Re: [LegacyUG] Here is a good example

2009-10-09 Thread Jim Smith
When I go to Options-Customize-Data Entry-Presumed Dead and set Ask if Living
to 90 and Set as dead if over 120 and click on APPLY I get a window that is
labeled Mark as Not Living if over 120 Years Old that says:

This process sets Living to NO for the following:

1. Any one with an entry in the Death Date or Place or the Burial Date or Place.
2. Anyone with a valid date in either the Birth or Christening date field that
is over 120 years ago.
3. Anyone with a death cause.

I conclude that if at least one of the entries is not made, Legacy won't set to
dead.

One way to solve the problem is to set an estimated birth date. Example: if the
parent had a child that was born in 1850 or for that matter died in 1850 you
could set the parent's birth date as Before 1850. That would give Legacy a
basis for computing Living? YES or NO.

I just sent you my file.

Let's say John Doe's PARENTS died in 1705. It is a pretty good bet that John
Doe is also dead but Legacy is not marking him dead.

Or, if John Doe's PARENTS were born in 1801 and 1802, all of their kids are
obviously dead but Legacy is not marking them dead.

  Jim,

I don't understand what you are saying here. If somebody has a date in the
death, no matter what their age at death then the living flag will already be
set to No. Advanced set living only sets this flag.

I seem to remember from English classes (back in the dark ages) that the way
a person spells their name and pronounces their name is the is the correct
way to spell and pronounce that individual's name.

Using a space after Mc will, of course, affect the way the name sorts. Other

No, Mary Jo didn't set any file type to do anything. I don't know
enough to even begin to try to mess with that sort of thing. I did,
however, just now use the advanced search criteria to include hidden
files. That search report said Search is complete. There are no

uninstall because it Can't find the INSTALL.LOG.file, that seems
consistent.

[LegacyUG] RE: Jim's Aha Moment to the + Symbol... Thanks

2009-02-09 Thread Jim Smith
Thanks, Brian, JL, Ange, Dede, and Jenny,

Do you mean the + sign that indicates there's more than one relationship?

I had to plot it out. I said I was a bit dense at times...

John's father, Joe, is Rose's mother, Louisa's, brother. Hence, Joe's and
Louisa's parents are John's and Rose's grandparents. I reset the
relationships to begin with John and the relationship labeling appeared as
follows:

John = Self
Rose, his wife = 1st cousin +
Joe, their son = Son +

Levine, John's father-in-law = Father-in-law +
Louisa, John's mother-in-law = Aunt +

And then I think this may be the simple answer. In the case of the
relationship between John and Rose, she is his 1st cousin PLUS she is his
wife. In the case of relationship with Louisa, she is John's aunt, PLUS she
is his mother-in-law.

If this is what the + symbol means in the relationship labeling,
Hallelujah!!!

So when I reset the relationships to myself as the primary individual -

John = my 1st cousin 3 times removed
Rose = my 1st cousin 3 times removed PLUS, +, the wife of my 1st cousin 3
times removed.

I hope this is as simple as the developers of Legacy meant this relationship
label + symbol to mean... or I'm screwed!!!

The issue is clear, and the + symbols in the relationship, as well as when
used with other types of views has a different there is more meaning,
so-to-speak.

Thanks, for taking the time,

Jim

[LegacyUG] Abbreviation/Symbol Definition - +

I am trying to understand the meaning of the + abbreviation/symbol in the

The relationships are to me:

1. Husband, John - My 1st cousin 3 times removed.
2. Wife, Rose - My 1st cousin 3 times removed +.
3. Their son, Joe - My 2nd cousin twice removed +.

The given parameters are:

2. Rose's mother, Lois, is my gg-grandaunt.
3. Joe and Lois are brother and sister.
4. Their father is may ggg-grandfather.

What does the + provided by the Legacy Relationship Calculator mean?

Still Confused... RE: [LegacyUG] Abbreviation/Symbol Definition - +

2009-02-08 Thread Jim Smith
Jenny,

Certainly appreciate your answer, but I could thick and missing something.
I understand your technical explanation as to upwards and downwards
direction relationships and the use of the + and - symbols outside of
Legacy.

My current Legacy Family screens only show the + in the relationship areas
to the wife, Rose, and her son, Joe. My problem is, if that is the case,
translated as a symbol in Legacy, it should then show also on the John's,
the husband's relationship area. According to your explanation then both
John and Rose relationship description should be exactly the same as both
are offspring of siblings, 1st cousins who married. I have re-set the
relationship calculation a number of times and keep coming up with the same
results - John = 1st cousin 3 removed and Rose = 1st cousin 3 times removed
+.

Thanks for your help.

It means that the removed is in an upwards direction - ie the direct
cousin relationships are in previous generations to you. By the same
token, your 1st cousin's child, being a generation below you, would be
your 1st cousin once removed -

Jim,

See Help Index - Symbols.

What do the Little Symbols Mean?

You may notice some symbols on the Family View at the ends of some of
the names. Here is what they mean:
A + at the end of a parent names means that person has parents.
There is at least one more generation of ancestors on that line.
A + at the end of a child name means that person has children.
There is at least one more generation of descendants on that line.

There are more symbols described, but I only included the part about
the + sign, since that's what you asked about.

Does this make sense with what you're seeing?

2009-02-08 Thread Jim Smith
Ange,

You said, in your email Sent: Sunday, February 08, 2009 8:26 PM -

Hi ---

The + sign with RELATIONSHIPS actually means that that individual is
related
to you (or whomever you used to calculate the relationships) in more than
one way.

You are correct, both John and Rose, his wife, are both my 1st cousins 3
times removed. We all have a common ancestor, their grandfather and my
ggg-grandfather. But then should not the + symbol also appear against the
relationship label for John as well as for Rose.

And then you suggested that -

In the Family View right-click on the relationship title. There will be 4
different options. The third option reads VIEW ADDITITIONAL
RELATIONSHIPS
This will bring you to a screen which will show you all the ways this
individual is related to you.

I followed your instructions and I do have 4 different options. They are:

1. Set Relationship Foreground Color...
2. Set Relationship Background Color...
3. Open Relationship Calculator...
4. Set Relationships in Other Languages...

I am using Version 7.0.0.86 and I do not see View Additional
Relationships. I have used the Relationship Calculator, and it provides
what it does but no solution to the + symbol.

Could it be that the permutations in the program do not recognize unions of
1st cousins therefore the labeling defaults to a specific title, that is,
1st cousin 3 times removed + to only one individual of a pair?

Thanks for your time and help.

Jim

Jim,
Been there. You may not be looking for the Event Definition Master List in
the correct place or you may have run a maintenance program to delete
unused events.
To get to the Master list of Event Definitions, select MASTER from the top
tool bar, then select Event Definition. If marriage Banns is not listed,
then select options.
You'll see Purge unused (that's the one I suspected you used at one time)
and import. Please please read about the import and work with a copy of
your file or back up your file for safety as one import option asks about
default to the original event wording.

Hi Jim, click on your marriage information bar, click on the Add button to
add an event, click on the down arrow button to the right of the Event, this
will open up the Master Event Definition list, you may not have an event
title called Marriage Banns listed in this list so click the add button on
the right hand side of this screen, the Add/Edit screen will open, enter the
name that you want Marriage Banns, clich the Reset button to add the
wording options, you can also edit the wording options to display what you
want it to read in your reports, then click save, now select this title for
your new event.

[LegacyUG] Entering In Unknowns To Database

2008-12-23 Thread Jim Smith
Good Afternoon,

My question is not concerning any set-up issue or technical working of the
Legacy program.

I have come upon a bit of confusion as how to enter specific individuals to
my Legacy database. I have the following information:

1. My gg-granduncle Samuel Victor Abraham, born 1827, died 1919. His
obituary from the 10 Oct 1919 Jewish Chronicle states His mother was Ms.
Rebecca Levy of Deal, whose sister was grandmother of Sir Sidney Lee.

2. His mother was my ggg-grandmother Rebecca (nee Levy/Levi) Abraham, born
circa 1780, died 1864.

3. Her father was Michael Levy/Levi, my -grandfather.

4. Her sister was the grandmother of Sir Simon Lee.

5. Simon Lee was born Solomon Lazarus Lee, 1859, and died 1926. (One
biographical account states that his birth name was Solomon Lazarus Levi.)

6. Simon Lee's parents are Lazarus Lee and Jessie Davis.

7. Simon Lee also has a sister, Elizabeth Lee.

I have not discovered as to which of Lazarus Lee or Jessie Davis, Simon's
and Elizabeth's parents is the child of Simon Lee's grandmother.

My question:

How could I enter Simon (Solomon Lazarus) Lee into my Legacy database to
show a direct relationship to his grandmother (nee Levy/Levi), my
ggg-grandmother Rebecca (nee Levy/Levi) Abraham? I am using Legacy 7.0.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

JLB,

Apologies...I forgot a comma between parents and is in the dizzy
sentence. This English teacher has been trying to determine a visual
connection and presentation of the relationship between the concerned
individual and his grandmother's sister, without inserting a manual
addendum.

I had previously followed the same steps that you suggested and included
information provided from all sources; newspaper obituary and census
records. I have to continue my search for additional data. I was just
wondering if there is a possibility, or one that someone may have
ingeniously devised that may produce a representation of this familial
relationship, using Legacy.

This makes me dizzy and it's not even first thing in the morning. Not
the least of which is the grammar or lack-thereof of the sentence:
quote

I have not discovered as to which of Lazarus Lee or Jessie Davis, Simon's
and Elizabeth's parents is the child of Simon Lee's grandmother.

There aren't enough hours in my day to decipher that on my own.

Just generally speaking, and maybe this could apply to your case:

When I pull various bits of information from one source, I use the document
as a Master Source or I quote the contents of it under Source Detail Text,
depending what makes sense there.
If it came from a newspaper I would put the contents of an obit, for
instance, in the Source Detail Text, quoting the newspaper itself as the
Master Source and then I put the whole thing on the Source Clipboard. Then
I paste this source for each person in the appropriate place. If I got
their name from this source it goes as a Source for their name, etc. In
this case I would then put under Source Detail Comments the relationship of
each person to the person whose obit it is and any other suitable
explanation.

Jim,

This was a common bug in version 7.0.0.55. It was fixed in the most
recent update (7.0.0.76) so if you update to that, it won't happen
again (and a vast number of other formatting and display bugs have
also been fixed.) If you have the Deluxe version you can update from
within the program by going to the Legacy Home tab and click 'Updates'
in the far right column.

Cheers,
Steve

The point was that his comment regarding Microsoft was unnecessary. JL
provided a suggestion for a program which would do what the OP wanted. That
should have been enough. I don't really care what any of you think about
Microsoft, and your opinion about that company and its programs has nothing
to do with this list. I care only what and how you use Legacy and its

Legacy 6 will not open Legacy 7 files. If you still have a Legacy 6 file or

you'll have to re-enter that data. If there are other ways to recover the new

  Good Day ...

  ... I hope all is good ...

Your help will be appreciated re:

  1. I want to know which is the better/best location to store my Legacy 7
media files for my 'Scrapbook' entries.
  2. The manual states that two folders, Pictures and Sounds, are created
within the Legacy folder and, strongly recommends the use of such folders for
'pictures and sounds.'
  3. I have my pictures and sounds stored in 'family folders' on the C: drive
( didn't read the manual at that time)
  4. I have about 550 families in the 'tree' so I should end up with about
that many 'family folders.' Some families have about 50 pictures.

With that in mind, what are your suggestions? I'll gladly change to benefit
performance, security, and overall design. If I should have to move 'family
folders' from the C: drive to the 'Pictures and Sounds' folders within Legacy
... will it be as simple as dragging from 'old' to 'new' locations? If so,
that means the links from the 'old' location will be changed to 'new links' at
the new location ... for the media.

Last question ... in Legacy 7, after some names there is a special character
... looks like two Ss on top of each other . I searched for that character
but, could not find; what is the definition of that character?

Thank you for your time consideration.

Re: [LegacyUG] Reporting In Legacy

2008-02-10 Thread Jim Smith
Connie and Cathy:

Thank you for your responses. I have attempted the creation of the same
reporting in Legacy. The issue I have with the source and citation
presentation in this reporting is that it is too much and too academic to
present to a family member who has a minimal understanding of the science of
genealogy.

The Clooz reporting of an ancestor's document and data collection(s) is a
very good method of presenting what is in a family data library without
being overwhelming. When I introduce a family member to their family
history it is key to provide a top level picture versus one that, as one
family member mentioned to me, you need another degree to understand what's
here on this paper. It's just a simple Index that is also a time-line.
I'm always on the look-out for ways to win-over family members to an
understanding of genealogy versus watching their eyes cloud-over with Oh
no, here we go again with the begats!

I understand the extra work involved in maintaining two databases. I have
been doing so for awhile, and I do like the Legacy/Clooz integration
component. If I had been fully aware of the saprophytic relationship
which makes it impossible now to keep up with current upgrades I would never
have clicked the Yes to integration. But I like the capabilities of both
softwares and so I do double entry. (I have used both Legacy and Clooz
since their inceptions.) It's worth the results, especially the reporting
ones, and also the organization of documents and data.

Regards, and thanks,

Jim

[LegacyUG] Reporting In Legacy

2008-02-09 Thread Jim Smith
Greetings:

Can anyone give me a hint on how I could, if a can, create a report through
Legacy similar to one I can get through Clooz? The Clooz capability is,
after entering various documents, etc., I can request a summary of entered
sources, documents, etc., on file specific to a certain chosen individual in
my data. For example:

Individual – Jim Smith

Sources Documents Available, (on file) –

1. (Source ID) CEN 003 – (Source Title) 1861 England Census

2. 1. CEN 015 – 1871 England Census

3. 2. BENG 027 – 1859 Civil Birth Registration

4. 3. IMG 037 – 1896 Passenger Manifest

I'm trying to see if the same type of information is capable of being
reported through Legacy. I find this capability one of the key Clooz
reporting capabilities.

Thanks

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Version 8

I'm really lost at the continued and prolonged discussion of the
anticipation of a new upgrade be it 7.0 or 8.0... The speed of change does
not even give me a chance to breathe at times, and I haven't even grasped
every Legacy nuance I need to have learned from the release of version 4 or
before. And yes I'm using 6 point whatever, but with the continued
acceleration of external inputs, as with Mills' increased and addended
source and citation formats, upgrades need to take time, to get whatever
needs we want to be added, to be added with care. I would sooner wait and
pay less over time for less upgrades and get better and more quality
substance. Just a thought.

Re: [LegacyUG] Individual Placement Issue... Help

2008-01-15 Thread Jim Smith
I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions and their ideas. I
appreciate the offers.

I will more than likely add the 18th person in the Legacy database as I have
now further discovered that the eldest son, my GGG-Grandparents' 3rd child,
my GG-Granduncle William had eight children. By adding a temporary 18th
child will insure that Granddaughter Sarah Jane does not get lost in the
shuffle, so-to-speak. As I mentioned initially, I've narrowed the parent
possibility down to six of the 14 sisters. As the family seemed to remain,
until later generations, in the areas surrounding Todmorden and Walsden in
Lancashire/Yorkshire, my search is somewhat concentrated to a conclusive
environment.

I don't want to bog down this Legacy users' bulletin board any further with
the idiosyncrasies of my maternal line. If anyone would like to discuss
them further offline, please feel free to contact me at

Again, thanks.

[LegacyUG] Individual Placement Issue... Help

2008-01-14 Thread Jim Smith
Help... Does anyone have a solution to my small problem?

I would like to enter a grand-daughter to an individual without adding a
blank or unnamed daughter, into my database Any suggestions?

The situation is that in 1881 the individual, my widowed
Step-GGG-Grandmother Jane (?) Parker has a Grand-Daughter Sarah Jane
Sutcliffe, aged 7-years old living with her, per the Census. Also in the
same house are eight of my 10 Half-GG-Grandaunts, all listed on the same
1881 Census as unmarried. The other two Half-GG-Grandaunts are also
unmarried and living together 30 minutes away. Based on biological
possibilities three of the Half-GG-Grandaunts could have been Sarah Jane
Sutcliffe's mother.

Also, there are three other GG-Grandaunts and one GG-Grandmother. All 14
were daughters of my GGG-Grandfather John Parker, and his two wives;
Elizabeth - four daughters; Jane - 10 daughters.

I have not been able to determine which of the possible six; three
GG-Grandaunts or three Half-GG-Grandaunts was Sarah Jane Sutcliffe's mother,
and I don't want to enter a blank individual. There are already 17
children entered in the database and I really don't want to enter a blank
eighteenth. Is there a method in Legacy to enter an individual's
grandchild, as sort of a floater?

In addition to the obvious I will sometimes add side
lines that I happen to come across in my records
search that might aid my research later. Such as
names in a probate, that might confirm that this is a
 relation.

I will also more likely to follow families that came
to Kansas even if they are not near my direct line.
Simply because I have access to Kansas records.

I have also been known to follow people that catch my
interest. Maybe they have an interesting occupation
or maybe it's a single woman who was leaving a lot of
money to people when she died. Where did her money
come from? Or it maybe someone of prominence like Red
Kate Richards O'Hare, a prominent Kansas socialist,
who is on a side line of mine.

There is no firm rule of who to add. It's whatever
works for you and that's the fun of doing family
 history.

Thanks Ron...

Both the same issues. I agree, and I really don't want to have something set
on the side that I'll never remember the reason why I put the data there.
I've become so overwhelmed with the size of this family that I would like to
have the facility of a direct or indirect connect between the grandparents
and the child, not an 18th child. I'm pretty sure that one of the 14
daughters is the mother but at this time, I can not prove which. I know
that I may have to include an obtuse 18th just to be a constant reminder
to myself to keep searching.

Thanks,

I know of no totally satisfactory way of of overcoming this difficulty.
You have mentioned one way and I can only suggest two others. One is simply
to include the grandchild in the grandparents notes with all relevant
information. This means, of course, that the grandchild is pretty obscure.

The other is to include the grandchild as an unlinked individual (AddNew
unlinked individual), again with all the details in the notes for the
grandparents and also the child. This method is fine if one's main interest
is websites as both the grandparent and grandchild can be linked via html in
the notes. But less appealing for written reports.

Re: [LegacyUG] Clooz vs. Heritage Collector vs. ... ? Which, if any, to use with Legacy?

2008-01-03 Thread Jim Smith
Greetings...

I use both Legacy and Master Genealogist, and have used Clooz since its
inception. Most recently I got a copy of Custodian 3, which I am yet to
tackle. I am a stickler for software and do like using what I consider the
best that's out there, best for me, that is. Each software package has its
pros and cons, as well as its own idiosyncrasies.

This may all seem redundant, but I like the differences that I can achieve
using the different vehicles. I like the facility of Clooz to create the
variety of document management reporting. I like the ability to enter the
name of an ancestor and be able to produce a condensed reporting of what
documents and sources I have on file.

As I am now the family librarian and historian one of my goals is to be able
to present our family history information in a multiple varieties of ways
that could suit the individual needs of family members who are interested.
My current family is globally spread. Having the available variety of
reporting formats and the ability to store and present data in various ways
seems to satisfy family members and seems to incite them to become more
supportive and involved in the overall project.

Re: [LegacyUG] Adopted Daughter unmarried mother

2007-09-21 Thread Jim Smith
Greetings:

Changing the direction a wee bit...

If the time is prior to 1926, when adoption was formally legalized in
England... how would one enter in the daughter of one of the parents, and
who was not necessarily related to the other parent? The biological father
is not known, but the parenting father's name is entered in simultaneous
censuses. The mother's maiden name is used in legal documents.

For example:

- 1861 Baptismal record - Child, Anne, is baptised under mother's maiden
name: Jane Smith. No father is listed.

- 1863 Marriage record - Mother, Anne Smith marries Charles Jones

- 1871 and 1881 England Census - Child is listed as Jane Jones

- 1887 Marriage record - Jane Smith marries George Brown. Smith is given as
maiden name.

- 1888 Birth Registration of daughter Elizabeth Brown. Mother is listed as
Jane Brown formerly Smith.

- 1920 and 1927 US publications refer to Jane (Smith) Brown as Jane (Jones)
Brown.

Based on the documents collected, a logical conclusion is that Jane (Smith)
Brown's biological father is not known. It appears that Jane Smith may have
considered Charles Jones her father, but there is no conclusive evidence
that he is her biological father. Also due to the year it can not be noted
that Jane Smith was legally adopted by Charles Jones.

So in this case how would Jane (Smith) Brown or Jane (Jones) Brown be
entered into Legacy?

must be a reservoir somewhere. Scanning the external media would be a start.

Since you are apparently using Carbonite and should have backups of other

 Subject: [LegacyUG] Trojan Attack

I need any help and/or advice from any Legacy user who also uses the
software Clooz. (Everyone please be advised that I am a strong
proponent and user of Clooz, Legacy and Master Genealogist softwares,
and I hope to continue using the genealogy document concept in my
  work.)

I have been having a problem since last Thursday that may involve my
upgrade copy of Clooz 2.1. I am not saying that the issue is with
Clooz but I think the software program is being used by a Trojan. I
have been using Clooz steadily and more increasingly since the release
  of the new upgrade.

Sometime last week a repeat problem began again as I had had in the
past with the installation and configuration of Clooz 2.1. When I
initiated Legacy or The Master Genealogist, a dialog box as before,
appeared asking if I wanted to install Clooz 2.1, after it had already
been installed. After a number of repeats, I followed all previous
instructions, and removed and un-installed all traces of Clooz. I
reinstalled but no success this time. Now the problem does not go
away or is not fixed as it had been fixed in the past. This is the
secondary issue and from my understanding is an MS Windows issue with
  the Clooz installation.

I next discovered that 43 incidents of a Trojan, Trojan.Daugeru, had
infected my PC. I cleaned my PC completely. I also had a
professional service examine my PC. My PC service and speed continued
to deteriorate. I ran a number of virus, spyware and malware checks
and cleaned my PC completely. I used a number of software including
Norton, SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor, CCleaner, Spybot Search, and PC
Tools to examine and clean my PC. Overkill maybe, but the Trojan was
completely removed. (FYI, Spyware Doctor, of those I used, was the
only software the caught the Trojan.Daugeru.)

In order to increase the speed of the server, as well as exclude the
interference of some of the security software, I removed two
softwares: Norton and SpySweeper. All this was done in a Safe-Mode
and the PC hard drives were defragged, each at least three times...
Overkill, possibly, but some of the actions were suggested by the
professionals. And at their suggestion, I conducted a number of the
processes as they felt that I could handle the work without having to
spend any additional funds for what would be the same service that
  they would have to charge.

After having completed all process for a thorough removal and
cleansing of my PC, I reinstalled Clooz 2.1. I put the Clooz 2.1 CD
in to the drive and began the installation process. At some point
during the installation process I received 10 high-level Virus Alerts
from Spyware Doctor that the Trojan.Daugeru had attempted once again
to infect my PC. This happened twice for 20 attempts, and has
happened each time I have reinstalled Clooz 2.1. Be it coincidence,
this has happened only and every time I reinstall Clooz 2.1, something
that did not happen prior to the appearance of the Trojan.Daugeru.

I knew it couldn't be from the Clooz 2.1 CD as I had already installed
and used the program since it was first published. I was just
wondering, as the coincidence of the attacks seem to somehow target
Clooz, and that the trojan is relatively new, that there may have been
another Clooz user having had the same issue(s).

Once all was done, I spoke too soon about any not having any further
problems with my Clooz file and the effects of the Trojan. I decided
to start working again inputting data and new Sources in my Legacy and
Clooz database. As I checked my existent database of 264 Sources,
there appears to be a major screw-up. It looks like Source Titles
have been changed and in some cases deleted. It appears that parts of
the titles have been deleted and changed. I always use an
individual's name in the Source Title, and a good percentage of the
  names are gone.

For example, my Personal File # DSCO 001 should be linked to Source

my Legacy database and a new Clooz database, in order to avoid
having to re-enter all my source information once again into Clooz? I
have duplicated all the same information in my Legacy database, shy of
the Link People functionality.

Help, please.

Re: [LegacyUG] FYI and Could Someone Please Assist Me...

2007-08-24 Thread Jim Smith
Alice et al...

Thanks for the help, but I finally found a fix, which I can not
believe actually worked... (for now)...

When I booted up Legacy, the TurboTax Its Deductible 2006 program
again began to automatically attempt to install... and at this point I
had used everyone's suggestions and had removed the program 23
times... And it still came back... And when I booted up Legacy I
still had to press the Cancel button in the install dialog box six
times to stop the installation.

I went back to the Control Panel and activated the Add or Remove
function and moved down to highlight the TurboTax Its Deductible 2006
program. I pressed the Remove button and sure enough the program
started to install... Out of frustration, I let it continue to
install... When the installation procedure completed the TurboTax Its
Deductible 2006 program was gone! Certainly a backwards way of
deleting an unwanted pain!

And I've rebooted Legacy and Master Genealogist a number of times
since, and I looked for the program and it is GONE!!!

What can I say...

Thanks, again to all...

Karl...

I began doing genealogy five years ago, and only via the Internet...
Yes it, genealogy has certainly pulled me in... and the information
availability just keeps growing exponentially. Now I'm hoping some
brilliant soul could develop an extreme method to download microfilm
and microfiche frames systematically and quickly to the PC... In other
words, instead of frame by frame, be able to start on frame 1, set a
series of frames, then download... It's just a matter of time.

Help!!! If there is anyone out there that has had a similar problem,
please help... When I boot up either Legacy 6.0.0.155 or Master
Genealogist 6.12, the program TurboTax ItsDeductible 2006 tries to
initialize. I have to press the Cancel button three times in order
to stop the initialization process. This all just started.

TurboTax is the software I used in April to complete my tax returns.
I tried removing the TurboTax ItsDeductible 2006 program but it
won't get lost. Any ideas?

Please, and thanks.

Does anyone have comments on the +'s or -'s of taking this approach to Legacy?

Not trying to be trite, but did you check to see if you have the single

have to be entered on the right and females on the left.

Hi Julie,

I find Picasa useful for emailing reduced-size copies of my photos to
people, and for creating copies of lower resolution for loading on my
web site while retaining the original. It does a lot more, of course,
but those are the two situations I've been finding it useful for.

Can anyone recommend free software that will knit two photos together,
such as when the scenery is too big for one shot, so a series has been
taken? I had a program that did it well years ago (it might have been
the software that came with the scanner I used to have), but with
changing hardware and software over the years it has vanished, and I've
never found something to do this particular job. It would be useful for
some documents that are too big for the scanner.

Kind Regards,

I am in the process of trying to create a family history web site. I
asked Legacy Family Tree advice on how to set it up. One of the things they
suggested was ask the Legacy User Group for advice.

My goal is to have something that is very user friendly for my
different family members to communicate and sharefamily
history.I like the Legacy Family Tree software program and I am hoping
to beable to use it, along with Macromedia software such as
Dreamweaver, to set up the web page databases and
interactivecapabilities--in essence, giving family members around the
world thecapability to work on family history projects together, in
real time and with seamless work compatibility.I want all family
members to have access to documents and images, which will be digitized or
hyperlinked and stored on our own server. This way our documentation is
available as well as the individual and family statistics. For instance, we
have family bulletins, family stories, pictures, certificates, tax and
census records that we would like our children and grandchildren to have
easy access. We would have journalling andpersonal history sharing
capability, and the all important research logs. It will have several user
defined security levels to protect their individual, family, and extended
family privacy, while still making other appropriate information available
to the public.

Any advice you can give me would surely be appreciated.

Thanks,
Eileen Lentz
