book. I see the problem in my Legacy .fdb when
I go to 'show list of assigned sources icon --> click on one of the 'assigned
sources events' --> select 'edit detail' --> observe 'footnote/endnote
citation:' --> select 'Click here to go to override tab'. Then Is when I see
the duplication.

I opened one of my saved .fdb files in Access, but was unable to see this
problem in any of the columns on any of tables, so I can not correct this via
Access (I'm not sure, but ...). Does anyone know of an easier method of getting
this corrected than one-at-a-time?

Bob

Carl,

First backup your database, then unlink the child from the current mother,
then select the new mother and add an "existing" child to her, then select
the child you previously unlinked.

Hope this helps

mother. I first linked them to the correct parents (Link to existing child),
then unlinked them from the wrong place. That way I did not have to make notes

I used an event named "biography" for those times when nothing else seems
to work. It is sufficiently generic that it can be used for any number of
facts and the sentence override can be used to detail the situation.

I agree "community service" is a different meaning.

Also in the US we have both Peace Corps and now Americorps so having a

Cathy,

that is kinda why I did the calendar report it helps you to see
some of the same information that the other reports may have but in a
different format. For me seeing stuff one way may help me see some
issues and seeing it another way will help with other issues.

It is also a neat items to include in a larger book for some events etc.

thanks for checking

However, I must thank you because my son and granddaughter were not on
the calendar so I checked and they were marked "not living"! After
fixing that, I ran the calender for all non-living people and, by
visually scanning through the ages, it was very easy to see who should
have been marked living (I found 3 more incorrectly marked as not
living when they are alive). So, thanks for giving me an easy way to
double check the correctness of my data. Now, I think I'll re-run the
report for "living" and probably find some that should be marked "not
living".

Barb,

This is quite straight forward :-).

Right click on the child and select "unlink from parents" then go to the child
and in family view click on the Parents Icon and then "Select From Existing
Parents". This takes you to the Marriage Names Screen where you can select the
parents you want.

Re: [LegacyUG] Calendar Report Errors

2009-08-02 Thread Cathy Vallevieni

Alan:

I ran the Calendar Creator for all living people and listed the
birthdate and age. I didn't find any problems with married names (I
am running Deluxe 7.0.0.1).

However, I must thank you because my son and granddaughter were not
on the calendar so I checked and they were marked "not
living"! After fixing that, I ran the calender for all non-living
people and, by visually scanning through the ages, it was very easy
to see who should have been marked living (I found 3 more incorrectly
marked as not living when they are alive). So, thanks for giving me
an easy way to double check the correctness of my data. Now, I think
I'll re-run the report for "living" and probably find some that
should be marked "not living".

Sorry I couldn't help you, though.

I was just about to print out a Calendar Creator report and I found
errors in the naming. I has several people with the wrong last name
but correct birth date.

The screwy part is the one of these people is my wife. It has her
with the last name of one of her cousins. And several others like this.

I did a File Maintenance -> Check/Repair of the Family file and
still got the errors.

The report is errors both for the Calendar Creator and the Calendar
List Report. I ran the report both for Tagged individuals and only
living individuals and got the same issue.

I have it show the Birth year and age.

Any thoughts or ideas?

thanks for the help

Alan

I'm impressed with how you were able to render your question pictorially,
Robert, even if it was misdirected. Any suggestions on where/how one can
learn to do that? Thanks.
