running:

Re: [LegacyUG] Test

2007-08-17 Thread Susan Daily
The problem is that the email doesn't come in from LUG, it comes in
from each person's personal email address. I am guessing that is why
when new people send an email, it goes right into the spam folder.
GMAIL hasn't read their email addresses before.

I have LegacyUserGroup@legacyfamilytree.com in my gmail Contact List, and I
still get about 20-25% of my LUG messages sent automatically to the Spam
folder. I've even set up a filter to give the LUG messages their own

this outI'm getting tired of having to fish LUG messages out of the spam

RE: [LegacyUG] Test

2007-08-17 Thread Paul A.
Mitch,

There was discussion a couple days ago about gmail suddenly "spamming" the
LUG messages. When I checked, I had 109 LUG messages in the spam folder. I
would read a reply and think my memory was really bad because I couldn't
remember the original question or comment being posted. I found them. I
have always had one or two here and there, but then I read in the help where
you need to include the email address in your list of contacts to prevent
them from going to the spam. Now I am back to just one or two a day going
into the spam folder.

Hi Jack,

There has been plenty of mail since 19 Feb 2007, as you can see from the
archives -
http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/maillist.html
Sort by date rather than thread to see what is most recent, though keep
in mind that these archives are updated only periodically, not as each
post is submitted.

Have you checked your spam folder and any filters you may have set?
Perhaps you would like to correspond directly with Sherry

2007-02-26 Thread Wendy Howard

Hi Nancy,

You have sent three of these "test" messages to the list now. I can
only assume that you have not received copies of any, hence the
repetition. For that reason, I'm sending a copy directly to you as well
as to the list.

Have you checked your spam folder, your filters, and are you receiving
other mail okay? Suggest you write directly to Sherry

to change their mail settings.

Bill Hurst

I had my old email program (Eudora) set up to send plain text. In
replying to HTML messages -- of which I get a ton :-( -- it was supposed
to ask me if I wanted to send plain text or HTML. Because of other
problems with it, I switched everything to Opera, and when I imported my
Eudora mail, I found that I was, indeed, sending HTML anyway -- all those
annoying tags are showing up in my outgoing messages. I sure wish someone
would have mentioned it to me at the time, but I wasn't using Eudora on
this list -- and the ones I was using it for were generally run by people
who didn't know the difference anyway.

I have to admit I'm a little surprised at the choice to use mailing list
software that doesn't have a digest, but *does* allow HTML and
attachments, which seems to be a major step backwards. Hoping that people
will understand and follow the guidelines is just unrealistic.

My long-time participation in the OOo project has taught me that a huge
number of people don't even know what it all means -- or don't care. They
don't realize that HTML email is just like a web page -- depending on the
recipient's settings and the program they're using, all that "cuteness"
can be totally illegible on the receiving end. And more and more, people
with broadband connections don't think twice about the size of what they
are sending out. For those of us to whom "high speed" will only be a
reality on the interstate, this can create quite a problem.

But I, personally, won't be taking any action until someone attaches a 3MB
file to a message -- been there, done that (and Opera does a superb job of
stripping out the HTML). With a 26K connection, that would probably put
me over the edge.

Millennia!! Where are your web geeks?! ;-)

Re: [LegacyUG] test

2006-06-23 Thread Dermot McGlone

Sherry,

I must say, I for one am surprised and disappointed with this. While
I'm quite security conscious and won't open an attachment I don't
recognise, not everyone is, and this could cause serious problems for
some.

While the use of HTML not too much of an issue for me, it is annoying
to see all this Comic Sans font, bolded and in different colours
(please don't do that, especially in that font. It's just downright
annoying!). However, it may cause more of an issue for some other
listers, especially those that need assistance reading from screens,
Etc.

Hoping that "listers read the guidelines and comply" obviously hasn't
worked and you're only on the new server a very short time. I can't
see it getting any better.

I hope there are some advantages to moving to the new server for us
users, because as yet I can't see any change except allowing
attachments and HTML through.

Regards,

Dermot.

P.S. This is not a criticism of the list or the people on it, which I
have always found very useful and helpful.
